Nice to see those QoLs. Amazing game, I'm having a blast and my main complaint is that I didn't know the original existed when I was younger and had time to replay 40+h games.
@Sisilly_G given how long it took for Goldeneye to release in Japan and how JFG wasn't in their roadmap, there's a good chance Nintendo thought they could lower Goldeneye rating too, but failed to do so and went with this 18+ app since they had already announced Goldeneye.
The double gold coins convinced me to get it this time. If they put the vouchers back in America's Pak or at least keep this double coins, I would keep renewing for the foreseeable future.
But without means of making part of the upfront cost back, there's not enough content for me yet. I don't play retro games enough for the rental price to be worth it, but if the library was large enough that most of the times I feel like playing a retro game I actually can, then I'm fine paying the $50 rental every year. GB family would make a big difference here.
The DLCs were a nice addition, and could be a "no-brainer" if I wanted the DLC, but only if I was convinced I would keep renewing for other reasons.
@moodycat The cast and narrative is all new, the tone is closer to XC1 for sure, but I can't say if you will like it or not though. As for the others:
There's no gatcha. The Blade equivalent are gotten through main/side quests only.
Tutorials are clear, concise, you can't progress until you execute the main mechanics and not only can be reviewed anytime, you can redo the battle anytime too.
The world is like XC1 from I gathered, except there are multiple biomes per loading zone.
@dugan NL and a couple other reviews said they tell you everything you need to know and is standalone.
There will almost certainly be connections which will give more context/enjoyment on some parts, but by no means it's the meat of the game. If you feel like you won't play the previous game otherwise, then by all means start with 3.
@Matroska standalone means it is fine on it's own, not that it doesn't have a connection with other games. For example, Zelda games.
@moodycat what did you dislike in XC2? The main reasons people complained about 2 were fixed or really improved in 3, so your reasons might be along them.
@PJOReilly Does it have New Game+ day 1? Are there many things you can't reset nor unequip? For example, I imagine you can't reset Oroborus skill tree or classes level, but for the later I can just use unmastered classes.
I'm thinking over doing an story playthrough on easy, then take my time doing a completionist playthrough on hard, hopefully being able to level down on NG+. Does that sounds a bad idea to you?
@Diogmites it's not "observe before act" it's pretty much just "observe". You're just witnessing a story at different moments in time and noting down what you saw or deduced, then the book will validate what you got right at some points, until you get everything right (or give up and get an incomplete ending).
@JugOfVoodoo the only things moving is you and the few objects you can interact with (like doors).
I only imagine some french politician reading documents full of "All according to keikaku (Note: Keikaku means plan)", flipping the table and saying "if you need to translate then just use the f@#$ing native word instead".
Quite honestly, as long as this is just for government documents, it makes sense. Trying to control public language would be a disaster in the making though.
@SteamEngenius grinding levels in XC1 is not a good idea. The game increases your exp if you're under leveled and reduces it if you're over leveled.
Instead of that, you can spend 10~20 minutes looking up how to improve on combat and on party setup. You can absolutely beat bosses while underleveled and the game keeps you from getting too underleveled if you just beat mobs along the way (once).
And if you don't want to improve, you can activate casual mode (XCDE only) or raise your team Agility (and lower weight) as much as you can. Agility easily break 90% of the game if you are not underleveled.
Let's say we're playing against each other online. You go left for 2s then jump, but due to connection problems my game was only informed about the jump after a significant delay.
On delay based netcode, the game simply freezes until it knows what you did after going left for 2s. When the game it's informed about the jump, it resumes.
On roll back, the game will probably assume you kept going left. When the game is informed about the jump, it "rolls back" to the state before the wrong prediction and recalculate where you should be and update the next frame accordingly. On my game, I will see you teleport to the air.
If the game predicts you right or if the delay was very short, I won't even notice the connection slowed down with roll back, which isn't the case in delay based games, which is why people make such a big deal about it.
There's more to it, like intentionally adding input lag and combining both approaches, but that's the gist.
@MrYuzhai The Kyoto studio which is the one dedicated to help many Nintendo games barely grew since 2017 and is currently just over 30 employees (from 25 or so in 2017). The Tokyo studios which are working on Xenoblade 3 and BotW 2 were the one really hiring and went from 100 to over 200 employees. Source: https://famiboards.com/threads/monolith-soft-development-and-speculation-st.51/
Even if it wasn't, it's ridiculous how every time they want to hire, we get the same "it restarted development". Companies do not need to wait a project transition to hire, they need replacement for retiring employees, they might scale up, they might start a new project in parallel, etc.
Monolith Software has been hiring non-stop since 2017 and they doubled in size. I guess Xenoblade 3 is in dev hell and is probably releasing in 2025 at the earliest.
@gcunit @Silly_G As the article says, a developer group pitched this to WB and got a "it probably wouldn't sell 100k copies" response years ago, so they decided to make a petition to prove WB was wrong and try another pitch.
@arrmixer all mainline Pokemon games are made to be good starting point for the series (and RPG in general). Check out on YouTube the gameplay for all three entries available on Switch and get the one you think it's more to your liking.
They insists because it's true. This clearly is aimed at a niche within Steam userbase. They don't want their userbase migrating to consoles because PC UX for playing on the couch was bad, so they made big picture mode and steam controller. Now they don't want people who wants/need portability to migrate for the Switch.
Deck is also a good way to promote Steam OS 3 and Proton compatibility, since most users will just stay there. Which covers their other problem, which is Windows dependency.
The Deck was clearly not intended for the general public and the super limited production in the first year just shows it was never intended to sell tens of millions.
People just have to remember that Deck isn't an entire platform like Wii U or Vita. It's more akin to a revision like 2DS or Switch Lite, there to add some extra sales not to carry the platform.
And I say this as someone who is potentially going to buy it at scalper price.
My nephews do play in tabletop mode when adults are using on the TV. I played twice with them even. It's just like using a single joycon, it's serviceable, just not that much comfortable.
The new kickstand will be more appreciated than the extra inch as far as tabletop goes... if it comes to a revision I will buy, that is.
To anyone complaining about most mobile games being shovelware, you can just use a site like DekuDeals and sort by popularity or filter by min metacrictic. There are good mobile games, and there would still be LOTS of shovelware even if Nintendo were to forbid all mobile ports.
Nintendo is probably done with it. They can simply offer the sales to everyone instead of charging for it. And physical goods can be used as a NSO selling point.
Only way it would make sense is if it's custom deals. Like, for example, a discount if it's your birthday or offering 50+% off only for those who have the Switch since 2017~2018 and still didn't buy MK8 or BotW.
@redpanda0310 they're talking about gold coins.
Buy digital and you get 5% back in gold coins to spend in the next purchase.
@dimi The Link Evolution on the Switch has all of them. The main campaign is literally going through the story of every single anime. You can also use the character deck if you want to (that is, use Yugi's deck when playing as Yugi and Joey's deck when playing as Joey).
It's a very good game for those who left along the way and aren't interested on catching up with the latest.
Even if we just believe his words, that would still only exclude new form factors, not a new revision using the same form factors. So another non-answer or no "Switch TV-only"/"Switch VR" at best.
@UltimateOtaku91 PS4 and X1S were same price or cheaper than Switch from launch. Pro and 1X were just released as well. That didn't stop the Switch to sell the same as the PS4 launch aligned AND the PS4 to have it's second best selling year (only sightly behind the release of Slim+Pro year).
Switch targets a different market for the most part and the overlapping market isn't a problem, because earlier adopters had a PS4 when the Switch launched and have a Switch now that the PS5 launched, while people who waited 3 years to buy a PS4, waited 3 years for the Switch and aren't getting PS5 on launch. There are exceptions, of course, but for the most part people aren't chosing between Switch and next gen, like they're doing with SX and PS5.
Like the Switch success didn't stop the PS4, next gen aren't stopping Switch's either. Switch sales is peaking now and will most likely slow down in 2021/2022, but that would happen even if next gen weren't coming.
Some comments here are really sad. I guess it's in part because people don't read past the title. But it's because of this childshness and toxicity we get BS PR statements all the time instead of a honest answer.
The devs are being honest here and saying they are spending their finance and dev time on something which will give them more returns. Getting their engine ready for their next new games on 3 platforms is more important than get an old port in 1 platform, even if said platform is doing well.
The Witcher 3 came not only because it was technically possible with effort, but because it's so popular it would make a lot more than what was invested.
@shazbot VGChartz is infamous for being unreliable. People will take you more seriously if you do your own speculation over official numbers instead of using VGChartz as a source.
They sold 9 millions in the first half of this year and 15.6 millions in the second half last year. If they sold the same this year, it would be 24.5 millions in this calendar year. But considering their first half last year was 4.5 millions and reports all around are pointing the momentum isn't over, north of 25 millions is indeed quite likely.
Last quarter official numbers should be out in the last week of October or first week of November, btw.
@Friendly Users have already been able to get an XBox with better graphics and Game Pass for a few years and for cheaper than the Switch.
Quite honestly, XBox strengths are Switch weaknesses, and Switch strenghts are XBox weaknesses. There's a huge difference in what they offer. Maybe if we were talking about entry level devices (One S and Lite), $50 would make a big difference, since thats what price sensitive consumers will be looking at, but otherwise $50 difference will hardly make someone wanting a XSS to buy a Switch instead (and the contrary is also true).
@TG16_IS_BAE It wasn't complex, just completed unrelated to what I said. I already knew all that and didn't say anything which goes contrary to that. Imagine you saying "it's cold today" and someone tags you with "winter is one of the 4 seasons."
I was giving you the chance to fix any possible misunderstanding on my part or yours, but sounds like the misunderstanding was expecting an civil conversation.
@TG16_IS_BAE Sorry, but what's your point? I still don't see why you're marking me.
3D All Stars will work exactly like any other switch digital purchase for the buyers. What's different is that people won't be able to buy it after March.
When the store servers goes down, redownload for all games will go down together with it.
Whether Valve will ever shutdown steam or Nintendo will shutdown the eshop like they did with Wii/DS is something only time will tell. In no point I assumed either way, in case you're thinking I did.
@TG16_IS_BAE and that goes for all digital purchases... The user I replied to was under the impression they couldn't redownload it after March next year, which isn't the case.
@ancientlii Games are tied to accounts, so you can simply sell the account instead. Of course, scalpers could still do it, but it's no different than only selling the physical copy if the buyer purchase their Switch too.
@acmiguens I'm not defending the article. They're basing themselves on VGChartz, which openly admits sometimes their numbers are just guesses. The moment I found out that, it lost all credibility with me.
I'm just clarifying that: 1- When Nintendo says sales, they're referring to shipped/sell-in. And they specifically use "sell-through" to inform consumers sales.
2- It is possible for the sell through number be higher than shipped numbers, specially when the restock can't keep up with sales, because it's a normal practice for retailers to have some stock. If this happened or not last quarter, that's another story.
@acmiguens No, they always provides shipped numbers in their reports. Sold to consumers is rarely provided and they use the term "sell-through" when they do.
@acmiguens There's a difference between sold to retailers (aka shipped) and sold to consumers. Its a normal thing for there being a couple millions units from all retailers stocks in the world, added together. So long as this 4 mi are about final consumers (and scalpers) and not shipped, they can be correct.
Said that, I didn't check the source to see if they're trust worthy or not. Hopefully they're not basing themselves on VGChartz or similar...
EDIT: From the source: "A year after its launch in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch hit 15.5 million sold units worldwide, revealed Statista and VGChartz data."
It's worth to point out that they shipped 52.48mi by Dec 31st, so they only managed to ship 3.3 mi the entire quarter. So these 4.2 mi sales in 1 month reinforce how much the demand surpassed the offer.
If the demand is still this crazy, it will take a few more months for stock and prices to normalize.
@Razer I'm not saying they don't have a close relationship. I'm saying FromSoft won't do an exclusive game for Sony just because of it. Specially when Sony is the richest one in the relationship.
Companies don't think like console warriors either. Sony will not be pissed off with a 3rd party studio for accepting a good business proposal from Nintendo.
Having a great relationship certainly has its perk, mind you, like being easier to bring up the topic and negotiate, or give priority on similar proposals. But business of their size don't survive acting selfless.
@Razer BB is Sony exclusive because Sony paid in some form, not because they were friends. No business on their level would do something like that. A 3rd party studio being hired to do an exclusive in another console isn't going to sour their relationship with Sony either. See SquareEnix and GameFreak (with Nintendo) as examples.
Said that, Nintendo plays too safe for this to happen. They're WAY more likely to fund a few not-expensive but promising IPs like Bayonetta, then pay as much as they would pay for an exclusive in an several-million seller franchise (they would have to at minimum cover the estimated sales lost from not going multiplat).
@rockodoodle Last known numbers are 2.75 mi (June 2019) and not being a million seller in the last fiscal year means it did NOT get to 3.64 mi by March 31st.
2.75 already make it the best selling in the franchise if you don't add rereleases, mind you.
@ramu-chan JRPG is a subgenre of RPG. Arguing that the definition should be takken to the letter would also means that any game where you play a role is a RPG. In other words, this is akin to say Super Mario Bros is a JRPG.
If it bothers you, just consider that J stands for Japanese-style instead.
@Primarina Did those games also used "remake assets" which weren't remade as an excuse to have less content? I doubt there's anyone wanting them remade, just a valid reason for the cuts instead of blatant lies.
Quite honestly, people who don't even bother to understand what is being complained before coming to defense are just throwing oil to the fire.
@Yorumi The site is the same, but the reviewers are different. Emerald was a third version as well, so it's reviewed more harshly too.
Also, there are things in SwSh that fans have been waiting for a long time, add in multiple QoL and it can compensate the frustrations depending on the opinion.
@betterbygames @oatmaster This is not just a guy cheating. He was bringing awareness and setting an example to everyone watching. He ruined matches beyond the ones he participate and even after his ban there will be some of his followers cheating after being influenced by him.
Not mention that exposing himself cheating on Youtube is basically mocking the company behind the games.
Cheaters streaming should have no tolerance given.
@Mana_Knight there were healing items and escape rope since the first game. Mobile PC doesn't make it any safer, just avoid the money/time consuming alternatives.
@Naoto-chi On the contrary, just like the game gets the easiest if you use only 1 or 2 Pokemon with a decent type coverage (making it super overleveled and OHKO everyone), if you keep using Pokemons outside your main 6, the total exp each of them gets is smaller making them underleveled.

I was giving you the chance to fix any possible misunderstanding on my part or yours, but sounds like the misunderstanding was expecting an civil conversation.
Have a good night!
Re: Scalpers Are Already Listing The "Limited" Switch Release Super Mario 3D All-Stars
Re: Scalpers Are Already Listing The "Limited" Switch Release Super Mario 3D All-Stars
@TG16_IS_BAE and that goes for all digital purchases... The user I replied to was under the impression they couldn't redownload it after March next year, which isn't the case.
Re: Scalpers Are Already Listing The "Limited" Switch Release Super Mario 3D All-Stars
@ancientlii Games are tied to accounts, so you can simply sell the account instead. Of course, scalpers could still do it, but it's no different than only selling the physical copy if the buyer purchase their Switch too.
Re: Scalpers Are Already Listing The "Limited" Switch Release Super Mario 3D All-Stars
@LavaTwilight The March limit is for purchase. Those who bought it can still redownload it after they de-list it.
Re: Nintendo Sold 4.2 Million Switch Consoles In March Alone
@acmiguens I'm not defending the article. They're basing themselves on VGChartz, which openly admits sometimes their numbers are just guesses. The moment I found out that, it lost all credibility with me.
I'm just clarifying that:
1- When Nintendo says sales, they're referring to shipped/sell-in. And they specifically use "sell-through" to inform consumers sales.
2- It is possible for the sell through number be higher than shipped numbers, specially when the restock can't keep up with sales, because it's a normal practice for retailers to have some stock. If this happened or not last quarter, that's another story.
Re: Nintendo Sold 4.2 Million Switch Consoles In March Alone
@acmiguens https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2020/200507_4e.pdf
See page 11 for sell-in (including the 21.03 mi number) and page 12 for sell-through. In case you're not familiar with the terms:
https://brandalyzer.blog/2016/07/12/sell-in-sell-out-and-sell-through/
Re: Nintendo Sold 4.2 Million Switch Consoles In March Alone
@acmiguens No, they always provides shipped numbers in their reports. Sold to consumers is rarely provided and they use the term "sell-through" when they do.
Re: Nintendo Sold 4.2 Million Switch Consoles In March Alone
Yeah, can't trust it at all.
Re: Nintendo Sold 4.2 Million Switch Consoles In March Alone
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/01/the_switch_has_overtaken_the_snes_in_lifetime_hardware_sales
Re: Random: Hollywood's "Most Killed Man" Is About To Show Off His Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island
"Most killed man" likes a game where you can't be killed?
It... actually makes a lot of sense.
Re: Dark Souls Series Has Now Sold Over 27 Million Copies Worldwide, FromSoftware Confirms
Re: Dark Souls Series Has Now Sold Over 27 Million Copies Worldwide, FromSoftware Confirms
Re: 18 Nintendo-Published Switch Games Sold More Than A Million Copies This Financial Year
@rockodoodle Last known numbers are 2.75 mi (June 2019) and not being a million seller in the last fiscal year means it did NOT get to 3.64 mi by March 31st.
2.75 already make it the best selling in the franchise if you don't add rereleases, mind you.
Re: Watch Out, Ubisoft - Witcher Studio CD Projekt Is After Your Crown
@Dang69 the difference is written in the article... 9.6bi vs 8bi.
Re: Gorgeous JRPG Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition Is Coming To Switch Next Month
@ramu-chan JRPG is a subgenre of RPG. Arguing that the definition should be takken to the letter would also means that any game where you play a role is a RPG. In other words, this is akin to say Super Mario Bros is a JRPG.
If it bothers you, just consider that J stands for Japanese-style instead.
Re: The Witcher 3 Now Lets You Save Across PC And Switch, Version 3.6 Patch Notes Revealed
I have to say, I'm quite impressed that they even added touch support. I wish more games did the same, at least with menus.
Re: Random: Poor Junichi Masuda Can't Even Enjoy His Birthday Without Someone Moaning About Missing Pokémon
Re: Review: Pokémon Sword And Shield - A Solid Start To Gen 8 On Switch, Despite The Hate
@Yorumi The site is the same, but the reviewers are different. Emerald was a third version as well, so it's reviewed more harshly too.
Also, there are things in SwSh that fans have been waiting for a long time, add in multiple QoL and it can compensate the frustrations depending on the opinion.
Re: Ninja Thinks Pro Players And Streamers Who Cheat Should Be Treated Differently
Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
@Mana_Knight there were healing items and escape rope since the first game. Mobile PC doesn't make it any safer, just avoid the money/time consuming alternatives.
Re: New Game-Changing Features Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
@Naoto-chi On the contrary, just like the game gets the easiest if you use only 1 or 2 Pokemon with a decent type coverage (making it super overleveled and OHKO everyone), if you keep using Pokemons outside your main 6, the total exp each of them gets is smaller making them underleveled.
