Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

ObeliskDrakon

If it weren't for E3 2015 this would take the cake (for me) for worst Nintendo Direct.

The pacing was sluggish, the amount of filler announcements was staggering, and we got only three new in-house announcements. One of these is a game we already knew about (Fire Emblem), one of them is a game that we technically knew existed but weren't sure hadn't been canned (Pikmin 4), and one is a remaster of a Wii game (Kirby).

It is so obvious that Nintendo just has relatively nothing right now. They couldn't even scrape together enough footage for a June "E3 Time" Direct, and it's shocking that they felt they had enough for this one.

Even their big huge Zelda announcement was a minute-long segment consisting mostly of non-gameplay footage, a title reveal that means next to nothing, and a release date. Their big, long-awaited Pikmin 4 announcement consisted essentially of lacklustre footage and a single screenshot.

To say I was disappointed is, clearly, an understatement.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Start At 'The Beginning' Of Series Like Zelda Or Dragon Quest?

@Medic_Alert To throw two pennies in here, I will say that (of the four Kingdom Hearts titles I have played) the first one is easily my favourite. The complexity level is so much lower, the story is actually relatively easy to follow compared to the cluster of lore you need for following entries, and it's the one I had the most genuine unadulterated fun with. Also, with the Remix version, it's more accessible than ever.

I will say, to play devil's advocate, that it certainly is dated in certain aspects. That's true of basically any game older than, like, five years lol

Re: Talking Point: Do You Replay Games?

ObeliskDrakon

I've replayed the games that I played on Wii U that then came out on Switch, since the Wii U was a family console and I was able to get my own Switch since it came out. Similarly, I've replayed Wii and PS3 games after having played them on a family system before getting my own Wii and PS3.

Aside from those, there are certain comfort games that I've replayed multiple times. This includes Mario 64 and Galaxy, third- and fourth-generation Pokemon games, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, and Twilight Princess.

While the PAL cover is the best artistically, it honestly has very little to do with the game itself. ResE4 isn't really a creepy horror game like its predecessors, it's an action game. And I think the US version does that best, personally.

@ArcanityInc Thank you for the information, this game has been on my wishlist since I saw it in the Switch eShop thanks to it looking like a love letter to the PS2/GameCube era of gaming. Clearing up that it's 100% done has me chomping at the bit to grab it! Good job to you and your team.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

ObeliskDrakon

While I can understand apathy, I cannot for the life of me understand the people who are treating this like a good thing. You want less options? Maybe you don't personally want to own your games and are fine with being locked to a subscription, but there are others who want the option to buy them, too. Treating this like a brilliant move because you personally don't care is an extremely self-centred worldview.

Re: Review: Embers Of Mirrim (Switch eShop)

I tried the demo, and thought that they ended it far too late for me to still want the full game. The title splash was probably the best ending point, because at that moment I wanted to purchase the full experience. By the time I'd gotten to the end of the demo, I was frustrated beyond belief and just wanted it to end. That's not what you want your demo to do for potential customers.

Re: Feature: What We Expect From The Inevitable January 2018 Nintendo Direct

ObeliskDrakon

My brother and I were discussing this just last night and we think it's smartest to not expect much. We agreed that we'd be happy if just these three things were covered:
-Yoshi (Switch) official title and release date
-Kirby: Star Allies release date
-Mega Man Legacy Collection(s); whether or not it's a bundle or the two are going to be released separately, official title, and release date

And anything else? Gravy.

Re: Breath of the Wild Developers Discuss the Zelda Timeline

ObeliskDrakon

I get the feeling that, seeing as BotW is set 10,000 years after every other timeline, that the intention was for all the old games to truly become legends.
However, there are too many physical remnants left over from other Zelda games for me to be actually content with that idea.
SPOILERS:
If Ocarina of Time is a fable, how come you can go to the Lon Lon Ranch ruins? How come Urbosa says Ganon once was Ganondorf, taking the form of a Gerudo?
If Twilight Princess is a myth, how come you can go to the Arbiter's Grounds? How come Zelda specifically references the Twilight Realm?

I don't think it's too inconceivable that the Korok and Rito could have evolved in timelines other than the Adult Timeline, so people who naysay the idea of it being anywhere but there confuse me.
So, to me, the only Timeline that truly makes sense in terms of hints the game gives the player is the Child TImeline. But if it's decided somewhere down the line that BotW definitely, for sure, takes place in none of the timelines and instead 'converges' them, I can be content with that. But for now, I'll fight for it being set after Four Swords Adventures until my dying days!
