Re: New Fantasy Life i Update Lands On Switch 1 & 2, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Nuclearpineapple

Ooooh, looking forward to the camera changes and the alterations to the farmer life. I've been ignoring the main story a lot so I've only just got the farmer life and I understand the criticisms. The idea is good but planting stuff for yourself is a pain. The amount of times I've watered a square instead of planting is too many and it becomes a chore when you have multiple farms each with 9 squares you could have an action be incorrect.

Re: Random: The New Denpa Men Is Getting Roasted For Its Translation Issues

Nuclearpineapple

I for one am here for the janky translation. If I remember correctly, even in denpa men 2 and 3 (didn't play 1) the dwarves spoke in a slightly odd, literal translation manner so this text wasn't too out of place. Honestly noone is playing denpa men for the deep philosophical story so why not?

My own head cannon is that the real language being spoken in universe is so odd it can't be translated properly. In a similar vein to how a complicated nuanced social situation/concept may have a word associated to it in one language but it simply doesn't exist in another language, leading to a on-the-nose unnatural translation with no alternative.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Nintendo Remake Ever?

Nuclearpineapple

I'd say fire red/leaf green. Perfectly balanced mix of nostalgia and modern (at the time) features and extras and it came at a time where the originals were realistically too rough around the edges for widespread audiences.

I considered zero mission and the 64 Zelda remakes too but a couple of design changes weren't to my taste, namely the tacked on stealth bit in zero mission which I hated and various small changes to boss encounters in majora and general difficulty lowering of it felt like it was holding my hand a bit much. Still, regarding the ocarina/majora 3ds versions, it's hard to deny how much nicer inventory management was with a second screen.

Re: WTF: What Exactly Is This Switch eShop Garbage, Nintendo?

Nuclearpineapple

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to a new Nintendo console is hopefully a fresh start on an eshop not infested with titles not even pretending to be legitimate software/games and just hoping for accidental purchases.

As someone else has mentioned it's a real chore trying to scroll through tripe trying to find an actual game in the sales. Thankfully Dekudeals makes that easier.

Re: Nintendo Is Launching An 18+ N64 Switch Online App In Japan

Nuclearpineapple

I feel like this bodes well for the likes of perfect dark and conker. Parental controls are a lot easier if any higher rated games are scooped up in their own app.

I also had no idea guns were such a controlled subject matter in Japan. Perhaps that's why lasers or swords are used as weapons more often in Japanese games?

Re: Review: Vampire Survivors - Kiss Healthy Sleep Goodbye With This Must-Play Roguelike

Nuclearpineapple

I played it on my phone on a whim to test out my backbone controller and was so impressed by the free base game alone I pre-ordered the switch version with dlc. I also appreciated that the price point is basically the same as pc as switch tax does irk me sometimes.

The thing vampire survivors really nails is a compelling metaprogression that I really wasn't expecting. Even if and when you exhaust the unlock list and secrets list, each character has their own completion list for each stage and the hard cap on how long a run can last stops overpowered runs becoming boring.

Re: Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes 'Shez' And 'Arval' Official Artwork Released

Nuclearpineapple

@Axecon

It looks to me to be a parellel universe type thing. So IN THEORY, you shouldn't need to play 3 house to understand the plot. Mousou games are usually designed with the ability to have a self contained plot, though you'd probably get a kick out seeing where differences arise in the plot due to the change of protagonist had you played 3 houses.

The turning point for this game appears to be outcome of a standard mission the previous game's protagonist, Byleth (nicknamed the ashen demon for their terrifying unnatural stoicism in battle). If things had proceeded normally, Shez should have died in the fight and Byleth should have gone on to have the chance encounter which led them to become the teacher of the academy of students.

This time, a previously unknown being is involved and likely saved Shez. And Shez is the one who has the chance encounter and appears to be mentoring these students instead, albeit in a more mercenary style vs Byleth's acedemic style. The goal this time appears to be taking down Byleth. Whether the new protagonist is ultimately good, bad or being manipulated by the mysterious being remains to be seen but there are a lot of spoiler-y plot reasons as to why many groups or powerful beings might want to take down Byleth, the least spoiler-y reason being Byleth has their own magical being in them.

Re: Backlog Club: Week Zero - Hello, And Welcome To Backlog Club

Nuclearpineapple

Switch is my one platform I am dedicated to having zero/minimum backlog. I got a few games for Christmas but then got sidetracked playing and catching up to Genshin impact after I moved house in January and all my new housemates played it.

Now I am up to date on Genshin, it now takes very little of my time and I was able to jump back to playing the Christmas games. In the last few weeks, I've finished Kyle is famous, piffle, Luna's fishing garden and beast breaker. Next up is Kharons crypt, then void terrarium, then dungeon encounters, then finally Luigi's mansion 3. After that, I'll be in the market for a new switch game.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack

Nuclearpineapple

I'll be grabbing it. I fully understand and respect the majority's issues with the price jump but for me at least it's still worth it. I have a family membership and switch one of very few subscriptions I have. Hell, Spotify duo works out £150 ish a year which dwarfs the price of switch online and expansion in comparison. And the expansion includes the new animal crossing DLC which I would've bought separately otherwise. It's intriguing inclusion leads me to believe that other first party DLCs might be included in the expansion pack in the future which would be nice.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 8th)

Nuclearpineapple

I'm on the final stretch of my switch backlog. I had a similar epiphany to @The_New_Butler in that as long as I feel I have played a game sufficiently to say I've really played it, it's fine to not 100% it or finish the story if it's not my thing and it can leave the backlog list.

That said, I've just finished Legrand Legacy and will now be dual wielding Tangledeep and Risk of Rain 2. I've already got ROR2 on steam and played it to death but it was on sale while I had some credit on the eshop and couldn't resist.

Once those two are sufficiently played, I can say I have no switch backlog and return the Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity which I haven't played since I reached the end of the demo and carried the data across.

Re: This Newly Discovered POW Block Bug Freezes Paper Mario: The Origami King

Nuclearpineapple

Looks like we're experiencing a side effect of COVID-19. I suspect it's impacted Nintendo's ability to get playtesters to look for bugs and thus the end user has become the playtester. With millions of people playing the game there's bound to be previously unknown bugs found. Thankfully Nintendo have been fairly rapid in sorting out the bugs so I'm not too worried about coming across any.

Re: Alienware Reveals Switch-Like Device Capable Of Playing PC Games

Nuclearpineapple

This is the kind of thing I've always wanted. Proper pc like hardware (there is definitely some differences between windows tablet and windows pc but I'm not educated enough to really know what beyond lower specs) in a portable format. Theres a lot of games that will never see the light on consoles, be it profitably reasons or copyright issues etc. And emulators for old games in general run best on android and windows where the most work is done on them.

I love my pc but a solid feeling horizontal portable with no wobble from hinges etc is my preferred medium closely followed by consoles on TV where I can just lounge around-but obviously lacks the portability factor. If this thing had the right specs and storage capacity/expandable storage this could have potential to become a go-to (very premium) emulation game console for those who are super dedicated to the medium.

That being said, given what it is, youd probably be better off investing in a general tablet that runs windows or android and using a bluetooth controller for that specific purpose because this sure as hell wont have an accessible price. I'm guessing £1000+.

In short, adore the idea of handheld pc without the need for streaming but I'll never get one.

Re: Psyonix Removes Loot Crates From Rocket League, But Not Everyone Is Happy

Nuclearpineapple

@Wilforce
I'm glad that I'm not alone in my thoughts on this update; even if I did go into a hefty rant about it.

Something about the complaints just doesn't sit right with me. All of these things are cosmetics. They literally have no impact on the game or your ability to play well. The one thing that is different- the hit boxes of cars- also got negated by making it so everyone effectively has the GOTY edition. Everyone has access to all the hit box "types" and even then most people just opt for the octane (I recently went from paladin to animus gp myself and I love it).

What this now boils down to is fashion. People what the pretty things to be cool and are somehow suprised and angry that being fashionable costs money.

Re: Psyonix Removes Loot Crates From Rocket League, But Not Everyone Is Happy

Nuclearpineapple

Yeah, no. This system is vastly superior to the loot box system. The quoted user is using an unfair comparison to make the changes appear worse because they don't like the change. Yes, buying 23 keys would get 23 items. But this is 23 RANDOM items from a small pool of items limited by which crate you're opening. In addition, items of rare quality have over a 50% chance of being dropped vs roughly 1% for a black market quality item, meaning from those 23 crates you'd likely end up with a huge stockpile of said small pool of rare items on your way to get the item you probably opened the crate in hopes of getting. The 23 keys worth or 2300 credits would be buying a guaranteed black market item. Youd have full knowledge of what it is and if it is painted/certified. When statistically youd have to open 100+ crates to get a black market (and have no control of which one and if it was painted/certified) you're cutting out the predatory middleman by using 23 keys worth to just outright buy the item you want.

The quoted user deliberately misrepresented the new credits system. A rare blueprint takes 100 credits to build and goes up appropriately through the rarities until you reach 2000 to build a black market item. People are underestimating the advantages of knowing exactly what they're getting. Blueprints drop for everyone, so now for the first time players who have never spent any money may be able to get blueprints for those fancy pretty items when previously the trade up mechanic only reached exotic rarity. Blueprints are easy to trade for credits so you can save up to build blueprints you love the look of-you even get a preview screen so you know exactly how itll look on your car.

I haven't spent any money on rocket league since the one time I bought keys to get the first rocket pass. And if you go all along that track you get enough keys/credits to go again on the next rocket pass. The reality of this blueprint update is that it's great for low/zero spenders like myself and not so great for high rollers who only deal in black markets/high value items. It will likely be the later who will be most vocal about any disdain they have for the new system.

Re: Mario Kart Tour's Diddy Kong Pack Costs £39, The Same Price As Mario Kart 8 Deluxe On Switch

Nuclearpineapple

Yeah....Nintendo seem to be pretty clueless when it comes to microtransaction prices. Not that I ever intend to buy anything for this game. I'm keeping in mind when my 2 week gold pass trial ends so I can cancel it when I've got all I can from it.

The smallest amount of rubies you can buy is 3 for 1.99 which wont even get you a pipe thing which surely would be the main attraction for microtransactions. The main purpose of the microtransaction model is to make it cheap enough that plenty of people will go "oh go on then, that's not expensive and I want another go". Had the smallest unit been 5 rubies for 0.99 i suspect itd work out better for gross income.

But that's ignoring that the microtransaction model is inherently predatory and shouldn't be so widely used as it is, much like the random loot box model. I may be fairly resistant to these models but there are a lot of people who dont realise how much they're spending, even if it is their own choice using their own money.

Re: Nintendo Files Lawsuit Against ROM Website Offering Nearly 300,000 Switch Downloads

Nuclearpineapple

I must admit I have a fairly extensive ROM collection myself though I definitely have my rules for this. Anything that comes from current or last gen is totally off the shelf as I can still fairly easily buy it and the companies that made them still stand to gain some of the money (so no xbox 360, Xbone, ps3, ps4, psvita, Wiiu, 3ds or switch games). Any console that's pushing 2 decades old or more? No one's getting hurt by that and chances are I have a real copy of it. Hell, somehow I have 3 Mario 64 cartridges.

ROMs as far as I'm concerned are a great way of preserving and sharing games that otherwise would have faded and been forgotten to history. It allows modding and translation patches by people truly passionate about the game. I've gotten to play the original rhythm paradise and sequel to kuru kuru kuruin on GBA and the chibi robo sequel on ds lovingly translated into English because of roms. And theres a ton of fan mods/rom hacks for well established games that put a whole new spin on things- there's a rom hack that mashes super metroid and link to the past together, blending and shuffling all item drops across both games. You need to bounce between the two games and search for the items you need to progress.

TLDR- switch and other current and last gen roms bad, super old game roms original creators wont see money for anymore are whatever.

Re: Roguelike Action Platformer Risk Of Rain Launches On Switch Out Of The Blue

Nuclearpineapple

Chessboardman if its anything like the steam version then yes theres local coop. It takes the spelunky approach to cameras I believe in that the camera is focused on player one. Its also worth noting in the steam version you could control how zoomed out the camera is. Honestly, the game can get pretty tricky sometimes and it scales in difficulty for the number of players so you would never want to split up anyway.
