Earlier this week, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil locked in a Nintendo Switch release date. The game will arrive on the eShop on 9th August and will require approximately 596.64 MB of free space.
This left many physical collectors wondering when the previously announced hard copy of the games would be announced. Luckily, Limited Run Games has now responded to this feedback, revealing pre-orders for Turok and Turok 2 will become available in a few weeks time, on 16th August:
You've been asking for a release date ever since we announced these titles at E3. Today, we're happy to announce that Turok and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil get physical Limited Runs for the Nintendo Switch on Friday, August 16.
As always, there will only be a limited amount of these games available - so if you're wanting to relive the glory days of the Nintendo 64 generation, you'll need to make sure to snap up both while you can.
Will you be purchasing Turok and Turok 2 in physical form on the Switch? Leave a comment down below.

Jurassic park but injected with metal
I would probably buy it if it was both on the same cart not 2 separate packages.
Both excellent games. Playing now the first on Switch and the port is really great.
I hope the games come to Best Buy. If so I'll buy both day 1.
@Spoony_Tech Agreed, I’d much rather have a collection cart.
This just America ? Or Europe also?
One the one hand I would love to get these, but on the other hand I'm kinda bummed out with the handling of the LRG release of Celeste, so won't be putting more money into this company for now. I know they are waiting for the DLC to be released so that they can add it to the physical edition, but from the beginning the game was supposed to be shipped at the end of March. It's been a long time since then. I know it's not LRG that's making the DLC and I understand it's nice to get it on the card, but for me it could be a free download with the copy. Well well... Got a lot of other games to play while waiting.
Same price as download copy? Of course TUROK still holds the honor of being the most expensive game I ever bought when it launched; $80.00 USD. So paying a premium for this might bring back even more nostalgia!?
Why is "Turok 1" missing its original title, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter?
Hope they do a bundle two pack for a little bit less, but will grab these straight away.
Probably a pass for me as separate releases. If there’s a bundle with a good price or Best Buy puts them up for preorder by October (when my GCU expires) that may change.
As an aside I find it interesting that Best Buy has yet to sell out of a single LRG title. Very low demand I guess.
16th is also the last day to pre-order Rogue Legacy and Timespinner, so if you want all four games you could save on shipping by ordering all four in the same order on the 16th.
I'll go digital. Less plastic and physical the better.
@Quarth : I for one would much rather have the complete final version of the game on cartridge. Yes, the wait can be quite excessive at times, but that's the price you pay if you want to have games like this for prosperity.
I suppose LRG can perhaps consider selling download + physical bundles where they can issue a download code alongside the physical copy of the game, where the download code will be emailed upon payment, and price the bundle just a bit higher than the standalone physical game (as such a bundle can easily be abused if priced as normal).
You cannot fault LRG for the delay as it is the developers who had perhaps miscalculated when the DLC would be ready. LRG had previously delayed the printing of prior releases in anticipation of software updates. I wish more publishers would do likewise. I don't mind if the digital versions of games are released earlier (as that could also aid in identifying bugs), but what's on the cartridge ought to be complete.
It seems to be that most publishers nowadays just pump out cartridges with a buggy, unfinished game and patch everything else in later (and there's no guarantee that they will; case in point, WWE 2K18). Nintendo themselves have released Fire Emblem: Three Houses in an unfinished state in order to rush it to shelves, as they had omitted the Lunatic difficulty from the cartridge (which has been a standard option in previous games) so they can patch it in later, and more recently, there was news that they are going to recast the male protagonist, which will no doubt add to the overall size of the update.
I was quite annoyed when LRG's Night Trap was "updated" some time after receiving the cartridge, as a game of that age should not have needed any further refinements, so I welcome and respect LRG's decision to wait as long as necessary to ensure that the (more or less) final build of the game is what we get on the cart.
It comes with the territory. If you want the game right away, you have the option to download it from the eShop, but if you want a cartridge (and it would stand to reason that those who want a cartridge want the data on it to be complete) it comes at the price of being just a tad more patient to ensure that we can get a product of the highest possible quality.
As someone who was there and buying these games when they were originally released on the N64, I must say that I am genuinely baffled by these releases. Both games were slow, chugging and had very foggy draw distances. the shooting was extremely generic, a real fps by numbers affair. These games were not held in high esteem at the time, in fact they were a bit of a joke. I can only assume that the fuss being generated about these two games is some kind of fake nostalgia, for those who know no better, being generated by an exploitative Limited Run games, who have now become expert at exploiting gamers and hijacking the hobby with their wares. Such a shame. The real games that everyone loved at the time and appreciated were the likes of the very clever Space Station Silicon Valley, Paper Mario, Rocket Robot on Wheels etc. Not Turok, which quite frankly was generic and lame upon original release. Similarly, the Limited Run release of Shadows of the Empire is just another branded cash grab. That is hands down the worst Star Wars game on the N64, I really hope people actually play that game once it has been repro re-released and see this for themselves. Don't have fake nostalgia imposed on you. You will just end up purchasing a rubbish game, and a fake collectible that has a fake rarity. What a time we live in.
@Spoony_Tech the developers would have to program a 2 in one version in order for limited run to even print that suggestion
There isn't a limited run of standard editions. They tend to have an open pre-order period. Not sure if they announced collector's editions.
I’m stuck on the 1st one lol can’t find keys to unlock the last level😩
Got this remasters on PC but DEFO 100% going to pick up the physical versions for Switch
Is the cartridge black?
Yes Limited Run Games is based only in the U.S.A @sandman89. But they ship worldwide. And yes as far as i know this is the only way to get a physical copy of these games in the whole world.
@Silly_G Fair points. I guess I'm just a little impatient, especially as I've put money into it and still don't have the product, but seeing as LRG seems like a trustworthy company, I guess I don't have to worry. Sorry for my rant above.
@Silly_G
I agree a complete cart is best. My problem is how LRG handled the Celeste situation. Multiple people asked LRG whether the game would be delayed for the DLC during sale. LRG responded they absolutely would not delay the game due to the PJM2 fiasco. They had become known as a company of delays, and could not be that company any more. This was confirmed by Doug and Josh. Shortly after orders closed, they announced they may delay.
The developer stated early on the DLC would release soon. Months later, he announced the script was being started. More recently, he took a break to make Mario Maker levels instead and has been silent with the game’s progress. There has never been an estimated deadline given, though he just announced he is getting close, but that is what was stated earlier in the year. 7+ months later, still nothing.
During this time, LRG has been inconsistent. They went from Celeste would not be delayed, to they were attempting to get a timeline from the developer to see if delaying would be worth it, to it has been delayed and should come out shortly, to a blanket statement that they are waiting for the DLC and it will get here when it gets here.
It shows their lack of communication with the developers. There is no guarantee that the game won't need another patch after a delayed release. They pushed PJM2 back a year to get the full game on the cart, and it was released in a broken state. Power Rangers is an even more recent example of LRG putting a game up for sale with pending DLC, and it shows they haven’t learned their lesson even after getting burned multiple times. Celeste was likely the first LRG game purchase from many new customers who have never shopped with them before. I am not surprised that some would be hesitant to give them more money given the mess of the situation that LRG and the Celeste developer have created.
@Mark-number-12 I don't know about you but I actually played Turok 2 back in the day on my N64 and I loved it, with that said I am excited for this rerelease and will be buying it.
@Quarth : No need to apologise. I hope I didn't seem like I was lecturing you lol.
I just think that we ought to cut LRG some slack as it's impossible to please everybody, and their hands seem to be tied, especially when some of the games that they sell are still in production, and I appreciate their commitment to quality.
Perhaps LRG should be a little more upfront about the indefinite release window for a lot of games, but on the plus side, they actually do have a section on their website which provides updates on the production and shipping status of their games.
@Silly_G Thanks for being understanding and I agree with what you're saying. Hopefully Celeste will come soon. Good things comes to those who wait, or what's the expression?
@Quarth : That's right. But there's also another proverb that I quite like: Patience is a virtue.
@Silly_G Even better!
@Mark-number-12
I never played Turok 2 but I might as well have, as I subscribed to N64 Gamer magazine and the hype (before and after) was unreal. Cerebral bore! Expansion pak! Look at the resolutions! Look at the lighting! And they certainly must have done something right because it was followed up with two more sequels and continually touted as one of the must-haves.
So yes perhaps for you (who can speak from direct experience, I admit) these games are boring and unworthy. But they are a legitimate touchstone of the N64's library. It breaks my heart that they're the only N64 games on the switch, but that's an issue for Nintendo, Rare/Microsoft, and Midway to figure out. Turok is more than worthy.
@Lizuka I'm with you there. WWF Warzone was the bomb in my circle. Backflips from the top of the cage, smashing TVs over people's heads, commentary from Vince McMahon and JR... Not to mention The Rock from whe he was still a heel, Steve Austin, Undertaker, Kane, Owen Hart... All of my custom wrestlers were obese and unstoppable!
Issuing two separate physical releases is annoyingly redundant though as both games can fit on a single 1GB cartridge. This is just wasteful, especially for games of their age (and quality).
The same applied to Outlast as well, but they also sold that as a double pack with two separate cartridges, both in standard and deluxe packaging.
@DarkLloyd : I understand what you're saying, and that would be true if the games were consolidated into a single "shell" (the Namco Arcade Pac is one such example), but this is not necessary for Switch cartridges, as they can store multiple ROMs on a single cart, and there are a few available at retail, including the Ubisoft double pack with Child of Light, Hasbro Game Night (Monopoly/Trivial Pursuit Live/Risk), and Wheel of Fortune/Jeopardy.
I'm sure there are others, but they're not coming to mind at the moment.
Inserting such cartridges spawns individual icons for each game, and they are each treated as any other standalone Switch game would be treated, in terms of separate save data, patches etc.
Capcom could have done the same with the Mega Man collections, but... nope.
Annnnnd . . . pre-ordered TUROK: DINOSAUR HUNTER!
