See, for me the alarms went off when Shovel Knight DX was announced. I've tried so hard to find justification for that particular game's existence but for the life of me I cannot see any reason to why that game couldn't just be a DLC expansion for Treasure Trove. The only reason I can come up with is they can make more money with it being a new game rather than limiting it to people that already own Treasure Trove which really puts a bad taste in my mouth as is feels like something EA would do, not YCG. It also bothers me as to how they are apparently running low on funds despite Shovel Knight being the major hit it was. He made such a splash that he got to be an assist trophy in Smash before Shantae or Super Meat Boy did, that should tell you just how big he got in such a short time. I'm no game developer so I am probably ignorant of a lot but from a consumers standpoint; this just feels off...
@Spider-Kev To be fair; I agree it sucks for those in the US. I live in the UK and the amiibo here are honestly not too bad, even the newer amiibos are at £16.99 ($22.22) while the older ones are £12.99 ($16.99) and used to be £10.99 ($14.37) so not gone up much. The Kirby Air Riders amiibos are £33.99 which converts to $44.46 so still a lot but not quite as much as you guys have to pay. Is it because of the tariffs that your prices are higher?
@Spider-Kev Right but your literal line is "$12.99 to $39.99 for basic amiibo is robbery!" which is not accurate because all the $12.99 are now $19.99, not $39.99.
@Spider-Kev Taking a quick look at the US Nintendo amiibo store shows "basic amiibos" are $19.99 with some of the newer ones at $29.99. Saying the $12.99 is now $39.99 is not accurate as many of the $12.99 ones are still only at $19.99.
If I had to say why some are $39.99 it's because they are 3rd Party amiibos and maybe the price has to be higher because they have to split the profits. This is actually not new as even back in the days of Monster Hunter Stories 2 those amiibo were always more expensive than 1st party Nintendo amiibos.
It's also not accurate to compare the Kirby Air Riders amiibos to others because the Kirby Air Riders ones are all 2-in-1 pack so you're buying 2 at the same time.
This is why I say your original quote is not accurate, you're picking 2 types of amiibos that don't align perfectly.
@Giancarlothomaz Well, for starters, Metroid Prime Remastered is a mere remaster of a Gamecube game and clearly doesn't have the same level of quality as Metroid Prime 4 does. Sure it still looks good, not saying it doesn't, but it just doesn't have the same level of quality due to it being a mere remaster instead of a full new game.
As for Metroid Dread; I'd argue that reason is because it's a 2D Metroid game. 2D games typically come out smaller than 3D games due to their linear design. For example, despite it coming out many years later, Super Mario Wonder (3.7GB) wasn't as big as Super Mario Odyssey (4.5GB).
Let me say this; They should absolutely consider porting Tekken Tag Tournament 2. This game was on the Wii U and sadly, despite it also being on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, it didn't sell too well. While I doubt it would bring back the Tekken Tag series from the brink of death, it would be a good way to make some extra money. And it's not likely it would need any major work, it looked good even on the Wii U so just porting it would be enough.
The thing is; The system itself I think is fair. I was expecting something around £400 even before the direct aired especially considering the increases in specs. But what I think is unreasonable is the price of the games. Unless Mario Kart World is absolutely packed to the brim with content, I don't see how what they've shown justifies the asking price. I also don't buy into the tariff argument, that's a US thing, if it was about that it wouldn't be happening worldwide.
Couldn't care less when it comes to GAME. They've been a stain on the UK Gaming scene for a good while now and honestly deserve to go bankrupt. Horrible company.
"If you're not directly working on the game, go away".
That alone tells me the type of person this guy is, he doesn't want a boss, he wants someone to fund his life while he gets to do what he wants with someone else's property. It's their IP, they have the rights to show it as they see fit.
@PedroMatos Technically yes, from a copyright perspective Nintendo can go after the creator of the mod BUT when it comes to Palworld it's a patent infringement, not a copyright one.
Oh my gosh, the idea of Nintendo losing a lawsuit due to a mod, something they are infamously against, is music to my ears. That would be such delicious irony.
@VoidofLight I've just looked up the director for Mario & Luigi: Brothership and it's listed as Haruyuki Ohashi who far as I can tell has never worked on any Mario game before this 1, let alone any in the Mario & Luigi series. In addition, the game had 4 producers and only 1 of them has worked on Mario and Luigi games before this 1.
Also, 1 last note, if they can get 1 of the original producers to work with Acquired, doesn't that further undermine the idea that this would put an end to the Mario & Luigi series?
@VoidofLight I really do not believe that was the sole deciding factor for them using Acquire. Nintendo has plenty of JRPG Directors and Producers at their disposal, even without Acquire, they still have plenty to pick from.
@Lofoten I once got into a debate with someone over this, they made a point that in 3rd world countries they use emulators to download games that they otherwise would never be able to pay for so there was no money to be made. They even claimed in those countries that there are no laws against downloading pirated games or media in general. Their words, not mine.
Hold up...how would this cast doubt? Alpha Dream was straight up shut down and Nintendo just moved the series to a new developer. They could even decide to develop a new M&L game in-house if they wanted to. How does this cast doubt?
@Max_the_German I haven't looked at the models myself so please correct me if I am wrong but according to what people have told me, the models are not copied from Pokemon.
Here's my take on AI in general; It should be used to make things easier, not replace people. And if it is being done to replace people; They should get paid for when their voices are used.
That said; I also feel like AI is fine for people like YouTubers. Let's be honest; Anyone that is using Biden, Obama, Trump, Etc AI voices are not "taking away" pay from them because that pay never would have existed in the first place. Just like how there's no way a random YouTuber would never have hired someone like Charles Martinet or Jennifer Hale because they wouldn't have had the money to begin with unless we're talking mega names like PewDiePie, MatPat, or Markiplier.
That all said; The only people I am happy with AI replacing are the woke "localizers" that delibarately change a script to fit their own agendas like what happened to Fire Emblem Engage.
@Ogbert This argument reeks of misinformation. Let's not sit here and pretend the other 3 campaigns were entirely "new". Plague Knight's Campaign reused a lot of stages from the original campaign. Spector Knight's campaign was arguably the most original but again, it still reused maps from Shovel of Hope just with new layouts for the already existing assets. The only major things that were changed was the moveset (Which was already promised), alterations to the story so it fit, and the main base of operations. I cannot comment on is King Knight's Campaign as I have to admit I have not played it yet but I do plan to. You also have to take into account how well the original game sold. It managed over 2 million sales! For an indie game that is insane! It was even so insane that SK got to jump the queue for Smash Bros and appeared as an assist trophy before the likes of Shantae and Super Meat Boy. I'd even argue YCG got paid a pretty penny for Shovel Knight to appear in Smash.
The reason I call this a cash-grab is because of the full context. Yes, they did more-than-deliver on the original stretch goals, I ain't denying that, but what feasible reason is there to get Shovel Knight Shovel of Hope DX over Shovel Knight Treasure Trove?
As for that comparison to Nintendo, I think that is flawed. Whenever Nintendo has re-released games it's usually been so newer players can play classics with potentially a new coat of paint. Personally; I actually picked up Super Mario 3D All-Stars because I never played SM64 and SMS. If I already owned all 3 games I wouldn't have bothered with it. Don't get me wrong; I'm not a Nintendo Bootlicker, I've been highly critical of them for many things such as going after mods for stupid reasons, shutting down competitive smash tournaments unless you follow their unrealistic requirements, and the entire joyconboyz situation.
Finally, telling me to have some perspective and that I should just let people enjoy this is flawed as these are all my thoughts. If people wanna go buy Shovel Knight DX I won't stop them, it's up to them and my opinions shouldn't affect them. But I ain't gonna keep my mouth shut just because some person on the Internet takes it so much to heart that it ruins their enjoyment, at that point it's on them.
@Ogbert If your defense to YCG is that you personally did not pay for it then you've missed the point. The point is whenever someone has criticized YCG (Like I am by saying this screams cash-grab) 1 of the most common defenses people bring up is they gave away 3 campaigns for free. This is factually wrong, YCG did not release them for free, they got a massive amount of donations for the game's development. If the kickstarter didn't happen you definitely would have been paying for when a new campaign released. Sure, you and myself may have gotten the DLC for free as I didn't donate either but using that as a defense against criticism is disingenuous.
@demacho Shovel Knight's DLC was not "free". When the game was first announced it was a kickstarter and how far the game went depended on how much money the kickstarter raised. Because it absolutely smashed expectations it ended up getting 4 total campaigns, showdown, and more extras on top. People even back then kept saying YCG didn't need to keep supporting it but actually yes, they did, because if they stopped they likely would have faced some sort of lawsuit. And yes, there have been other Shovel Knight games like Dig and Pocket Dungeon, but those are spin-offs made by other studios.
@roy130390 Yeah see, that is the problem though, we already have Treasure Trove which is already the definitive edition of Shovel Knight. Shovel Knight Treasure Trove has 4 campaigns, the showdown mode, amiibo support if you're on Nintendo, and so on. Shovel Knight DX is just the first campaign with added characters and some QOL changes. These additions could easily have been added to Treasure Trove but for some reason they choose to sell it as a new game. It would be like releasing Mario Kart 8 on the next system with some extra characters and some QOL updates but removing everything the deluxe version and the DLC had.
@Vyacheslav333 I mean, you're not wrong, but the version of SF2 before that 1 was Turbo HD Remix which was released in 2008 so that makes a 9 year difference. And Street Fighter 2 is super iconic especially to Nintendo so it makes sense they make a Ultra edition for the new-at-the-time system. Shovel Knight has only been around for 10 years but we still don't have a Shovel Knight 2. At least with Street Fighter we are still getting new games and expansions to existing games. Another thing to point out is all title updates to Street Fighter games is they keep the content from the previous version. This particular "Deluxe" version actually takes away content.
I love Shovel Knight and appreciate it very much but...come on, This version really doesn't need to exist, they could have just added the new characters (Most of which are reused from Showdown with some adjustments) and added the QOL updates to Treasure Trove. I literally cannot think of a good reason to make this DX version other than money, hence my first comment.
I'm glad to see I'm not alone in the confusion on this. This is basically just the first campaign with some QOL and 20 characters you can play as, it doesn't even include the other 3 campaigns. I really don't want to say this as I love YCG but this just screams cash-grab.
@KoopaTheGamer Exactly this. I think the best way to approach this topic is to think it's more of a spectrum. You start at standard game and then at the end you have a reboot. I feel this is the most realistic approach because that way everyone can have their own cut-off points.
@PcTV See this is what I do not understand. How can you say N Sane Trilogy is a remake but FF7R isn't? FF7R - Remakes everything from the ground up AND does a whole load of new stuff like the presentation of the story and the gameplay. CBNST - Remakes everything from the ground up but sticks closely to the original games.
If it's as simply as you claim, why is all this so hard to make sense of?
"Remaster is when you take the original files and master them to make it feel more modern like 16x9 and less compressed audio and textures. Like the Red Dead Redemption remaster."
But...if that's what a remaster is, how do you explain Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy? That's marketed as a remaster but the game was build from the ground up with new models, new textures, new sounds, and uses a different engine from the originals.
@-wc- This I definitely agree on, remake honestly isn't the best word for specifics but since that's what the industry and it's customers have settled on, it's sadly too late to change it.
But to be honest, even though I chimed in on this, it is honestly not a big deal. If the game is good and packed with content, all these labels really shouldn't matter.
@-wc- I get what you're saying but I think when people say "remake" they don't mean it in the literal sense of how they are remaking it by remastering it. They are saying it in the sense of how the new game is how it's presented, not the physical man-handling of remaking it.
I mean heck, if we are gonna count it that way, wouldn't that mean all HD Remasters are called remakes?
HD Remaster - The same game but upscaled to HD and can have some small enhancements. Examples Include; Devil May Cry HD Collection, Zelda Wind Waker/Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword HD, and Dragonball Z Budokai HD Collection.
Remaster - It's the original game but all the assets have been remade and some areas have received touch ups. Examples include; Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core Reunion, Metroid Prime Remastered, and Xenoblade Chronicles 1 Definitive Edition.
Remake - Base Concepts (Characters and World) are taken but it's pretty much treated as a new game. The story, while can follow the original to an extend, tends to cut loose and tries new ideas. Obvious examples here are Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Pokemon Remakes, and Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia.
I think the problem with this particular subject is everyone has a cut-off point. Many people would consider Super Mario RPG a remake but personally I would count that as a remaster since it's the same as the original but all the assets are remade. It's kinda leaning towards the remake category but to me because it's following the original closely it doesn't get placed on the same level as let's say Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
@-wc- To be honest; If they took the approach of it still being presented the same way but instead of sprites we get actual high-poly character models, I'd be 100% down for that. I love FF6 and it's visuals but I'd love to see characters like Celes, Edgar, and Setzer in the visual format of say Dissidia NT. I remember first seeing Locke from that game and was blown away at how good he looked compared to how he looks in sprite form. And yes, I am aware there are the CGI scenes from the Playstation version but honestly they look meh to me not to mention I can't tell who some of them are.
@PtM That wasn't really a trailer aimed at showing the game, it was nothing more than a teaser and it didn't even give us the name of the game, just that it was a new Smash Bros game and it was coming in 2018.

I really don't want to say this as I love YCG but this just screams cash-grab.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@KoopaTheGamer Exactly this.
I think the best way to approach this topic is to think it's more of a spectrum. You start at standard game and then at the end you have a reboot. I feel this is the most realistic approach because that way everyone can have their own cut-off points.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@PcTV Huh...you know when you put it that way I actually see what you mean.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@PcTV See this is what I do not understand. How can you say N Sane Trilogy is a remake but FF7R isn't?
FF7R - Remakes everything from the ground up AND does a whole load of new stuff like the presentation of the story and the gameplay.
CBNST - Remakes everything from the ground up but sticks closely to the original games.
If it's as simply as you claim, why is all this so hard to make sense of?
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@larryisaman I mean it's marketed as a remaster so...not a remake in my opinion.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@PcTV Alright, let's address this part then
"Remaster is when you take the original files and master them to make it feel more modern like 16x9 and less compressed audio and textures. Like the Red Dead Redemption remaster."
But...if that's what a remaster is, how do you explain Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy? That's marketed as a remaster but the game was build from the ground up with new models, new textures, new sounds, and uses a different engine from the originals.
If it's so simple then explain this.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@-wc- This I definitely agree on, remake honestly isn't the best word for specifics but since that's what the industry and it's customers have settled on, it's sadly too late to change it.
But to be honest, even though I chimed in on this, it is honestly not a big deal. If the game is good and packed with content, all these labels really shouldn't matter.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@PcTV "How can this even be up for debate? If the words are so clear."
Except...it's not as simple as you're saying it is. Subjectivity plays a major role in this subject which is why it's often discussed.
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
@-wc- I get what you're saying but I think when people say "remake" they don't mean it in the literal sense of how they are remaking it by remastering it. They are saying it in the sense of how the new game is how it's presented, not the physical man-handling of remaking it.
I mean heck, if we are gonna count it that way, wouldn't that mean all HD Remasters are called remakes?
Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?
Here's my stand on this subject
Re: Konami Announces Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Collection For Switch, Launching This Year
@Angelic_Lapras_King Oh I see, okay thanks.
I really hope Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories is in it, loved that game just for the soundtrack.
Re: Konami Announces Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Collection For Switch, Launching This Year
Just 2 games? Seems abit lacking.
Re: Don't Expect A Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Soon, If Ever
@-wc- To be honest; If they took the approach of it still being presented the same way but instead of sprites we get actual high-poly character models, I'd be 100% down for that.
I love FF6 and it's visuals but I'd love to see characters like Celes, Edgar, and Setzer in the visual format of say Dissidia NT. I remember first seeing Locke from that game and was blown away at how good he looked compared to how he looks in sprite form.
And yes, I am aware there are the CGI scenes from the Playstation version but honestly they look meh to me not to mention I can't tell who some of them are.
Re: Random: Sakurai Takes A Stand Against CGI Game Trailers
@PtM That wasn't really a trailer aimed at showing the game, it was nothing more than a teaser and it didn't even give us the name of the game, just that it was a new Smash Bros game and it was coming in 2018.
Re: Don't Expect A Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Soon, If Ever
@-wc- This feels condescending...
Re: Don't Expect A Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Soon, If Ever
@OstianOwl Wait....we aren't? That's what I've been asking for.
