It took me a while to get used to saying 'wiimote' back in the day. Joy-Con sounds like someone's prison nickname. I'll adapt. <beavis &butthead laugh here>.
Always interesting to see the 'you forced my hand' argument. 'I bought this console knowing it did not have a VC. Your failure to provide a feature which you did not promise is forcing me to act in a manner that may be or is illegal.' I feel like this may be a form of victim blaming. Nintendo, if you would stop trying to make a profit, I would not need to download ROMs. Your pricing is forcing me to steal.
There'll be a worried Switch owner along here shortly, so let me get this out of the way. This game is being released for the 3ds. Because every game dev on Earth is working on it, your game, the one you're waiting on for the Switch, will be delayed.
It seems like a long wait. I don't have a Switch yet. I hope Nintendo can maintain platform momentum. Makes me wonder if they wanted to wait and see if the Switch would sell well and now they're thinking, 'ok, it's a success, now let's make an online service for it.'
This would be ideal if they made a Creator's Pack that included software development tools and whatnot to create your own. On second thought, Etsy will fill up with plans for cardboard girlfriends.
Can't believe the comment was anything other than 'no comment' or 'we don't comment on future blah blah blah...' Now when the marketing department wakes up and realizes there are screens in the world that they're not making money from, somebody's gonna look wishy-washy.
@thesilverbrick Star Fox Adventures was the first game my girls completely finished. I think we've bought it three different times ('cause everyone needs a copy of their first game.)
I've said it before but I'll say it again, Nintendo is more than capable of maintaining two different console architectures. I'm happy that the Switch is selling well. From a value perspective, I can purchase two 3ds handhelds for the same price as the Switch. There's a deep library for the ds. There's likely around 225 million ds/3ds devices out there. Creating DLC for a game on the 3ds does not jeopardize your Switch investment.
AC on Switch would trigger an immediate Switch purchase. My wife is a big fan through all the AC titles.
AC on mobile? Maybe. But I suspect that if you are an AC fan, the mobile version won't float your boat and you'll end up getting out your 3ds to play NL.
I'm outside the US right now and it looks like rather than travel there for Christmas we'll see if Thing 2 wants to visit us in Haiti (one RT airfare vs two). I'd love to find the SNES mini online and have it brought in-country for the holidays. I originally wanted to buy three, one for me and one for each of the girls. Instead, it went like this: we have a new staff member this year who worked for Target for several years. I mentioned (having forgotten she had worked there) that I wished I knew two or three people who could stand in line and buy them for me. She's like, 'ooh, I should ask my Target peeps.' So, her Target friend ends up getting her one. Mind you, she's not a gamer, not a fan, hadn't heard of the SNES mini until I mentioned it. So there you have it. No mini. Thanks new staffer, for nothing and your welcome for the idea. Thanks Nintendo for your classic systems and your '90s supply chain model. I'm going to go unwad my panties now.
What might be possible with what might be available. That's a mighty big load of might. And for the person who used the reasoning that 'hacking' the SNES Classic would be "a lot less fuss than getting a Pi working...", I hope you break a fingernail while opening your SNES:C. If getting a Pi up and running is fuss for you, try slip-on shoes. 1st year students learn to fuss with the Pi. smh.
If we start whining now, do you think they can find some extra controller-lead length during production? -you know, since we're doing the whole common sense thing now?
This is why going to bed is so dangerous. You think you can take your eyes off the world and get a few hours of shut-eye and BAM!, Nintendo starts talking sense.
Put golden tickets in chocolate bar wrappers. Seriously, if half of all people who will comment here saying '... don't pay the scalpers.' would actually not pay the scalpers we'd likely be fine. But I think it's one of those times when people will tell themselves they shouldn't buy from a scalper, but they will anyway. Shhhhh... I know it's wrong, but this is too important.
I've got it! Encourage everyone to post photos of themselves actually buying in a store or with their receipt...then for the next round of social shaming/encouragement we'll get people to...
I just wish they would fix the image share thing or come up with a easy way to post photos and/or screenshots to twitter from the 3ds. Mailing photos to myself through the browser is insanely slow.
I continue to buy pre-owned. Two young ladies at university, I can barely do pre-owned. Seriously, I'm eagerly hoping that Mario Kart 7 will become a Nintendo Selects title just so the pre-owned price will drop.
I'm still surprised that with all technology phones and the (3ds) have, Tomagotchi games haven't been the rage for all of the last 10 years at least. Keeping a Tomagotchi alive via location based data would have had me walking all over town for 'special food's and whatnot.
I'm an old gamer at 47 years. I started handheld gaming with the Gameboy, Pocket, GBC, Advance and SP then had a DS phat, lite, DSi and then a DSi XL. I've loved them all for their time, but the n3ds xl is my favorite. Probably my old eyes (wearing trifocals), but the smaller 3ds was too small for me at this point in life. It's always sad to see any system reach it's end of production. Long live handheld gaming! (not you Switch, you're probably too big for my pocket and definitely too pricey)...mutters about kids in college and weddings to pay for...
I was standing in a Target store in Missouri last week when the Nintendo guy came in. He stood near the counter and showed his Switch to two employees. I was carefully studying coin cell batteries so I could evesdrop. After 8 minutes of fun and chittering, he left. The case below the Switch display was STILL empty and restocking never came up in their conversation.
How many years now has Nintendo been producing both a handheld system AND a home console? What...no seriously, what changed in the universe that caused Switch owners to believe that Nintendo cannot simultaneously develop, produce and support more than a single platform?
I like handheld gaming. I don't think a Switch will fit in any of my pockets. Long live the handheld!
'...from our perspective, it's important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive.'. Your 'future' is the same as your past: Make hardware that allows you to recycle your catalog of IP and occasionally add a couple of new titles to each generation. How many times have we bought the same titles? We were lined up like effing lemmings to buy 30 not new games (again) and you pulled the cliff out from under us before we could jump off of it. Reggie, latch on to the teat of your cash-cow and squeeze out the hardware so we can buy it. smh.
Is there a comparison anywhere between this and the latest iteration of the N3DSXL? I'm still using a DSXL and would like to upgrade, but I'm an old dude that wears bifocals. My eyes don't need the challenge of 3d but they do long for a bigger screen.
I rolled a successful perception check and disbelieve. Somewhere along the way, Nintendo drank their own Kool-Aid and now they produce all their products like rare Pokemon. It's up to us customers to 'catch 'em all'.
I want an SNES Mini or a GB Mini (that plays handheld games from original GB to GBA. Or better yet, let the user custom pick thirty games from the back catalog and custom write the console. Instant special edition and no frustration about that special missing game or why'd that include that game yada yada yada. They could call it...wait for it...MyNintendo. Do custom cases and controllers and BOOM! Boutique business and no fear of a warehouse full of product no one wants.
The best thing(s) about all these comments is the idea that A: a 'kid' would in any way find the Zapper gun-like enough to play with and B: that any 'kid' would recognize the Zapper as a toy. Most kids these days aren't saying 'dang, they ruined a Zapper', they're saying 'can I get a code for that sick Glock if I preorder MW7?'
I used to be a 'retail-only' kind of guy, and then my daughter and I had ALL of our DS games and both of our systems stolen. Now, I'm thinking that if Nintendo would add a reasonable amount of storage to their handheld systems and provide a cloud-based back up so that when my storage is full I can delete the game from my device and re-add it later that would be ideal. Add another level of customer friendliness by coming up with a family plan where I can group 2-4 systems under one account and pay a family plan annual premium that allows any of the 2-4 devices registered under my family plan to all share the games we've purchased and I think Nintendo would be on to something.
