Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails is a colourful and rather challenging Wii U exclusive from Dakko Dakko, and has already gathered a band of devoted fans. The literal approach to on-rails shooting is certainly fun, albeit a number of gamers may find the level of challenge a bit too much to handle.
As a positive for those unsure of whether to jump in, however, it goes on sales in today's European Nintendo Download Update, down to €4.99 / £4.49 for one week. Dakko Dakko's Rhodri Broadbent has taken to Miiverse to not only remind gamers of the discount, but to confirm that an update is in the works for the title; details are below.
Along with the sale, the other big news for Scram Kitty fans is that we're working on releasing an update for the game. As well as fixing a couple of stage progression issues that have been pointed out to us on Miiverse (thanks, Miiverse!) - the update will also improve the balance of a number of stages, and make the double-jump easier to pull off for new players and veterans alike.
With the update, you'll find all the mutant mice to be more entertaining and more rewarding to battle, while encounters with Mouse Commanders will be a bit more strategic and less frantic. We're just putting the finishing touches to the update, and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready (it hopefully won't be long, but there's a lot of testing to do!).
It'll be interesting to see how these tweaks adjust the experience, and it seems we don't have long to wait. Are you a fan of Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, or perhaps just holding off to see what improvements the update brings? Let us know.

Love a bit of Scram Kitty. Thumb-blisteringly unforgiving but it's so nice to have a real challenge.
I just forgot to buy this but will rectify this today due to the sale. And that MK tournament eshop money is certainly helping, thanks to Nintendo Life
Cool, I'll be buying it while it's still on discount for sure.
I'll get it today, I've been waiting to get it at a discount, because it's digital-only and I have a backlog of digital AND retail that stacks -partially virtually- higher than I could stack coins.
Took the plunge with this game last week and was sufficiently moved to register on this site and comment on the review! It's definitely difficult, unevenly so, which, for me, took a bit away from the enjoyment of swinging off rails and shooting stuff. Filled a swear box getting to 80-odd cats. The updates sound like they're exactly what's needed to get more people to appreciate it. Enough for a re-review?
I've been meaning to get around to this one and today's discount seems like the obvious time to take the plunge. The update sounds promising too, hopefully it'll arrive sooner rather than later.
Such a great game. Worth the full price and definitely worth it more so with a discount.
yay! More Scram Kitty love is always nice. That game has been underrated on most sites. (its a fantastic title even though it considered "hard")
I'm a BIG fan of Scram Kitty!
Man, we gamers — myself included — do like an update for our favourite titles, don't we?!!
I'm not sure whether it's the prospect of a great game getting even, erm, greater, or the fact that it reaffirms that the developer is invested in both their product and their fans — which is becoming increasingly rare these days — but either way, a good update flat out rocks!
Bravo Dakko Dakko, can't wait to dive back in to Scram Kitty when the patch goes live.
Oh and by the way, good luck with all that testing, guys!
.
Cool. I'm still waiting for a NA discount on the game ( today? ) but some tweaks to the gameplay to smooth it out is always appreciated. Thank you Dakko Dakko !
Ah good, I found it very difficult to progress beyond the second group of stages.
Good for people who find the game too difficult but I like the challenge. Can I opt out of the update?
A discount should not even be necessary. This is a steal at the regular price. Easily my eShop GOTY, although I haven't played the other SK (Shovel Knight).
But dont get me wrong. Sales are always welcome.
This lools awesome. I love the game. Will hold on the missing levels to play them after the update.
@sinalefa I agree. Even with Shovel Knight and Guacamelee I consider Scram Kitty my Indie game of the year (so far) based on gameplay and originality. Really a fun, unique game that I hope to see a sequel for in the future.
Quite interested, for sure.
@SavoirFaire you might have a point. Altough i think Shovel is a better game. Scram Kitty screams originality and is, to me at least, a new gameplay concept while the othets are nostalgia bombs. The price point of 10 bucks is totally worthy.
Updates are always welcome, but this sadly sounds like they're just toning down the difficulty.
Seriously one of the toughest shoot 'em ups I have ever played.
love YOU, CHASE KITTY!
Watch the profanity please — TBD
Nice, I look forward to trying out the tweaks. I havent really got back to the game after all the other eShop releases.
I hope they will make the game possible to play on TV, at least as an option. To me it is annoying to look on gamepad all the time and all the info is on the TV.
At least they are fixing the jumping. Thank God, because at times it was godawful.
For those in Europe who want to buy the game in this week's sale: my eShop message says the sale lasts until the 10th of August (unlike sales that last at least a week).
@Dave24 You can press minus to switch screens
@Jazzer94 You won a MK tournament hosted by N Life?
@JaxonH Nah I got second though which was £40 eshop credit.

Bought and beat this game last week, collected all the cats. It's a good game, but it has a serious lack of bosses despite the quite challenging levels. It really feels like some of the earlier levels are harder than the later ones, which is strange. The controls are definitely something that you need to practice so if you buy this game don't go in expecting to pick it up too quickly.. I suppose that could change with the update, but I don't imagine they can change it that drastically. This game is definitely worth the current sale price if you want a good, challenging and off the wall game.
@Jazzer94 Very nice! I competed in a few tournaments when I got the game but I haven't played it lately. Plowing through The Last of Us and still helping others hunt in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which btw, we should get down on this weekend if you're up for it...
