@SLIGEACH_EIRE And? Their main public is on other platforms, and developing to Wii U with parity would cost the most (much more optimization to the weaker console, for example) and profit the least.
They gain nothing by making people who can buy in other consoles buy it on Nintendo instead, so those version are only really targeting those who are Nintendo only. Do you really think there's enough of them to justify putting all the money required for parity, principally looking at Wii U numbers?
@Einherjar I don't think that's the point (If this is true). They need a good line up, and so they wanted to be sure Mario would be ready for March before announcing NX, as it could be delayed otherwise.
EDIT: Also, it depends on when thry started. Even Mario 2D could not be running perfectly if they started a in the last couple of months...
Plot twist: They will announce the #1000 Pokemon, who can only be obtained by purchasing it's amiibo, codenamed NX, which is also a gaming device as you can play Pokemon Go on it (and only that).
@ShadJV Totally. I was just pointing out what the article was referring to. Once is on the web, there is no way to remove it completely, one can find it if they really want to, but they need to know it exists first.
@Ninten-san @Utena-mobile I think this is more about "Nintendo wouldn't know if you didn't reported it". Basically blaming NL for the C&D the next day after they highlight it.
@Tsusasi, I'm asking why a October reveal is increasingly more logical (that is, is getting more likely) as the text suggests. This "has to be before November" argument is months old, since Nintendo skipped TGS, September was pretty much out of question then, that was the peak for a October reveal chances.
October is around the corner, so Oct chances are shrinking a little every day that Nintendo doesn't start the build up or announces the Direct/event day.
And, as I said in a later post, I don't think they would reveal it in PGW, but if they plan on revealing before PGW, then it would make sense for them to showcase it, or at least show some trailers. So, if anything, this news reduces the chances of it being in late Oct, and practically excludes the chances for the first half of Oct.
"Perhaps, as October does seem increasingly logical as a potential window for unveiling the system."
Increasingly? How so? If they were to unveil NX in October, wouldn't they want to showcase the line-up in the event? Or at least BotW running on NX...
Is there any reason to think it will be in October besides personal opinion on when is the best moment to reveal?
@ThanosReXXX "Nintendo needs to start listening to their fans, the market and reason, and none of these are an incentive for introducing a hybrid device..." Fans complains about not enough games, reason tells they should stick to 1 platform to have a decent output, market says that platform is a handheld. Put a HDMI out and call it "hybrid" so they don't lose all TV-only gamers and there you have it...
Not saying it will be or not, but that's a reasonable direction Nintendo could choose.
@Vegaphil and PS3 is still receiving titles (Persona at the very least). Its all about how many consumers are still buying games for that system, not lifetime sales.
EDIT: Plus, this is square, they made FFX HD for PS3 months after PS4 launch, to then sell the game again in PS4 and finally exactly 1 year later they put it on Steam, guess for what?
Nintendo will take it down in 1 week just like they did with emulators on Android... Oh, wait...
Honestly, Nintendo should hire less lawyers and more people to study why iTunes, Netflix and Steam succeeded in environments which were far more infested with piracy. A tip: pleasing costumers had a higher priority over blocking pirates.
I'm only imagining the number of meltdowns if they end it with "One more thing... Nintendo is making detachable controllers to iPhone, they call it NX" lol
@aaronsullivan If the detachable controls can attach on any side, then you could put the display on vertical and play it like a 2ds (or gamepad, but now with buttons too). In a vertical 6" display, the upper screen would be about the same size of the original 3ds'. Not ideal, but at least we could have BC on the go.
The only real problem would be the stylus and maybe architecture (IF Nintendo changes it and NX is not powerful enough to emulate 3ds, which I doubt, but...)
@hieveryone @GeminiSaint @Nonno_Umby I'd imagine the pipe had a lot of importance on the decision too. There's no better way for "Mario" making his entry and there's no iconic anime character who would fill in better to create a pipe from Japan to Brazil than Doraemon.
@ThanosReXXX No offense taken. Maybe the problem was that I was talking about the concept not those mockup, it definitely shouldn't look similar to the gamepad (maybe its time to revive the gameboy brand, after PKMN GO)... Anyway, I will stop here too. Great to discuss with you. Have a good night!
@ThanosReXXX Again, you're saying this because your perception of this rumor is a "home console which gonr portable" instead of "handheld you can plug on TV and use normal controllers".
If the base is sold separately we would have the same situation: People buying Sony consoles and Nintendo handhelds, and those few who want PS4 games portable and Nintendo games on TV with pro controllers in the future can buy the extra, though their experience is limited (one requires internet the other doesn't have top graphics).
@ThanosReXXX Its not just making it higher spec. You're proposing something a little above PS4 when Sony is about to launch PS4Neo. With this and all I said earlier, we would see again 3rd party support for a few months until they abandon it again. Do you really believe people will not immediately think "underpowered and without 3rd party, its the wii u all over again"?
Also PS4 remote play with Vita IS a Wii U done better ("gamepad" sold separately which plays its own game and can stream outside home). But you don't see it like this, because in your perception PS4 is a console and RP is an extra. If your perception is that this is a tablet/handheld and TV out is an extra, you wouldn't see this as Wii U 2 neither.
@ThanosReXXX What you proposed (2~3TF) would also count as "Wii U done better". The WU had normal control layout (besides screen), power a little above last gen, it mostly dropped motion controls, its architecture was close to XB360 (at its conception, nobody knew Sony/MS would go x86). All of that to attract 3rd party AAA. It just failed miserably.
And is all about perception, this rumor could be masked as a "complete departure" as long as they don't market it as a console but as a tablet which is powerful, optimized for gaming and offer physical controls out-of-the-box which is also an easy-to-setup local multiplayer at anywhere. Even more if it plays all Android games.
@ThanosReXXX Certainly. The real question is if they will unify or not. If console continues separated from handheld, then PS4 specs or a little above is practically a given.
If they merge though, I imagine they will launch the best $199 console with mobile components possible and wait the tech be cheap enough to make a handheld for the same price (console would then get a price drop) or immediately do a handheld with a base, like this rumor.
@ThanosReXXX The original argument was "Nintendo is using OSVR" and "OSVR requires 3.49 teraflops" therefore "NX has 3.49+TF". If they use another tech for VR, the argument is void, as VR can get as low as only needing a phone (cardbox).
Quite honestly, the only way I see for an under $400 console+VR at this point, is this tablet rumor combined with a cardbox-like, any more than that isn't what Nintendo would call affordable.
@ThanosReXXX Here's the full quote: "We're also researching VR, so we have the core technology. Long play sessions are an issue. We want to release something... ...that can be played for long periods, carries value, and is affordable. We want parents to feel at ease." affordable definitively conflicts with a device that alone cost more than the Wii U and still requires a 3.49 teraflops console, which also costs much more than a Wii U.
@ThanosReXXX These are just analyst speculations about Pixart's possibly making a huge deal. This isn't a document from Nintendo, not even from Pixart. And that same source even claimed NX didn't had VR before, so why should I believe a leak in a translation from a Chinatimes article?
And its not Nintendo OS, at least not the console's, its the VR platform. That image literally means their relation with VR is the same as Android with phones, unlike Apple with phones, Nintendo with VR and apples with oranges. They aren't implying anything about supporting NX. At best, they're throwing a hint, to build up hype from Nintendo fans (since all other platforms will have VR), without promising anything - Its far from saying they have a deal or even know NX at all.
@ThanosReXXX #20: While I'm not buying these or any other rumors, but the list is flawed. Besides conflicts with other rumors:
1) Nintendo said it would never develop mobile phones and Myamoto said they weren't working on a 3DS revision, right before XL being announced, they said they would take care of the droughts, etc...
2) "3rd party" doesn't means "AAA multiplats", 3DS receives a good amount of them and with a mobile chip, it should be easy for mobile developers to develop for them, like Konami.
3) OSVR used Nintendo as a example of "closed platform for VR" similar to Apple is to smartphones, and says "we're like Android". Assuming they know anything, this means NX have a proprietary VR (which could be a cardbox-like for all we know), not that it runs OSVR.
One thing I really doubt though is Nintendo making a console powerhouse, not in a mid-gen. People who care about multiplats already have something which runs them and are much more reliable (who can guarantee 3rd party will not launch it unoptimized, delayed and/or with DLCs missing? Principally after Wii U). Their target should be a secondary console or people who don't care about them - both most likely won't feel like paying 400 just for a few Nintendo games "in 1080p/60". And history proves majority of their client prefer price+portability over power, with handheld selling much better in every single generation.
@Nego Because I had around 500 points before doing anything related to Miitomo, so I'd imagine people without Miitomo would be around 750 by then. But that was because I had a club nintendo account and received a 200 platinum code for that. Totally forgot that until I looked to my points history.
@Nego You can get 120 platinum points per week (I'd imagine you don't know since you're still at 550) by loging in eShop, miiverse, My Nintendo (you have to click on the coin near your mii) and Nintendo official site (it doesn't shows on missions, but you do get the points). Each of these earns you 30 points weekly.
Also, its possible to install the miitomo apk from outside Google Play, not sure if they allow you to login with an NNID which isn't from the limited countries though.
@Moon In a rough estimate, $40k = 1k $40 games sold. So, it have about the same profit as 30k game copies in a month worldwide, which IF it was a game, it would be a failure, as majority of a game sale comes from the first month.
This is a social network though, and their real gains come only after it explodes in user count (if they explode). So its all about how many new users will be brought by current users...
@Hordak That's what backup is for. As long as it is implemented right by Nin/Sony/MS and the user do it right, it's safer than physical, which can be stolen, damaged, lost or even destroyed (like the house caughting fire), while you can have multiple backups in different locations for a cheap price (principally Nintendo which you only need 500gb for the entire Wii U library).
IMO, they should put limited editions from things fans will droll over in the My Nintendo, in a way that to get it in the first weeks of service, people will have to get achievements in Miitomo.
The biggest hurdle to a social network is getting a lot of people in the beginning, then it will spread mostly by itself (supposing people like it, that is).
@TTGlider It would be the same if this app was physical, this is just like how you can't play MK Wii online anymore, anything which requires a server is bound to stop working some day, although this case was quite short...
@ElkinFencer10 Not really. Currently CA$44.99 = $31.50, so the best he could save is $1.50 if he gets free shipping and no import tax. That's the sad truth when your country's currency is devalued...
I think it just so happens that most (if not all) games since then were just about a couple GBs so NoE thought it was not necessary, but this game is huge, plus they are allowing data pack preload so not offering preload would only create unnecessary displeasure from fans with Nintendo.
@Humphries90 There's no reason to believe they won't allow preload too. This mean you can download the full game Monday and start playing the minute the game releases.
@ThomasBW84 On those rare drops, were you perhaps not destroying the body parts? I remember reading that you can only get some items if you destroy parts (and was one reason to not use Mech all the time).
@Damo, the guy who 'leaked' these pictures on twitter said in his answers the same equipment on Elma looked just like the Japanese version. I think its worth to update and point that in the article (I know you said she is the only confirmed, but many would think everyone was censured, when its already said not to be the case).
@SanderEvers Sony and MS get much mor money from software than hardware, thats why they sometimes sell at loss. Making it straight out PC means that the software money will go to Valve. MS could make the most accessible Steam Box, because they can give Windows even for free, they even cogited to run Windows on Xbo , but they didn't because people would buy games from other stores. Sony doesn't own Windows, doesn't have enough first party games and their PC division was in the red before they shut it down. Why in the world would they throw away a market which clearly still exists?
@DarthNocturnal There is. They have been using a safer strategy to increase its popularity overseas: They launch the game in Japan, where people love it enough to dismiss possible mistakes from Capcom, get their feedback, make a better version from it and launch it outside Japan. That way, the chance of people trying and not liking is reduced, not mention the hate over yearly releases.
Not sure when they will think it grow enough for a more bolder strategy (that is, yearly releases here too), but more than half sales coming from Japan alone means it has a lot of space to grow.
@Einherjar, you just need to go in settings and change the language. Since there are EU options like UK here, I imagine the app doesn't have region lock.

https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/11/super_smash_bros_for_wii_u_pre_purchase_and_pre_load_now_available_on_the_eshop
I think it just so happens that most (if not all) games since then were just about a couple GBs so NoE thought it was not necessary, but this game is huge, plus they are allowing data pack preload so not offering preload would only create unnecessary displeasure from fans with Nintendo.
Re: Europeans Will Be Able To Download Xenoblade Chronicles X's Data Packs Early Next Week
@Humphries90 There's no reason to believe they won't allow preload too. This mean you can download the full game Monday and start playing the minute the game releases.
Re: Preview: Getting Lost in the World of Xenoblade Chronicles X
@ThomasBW84 On those rare drops, were you perhaps not destroying the body parts? I remember reading that you can only get some items if you destroy parts (and was one reason to not use Mech all the time).

Yes! Do It!
Re: Nintendo Is Making Female Characters Cover Up For The Western Version Of Xenoblade Chronicles X
@Damo, the guy who 'leaked' these pictures on twitter said in his answers the same equipment on Elma looked just like the Japanese version. I think its worth to update and point that in the article (I know you said she is the only confirmed, but many would think everyone was censured, when its already said not to be the case).
Re: Analysts Talk About Nintendo's Upcoming Mobile Release Strategy
@SanderEvers Sony and MS get much mor money from software than hardware, thats why they sometimes sell at loss. Making it straight out PC means that the software money will go to Valve. MS could make the most accessible Steam Box, because they can give Windows even for free, they even cogited to run Windows on Xbo , but they didn't because people would buy games from other stores. Sony doesn't own Windows, doesn't have enough first party games and their PC division was in the red before they shut it down. Why in the world would they throw away a market which clearly still exists?
Re: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Passes Four Million Global Sales
@DarthNocturnal There is. They have been using a safer strategy to increase its popularity overseas: They launch the game in Japan, where people love it enough to dismiss possible mistakes from Capcom, get their feedback, make a better version from it and launch it outside Japan. That way, the chance of people trying and not liking is reduced, not mention the hate over yearly releases.
Not sure when they will think it grow enough for a more bolder strategy (that is, yearly releases here too), but more than half sales coming from Japan alone means it has a lot of space to grow.
Re: Crunchyroll Wii U App Can Now Be Used Without A Subscription
@Einherjar, you just need to go in settings and change the language. Since there are EU options like UK here, I imagine the app doesn't have region lock.
