Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

PaperMario64

I'm going to take this rumor with a grain of salt.

I see some of you are bringing up the Wii as an example for a underpowered console selling well. That was 10 years ago and it was something new and exciting. They tried the same with the Wii U and failed.

I don't think Nintendo will do well if they come with some other gimmick for the next home console. Sure, we can have Gamepads and Wiimotes sold separately for games that actually use the function. Let's face it, the Gamepad haven't been used to it's fullest extent and sometimes it feels you could play just fine with a Pro Controller.

If Nintendo want third parties to publish games for NX, they must make it easy to port games to the system. When the NX comes out the PS4 is likely 3-4 years old. If it can't even match the specs on that old hardware I don't see why anyone should buy the console when they already got the Wii U.

On the other hand if the console is a hybrid and will replace both 3DS and Wii U the specs will maybe be difficult to compare with the PS4 which is a homeconsole. I'm playing Wii U a lot more then 3DS, if Nintendo want me buy a new homeconsole/hybrid, it needs to be able to at least handle better graphics then the Wii U. A new gimmick will not be able to convince me to buy a new console. They need to make a console that is superior to the Wii U and is comparable with today's standards. If not I don't see why I should need to upgrade my gaming system.

Re: Reaction: There is a Positive Angle to Nintendo's Splatoon Global Testfire Issues

PaperMario64

@AyeHaley that is true in some cases when buying online. But if you preorder from a local gameshop you just pay 9$ for them to hold the game, then pay the rest when you pick it up.
In the end it is the same. You don't know if it's a good or bad game before you tried it. Pre orders are just a way to ensure you get the game day one. You don't give Nintendo money before they even start making the game (like kickstarter).

@mjc0961 That "logic" of yours makes no sense. Even if you wait untill the game is out, you don't know if it's good or not before you actually bought and played it. It makes no difference rather you pay a small fee in advance to get the game or full price the day it comes out.
Those who won't buy the game cus of connection issues on the demo probably never played much online games. It's a demo for cring out load.

@Geonjaha I was going to post a wall of text, but I will just keep it short and to the point:

Running a Youtube-channel is NOT the same as a regular job where you get paid by the hour. When you sign up for a Youtube account you do NOT get entitled to earn money from uploading videos, especially when you are violating copyright laws.

Nobody says people should not be able to make a living of gaming. In fact I think people SHOULD be able to make a living as a journalist/reviewer, professional or entertainer. But in some cases, like Youtube advertisement, they aren’t entitled to every cent. Also calling people idiots for not choosing the highest paid job is a stupid thing to say. Some people actually choose jobs for other reasons then just money. It’s a weird decision to choose playing video games as a job, if your biggest concern is to earn a lot of money. With that in mind, Youtube celebs are probably even more greedy then Nintendo.

People seem to forget that NCP is in the beta phase and is clearly a step in the right direction. You get like 60-70 % of the profit which probably is more then just ‘half’ of what you make from other videos. So it doesn’t really make much sense to put NCP in such a negative light, when all the complaining is mostly about «where is my 20 % add money».
I disagree with Nintendo on a lot of things. Like region-locking. But how much money Youtube-channels earn from having Nintendo content, is something I just don’t care about.

PaperMario64

Using SM64HD as an example was't the best way to criticis Nintendo on the Creators Program. If the NCP is stopping people from putting out a video where they make a good time on Mario Kart or having an awesome fight in SSB it sure needs change. Creating a rip-off wich can be downloaded for free is of course within censorship rights. But in my opinion it is a big difference in censoring and taking a small piece of add-cuts when you use their content.

Keep in mind the Nintendo Creator Program is a step in the right direction. Nintendo are really tring to meet us halfway here. But Youtubers demand FULL freedom to do whatever they want to do, and REFUSE to take what they get. Who are they do demand Nintendo to meet their requests?

I think this whole situation is blown way out of proporsions. I don't know who is more greedy, but I do know who calls the shots on this. I can also watch a lot of Nintendo content on youtube allready, if someone doesn't want to play Nintendo because it's not as profitable, I just watch another channel.

I don't think lifting the Youtube censorship will do much good in the sales of hardware. At least not this generation.
But I do think it will be good in the long term, so they will eventually have to give away more freedom in the future.
Nintendo is about making quality game experiences. They might not follow the times, their marketing choices are some times bizarre and they make ridiculous console concepts. But it's the games they make that keeps us here.

Nintendo isn't a mainstream game developer. I have always been the one person in my group of friends that would rather play Nintendo then Xbox/Playstation. Because I like how Nintendo is standing out of the crowd.

If Nintendo would come out with ridiculous slogans for a console as "This is 4 the Players" while having explosions of some some CoD game in the background, I would give up my days as a gamer.

Let's not get into what differs a review from a Let's Play video on Youtube.
It depends entirely on how to video represent itself.
If it's just some kid playing the game for a longer period of time while talking, it's not the same as a review. If you show short clips from the game while talking about different aspects without giving away the plot, game secrets etc. it can be compared to a review and should not be censored.

Youtube does not effect my game purchases whatsoever. I occasionally go there to watch trailers, not people playing the game. But of course that's just me and doesn't apply to everyone.

It's just as NintendoFan64 say. Nintendo is not in the wrong here.
My guess is that Nintendo will lift the censorship in the future, but there isn't much reason for it right now. People will buy their hardware and software regardless of what is flavor of the month on Youtube.

The Nintendo Creators Program does make it possible to upload videos on Youtube. The only ones that is complaining is those who wish to make money of their videos.

Why we should care about them is mind-boggling.
