I, personally, loved the Wii Remake. It's one of my favorite games on the system alongside Super Mario Galaxy 2. It does a great job of modernizing the film and updates mission objectives as you go up in difficulty like the N64 game does. The multiplayer has the Perk system from COD, but no killstreaks, which is my least favorite part of the COD suite.
I'd say give it a shot before dismissing it outright. (The game is also available on Xbox360 if you have one and/or if it's easier to get a hold of than the Wii version).
It's been so long since I've played Prime 3 that I forget if it's in there, but for the love of good game design, drop the "Find these 12 random mcguffins to access the final area" thing from Prime 1 and 2. It's the definition of needless padding.
I don't understand his complaint. He simply said "It's not like MGS or RE; it's faster so it's annoying". He (or this excerpt) didn't really explain why slow is good and fast is bad. The fact that it's not like those games is great. Not because there's something wrong with those games, but because those games already exist. The E.M.M.I encounters are "like Metroid".
I would be happy if a remaster of the N64 classic was released for Switch, but, to be honest, I would be just as stoked, if not more, if they ported the 2010 version.
The problem isn't that games take time to make, it's that publishers/developers announce games at the beginning of said time. If your game hasn't gone gold, I don't want to hear about it.
I agree. It feels like there's a subgenre of games exclusive to the N64 that I would describe as:
3D Platformers that are adequate for an hour before you come to an impassible door or get completely lost in a honeycomb-like maze, look around for another hour, shrug your shoulders, then never play the game again.
It's terrible that people were left out of the credits and this practice should stop.
That being said, I'm not sure how it would ruin career opportunities. If you put MercurySteam and Metroid Dread on your resume, I'd like to think that the place to which you're applying would sooner call MercurySteam to confirm rather than whip out their Switch, load up their save game, beat the final boss, and study the Staff roll.
The game has one default difficulty and you unlock Hard mode once you beat the game. Bosses on the default difficulty are tough at first, but become pretty easy once you "get it".
Attempts 1 & 2 = This is impossible Attempts 3 & 4 = Wait...I think I see what's happening here Attempt 5 = You only get hit once or twice and the boss is dead.
I'm knee deep in Metroid Dread right now. My brain can't handle two more Metroidvanias at the moment. Plus, my wallet is hurting from life stuff. Hopefully, these won't be sold out around Thanksgiving or later when I'm ready.
Metroidvania and Open World are sibling genres already. The next Metroid game being "Open World" isn't a stretch.
Jedi: Fallen Order and Batman: Arkham Knight are pretty much Metroidvania Open Worlds. Take one of those (Fallen Order if Samus is going to multiple planets, Arkham Knight if she's sticking to one), put it in First Person, add the Gunship and there you have it.
Agreed. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle got rid of the open world and is a better game than the first one as a result. I was excited for this game, but between going all the way back to first game in terms of design and all the visual flourishes taken from Travis Strikes Again, I'll have to proceed cautiously.
@harrystein Agreed. Hollow Knight was fun for the first half, but then, it just... kept going. The game outstayed it's welcome by about 10 hours...and that's without all the ridiculous loops you're expected to jump through to get the "True" ending.
How people think it surpasses Super Metroid is beyond me.
That being said, avoid accusing people of "having no lives". Time management is a thing and there are plenty of great games that are double (even triple or more) Hollow Knight's length. The problem is padding, not the raw hours themselves.
The end of this article brings up a good point. I wonder how many children will be psychologically scarred for life because of parents who look at the title and box art, but miss the M/Pegi18 rating.
In the first year, on top of the obvious titles (Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2, Super Metroid, DKC 1&2, Super Punch Out, Ninja Gaiden), I had an unnatural obsession with Wario's Woods.
That being said, I usually avoid being negative, but I can't say I disagree with the people saying that the service is disappointing. I let my subscription lapse after 12 months.
It's only $20.00 a year, yet, it's still overpriced.
2 is good, but 3 is better. X is good. Very good, in fact. Nostalgia just points me more towards 3. I think X2 is the popular choice among people, but I'm not afraid to say, I put it at the bottom of the first 3 X's because I find it to be the most difficult.
X6 is a weird one. I'm sure there are other examples in the gaming world, but I can't think of another game that is so terrible...yet has such a not terrible Soundtrack.
@RustedHero I've been saying this for years. When movie studios start work on movie, they put out a press release that says "Hey, we're working on a movie". When they have actual footage, they put together a trailer. Video Game companies, however, invent footage the second the devs start coding. The time and money that went into this trailer should've gone into the game itself.
Considering how bad the drift has gotten on my left joycon, playing the Switch docked with my pro controller is the only practical way for me to play. Needless to say, I vehemently disagree with this guy.
I'd be interested in this trilogy since I am a fan of all 3 of these games. Whether or not a buy it depends on extras and price, since I own all of these on my PS3.
Agreed. I've always been a fan of the console versions, so I picked up the first Arcade version. The controls felt like Mac moved a full second after I hit the button. In a game where timing and reflexes are everything, this is unforgivable. Nice bit of history, but in terms of playability, what's the point?
I love the first game and will be picking this up...but $50.00? I know the technical shortcomings are part of the charm, but when a video game is objectively busted, a discount is required.
WWE All Stars is amazing. This looks like it's going for that style, but, visually at least, they overshot. That being said, if the reviews are solid, I'll put it on the list.
Does Resident Evil 4 "need" a remake? No. But, if they manage to improve it, I don't see a problem. It'll sell like Hotcakes unless it's downright terrible.
That being said, this is a bigger risk than remaking 2 or 3. A good amount of people think the PSone version of RE3 is better, but the remake is still a fine game on its own merits AND if you want to play the 1999 version of RE3, you have some legwork ahead of you. Whereas if they mess up RE4, the superior original is alphabetically right next to it in the shop.
What's wrong with Limited Run Games? I've never tried them, but I'm tempted to this time around. What should I look out for (or run away screaming from)?
I don't understand how you demo Animal Crossing in a convention setting. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that could win you over in 20 minutes and no sound. Cut down a tree, craft something, pole vault, catch a bug... "So, what did you think"?
Also, (slightly off-topic) Nintendo usually comes to PAX EAST with a dozen or so games in tow. This year, they're all in on a game that will be out in under a month? Is it the last Switch game ever?
It's very probably Travis Touchdown. That being said, I don't play Smash anymore, so if this announcement doesn't also come with a reveal of a No More Heroes 1 + 2 Collection, I really don't care.
1) Isn't the entire actual Doom franchise available on Switch at this point? 2) Survival/Horde is a mode available for free in other games, but they are charging us for just that here? If this is more than $9.99 USD, that's a no from me.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?
I found it to be rather meh.
DLC, Ports, and remasters galore. The two most hype announcements are opportunities to play decades-old games.
Aside from Zelda and Pikmin (a franchise I don't care about), nothing new is on the horizon.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct
Can we get some Punch-Out!! news? If not a new entry, a port of the Wii version?

Re: Anniversary: Fans Celebrate As Metroid Prime Turns 20 Years Old
Metroid Prime is mostly great, but the game comes to a screeching halt because of the scavenger hunt required to reach the endgame.
Re: Poll: Are You Finding Sonic Origins' Various Editions And DLC Packs Confusing?
These games are $4.99 each on Steam. They drop to $1.25 each when there's a sale.
Save your money. Avoid the headache.

NMH 1 and 2 beat this game by a country light year.
@XBontendo Sad, but true.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Games Of 2021
Metroid Dread is GOTY. I'm glad it (and the franchise) is getting attention and praise.
Re: 'Special Edition' Metroid Dread Report Gives Hints, Tips And Strategies
@neogyo
Yes. You unlock pictures based on your performance and what difficulty you're playing on.
Pictures related to Dread lore are unlocked by collecting items and pics celebrating franchise history are unlocked by beating the game quickly.

Re: Ori's Physical Games Are Getting A New Two-In-One Release On Nintendo Switch

Re: No More Heroes 3 Footage Showcases Open World Segments
@fafonio
Agreed.
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle got rid of the open world and is a better game than the first one as a result. I was excited for this game, but between going all the way back to first game in terms of design and all the visual flourishes taken from Travis Strikes Again, I'll have to proceed cautiously.
Re: Video: No More Heroes 3 Trailer Shows The Importance Of Sushi And Toilets
The core gameplay seems to be classic No More Heroes, but there are uncomfortable amounts of "Travis Strikes Again" creeping into this title.
Hopefully, it's just visual flourishes because the design of that game is woefully disappointing.

Thank you.
In that case, Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive and Sonic Mania Plus for me.

Sega Hardware names always confused me. Which one is the Sega Genesis again? Was NA the only region that called it that, whichever one it is?
