One of the bigger announcements during yesterday's Nintendo Direct, and easily one of the brightest moments of the show in the minds of plenty of the Nintendo Life team, was the reveal of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
A brand new Kirby game headed to Switch next year, this new release will see our favourite pink puffball head out on a 3D adventure for the very first time. The game's debut trailer had us wanting more, and we can't wait to see how it turns out when it launches in the spring.
Until then, though, Nintendo has shared a new (and very adorable) piece of artwork showing Kirby surrounded by a number of cutesy creatures that inhabit the mysterious world he must explore.
Oh, and just in case you hadn't seen much of the game yet, here are some official screenshots for your viewing pleasure.
Looks good, doesn't it? How can you say no to that cute little face?

It does look cute, but i wonder what kind of place that being abandoned.
Looks like an abandoned city in Japan.
I honestly still don't know how I feel about the post apocalypse trope in a Kirby game. As my favorite franchise, I am excited to see a full 3D Kirby game, but man that new aesthetic is jarring.
This game... is everything. I have been waiting my whole life for a fully-fledged 3D Kirby game. I could not be more excited!
Since Kirby 64, it has been established earth was abandoned or destroyed in Kirby's universe, its interesting we're finally gonna explore that story, and the gameplay looks great too. Quite excited for a Kirby game in a loooong time.
There have been post apocalyptic settings in Kirby before, if people remember Shiver Star from Kirby 64 (which resembled Earth), and in Planet Robobot, we learned the Haltmann Company has drained all resources from and left many planets for dead already. Excited to possibly see more background on this concept. Wonder if it actually was Haltmann who destroyed the Earth and left all those machines or if we'll get another explanation.
Most hyped game for next year, honestly. This and Elden Ring.
I just wonder how long its going to be before we get NeiR Automata joke edits for the trailer. That was the first thing that came to my mind when it leaked, and the footage shown didn't help things.
I am glad to see a new way to play Kirby. I've avoided the recent outings as I am just tired of the same game over and over but this looks like a fresh idea and looks beautiful. And yes before anyone comments, I feel the same about a great number of franchises including Mario. Until Odyssey I was very tired of the same 2D games we were getting. BOTW being the same as a refreshing take on the franchise that brought me back in.
I enjoyed star allies (just finished it last weekend actually) so I am excited for more Kirby.
@Paraka
A lot of Kirby lore might be much more sinister than you think.
There’s a planet that’s literally just a frozen earth. It’s pretty metal ngl
I’m wondering what all those waddle dees are doing here if this planet has been abandoned for so long…
Is Hal getting outside help for this because Star Allies was anemic and that was a 2D Kirby something they had nailed down formula wise, I guess it helps that thoughtful platfoming is practically nonexistent in Kirby so you can just have him running through a bunch of empty corridors and hallways and it would be a faithful transition to 3D so maybe the scope will be a bit above Bowser’s Fury.
Kirby later killed everyone in that photo. If you want Kirby to stop these terrible crimes, visit www,StopKirbysGenocide, com.
I'm pumped for this game. Fingers crossed it has some tooth to it.
Great for Kirby! Looks awesome. But this also makes me want a Yoshi 3D platformer that much more. He controlled super wonderfully in the 3D Mario appearances, particularly the latest one, and I'd love to have a full Yoshi game like that.
Still, this game looks great and I'm probably going to get it!
Once the trailer gets going, the gameplay looks close to a Mario game. Whether it ultimately hits that high, we will find out soon enough, but it looks very promising.
There were rumours of a 3D Donkey Kong, but maybe it was this all along? Surely HAL have had some significant support on this?
Also, I hope the Sonic Team were watching. If Kirby can make a truly successful jump to 3D, you have to think surely Sonic could too?
I can only hope they release a special edition OLED Switch!! All that vibrant color has to be put to good use, Nintendo! A light pastel pink Switch with a mossy green dock.
@Screen - I knew of the subtle ones, I am talking about it being this blatant.
Kirby... Shiver Star... Star Dream and the Galactic Nova... The Ancients... Void Termina... This game is ripe lore material and I'm all in.
I don't mind the aesthetic change and post apocalyptic setting as humans are confirmed mostly gone in the Kirbyverse. Also it's still very charming and colorful which is a nice twist on the often dreary depicted cliche.
As a long time fan I'm very excited. I really can't wait to find out more about possible post game modes if they have any and further details on later enemies, bosses and worlds. The games usually start off chill and in a green area then get real strange and cosmic by the end. It's always a treat.
@Funneefox I was noticing the Waddle Dees, too. Specifically, that there are three of them, and they're functioning like a news crew or something similar.
In the trailer, we saw Kirby rescue three Waddle Dees. I wonder if this Waddle Dee news crew is the trio that you rescue, maybe early on, and they document/report on Kirby exploring this abandoned planet? One of them even has a 'teleprompter' of sorts with that spiral-bound notebook saying, "!!"
Alternatively, maybe they function more like the Toad Brigade in the Galaxy games — just sort of around and occasionally offering side-questy material.
I think the only Kirby game I played was Planet Robobot, which I enjoyed for a while. The overgrown city reminds me of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, which I also remember enjoying for a while.
@Yosher I'm really hoping DK and Yoshi are next in line for the 3D treatment. DK deserves a better game than DK64 and Yoshi deserves his shot at 3D just as much as Kirby does.
Nice piece of artwork, reminds me a little of a children's book.
@Kirby_Girl I'm guessing there'll be more collectables this time around. What with all that 3D space available to explore together with the big array of abilities and moves Kirby can do.
Kirby x Tokyo Jungle
@shoeses @Anti-Matter
The World Ends With Kirby
@SalvorHardin I thought the same thing about them having outside help, Though I wouldn’t say Star Allies was anaemic, some levels looked very good, New Super Mario Bros is a game I’d say is anaemic, it’s bland and uninspiring and just nothing going on in the levels that is appealing to the eye.
Kirby x Last of Us !
@Paraka they did it before in kirby 64 with shiver star
@GamesConvo the news crew are in a lot of those artworks that the kirby twitter posts so sadly they're not in the game
What is that weird blue flying mouse thing from the first image
