I work long days at my job. I'm proud of the work we do. I get paid to do the work. No one puts my name on the work. My salary is my compensation. If you want bragging rights, tag it.
I would have used a single ROM and then set flags based on a handful of criteria like system clock, battery percentage, free system memory and nabbed some accelerometer data at the last second to create some pseudorandomness in the initial setup. One ROM and pretty much everyone gets a unique experience.
Assuming all the folks that say you can't spoil a fifteen year old game must have played the game fifteen years ago and there is no one left on earth who hasn't? I bet the same folks talk through the movie because they've seen it before.
I think you should be able to opt-in to a tropical storm 'event'. Several days warning etc., a couple of rainy windy days and then you wake up and the storm has rearranged the waterways and land, some trees and flowers are gone, etc. A reset of sorts but not complete.
This is a seriously clunky solution. It could have been made less clunkidious by having a wee checkmark-remember-me-thingy so we wouldn't need to scan the qr codes each time and at least in my case, forget the ad-hoc network in between each connection. How about initiating the connection with NFC.
This genre is really growing on me. I really enjoyed 'What Remains of Edith Finch.' My struggle with some games is that if I put it down for a day or so(because life gets in the way), I can't remember the thread I need to follow when I pick it back up. Does it have a 'journal' or some feature like that?
In the era of server virtualization, I struggle with the 'cost of servers' argument. Just scale the VS down and shift the resources to a different VS for a newer game. The profits generated by the sale of AC Amiibo cards alone should feed all the server hamsters.
What I struggle with is the 'they're just doing it this way for the money' comments. The video game industry is not a not-for-profit endeavor. Of course it's for the money. The 'money' is the reason we all have a piece of electrogadgetry with which to make these comments. How much is a phone? And the plan attached to it? And the case on it? Remember when everyone was howling for Nintendo to close the coffin on the 3ds? Did anyone not realize that Nintendo's goal was for everyone in the household to have a Switch? Was the Switch Lite not the greatest clue ever of Nintendo's plan? It's a personal electronic device. The era of sitting in the same room and taking turns is OVER. Everyone fire up their Switch and we'll visit each other's islands.
I got it for Christmas and still play most mornings. If they can create a sequel with combat or capturing things or multiplayer anything, I'll never stop. I'm 50 years old and I love being able to customize my workout based on which part of my body doesn't work on any given morning.
This many data restrictions smells like microtransactions or some other nefarious purchase/licensing of DLC or content scheme. Those cat tickets are gonna cost real money.
How bout the pre-order bonus be an early release. I'm free starting Saturday morning. Doh! Sorry. I don't want any game devs dying from overwork. But I'm not adverse to some Corp shaming for the delay.
Corps lying. Products not meeting deadlines. Products not meeting expectations. Never expect more out of any human than you give. Build a bridge and get over it. People have real lives with real problems. All this Pokefraud is a pissing into the wind.
The death threat thing is out of line. I guess they are victims of their own success. Fame/success often attracts fringe personalities.
But less people would be frustrated if the frustrations were less. The Apollo program cost around $26 billion and put man on the moon. Pokemon as a franchise has had revenues of nearly $100 billion, I think. I haven't played since Black, so I wouldn't call myself a fan but even I was getting excited about Pokemon on Switch. Not everything had to be done at once. New areas or regions and Pokemon could be delivered as dlc. It's too early and I couldn't sleep so ignore all of this.
After seeing the picture, all I could think about was how cool it would be if the Switch Lite was available in black. BUT then I remembered how popular Atomic Purple was.
Maybe they could use it in Harvest Moon type games or Stardew Valley (just started playing) where things need to be harvested. I can see it as a 'Friend online 'notification or some other while-sleeping message-in-a-bottle spot pass street pass thing.
@nofriendo The problem with the court of public opinion is that it generally is a court of the heart and not law. We don't know the whole story. We get an algorithm washed social media slanted view of the facts. In a court of law the facts would come out. If the company exploited contributors, we'd KNOW it. If they didn't, we'd KNOW it. In the court of public opinion, we never KNOW it, we just get to feel it. Taking your dirty laundry to social media isn't any different than review bombing a game because you're mad at the company.
Parents win: If it's about addiction, the plaintiffs will donate all awards to combating addiction. If it's about getting money out of a video game company, they'll keep the money they are awarded. If they say it's about sending a message to the video game companies, it was really about the money.
Company wins: Legal fees impact year on year profits. Game prices and microtransaction costs go up. Generally speaking, businesses don't get squeezed, consumers do.
I am an American living in Haiti. I see every day, countless ways to ruin a child's life that don't include running water, indoor toilets or electricity. I guess 'ruined' is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm seeing some Christmas gifts for family. Finally the green JCs that I've been wanting from the beginning. I just finished my annual play-through of Half-Life 2 (via Steam). If you haven't ever played it, you owe to yourself. It's an older FPS, but stands up well even now. As older ports go, I'd rather play it on switch than any of Doom 1 or 2.
In any case, lots of interesting stuff on the list. Should be something for everyone.
@BlackTalon2 Sadly, no. I was just suggesting ways that Nintendo could have made owning two Switches better by allowing us to sync all game save data. There are several technical solutions, but using Amiibos would have been simple.
@BarefootBowser Yeah, it's not rocket science, but cross device syncing between phones, e-readers, email and most other things requires little if any thought. I'd settle for something close to StreetPass level here. When my two Switches are near each other, sync the latest game state info. LoFi solution: Let me buy an Amiibo that that I can tap on one and then tap on the other to move save data.
If they could simplify the game save sync issue between consoles (for all games), I'd add a Lite to the stable for $189. If they had put a 3ds gameslot on it so that families could still leverage their 3ds game libraries, I would have pre-ordered. We'll, maybe not. Those colors suck.
I'm waiting for the Atomic Purple model. Do you hear me Nintendo? Parents are paying for these consoles. Kids will play whatever the hell color we give them. Never heard a kid ask for anything in yellow, gray or turquoise. Were you picking paint colors for the guest room? ATOMIC PURPLE! And you Chinese seller whose business name phonetically sounds wierd and is impossibly spelled, I need you to make some kind of simple-cool aftermarket LED mod for it that makes women swoon and men feel unmanned.
I just have to keep reminding myself that paying for the online service is still a form of paying for these games again. 20 games is easier to swallow than $5 a pop though. 'He who controls the spice...' and all that.
There's a fair amount of mixing but not so much matching going on. I feel like the ability to order custom joy con sets would be a great perk for NSO members.
@JHDK I hear ya. It is PR spin. The reason why the work/life balance and we'll sell-no-wine-before-its-time spiel sounds so good is because corporate business doesn't work that way. You pick the date and deliver the product. If you have to hire more devs so that everyone gets to see their family, that's fine. I don't feel like a loyal fan when you delay the game, I feel like a fish that is already on the hook waiting while you bait the next hook for Pokemon fans and another hook for a BotW sequel that is so far away I'll probably be playing it on my Switch DS AR.
And PR dude, next time have an actual developer deliver the bad news. It would have given the whole announcement some credibility.
@shoeses Exactly. Talking out of both sides of the mouth Nintendo. I really doubt any of this has to do with work/life balance but if it does, that's a project management problem. If you pick the release date, you allocate the resources in such a way that your people have a good work/life balance AND you deliver on the release date. Plan the work. Work the plan.
I expect AC:NH is or will be done and ready for this fall. Moving the release date to avoid competing with Pokemon seems most likely. Using the 'perfecting the product' excuse is about the only thing you can say to ameliorate fan feelings.
I played the Dsiware version a lot. Just got the full version and it is even more fun! You can find it new for around $20 on that online auction site. You likely won't find it used, it's a niche product.
