Nah, I won't watch. Kinda tired of game show awards being arbitrary.
It's cool that Reggie is there though.
I swear every award show just have a vendetta against Xenoblade, they literally have a Remake category, with Mr. Driller and not Definitive Edition c'mon...
Not gonna watch it, I might look at the results later though.
"Shea Stadium Award for Best Esports Event"
This is funny b/c that stadium was literally torn down - not renamed, torn down and made into a parking lot - over a decade ago.
Which now that I think about it is a fitting title for an "eSports Event" award. 🤣
@rjejr wow really? Award
So help me god, if The Last Of Us Part 2 wins game of the year again...
I think the names of the awards are pretty cringe worthy.... kind of like sandwich names on the menu board of a deli for tourists.
@Charinzardon The problem is, as good as Xenoblade is, it's more than 10 years old now, developed more than 12 years ago, can't even run in HD today, because the "remake" wasn't remade on an entirely new engine, it was made on the same engine they used to make the game on the Wii, they just upgraded that engine (for some strange reason, they didn't upgrade it to play HD games...)
Hence why a game that was actually developed in 2007, can't run in HD in 2020.
It's not really a remake for that reason, technically its an upscaled port.
They don't give awards for upscaled ports.
@Charinzardon in every technical sense of the word, a remake literally means a game that has been remade on a new engine.
Links Awakening on the Switch is a remake.
Xenoblade simply isn't.
Should’ve been FF7R
@Razer Don't tell me Mr. Driller Drill Land is more of a Remake than Xenoblade, also the Game Awards elected Persona 5 Royal in some areas, which is just a upgraded version.
Also, it is a different engine, it uses the Xenoblade X/2/Torna engine, which is not the same as the original.
There's something I dislike about these awards and it's down to the choice of categories.
Having categories like "best writing" and "best acting" means a story driven, cinematic game is eligible for more categories than any other game (Well other than if a story-driven cinematic remake) . If that game wins GOTY it almost certainly is going to pick up those two categories.
The award categories favour a very specific type of game.
@BirdBoy16 My guess is the name is meant to honor the stadium, these awards must have started a year or 2 after the new stadium opened. And the new stadium is a WHOLE lot better than the old stadium, which wss basically a cinder block. The old stadium did have a few good memories though, 69 and 86 World series victories and the game after 9/11.
But it's still funny.
Lol, reggie just cant retire and relax. 👍
...Yeah I'm not falling for watching another Game Awards again. I watched the main GA because I heard about Reggie, Jacksepticeye, new Smash Ultimate fighter revealed, and a new MH Rise trailer would happen.
...The guests only appeared for like, a few seconds. I didn't care for the new fighter reveal, and they didn't even show the full Rise trailer during the event. lol
@Dr_Lugae strongly agree. And they've all become like that. Then again it's clear from the format of all of them and the increasing inclusion of celebrities that everything about them is Hollywood inspired, the panels are likely attached to or detached from the film industry, and it's really wonder what companies fund and organize them.
Then again, assassin's Creed is nominated for best writing.... Isn't that like nominating acnh for best use of visual effects? Not knocking assassin's Creed, but it's an emergent gameplay rpg adventure.... Not a deeply scripted narrative hasn't. How did that get nominated other than "there aren't enough narrative script adventure games to nominate so let's pick something high budget with dialogue to fill the list."
Once we're down to video game award shows where the list of nominees crosses with the list of Oscar nominees (Keanu Reeves), something is wrong with video game awards.
@KayFiOS "so help me" right there with you....
@rjejr don't tell me you're part of the anti-brutalism movement. I love brutalist architecture! It's a travesty it's all being torn down mere decades after it was built!
@NEStalgia The best thing about driving past Shea, which I did numerous times growing up nearby, was it always reminded me of this.
