Re: New Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Trailer Highlights The Gorgeous World Of Aionios

@Not_Soos Frontiers looks good, it’s just the design elements of Sonic, his new enemies, and the world clash too much atm. I think it could be mitigated by tweaking some lighting effects and color saturation. It doesn’t help SEGA’s case that while Xeno showed off multiple environments, even in their first trailer, while Frontiers only showed off the same island in the teaser and gameplay trailers

@Anti-Matter that’s fine - it’s just that adding more variables to an equation doesn’t make things more or or less fair, it just makes it an inconvenience for you.

Incidentally, I’m the opposite. I hate predictability in video games. I get the most joy from the moments I’m blindsided by a critical hit or a surprising story twist.

Re: Soapbox: Leaving The Comfort Zone - A Quest To Find My New Favourite Games

For me, I think Smash Bros franchise is what got me to branch out to other games and genres. Prior to Smash 4, my go-to franchises were Mario, Pokemon, Metroid, Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Sonic - so platformers, turn-based RPGs, and adventure games. Then, the DLC came around. Suddenly, I had an interest in Xenoblade, Final Fantasy 7, and Bayonetta. I ended up falling in love with Xenoblade 2 and Bayonetta 2 when the Switch came around. I was so enamored by Bayo 2 that the moment Astral Chain was released, I looked for where I could put in a pre-order. Hero got announced and I bought and adored DQ11S. Later, I finally got a PS4 for $70 and tried out FF7R and Persona 5 Royal. Thanks to Royal, I didn’t have to think twice about Strikers and the upcoming SMT V. From those games, I wanted Persona without the SMT and turned to visual novels. I played Danganronpa 2, V3, and then 13 Sentinels when I came out. I ended up making so many memories with these games.

Re: Some Trainers Are Worried About Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Returning To "Traditional" Catching Mechanics

Ramen756

I want PLA’s catching style to stay. I’ve been playing since gen 2 and I’m tired of the old way if catching Pokémon. I saw no joy from watching a ball jiggle 1-3 times after spending some time weakening Pokémon. There have been entire Pokémon games where I left most of the dex blank until the postgame and my playthrough party consisted solely of gift Pokémon because I just hated the old way of doing things. PLA was the only game I actually had fun catching Pokémon. If we go back, then the prof can ***** right off with their Pokédex - I’ll just catch what I want

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Has Been Rated In Australia

Ramen756

@Truegamer79 Depends on what you're looking for. IMO, Xenoblade 1 had a mature story and the environments are beautiful while Xenoblade 2 had more enjoyable character arcs and more satisfying gameplay (shame about the ***** tutorial though...). Both games I ended up taking long hiatuses from because the tutorials confused the crap out of me. However, I had the time of my life when I went back to them.

Re: Feature: Which New Hisuian Pokémon Are Viable For Competitive Play?

@DevinRex I can agree with us having different views - I think Rhyperior looks incredibly dumb with the extra horn and I’m neutral on Electivire overall.

While I agree that women have been over-sexualized in Japan, I disagree with your view on Enamorus being solely born from this view. Many fertility goddesses in antiquity have been based off of women and female anatomy that predates Japan’s mythology.

Also disagree on your assessment of Jynx. Jynx and her line is more a inspired “gyaru” culture and fashion rather than any fertility deity. Also their Pokédex entries allude more to femininity in general as opposed to fertility. There’s Smoochum’s fascination with kissing, but that could just be an allusion to the fact babies put stuff in their mouth than a comment on femininity. Plus, the dex implies this behavior doesn’t carry on in its evolved form - or at least it’s not a significant enough occurrence to comment on.

In response to your turtle comment: turtles in Chinese mythology are actually thought to improve sexual performance, more fitting for the fertility aspect. It’s form as a turtle also alludes to the black turtle, a creature in the same league as the other genies’ therian forms.

Re: Feature: Which New Hisuian Pokémon Are Viable For Competitive Play?

Ramen756

@DevinRex what’s difficult to understand is that you wanted something unique, but i see an evolution of an older pokemon just a slightly upgraded rehash of an existing one. So much for “unique” . Just as unique as another genie - and i don’t think it’s ugly. I think she and Landorus are clever metaphors for “fertility”. If you don’t understand that, feel free to look up “fertility” in a dictionary.

Alternatively, look up Chinese legends to see the inspiration of the Therian forms. A fourth member was going to come sooner or later.

Re: Talking Point: Great Game, Poor Performance - When Does A Bad Frame Rate Not Really Matter?

Ramen756

I typically don't have a problem with frame rate as long as it's stable. I think JRPGs can get away with not having consistent 60 FPS since a lot of the time you are just choosing cycling between options to choose from, but close to 30 is a must. I personally don't understand a lot of the hype for squeezing out as much FPS as possible because I tend to get motion sick when playing 60 FPS games. I just don't feel good when I'm viewing something that comes close to reality, but in reality I'm not moving at all -just sitting still. With lower frames, it gives my mind a chance to remind myself the games aren't real
