Re: Nintendo "Laughed Their Asses Off" At Microsoft's Buyout Offer

There's an interesting tidbit from the article on Why Bill Gates decided to make the Xbox: It's because of Sony.

BACH: We’re not getting anywhere. So at some point during the meeting, I said to Steve Ballmer, “We’re not going to convince each other. So let’s just decide not to do this. If you guys are that concerned about it, let’s just stop.” And of course, that led to like another hour of angst about, “Well, Sony has got PlayStation 2 in the living room. They’re calling it a computer. What are we going to do about that?”

FRIES: One of the vice presidents who had been quiet the whole time asks this question, “What about Sony?” So that basically stopped the room, and the way I remember it is, it got quiet for a second, and then Bill got that kind of funny look he gets when he’s thinking and said, “What about Sony?” And he turns to Ballmer, and Ballmer said, “What about Sony?”

@BROJANGSTER While I enjoy Nintendo games I don't even own any Nintendo consoles. I played all the games on Yuzu, Cemu, Dolphin and Citra. My point of view is not that of a fan, but someone looking from the outside. I troll the fans here when they are blindly adoring Nintendo, as the opposition party tends to do.

We are living in the Age of Remastered, we got so used to the idea of re-buying games that it becomes a norm. Not only do we not complaint, but we expects them - we expects remastered like we expects the sun to rise the next day.

That's how easy it is to condition people - first they resist, then they became indifferent, next they expects them as a part of life.

“...The warehouse where the Radar Scopes had been gathering dust was run by Don James, whose wife was named Polly. As a way of thanking the warehouse manager, who received a lot of heat from the landlord over Nintendo’s uncollected rent, they decided to rename “Lady” after his wife. Lady became Pauline, close enough to Polly.
Around this time, the Tukwila warehouse’s owner showed up in person to angrily remind Arakawa about the rent. As the legend goes, the owner, Mario Segale, interrupted a conversation over what to call Jumpman. Segale said his piece, and he grew so incensed he almost jumped up and down himself. After the landlord left, eviction threat delivered, someone suggested the name Mario. It was a joke, since both men had mustaches. But everyone liked the name."

Re: Nvidia Is Purchasing Chip Designer Arm, And That Could Be Very Good News For Nintendo

@Yorumi Apple use Rosetta 2 to run old Intel apps. The original Rosetta was used to run PowerPC apps when they switched to Intel in 2006.

Devs had tested Rosetta 2 and said it runs emulated x86 apps faster than MS Surface Pro X running native ARM apps - and that's with the old A12Z chip used in iPad Pro. With the new A14 chip, people won't even noticed the difference between emulated and native. MS will create something similar, if they are going for a full migration to ARM. It's going to happen sooner or later, with Nvidia's ARM chip surpassing Intel chip's performance in the future. When people see the Macbook Pro having a 20hrs battery, they will demand it and PC maker will use Nvidia's ARM chip, and MS will make a greater commitment to ARM.
