Before Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish-based company CD Projekt Red was busy with The Witcher, which originally started out as a series of fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The video game adaptation peaked at The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015, and is considered to be not only one of the standout games of the past generation but also one of the greatest games of all time.
This week marks the third entry's sixth anniversary - with CDPR taking this opportunity to remind everyone on social media.
Although Witcher 3 didn't arrive on on the Switch until later on in 2019, this part of its history is arguably just as important.
Prior to the official confirmation, a Switch release was thought to be impossible to port - and well, Saber Interactive managed to work wonders and make it a reality, bringing across the entire game (including both expansions and all of the DLC) to the system. It even followed this up with a number of performance updates.
The second game also celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this week. Can we have this now as well, CD Projekt Red?
Have you played The Witcher 3 yet? What are your own memories of Geralt's epic action role-playing game? How about the second game? Leave a comment down below.

I only played it last year but I'm really glad I got the chance to play it portable! It's such a fantastic game! I've still gotta finish up the DLC for it!
I should probably get around to actually playing this at some point. It's been sitting in my collection pretty much since it launched on Switch.
I find it very cursed that a nintendo site can now talk about Witcher 3 related stuff
Great game, need to get back into it.
Will we get an article about the 7th anniversary next year? Kinda expect a yearly update now, Liam.
@Doofenshmirtz What's more cursed is that The Witcher is a plagiarized work. Basically stole nearly everything from the Elric stories.
That's not CD Projekt Red's fault though.
@Vortexeo
Basically the same story, though I finished up Hearts of Stone two weeks ago. Only have Blood and Wine left but going to wait a few weeks to start that one. I intend to burn some games of my backlog first like Shantae, AER and Raji since The Witcher can be so time-consuming.
can't be it. just came out recently on the Switch.
This is my fav game on the ps4 bar none, I love this game. And I just started another play through to! It's just so good 👍❤️👌
I am happy that games are beginning to feel way more timeless than before with all the remasters and ports. Soon it hopefully will be the same as with movies and books.
Same value no matter the age.
Kids, life lesson here for ya:
The older you get, the faster time passes.
Too bad witcher 4 won't be on switch. You'll have to wait for switch 2 for that. We were lucky they even got this one running on the thing.
I absolutely adore this game. Since I played it on switch it went directly to number one of all time in my book. And got me to play the other two entries too.
The story telling is by far the best ever.
I actually started replaying this this past week. I’m going through on death march difficulty this time. It’s a tremendous story I had to relive. Geralt reminds me of a mid evil solid snake.
Weirdly it actually feels way older than that to me.
How the mighty have fallen...
@Zeldafan79 After Cyberpunk I'm not even looking forward to a potential TW4 which is a shame cause TW3 was the best game of the last decade imo
It's great WRPG games. I prefer The Witcher 3 than Skyrim
TW3, still my favorite game of the PS4/Xbone/Switch era of platforms.
Just recently finished Witcher 3 on PS4. I’ve never been a fan of Western RPGs, but the great quest design and engaging characters got me through until I felt comfortable with the systems and jank. It’s was a breakthrough game for me for the genre. I’ve since gone through Greedfall and, am currently 60 hours into Divinity: Original Sin, and have a nice wishlist of all the WRPG/CRPG games I’ve ignored.
Highly recommend to people as a first Western RPG if they want to broaden their horizons. I also wish I bought on Switch/PC which supports cross-saves over the PS4 version I nabbed on a sale.
I didn't play this until Switch and it was exactly what I was looking for. Probably in my top 5 all time.
@TYRANACLES Does the difficulty scale better in death march? Witcher 3’s greatest flaw to me is how quickly you become over leveled.
I only finished my first play thru with both DLC a month ago. Solid 130hours and I barely scratched the surface.
@Joriss I signed up just to like this. Kids, show love and kindness to humanity and to the Earth. Time is the most valuable asset you'll own, invest it to make this place better for generations to come, be humble.
Still costs an arm and a leg on Switch for whatever reason.
Yes I can belive it. But I'm more interested in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Senran Kagura later this year.
I've had The Witcher 3 in my backlog since forever on PS4. I've always figured it's so big that I kinda get daunted by it and keep putting it off in lieu of trying to get through other games smh. Not sure if or when I'll get to it, but I still want to at some point! I watched and enjoyed the Netflix show in the meantime lol.
@Spiders @Spiders sorry for the late reply but just now seeing this. Death March really doesn’t feel that much different from the other difficulties to me. I always thought the Witcher was a bit difficult and you had to dodge and replenish your health a lot, so it’s not a breeze for me but the story and atmosphere of it all is really what I love.
