Hoopoo Games' excellent roguelite third-person shooter, Risk of Rain 2, recently received a free Anniversary Update on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and that same update is finally set to arrive on Nintendo Switch tomorrow (Tuesday 17th August).
According to the official Risk of Rain Twitter account, the update on Switch is the exact same content-wise as on other systems and as such will see a host of tweaks, changes and additions made to the game, including the return of Bandit, a character from the first Risk of Rain who's been rejigged to fit in better with this sequel.
Alongside the return of Bandit and the addition of a brand new boss to take on, the update notes also mention character and stage updates, new skill variants that allow players to sport three different skills, stackable items and a host of quality of life improvements including improved AI, new challenges, performance optimisations and more!
We dished out a very respectable 8/10 in our Risk of Rain 2 review, with Mitch calling it an "exceptionally well-designed take on the gameplay that made its predecessor popular."
Are you still playing Risk of Rain 2 and excited to grab the anniversary update when it lands tomorrow or have you yet to check this one out? Let us know in the comments!

Great game and I still haven't found the time to jump back into it since the game was completed. I'll have to find some time for it soon.
The update’s really very brilliant, it came to PC a while back. And yes, this game is like Returnal but better.
I'll buy this game eventually. I've come close to doing so a couple of times.
Every time I see the name, the song Purple Rain pops into my head and I sing the chorus 'Risk of Rain, Risk of Rain' . I fear this will start to annoy me if it continues after buying the game and seeing it on my home screen every day.
Ye lads - absolutely brilliant game
@OorWullie It Goes for hella cheap pretty often.
@OorWullie Same here. I've had an eye on it since it came out. I've literally had it in my hand, and haven't bought it. Not sure why, I've heard nothing but good things about it.
This game is incredible. 8/10 is an underrating, it was an easy GOTY for me last year (though that was on PC)
I've only played 1 but I love it. One day I'm sure I'll get this. Only thing that has prevented me so far is the lack of couch co-op.
I literally just started playing this game two weeks ago and love it. It is unlike anything else on Nintendo Switch.
Where's that one guy that was always complaining about risk of rain coverage? Here it is!
@Kilamanjaro He founded his own site that specializes in Risk of Rain 2 coverage. He will not risk one drop of rain not having proper coverage.
Really need to pick this game up sometime.
This is awesome news! This game is nuts. I purchased it on sale on a whim, going in blind I had no expectations! Such a unique experience , had absolutely no idea wtf I was doing at 1st but finally found a groove. It’s a great game that does not hold your hand , lots of content and a different twist on the genre
@OorWullie
It’s worth a purchase, especially on sale. There’s a lot of replay ability and as someone else mentioned there’s nothing else quite like it in switch. I still don’t know what I’m doing most of the time but it’s still a blast to play
It's pretty fun although I prefer the first one. Update will give me a reason to give it another go.
My bro and I have been playing this game lately because we were looking for a good 3rd person coop shooter on Switch, which the system is pretty lacking. The game is pretty fun to play when you get tons of buffs, almost feel overpowered at times but I still have yet to beat the game.
@Kilamanjaro
What a time to be alive
This game is awesome! I've tripled dipped on this one! Once on switch, twice on xbo. One for me, one for a friend. Get it!
I have the game, but haven't really gotten the hang of it yet. I think I made it near the end once, but was a few seconds too late to finish the run. Maybe because I don't play FPS games often, or I might just suck.
Also the text for the item descriptions is so tiny even on a big screen!
@OorWullie Hey, odd to post on this after several months, I know, but I was listening to the commentary on the soundtrack yesterday. There's a song called The Rain Formerly Known As Purple (an obvious nod to when Prince changed his name to The Artist Formerly Known As Prince to get out of a record deal) that borrows its melody from the guitar solo in Purple Rain. Thought you'd find that interesting.
@Bret That is interesting and kind of nuts at the same time. I bet one of the devs was doing the same as me and singing Risk of Rain to the tune of Purple Rain and that's it was added.
