I played through the remake, enjoyed it.
Tried the original version as well now with NSO, it is kinda charming in its own right. But the remake is better, I believe.
@johnedwin Of course people could have bought several PS2's for their homes: one console per bedroom if one had more than one child. You have no evidence for your claims. Stop fanboying or trolling. It's kinda sad to see.
@WiltonRoots Takes you back to the good old days of that Irish troll, remember?
This game is lovely, but I'd wish for some permanent upgrades: to be able to change themes and music would be nice. The music just being on a constant loop with an awkward pause in between feels kinda cheap. I know it's a low budget game, but now that it has hit fame, some extra effort would be nice.
I also think it is annoying that the M in "my score" on the Rankings screen is not capitalized, lol.
Edit: Just noticed that it says "Daily Raning No. 1", not "Daily Ranking No. 1" on the Rankings screen. Seems the translation was rushed.
@Alexface Square Enix didn't send out review codes in advance, don't know why. Some speculate that they want to hide how cheaply made the game seems, but anyone who plays the demo will notice the bad performance and the low effort graphics anyway, so that theory seems weird. At least the game is fun, but they could've done more with it.
@VoidofLight I believe the Megami Tensei series, starting in 1987, are considered the first monster collecting games, but Dragon Quest V from 1992 is also an early example, predating Pokémon. Pokémon is what really popularized the genre though, probably because it got a world wide release and focused more on the collecting aspect than the RPG elements found in the other franchises mentioned.
@johnedwin I also have the collection on Switch and III is the only one I haven't played. Some people say it is one of the best games in the franchise, so I'm really looking forward to it.
@WiltonRoots Yeah, and nothing wrong with niche games really, I truly like some myself. But some people seem to think that everyone must agree with their taste or it is not valid, which is strange to me. Step out of the echo chamber, realise that opinions are diverse and enjoy what you enjoy.
@JohnnyMind Thanks! Yeah, there are always games that will satisfy one's taste. I recently played through the Star Ocean 2 remake and it was excellent! Now I'm playing the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC, Future Redeemed, which also seems great!
I really hope for a physical release here in the West. The game looks wonderful and I've skipped playing DQIII because I've been waiting for this version.
@JohnnyMind While I myself got burned out on the game after 40+ hours, I think it is a high quality game worthy of the praise it has gotten and it is a title that I will return to eventually (I loved BotW and played it the same way, with pauses in between). It is not a perfect game, but as you said: no game is.
But latley I've seen a trend of people hating on the game just because. I get that it is not for everyone, that it has some pacing issues and that some people want the old 3D Zelda formula back. Totally valid points. The game is not excluded from criticism. But a lot of the negativity I've seen is more in comparison to other games, especially now during the GOTY discussions, with it being called DLC and a carbon copy of BotW and that only blind Nintendo fanboys sees it as a masterpiece. I doubt a lot of those commenters have played the game at all, they just wants to put it down because it is in competition with their own favorite game for a stupid award. And of course there are TotK fans putting down the other games being nominated, to be fair.
As I said, the GOTY award (the Game Awards one, because it's the only one that matters apparently) is creating a toxic environment. It's just an industry award, by industry people, for industry people, presented during a show filled with ads and not a lot of substance.
My favorite game this year is Super Mario Wonder. Do I care if it wins some awards or not? No, because that doesn't impact my personal enjoyment of the game. Do I get that it is not for everyone? Yes, because taste is subjective.
Enjoy the games you enjoy. Criticise when you have valid points, but don't crap on other players taste just to validate your own.
@WiltonRoots Yeah, that might be the case: the hype machine bringing it up. But that's how it works with most big games.
It seems to be a good game, great even, but people seems to be very forgiving of its flaws, at least on Reddit downvoting every critical comment. But that is Reddit in a nutshell.
The demo didn't make me convinced this game is worth picking up at full price, mostly because of the performance. Granted, it was the demo, so hopefully the performance is better in the full game, but I've read different impressions about that. It is also strange that the reviews for this game are so late.
Regarding the GOTY award, I truly don't care. It doesn't make the game winning it any better or the games not winning it any worse. In the end, it is all about opinions, though some people seem to think their opinions are the only ones that are valid. Thus the GOTY award contributes to the increasing and unpleasant toxicity in the gaming community, with fanboys hurling insults at each other over which video game is the best and why other great titles therefore must suck. Sigh...
@WiltonRoots It's a very niche style of game, but this one has caught more mainstream attention, I believe. I haven't played it myself, but I really enjoyed the studio's previous game, Divinity Original Sin 2, which is on Switch, so I imagine that BG3 is equally as good. I've heard that the third act isn't as polished though and that there are a lot of bugs in the game. I also think that parts of its fanbase has gotten very toxic lately, saying no other game is as good at it, calling other games sh*t, etc. It's quite sad.
I don't understand why people care so much about the Game Awards anyway... It's just a silly awards show, the awards themselves doesn't mean anything really, it's just the industry patting itself on the back as usual. The great games being nominated/awarded are not better because of it and the great games not being nominated/awarded are not lesser experiences.
Throw in hundreds of ads, celebrity cringe and a usually overblown hype for some game trailers that one can watch afterwards, and you have the Game Awards, led by a man that probably cares more about the sponsors of the show than video games.
@TheGameCube86 So what? It can still be celebrated for what it achieved and what it meant to people back then. People are still talking about it 25 years later, that must mean something.
@TheGameCube86 Ocarina of Time is still a great game that just turned 25. It's not about being stuck in the past: it's about celebrating a milestone in gaming history by talking about memorable things from the game. I don't know why you'd call that depressing?
@Frailbay30 @Oracles_fanboi The many OoT articles right now has to do with the game, one of the most iconic and beloved of all time, recently turning 25. It's only logical that a Nintendo website would celebrate that.
I will not watch the show, but I'll probably check out the trailers that might interest me afterwards. Don't care for the Game Awards or the nominations. It just creates toxicity and fuels the fanboy wars.
One of my most anticipated games this year. I haven't had a chance to play the original, but from all I've seen and read about it, it seems like a game I will highly enjoy!
I've tried the demo during the weekend. Not sure if I will get the full game. It sure has that DQ charm, but not the polish from the main games. The performance is pretty bad for a game that is not very visually demanding (it looks kinda cheap in places). Now, gameplay is more important than graphics and it seems pretty fun in that department, but I'm not sure if the formula will hold up for a full game or if it will get repetitive after a while. So I'm undecided.
@Adol-Bannings It will get a physical release, but it will not be 120 fps, lol. It barely holds up at 30 or whatever it is.

@JohnnyMind @moonlessky
There's also a demo of the remake on the eshop, if one wants to try it out before a purchase.

Re: Switch On Track To Surpass PS2's Lifetime Sales In The US
@johnedwin "no one bought multiple ps2 consoles"
How do you know that? Sigh... Fanboys...
The PS2 is great, the Switch is great. Doesn't matter which one has sold the most.
Re: 'Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club' Launches On Switch Next Month
I'm happy about these news. Played through the remakes of the first two games earlier this year and really enjoyed them.
Re: Poll: What's Your Switch Game Of The Year Of 2024 So Far?

Re: Soapbox: During A Mental Health Crisis, It Wasn't Cosy Games That Helped
For me, it's JRPG's and puzzle games. Never been truly depressed, but struggle with generalized anxiety.
But remember, when feeling depressed, get professional help! Its the best thing you can do.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give 'Princess Peach: Showtime!'?
For me, it's a 7/10 so far. Not great, but still fun and charming.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is just what I needed. Great fun!
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March Of The Minis
No contest. The Western version is superior.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Mario vs. Donkey Kong For Switch?
Lovely game, played through world 1 and 2. Just what I needed at the moment.
Re: Best Ace Attorney Games Of All Time
Justice for All might be the weakest of the three games in the original trilogy, but it has my favorite AA case of all time, the last one.
Edit: I just realised I already wrote a comment about this case in this comment section over two years ago. Time flies.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown?
I will get it eventually, really liked the demo.
But Another Code releases this week, so that will be my priority right now.

They are harmless. As are the flowers. Don't understand why people get so annoyed over them.

Parasect is scary and creepy, being like a zombie controlled by the parasitic mushroom on its back.
