Re: Soapbox: Don't Cheer For Corporate Takeovers - It's Not A Game

NintendoJunkie

Some folks are getting a little too doom and gloom over this. Honestly employees leave companies all the time after acquisitions like this and make other companies. It will be okay. Microsoft is pretty chill when working with other big 3. Sony not as much. Ironically, Nintendo is a locked box covered in cement.

Most of these acquisitions make sense on paper from a demographic standpoint. I will continue to buy the small indie games that speak to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Could NFTs Mean For Gaming, And Why Are They So Divisive?

NintendoJunkie

As an artist in the games industry, I see them as a net neutral. Just like Free To Play, it is another monetary vehicle. Some people will hate some will find value. It is another form of the auction house in World of War craft. Players could use NFT's to sell a character or item that they have invested "x" amount of time into and actually get realworld money out of it. This will not speak to everyone. There will be abuses, and there will be winners. Overall, it is just another means to do transactions. Another example: imagine you purchased a bunch of cosmetics for a game that you loved, but just will never play again. You could potentially sell that digital content for money, like you would a physical copy.

Some people still hate Free to Play. Some only get free to play on their phone. I imagine NFTs, as they mature and figure out their stride, will have similar division in the future.

Re: Kirby And The Forgotten Land Scores March Release Date, New Trailer Appears

@anoyonmus Roger that. What I am saying as a developer in a the games industry for 20+ years, is that a producer that owns a brand and is contracting it out has total control of design, programming, marketing and art direction of their games. Pokémon Company just doesn't care enough to push harder. They know they have the biggest ip the world, and that folks will buy it regardless of the details.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Run And Gun Games

I feel like Cuphead is actually a half hour long game that the devs padded with friggin' hard gameplay to bloat it out. I need to give it another try but I don't feel like hating it any more. It is a remarkable achievement in art undoubtedly.

Re: Talking Point: Should The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Library Expand Faster?

@Zenszulu Couldn't agree more. I stopped my subscription because I finally realized that I did't even play the NSO in its previous incarnation. The service really isn't competitive with other on the market. I think PS Now is phenomenal, maybe even too much so. I have a hard time justifying buying anything outside of it. I am not sure folks with an NSO subscription see that with every month that drips by, the cost of their subscription actually goes up with NSO. A person could wait two years and reap equal rewards to someone who waited and paid for a lackluster service in the meantime. Part of the value of services like Netflix and PS Now is also the cycling of content.

Re: Poll: What's The Worst Legend Of Zelda Game?

NintendoJunkie

Battle of Olympus is heavily inspired by Zelda 2, and superior in every way, it is also a contemporary of 2. Those that love Zelda 2 should try Battle of Olympus out, it's great.

I love the strong opinions here, it's like fighting the worst flavor of ice cream. Good luck getting closure.

Re: Talking Point: The Metroid Dread Credits Debate Is Sadly Common

NintendoJunkie

@BloodNinja Roger that FWIW I'm all about folks getting credit for their work. I just can speak from personal experience that I've never sat through credits except for Marvel (and that wasn't to read off a litany of names). The best credits I've ever experienced were on a Super Monkey Ball game where I bowled over all the devs names.

Re: Talking Point: The Metroid Dread Credits Debate Is Sadly Common

I've been in the industry for a looong time now. It's funny to me that Mercury Steam has such a dumb policy. I also agree that credits are stupid too. I can tell you first hand after being involved with many many hires that NO ONE ever backchecks credits. It just isn't a thing. And for all of you crying for unions in the game industry, you'll are nuts. The game industry is so transient, it wouldn't accomplish what you are wanting, it would just line the pockets of some union leader that does nothing, make game creation way more expensive, and potentially strangle indies.

Re: First Impressions: For Better Or Worse, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Look Like Extremely Safe Remakes

NintendoJunkie

This is nowhere near the level of Link's Awakening's polish. That said, I am not offended by the visuals here. The only glaring issue is that they actually seem pretty inconsistent. The desert area looks pretty great, on the other hand, the mines and town are pretty phoned in. That is not to say they won't polish it more, but there are ways to keep the collison, layout and tone without copying one for one the mesh/sprite layout. My guess is that they have a mixed bag of talent levels of their environment artists.

Re: Arc System Works Reveals Its Debut Trailer For River City Girls 2

I want to love this so much, because I love beat em ups. However, everytime I try to play these types of BEU, Scott Pilgrim was similar, the enemies are such damage sponges. They feel so slow and grindy. SOR4 is waaay more my pace. It is a shame, because this game is gorgeous and has such a high sheen of grind. I need to go and try the first one, one more time...

Re: Konami Competition Tasks Indie Devs With Reviving Its Classic IP

NintendoJunkie

If Konami pulls this off and gets a great game(s) out of this, they are getting the deal of a century. Asking a dev to make a game for 18K, is dirt cheap. I hope the devs can do it without great personal cost. Even a tiny indie game takes tremendous time and effort. Are they asking for a demo, I'm not clear on this? It looks like the competition ends with further development and polish. Konami could afford to have 10-20 "winners" at that cost, even with extra money they are planning to put in afterwards. In the end, maybe the consumer wins??? Maybe there is profit sharing with the devs?

Re: "Dreams Come True": Chris Pratt Talks About His New Role As Super Mario

NintendoJunkie

My only issue with any of this is that it feels like they went for star power (no pun intended) and not what the characters should sound like. Everyone can clutch pearls, or go to bat for Chris Pratt. Personally, I love him. I am just not sure his voice is going to work unless he pulls a Bradley Cooper (his Rocket was awesome, and didn't sound like him at all).
