Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Three years ago, the eighth major installment in the Mario Kart series got a major speed boost when Nintendo released Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Nintendo Switch.

The 'Deluxe' version includes all of the existing DLC, sees the return of the proper battle mode, adds new characters like the Inklings, and updates the game with Nintendo Labo support. Nintendo's Australia and New Zealand Twitter account shared the following tweet, to remind Mario Kart fans far and wide of the special occasion:

To put this in perspective, Nintendo fans have technically been playing the eighth entry since 2014 (that's six years). Despite 'Deluxe' being an enhanced re-release, it's gone on to outsell Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U – shifting more than 22 million copies as of December 31st, 2019. The Switch version also happens to be the system's best-selling game to-date, according to Nintendo's official data.

If this anniversary isn't enough of an excuse to return to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo of America will soon be hosting the North American Open on 8th May. The top eight players each day will receive 2500 My Nintendo Gold Points.
