Until then, instead of waiting on Nintendo to release your old favorites, there are a bounty of emulators and rom sites where you can download those old titles to any device you want.
It's almost as if Nintendo thinks that people will prefer fan projects to their actual official releases if they don't issue a C&D and if that's the case, then it sounds like Nintendo realizes that it's products aren't coming up to par with those fan projects and thus, trying to unfairly stifle the competition.
Or it could be Nintendo is ran by old businessmen with no developer backgrounds who don't keep up with the times (or their consumers)and have never played a videogame in their lives and will, without remorse, drop their gaming division all together if things start going south due to their massive wealth and supposed connections with the Yakuza and it's very plausible considering the incident with Etika's friend and the behavior of Nintendo's' "agents" that visited him.
I'd trade one of the Nintendo senior head executives for Sakurai in a heartbeat. Why? Because he's pretty much one of the only senior heads that are welcome to new ideas and change and is willing to compromise for smart innovation and doesn't lean to hard on the gimmicks like Miyamoto has but at the same time, isn't so hard headed that he isn't above listening to new ideas and I have to respect the man for that.
Don’t forget, this is also the same man who threw a hissy fit because the cutscenes for SSBB got leaked before release and refuses to create another story focused adventure mode for a Smash Bros game because of it.
Don’t get me wrong, I have no I’ll will towards Sakurai and all the hard work he puts into his projects, but at the same time I’m not going to pretend like he’s a perfect saint that can do no wrong nor can’t be criticized when he makes a bad decision
Finally, with all due respect I have to ask that he get over himself in regards to the memes about him because like it or not, this is the internet and he shouldn’t get special treatment just because of the franchises he’s been a part of.
Too bad the point system completely breaks the game in later story battles by allowing the cpu to draw their entire hand in later duels and the less I talk about burn card spam and servant multiplying cards, the better.
Nintendo missed a huge opportunity for not recognizing the man's talent and not bringing him on board when they had the chance, but I expect no less from present 'business first' Nintendo.
Maybe once they get a president that's less of a business man and more of a game designer like Iwata, things will get better; both for us and the company.
And yet they don’t even offer to release any of these old titles for us to purchase to celebrate the occasion, and no, using Metroid Dread’s release is not an excuse since the same argument can be made for Zelda as well, yet Nintendo also released SS to celebrate its anniversary.
If f2p games have taught me anything, it's that the microtransactions almost always get worse instead of better as time goes on, so don't expect the game's pay-to-win model to get better anytime soon.
Heck, the main reason why I haven't even opened the app on my Switch is because I don't want Tencent to send my personal data to the CCP, via those microtransactions.
@PessitheMystic Nintendo may not be obliged to re-release old software, but at the same time, should not hold fault for anyone wanting to emulate their older titles, especially ones that they have no interest in releasing to the public, and provide no legal way of doing so, like say, move the entire VC from Wii U over to the Switch
At this point in time, Sega as a company has become an after thought in the gaming industry, with nothing really substantial to offer to customers, half-baked ideas that no one wanted and re-releases along with fan projects being the only things that are keeping them even remotely relevant in the market. It's a real shame, actually.
And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why I’m getting a Steam Deck and encourage others to do so as well since it’s basically a portable PC, which means it can run emulators but the main reason is:
I’m tired of getting burned by companies like Nintendo who either refuse to release their old catalog of game libraries or when they do, release games that no one asked for or, release them in an overpriced collection of ports that have little to no changes to justify the price.
And on that note, it’s a real shame that the only publisher who is keeping their retro library up to date and NOT starting over from scratch is Microsoft.
I’m not getting my hopes up, especially since the Steam Deck is launching in December and can, through emulation, play the Prime Trilogy and other consoles that Nintendo refuses to release on the NSO(and Sony for that matter)
Considering that the Steam Deck is a smaller PC, which means it'll be able to run emulation software, which means I can have PS2, gba, n64, gamecube and wii on the go and that alone should tell what the obvious choice is, for me at least and that's besides the expanded storage and customization options.
People better hope this’ll sell well enough that it jerks a kink in Nintendo’s tail to actually improve their mediocre online service and hardware, now that they’re going have some stiff competition.
A shame most of these titles aren't on the Switch now nor in the foreseeable future despite the massive outrcry for GBA and Gamecube titles to come to the NSO, but oh well, you do you Nintendo.
@Luigivaldo Glad to see someone remembers MM besides a mighty few. It's really a shame that it hasn't been re-released because it's a really fun game with quirky characters and interesting game mechanics.
Sorry but no. I'm not putting down another $350 for the same drift-bound joy-cons that are currently being used on the current model when third-party companies like bin-bok not only make superior joy-cons but charging docs that don't scratch the screen when placed; and 64 gigs of storage? well whoop-dee do, what a huge improvement. Not like Ps3 and XBox 360 didn't have that right from the start.
And also, if anyone still believe the fantasy that Nintendo is incapable of creating a more powerful console like the ps4 or Xbox One or that they don't have as much money as Sony or Microsoft, let me remind you that Nintendo is the most wealthy game developer in Japan and are more that capable of making a console that's just as powerful as the Ps5 and the Series X if they wanted to, but won't since their board of directors in Japan are so tight fisted with the companies spending as well as a lack of vision to see Sony or Microsoft as competition, which would force them to do better.
Definitely have to agree with the visuals; These courses look as bland as ever and look about like any other golf courses you'd find in other golf games and lack that creative, mushroom kingdom aesthetic spark that Toadstool Tour had.
Wow, this article totally doesn't sound like a soapbox rant from the get-go
I don't mind paying full price for Dread because it's a brand new game in the series and I liked what I saw from the tree-house footage, but I would take issue if it were a re-release, full-priced port of say the Prime Trilogy with no changes made, aside from a different control scheme and upscale to the screen ratio.
@locard At least Sony and Microsoft are releasing brand new games that take advantage of the Series S and PS5s processing power while the Switch only gets 2-3 year ports of last gen games and overpriced re-releases of their first party titles with only a small sample of new first-party titles in-between those releases and most of those are just spin-offs.
@JayJ It's not helping them in the competition(or lack thereof) with Sony and Microsoft, either. Especially since both of those companies' newer consoles offer better wifi and ui interface options along with a more diverse variety of software, both old and new.
Imagine having 3 console generations to get wifi right and not being able to offer a stable firmware update or a stable online infrastructure after 4 years of a consoles lifecycle.
And no, you can't blame COVID because this(NSO problem) started all the way back in 2017 when the Switch first launched and they have yet to address (some) these problems nor fix them in a timely manner.
While I did enjoy their E3 Direct and what was shown, that doesn't mean I'm going to give them a free pass on the stupid decisions they've made for the past year and a half and neither should anyone else for that matter.
The NSO service as a whole
Joy-Con Drift
and now this.
My confidence in Nintendo as a credible company is all but gone at this point and I would dare anyone try to defend them after this without looking like a fool.
@acNewUpdates I feel the same way when people (and this website) compare Immortal: Phoenix Rising and say it's a BOTW clone when they're both open-word adventure games along like Skyrim.
As someone who as played the first two games in the series on Switch, the main flaw that both games have are the stuttering framerate and the loot system being completely sparse and random instead of being earned based on difficulty of the enemy like in DS
@sanderev You are aware, (or should be) that piracy only affects less than 5% of a game companies total profits and that those said companies should focus their efforts on more important matters like infrastructure and customer satisfaction instead of punishing them with useless drm to combat those pirates, right?
