Re: Review: The Long Journey Home - A Thrilling Space Epic Undone By Its Own Spitefulness

@sfb I certainly hope they pay attention to this and fine-tune it to be a little more forgiving. I totally agree that the RNG should be there to dictate pacing, not doom a playthrough outright. It's hard to get into a game where you can do everything right, yet still have zero chances of success is the RNG's aren't favorable.

I hope they get this sorted out, because the premise, visuals, and audio tracks are just begging me to pull the trigger.

@Swindla The price is high?! This was a $40 game when it first came out on PC, they're giving it away at half that now on Switch. Forget the fact that you can get it on sale for 5 bucks on PC, of course they run sales on games that have been out for a long time on a platform. Not sure how low you were expecting this to sell for, but they can't give it away for 5 bucks on Switch considering the development work that goes into porting it over. They don't just magically flip a switch in the code and say "Okay, it works on Nintendo Switch now." Honestly, the price is totally fair and justified for how much gameplay there is to be had here.

“What we're most confused about in regards to ESO is why it's gone from being a storage issue to a power issue.”

I think you might be taking the statement of it not being a “fit” for the Switch too literally, it was likely always a power issue. Whether The Witcher 3 works or not is beside the point, MMO’s have always been a CPU-bound affair from my experience. There’s so much netcode that has to be processed client-side and reflected on the screen at once, it’s not surprising that the Tegra CPU cores just aren’t up to the task.

If they’re able to patch up the issues that plague the Switch version, I’m happy to see it, but it’s going to take a lot of work. If they are able to improve the performance significantly and squash the bugs, it only proves the point... they didn’t do the job correctly the first time around. This crap needs to stop, release a stable game from the get go, even if it does take longer!

@kobashi100 I'm not advocating that it's probably a bad port with poor performance because of the frame-rate cap, there's far more to performance than target FPS. I couldn't care less if it's capped at 30 as long as it's a stable 30 and it doesn't look like a washed out mess due to super low resolution. I'm guessing it has frame-pacing issues, low resolution, blurry textures, missing effects, long loading times, etc... those are reasons to consider it a poor port, not the target FPS. Again, this obviously just me guessing, but this isn't exactly the first time we've seen this play out.

Re: Site News: So, Where’s Our Team Sonic Racing Review?

Ratchet916

@kobashi100 I think you're missing the point, they only sent out review codes for PS4 because it's the best example of the game. Xbone will be on par, but with slightly lower resolution (vanilla PS4 vs. vanilla Xbone) so one one cares really. Not sending out ANY Switch codes is clear indication that they didn't want the review averages to slump based on poor reviews that point to poor performance. This isn't rocket science, think about it.

@patbacknitro18 You're right, other review outlets have gotten codes early, but point me to review outlets that have gotten Switch specific codes for review. Spoiler alert... there are none. Plenty of reviews to be had for every other platform, but none on the Switch specifically. NL is one of the biggest Nintendo review sites around, there's no way they just happened to not make the cut, they've kept review copies out of all Nintendo specific outfits. That doesn't sit well with me, shouldn't for you either.
