Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

NCChris

@Scapetti But those profits aren't being generated from the mods, they are being generated from ad-revenue which is very different. If you're gonna make the argument that Modded Video Game content can't be monetized then that means all video game content can't be monetized.
And besides, Nintendo has no reason to do this, they are basically being that spoiled kid that refuses to share his toys because "they're his".
These people are doing what they do out of sheer love for the company, they are not Nintendo's enemies, and this is how they are treated? It doesn't matter if Nintendo is "legally" in the right, even though I still disagree they are, they still don't need to do this to people that only want to support them.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

NCChris

@Scapetti For starters, this is from the fudging 90's which was a grossly different time and the Internet was still in it's infancy.
Secondly, this is a bad example because this page clearly states that the people were SELLING their version of the game. This alone makes the case very different.
And finally, if you read this carefully, it says "The district court found that Micro Star had likely infringed copyright with their packaging, which included artwork from Duke Nukem 3D, but found that the levels themselves were non-infringing"

Did you get that? It wasn't the levels themselves that were infringing, it was the packaging which I actually agree is infringing but mods don't sell anything nor do they come with any packaging, unless you're gonna claim ZIP files are "Packaging" lol

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

NCChris

@Scapetti Nintendo literally has a page on their website that says what to do and not to do and there's nothing on there that says you're not allowed to mod games, not to mention modding is only illegal in Japan so even from a law perspective Nintendo may not be in the right.

@Duffman92 I'm sorry to be blunt but you don't know what you're talking about. The Multiplayer Mod was made with Open Source Code that is not copyrighted. If Nintendo, or anyone for that matter, owned the rights to that code then it would be grounds for a lawsuit but since it's public domain it's legal for anyone to use it.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

NCChris

@Purgatorium
It literally isn't any different when it comes to streaming or uploading videos. If Modded content isn't allowed then neither is Non-Modded content.
The best thing Nintendo could do is take a look at the mods of the game in question and if they find the mod was made with their coding then they'd have a right to sue the modder because even code can be copyrighted.
But from what I know any mod for Nintendo games has been made with open-source public domain coding so in that sense Nintendo wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The only other way they could have is if the mod is being sold but since anyone can play the Zelda BOTW Multiplayer mod, that means it's not being sold and all that's required is the ownership of the game and system. As for ads appearing to generate revenue, that's a different side to the legal system which is where fair use comes in.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod YouTube Videos Are Getting Copyright Strikes

NCChris

@Anti-Matter I've read your posts on here and if you ask me you have some bad takes.
Modding, while I won't deny can be misused, can also be used for good. It's not about "Ego" it simply stems from sheer love of the game they are playing.
It's also legal to mod games in the UK and US so...no, Nintendo is just being a bully here and trying to force Japan's laws onto other countries.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Lucina In Fire Emblem Engage

NCChris

@MegaVel91 Uhm...there's "consistent" and then there's being way too similar.
I've played countless RPG's and many of them have a consistent style but they still look distinct. This isn't "consistency", this is just the result of everyone looking far too similar. It wouldn't even surprise me if Lucina and Edelgard end up sharing the same head model just with different eyes and hair.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Lucina In Fire Emblem Engage

NCChris

@AtlanteanMan See that's what happens when you listen to the Internet and not the official announcements. Also, you're not willing to follow the official trailers because spoilers but am willing to read articles from people not involved with the game or company? If anything it should be the opposite because websites are far more prone to sharing leaked footage or spoilers than Nintendo are. In fact they did! This game actually got leaked before it was announced and articles online jumped on it almost instantly.

Re: Best Of 2022: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

NCChris

The thing is; I personally don't mind the idea of a subscription fee, it gives players a good chunk of classic games to play for a not-so demanding price. I mean I know NSOE is like £50 for a year but that's not exactly unreasonable for someone with a standard income.
But the way Nintendo has handled this has just been horrible, if we got like 3-6 games every month then sure that'd be good especially since N64 games are now in the mix but the output of these games has been so horribly slow that it makes you wonder what the point of having it in the first place was.
And it doesn't also help that whenever they do add some new games, they usually are games nobody wants. I mean we still ain't got Super Mario RPG for crying out loud! And no, Geno being owned by Square is no excuse, if they can get him into Smash as a Mii Costume they sure as heck can get a port of the game he's from for Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo either needs to ditch this game subscription service and just bring back Virtual Console or book up their ideas and actually make NSO good.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Lucina In Fire Emblem Engage

NCChris

@Zeroo The game isn't even out yet and you're already claiming they don't belong? Come on, at least wait till it's out and you've played it.
Also, you do realize this game is part of the 30th Anniversary Celebration, right? If anything it makes sense they'd do this.

Re: Fire Emblem Engage For Switch Will Include amiibo Support

NCChris

I honestly cannot understand how Fire Emblem Amiibos didn't become an ongoing thing. I mean just imagine how much money Nintendo would make if they focused on waifus alone.
I also find it hilarious that Marth, the face of Fire Emblem, doesn't even have an amiibo in his own series while Tiki and Chrom do!

Re: Fire Emblem Engage Characters - Every New And Returning Hero Revealed So Far

NCChris

@Goofonzo I mean, no offense, but if we are playing that game then by your logic the older games failed the series while the newer ones dug it up from the ashes, used the reanimation jutsu, and made it better than ever.
And what makes it worse is even in the GCN and Wii days, Fire Emblem was getting support from Smash Bros and still couldn't manage to stand on it's own legs.
Meanwhile FE:A received zero help from Smash Bros and still managed to become the best selling game in the series when it was the latest.
Again, I personally don't follow this logic myself as I think it's flawed but by your own stance, the newer games did what the older ones could not.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

NCChris

I figured this would make it onto this site at some point so here’s my thoughts..

If the story about the 4K is true, then yeah I can see where she is coming from, Bayonetta is funded by Nintendo (Hence the NS Exclusivity) so they could 100% afford to pay her more. It also doesn’t help with Kamiya’s response as it just comes off as childish and not taking the situation too seriously.

However, when I actually watched the videos from her, I very quickly was turned off from wanting to be on her side. She starts off by calling the higher-ups “Fat Cats” which is absolutely NOT how you act when you want people to listen to you. Even if you are in the right, taking this approach is not okay as it just makes your side look bad.
Then she had the nerve to pass completely uncalled for remarks towards the new voice actress saying stuff stuff like “She doesn’t have the right to autograph items as Bayonetta” and that “She is Bayonetta, she created that voice”.
First off, no Hellena, you are not Bayonetta. Bayonetta is the creation of Platinum Games, your contribution to the character is merely a voice. I’m not saying your role isn’t important, it is, but it’s only a piece of the pie. The animation, design, and story is the work of others.
Secondly, this whole “I created that voice” is a bad argument. Hellena, you are the not the only person that voices Bayonetta, Atsuko Tanaka does the Japanese voice and since technically Bayonetta was made by a Japanese Company, I would argue, by your own logic, that she has more priority than you do. Obviously I don’t buy this entire mentality as it’s stupid to begin with but I’m just showing why this argument makes no sense.
And before anyone tells me “She wished her all the best”, you cannot tell me that while also spouting nonsense like this. She definitely said that as a way to cover herself.

Another area I find so hypocritical is when she started talking about Jesus and quoted scripture. Lady, you literally voice a woman that commands demonic powers and even summons demonic creatures, if you really cared this much about Jesus and Bible Scripture, you shouldn’t have even been willing to take this role to begin with. The only reason you’re bringing this up now is because you want to try use whatever defense you can muster.

And now finally we come to the whole “boycotting” thing. This is just flat out horrible, people have poured literally years worth of work into this game but you want that to go to waste just because of an offer you turned down? Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if they offered her this amount because they knew she would turn it down and that way they don’t have to work with her. Obviously that’s just speculation but considering how she’s throwing a tantrum over not appearing a 3rd time, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case.

Again, if the story about the 4K is true then I do sympathize with her but considering her demeanor and generally bad attitude, I’m finding it really hard to root for her.

Re: Random: "Die-Hard Nintendo Fan" Reportedly Forked Out Over $40K To Ask For A New F-Zero

NCChris

@YoshiF2 Except you missed my point entirely. You specifically said they should make a new F-Zero instead of the 30th Fire Emblem Game.
Yes, F-Zero can get a game it ends up being the franchise's saviour but that was never my point, my point was it would be extremely stupid to ditch a franchise that makes a ton of money in favour of one that's been dead for over a decade.
The point I made never was about a franchise getting a saviour, it was about how dumb it would be to not make a new Fire Emblem and instead to focus on a dead franchise.

Re: Random: "Die-Hard Nintendo Fan" Reportedly Forked Out Over $40K To Ask For A New F-Zero

NCChris

@YoshiF2
Fire Emblem prints money, why in the world would a company stop making something that makes a lot of money? This shouldn't even need to be a question.
This is precisely why F-Zero has been dormant because it clearly couldn't stand on it's own 2 legs without Smash Bros and Mario Kart carrying it.
Fire Emblem Awakening was meant to be the last game but they have continued making more, why? Because that game did amazing sales and basically saved the franchise. It's not rocket science man.

Re: The Pokémon Legends Website Seems To Be Teasing Something...

NCChris

@VoidofLight Bro, Pokemon Legend Arceus is literally set long before any of the modern games started, even the name of the region of different.
You really think the genies being from Unova matters here? How do you know they migrated to Unova later on and that this Flying-Fairy just got lost in the process?
And yeah, as Bolt Strike Said, Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno got Galarian Forms despite being from Kanto so there's nothing to suggest the same can't happen with the genies.
I'm not saying the leak is 100% real, it could be fake, but what you're saying makes no sense.

Re: Soapbox: If The Smash Community Wants To #SaveSmash, It Needs To Start From Within

NCChris

What in the heck did I just read? This is absolutely ridiculous.
The cancellation of Big House with Slippi and the abuse allegations are 2 entirely different things that just happen to be within the Smash Scene.
If Nintendo came out the bluntly said it was because of the allegations then you'd have a good argument but the amount of ignorance shown in this article is downright disturbing.
Nintendo Life, I'd put Alan on an approval process because if I was in charge of this site and I saw this garbage flying, I sure as hell wouldn't allow him to roam free and spread misinformation like what's contained in this article.
Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.

Re: Stardew Valley Has Sold Over 10 Million Copies In Just Four Years

NCChris

Good, this game is fantastic and it makes me so happy knowing Indie games are getting the attention they deserve.
Back when indies were starting to find their feet, I was worried they'd only be a short-term outburst due to people comparing them to main stream games and deeming them inferior.
So glad to see that isn't the case.

Re: Random: Poor Junichi Masuda Can't Even Enjoy His Birthday Without Someone Moaning About Missing Pokémon

NCChris

@KitChan I hate to break this to you but even with the cut down roster, Pokemon Sword and Shield is very unbalanced, so much so that Smogon have straight up banned Dynamaxing in it's entirety, not even Mega Evolution, arguably 1 of the most unbalanced mechanics in the series, was treated that harshly.
Dex cut or not, the game would have been very unbalanced either way.
