If it weren't for E3 2015 this would take the cake (for me) for worst Nintendo Direct.
The pacing was sluggish, the amount of filler announcements was staggering, and we got only three new in-house announcements. One of these is a game we already knew about (Fire Emblem), one of them is a game that we technically knew existed but weren't sure hadn't been canned (Pikmin 4), and one is a remaster of a Wii game (Kirby).
It is so obvious that Nintendo just has relatively nothing right now. They couldn't even scrape together enough footage for a June "E3 Time" Direct, and it's shocking that they felt they had enough for this one.
Even their big huge Zelda announcement was a minute-long segment consisting mostly of non-gameplay footage, a title reveal that means next to nothing, and a release date. Their big, long-awaited Pikmin 4 announcement consisted essentially of lacklustre footage and a single screenshot.
To say I was disappointed is, clearly, an understatement.
I was never that excited for this game but all of the whingeing online is absolutely exhausting. Can people stop caring so much and being so negative about every tiny thing?
@Medic_Alert To throw two pennies in here, I will say that (of the four Kingdom Hearts titles I have played) the first one is easily my favourite. The complexity level is so much lower, the story is actually relatively easy to follow compared to the cluster of lore you need for following entries, and it's the one I had the most genuine unadulterated fun with. Also, with the Remix version, it's more accessible than ever.
I will say, to play devil's advocate, that it certainly is dated in certain aspects. That's true of basically any game older than, like, five years lol
I've replayed the games that I played on Wii U that then came out on Switch, since the Wii U was a family console and I was able to get my own Switch since it came out. Similarly, I've replayed Wii and PS3 games after having played them on a family system before getting my own Wii and PS3.
Aside from those, there are certain comfort games that I've replayed multiple times. This includes Mario 64 and Galaxy, third- and fourth-generation Pokemon games, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, and Twilight Princess.
Working on backlog, if anything. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (so I can beat it before Origami King releases!), and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.
The main game I've been running through over the past couple days is Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix (PS3). I'm also playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons every day, and trying to get through Final Fantasy VII on Switch.
This is the first game I've been excited for and wholeheartedly enjoying in a very, very long time. It's such a blast of nostalgia to early DS/late GBA days! Glad to see that it's getting the support it requires after launch.
It's kind of crazy to me how many people here are on about people being too 'brand loyal'. It stinks of anti-exclusive mindsets to me, which would be an absolutely terrible thing for the industry. Not everything should be on every system! Exclusives need to be a thing, and wanting exclusives to stay where they released is not a bad thing.
I don't understand the vehement hatred people have for these things. If you like them, cool. If you don't, who cares? They're harmless and relatively inexpensive.
If I get any time this weekend, it'll probably be devoted to Diablo III: Eternal Edition, Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.
427 hours, 52 games. Most played games were Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, Dragon Quest XI S, LEGO Harry Potter Collection, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Pokémon Shield. That last one is really strange to me because I know for a fact I played a couple games more (Link's Awakening and Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist come to mind), but oh well!
@DarthFoxMcCloud Thing is, you can't bring any of your old Pokemon into SwSh. They'll just sit in Home indefinitely, since we have yet to even have a game announced that'll be compatible with Pokemon from Home.
It's interesting to me that people criticizing these games are actually able to point to all the very obvious flaws that they don't have to conjecture about: all of the evidence is out in the open. And yet, the people defending these games resort to an ad hominem in almost every comment I see here, with absolutely nothing to actually disprove the criticism.
XI S is preordered and should be arriving today. Other than that, I'd like to eventually get III as it's supposed to be the best of the classic trilogy.
Aside from Link's Awakening (which is occupying my brain every second I'm awake), I beat Spyro the Dragon on the Reignited Trilogy right before LA showed up at my doorstep. I'll probably also squeeze in some backlog stuff: Kirby Triple Deluxe, Mega Man 7 off of Legacy Collection 2, and maybe some Pokémon Gold Version.
My first hope would be a Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD Collection, followed closely by a remake of TLOZ (NES) in the same style or similar to the Link's Awakening one. I've been playing it like crazy since it arrived, and I adore it.
While the PAL cover is the best artistically, it honestly has very little to do with the game itself. ResE4 isn't really a creepy horror game like its predecessors, it's an action game. And I think the US version does that best, personally.
If I'm playing anything, it'll be backlog stuff (since I've already beaten Fire Emblem and Marvel UA3 from last month...). So that'll likely be Bayonetta 2, Toki Tori 3D, and Devil May Cry.
This is honestly the first Mario & Sonic game that I've been excited for since the initial two--it looks like the quality control has gone way up and they actually brainstormed some unique, new ideas for this one. Can't wait!
Aside from Smash Ultimate and Hollow Knight, which I chose above, I'll probably be trying to beat Sonic Mania Plus, Castlevania II on my NESClassic, and finishing Zelda OoT on my N64 for what feels like the tenth time.
LG Eevee is probably going to destroy any and all free time I have this weekend, I could maybe see picking up Super Mario Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion since I just bought those up on sale.
@ArcanityInc Thank you for the information, this game has been on my wishlist since I saw it in the Switch eShop thanks to it looking like a love letter to the PS2/GameCube era of gaming. Clearing up that it's 100% done has me chomping at the bit to grab it! Good job to you and your team.
While I can understand apathy, I cannot for the life of me understand the people who are treating this like a good thing. You want less options? Maybe you don't personally want to own your games and are fine with being locked to a subscription, but there are others who want the option to buy them, too. Treating this like a brilliant move because you personally don't care is an extremely self-centred worldview.
I tried the demo, and thought that they ended it far too late for me to still want the full game. The title splash was probably the best ending point, because at that moment I wanted to purchase the full experience. By the time I'd gotten to the end of the demo, I was frustrated beyond belief and just wanted it to end. That's not what you want your demo to do for potential customers.
My brother and I were discussing this just last night and we think it's smartest to not expect much. We agreed that we'd be happy if just these three things were covered: -Yoshi (Switch) official title and release date -Kirby: Star Allies release date -Mega Man Legacy Collection(s); whether or not it's a bundle or the two are going to be released separately, official title, and release date
I get the feeling that, seeing as BotW is set 10,000 years after every other timeline, that the intention was for all the old games to truly become legends. However, there are too many physical remnants left over from other Zelda games for me to be actually content with that idea. SPOILERS: If Ocarina of Time is a fable, how come you can go to the Lon Lon Ranch ruins? How come Urbosa says Ganon once was Ganondorf, taking the form of a Gerudo? If Twilight Princess is a myth, how come you can go to the Arbiter's Grounds? How come Zelda specifically references the Twilight Realm?
I don't think it's too inconceivable that the Korok and Rito could have evolved in timelines other than the Adult Timeline, so people who naysay the idea of it being anywhere but there confuse me. So, to me, the only Timeline that truly makes sense in terms of hints the game gives the player is the Child TImeline. But if it's decided somewhere down the line that BotW definitely, for sure, takes place in none of the timelines and instead 'converges' them, I can be content with that. But for now, I'll fight for it being set after Four Swords Adventures until my dying days!
