Re: Hands On: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - The Ultimate 'Retro Throwback'?

It's super smart of them to tap into the point at which Turtle Mania was at its peak, and would garner the most good will. After all, that is really all the fans ever wanted. Sonic is a similar lesson. I really hope this is fun. I am looking forward to it. The original was stiff and shallow, it great to hear that they took those designs to the mat, and tried to improve. Honestly, I'm looking forward to this over the collection.

Re: Random: WWE's Stone Cold Steve Austin Says Breath Of The Wild Is The Best Zelda Game

I find it curious that so many castigate BOTW as not even Zelda? For me it is the most OG Zelda to date. It fits the closest to the original two which I played a ton as a kid. I've played the series since its inception and it is the first one in a long time to capture the magic of "what is over next hill." It is what the series desperately needed after getting stale and becoming more of a linear Metroid. From a game design perspective, it is a masterclass on so many levels, one self explanatory mechanic on top of another and they all blend together seamlessly. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of flavors, but some have said it is a game for people who have never played Zelda. I couldn't disagree more.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online - Every NES, SNES, N64 And Sega Genesis Game Available

@GamingDude800 this is the fundamental problem that Nintendo refuses to accept. People who have already purchased their games 100 times over already have better emulation paths to play their games. To catch up with the times Nintendo needs a Gamepass or PS Now model that have a wealth of modern offerings in a justifiably pricier subscription model. They need to push for more exclusives, and partner with Indies. The current path still ignores that 3rd party emulation is still a more viable and robust solution.

Re: Feature: Which Is The Absolute Best Nintendo Console Generation?

NintendoJunkie

Been around since the beginning, and I have to say Switch. It has every game I could ever want, and they are all portable (minus Wind Waker and Street Fighter 4).

Outside of Nintendo, the Wii DS Era was pretty magical for me for all the consoles at that time. Everything now is technical amazing but saturated and fleeting.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Start At 'The Beginning' Of Series Like Zelda Or Dragon Quest?

NintendoJunkie

I just played Zelda 1 this last weekend and enjoyed it a ton. I wouldn't recommend it to today's gamers, it's a little obtuse. It carries immense nostalgic value for me and BOTW feels like the closest game to it, which is why I love BOTW. ALTTP is a softer pill to swallow in retrospect for starters but Link between Worlds might even be better.

Metroid Zero mission has rendered the original obsolete in every way.

Re: 'Samurai Bringer' Slices Its Way To Switch In April

The half commitment to toon render with the nearest neighbor de-res is putting me off. It would have looked ten times better if they just went with two/three fall off steps for the lighting instead of a linear fall off. It would have looked like a straightup 3D pixel game. It is soooo close. What is weird is that they using dithered shading in some spots and full blown lighting in others.

Re: Random: New Disney Pixar Movie 'Turning Red' Makes For The Perfect Super Mario Mashup

@Purgatorium I know what I'm about to say is pretty subjective but, anecdotally, I was watching Pete's Dragon (not the remake) the other night with my family and it was just fun. It was a clever story. It didn't feel like a deep interpersonal conflict or specific social commentary. Movies or stories like Aladdin or Big Hero Six, where there are many themes, but for the most part are open to interpretation, don't seem to be coming from Disney as much any more. Disney/Pixar films as of late seem a lot more focused. I think that is fine for some folks. Personally I miss the older, story for story sake. I'm not saying what I like is missing from movies now, it just seems Disney specifically has stepped away from that a little.
