One of the highlights of 2020 was the indie hit Hades by Supergiant Games. The title was one of the best-selling indies on the Switch eShop and we said it was a heavenly trip to hell, awarding it an outstanding ten out of ten stars.
As you can probably imagine by now it has got some serious mega fans, and one over on Reddit by the name of canhazreddit has gone above and beyond by creating their very own custom arcade cabinet containing this quality roguelike.
The creator goes into a little extra detail, explaining how it's powered by an "i5, Nvidia 1060" (computer components) and the cabinet itself is just a "giant wood" case. The left stick is an UltraStick 360 and while there are coin chutes on the unit, "sadly" they don't actually work.
While the original idea was to use a Nintendo Switch as the source device, unfortunately, they couldn't find exactly what they needed at the time to make this happen.
So Supergiant, time to get one for the office? How about everyone else - would you be interested in a Hades cabinet for your own place? Have you even played Hades yet? Leave a comment down below.

I need one of those in my life, it would be great if it was at a arcade or two, it would be so much fun.
But what am I supposed to throw when Theseaus gets another cheap kill on me?
@Kalmaro I either find him OK when I have a decent build going or find him extremely irritating then die. He’s never a comfortable fight!

Hades was the best thing that happened in 2020, this is a close second! Epic!
@Kalmaro and @Nessisonett Theseus is a pain for ranged weapons, but falls fast to strong melee - Spear, Fists, or Sword on him burn him fast. Get Zeus/Ares/Aphrodite “thorns” buffs (dmg on hit, they all stack), Poseidon’s Dash and/or Special. Try to always get Aphro on basic attack for weakness. If not Pos dash, get Athena for reflect. Always use the mirror buff for invincible after dash.
Everything else after that is basically icing on the cake. I’ve escaped about 96 times so far using the above strategy, or as close as possible.
Now that would be £1 well spent.
@Dm9982 I actually find the rail easiest for him. Stack Artemis buffs with triple special and rockets and you can walk your way to victory.
That looks pretty cool actually.
I've yet to play the game myself, but I've heard a lot of great things about it.
That looks superb and I would love to own it.
What a game Hades is, absolutely brilliant.
@nessisonett that’s not a bad route either! Rail is probably the easiest to escape with, and the first escape I had was with it. Triple volley, or cluster with the Aspect of Eris is pretty godly for clearing rooms. But by far the best boss killer is Aspect of Chiron Bow maxed with Artemis build and Hammer upgrade that increases amount of shots per special. Holy crap it kills bosses and elites fast. Just slow at clearing full rooms.
Very cool!!
I-It's... beautiful!
This is how I feel about roguelite games because they remind me of arcade games. Couldn’t have picked a better game for an arcade cabinet.
If someone had an arcade full of roguelites, I’d go there. Hell, mod them to pop a quarter in to continue the run instead of permadeath.
very nice and big! If l had that, l would be told to throw it out.
@Dm9982 Thanks! I've already beaten the game with all of the weapons so far, slowly climbing up in difficulty as I stack on heat. Really, he's not so bad, it's just if he gets lucku and gets the right God or the bull does something stupid that I have trouble, haha.
I like deflecting his spear back at him.
@nessisonett yeah I never have a normal fight. I either cheese it or he annoys me. It's just keeping an eye on him while dealing with the bull that's frustrating. Alone, they aren't too scary.
@Kalmaro Yeah deflection plus thorns is a fun build, and possibly the only thing that can clear the Satyr tunnels almost as fast as a Poseidon slam build. Also hilarious to let Hades kill himself during his beam attack with stacked thorns. Never realized just how powerful they made the “dmg attacker on hit” boons until I stacked em. Gets crazy fast!
@Dm9982 poseidon slam builds are hilarious and my fall back when I can't think of anything else
That's cool, but I'll admit that I'm a MAME cabinet snob! lol!
As much as I love the bezel art, there's hardly any side art, and that's due to the fact that he's used a flat panel display rather than a CRT! lol!
Now I'm sure that 16:9 CRT PC displays are not nearly as common compared to 16:9 CRT TVs, so doing that would be a pain to pull off. But it's one of the many reasons why games, including PC games, need a 4:3 modes on them. Sure 16:8 is the defacto these days, but even then, most films are shot in 21:9! I can grumble for days about screens! lmao!
Still, it is awesome to see stuff like this, and one day I would love to build my own cabinet. At least I have a Sony Trinitron monitor in the attic for one! ;P
I watched a lot of gameplay before purchasing and was really unsure that I was going to enjoy it as much as everyone else said. But yeah, I needn't have worried. It's quite brilliant.
@Kalmaro Are you telling me you can't lift a full sized Arcade Cabinet and throw it out of the window? Anger has no limit.
@hakjie11 @kalmaro (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I love the game so far, but when people start using words like ‘build’ I feel tired and sad. Can’t I just use random weapons and hope for the best? My ADHD brain can’t deal with much more!
@TryToBeHopeful If you are playing just to win it once or twice, yes. Luck does play a part in this game and can help you win some of the matches, but if you want to master it, it would be more satisfying to understand how weapons and boons work and how those synergise. There's god mode too, for making the game more accessible.
It's the ultimate physical copy of Hades... speaking of which when the hell is this game getting preserved? No cart no buy from me.
@TryToBeHopeful To follow on what San_D said it should be noted that God Mode doesn’t disable anything or prevent anything. It just gives ya 2% extra Damage Reduction every death (capping at 80%) to allow ya to progress slightly further each run so you don’t feel quite as defeated and can beat it slightly easier.
Build isn’t quite the right word anyways, since it’s partly luck on what Gods/Boons spawn per run. Focus is a better word. What Gods you should focus on, and what boons you should hope for from said gods. Build implies you have full control, which isn’t the case lol.
If you have the codex unlocked and can see which Duo Boons there are, that’s a pretty safe way to determine which Gods pair well. I will also add, every run you should try to focus on 2-3 gods. It gives you a better chance at getting Legendary/Duo boons to spawn. An example would be stacking Ares/Zeus for your damage, and Athena on defense (dash). Also Hermès Boons for Dash->Sturdy and Dash->Regen Health are some of the best boons out there, so always try to get Hermès boons when available.
@Brummieendo90 Limited run most likely they did the physicals for bastion and transistor. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
@HollowSpectre
@Brummieendo90
I too usually insist on physical copies, but the temptation to play Hades was too much for me. I bought it in the eShop’s post-Thanksgiving sale for $20, and put 120hrs into the game since, so no regrets. For me, Hades is absolutely worth double- dipping - I’ll be throwing money at whoever offers preorders for a physical cartridge!
Meanwhile that arcade cabinet is rad! Maybe having to stand while playing for hours on end would help curb this Hades compulsion I’ve got! I’ve cleared it maybe 20 times but just keep going.
As someone gaming since the early eighties, I’m really loving roguelikes - they’re like arcade action games with home-game progression and so compelling! Hades, Enter the Gungeon, Rogue Legacy, Children of Morta, and Death Road to Canada are among my most-played games.
@Dm9982 I have GOT to try this.
My fav duo power for cast though is demeter's and Athena for the ultra laser death beams
Most likely HomeBrew or some IP theft to make this happen so that is why they are so quiet on this. For it to run on a PC CPU system would mean something not legal for the most of us to do. Also one has to ask did they get permission or pay them to do this even if this is HomeBrew from the Developer.
@Dm9982 @San_D Thanks, both. I'm gonna skip on god mode for the time being, but yes, I'm happy to randomly win a couple of times, and to focus on achievements and codex things in the mean time.
It's the kind of game I've got not problem with repeatedly doing bad at.
I wish Binding of Isaac was more like that....
@SwitchForce why? It's on Steam?
@TryToBeHopeful Indeed, enjoy the game in the way you like. The game is incredibly good and deserves to be enjoyed. In fact the main character is so cool with everything! Someone says something weird and he is like, yeah man whatever rocks your boat. This is the guy who should be our role model in this age.
@SwitchForce Lol it has been on PC early access since 2018. Here's a great YouTube series celebrating the time the game was being developed. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-THgg8QnvU4JEVov1tMlFThNYS92F8uC
@Severian That’s an excellent idea about requiring quarters
@TryToBeHopeful Binding of Isaac is great, but far more RNG based than Hades, Gungeon, and other rogues. Even after having all char cards at 90%+ runs felt like 50/50 chance to win cause sometimes you just get really crap rolls for loot.... other times every roll is godly and you end up killing Delirium in seconds....
@Antraxx777 Yeah dude. My whole digital lineup of games consists of roguelites besides indie classics such as Slime San and party games like Killer Queen Black and Towerfall. Arcade in my pocket and my living room!
And of course, Mario Kart and Smash.
@Dm9982 At least with Hades, I can work out what's going on. I've really got very little idea of how strategy works in Isaac, and although I enjoy dipping into it now and again, I'm not going to go online and research things that aren't presented to me.
@TryToBeHopeful That’s the problem with Isaac. As much as I love it, it’s largely just down to luck. Not much on strategy besides making choices on certain things like entering a cursed room, or sacrificing some life for gear.
That said, you’ll likely have the easiest times starting out with Cain or Azazel. Cain has bonus luck starting out, and Azazel has flying plus shirt range beam attack which is deadly. Try running with them over and over until you beat it a few times, then switch chars.
Once you fulfill certain conditions, the chars start out with extra stuff like Isaac can start with the D6 which allows him to reroll Upgrades from bosses, golden key rooms, and shops.
