The big push behind this is the amount of people (more often casual than hardcore) who want to save money and they support it in any form… Its not even a idea formed within Nintendo, but by MS and its Game Pass and they dont even have a yearly plan yet. People want to go through these game sub plans in the face of creeping rising retail prices on games over the years. This is the answer towards against $100 retail new games in the future. Also, I like this DLC Pass… because it puts certain DLC to scrutiny. Im looking at Pokemon right now with this.
Woo boy… well, at least this is Nintendo of America and not Nintendo of Japan where the bulk of the work is at. Im interested in seeing unions in the gaming industry though against the sloppy work that certain companies are doing.
Lets not forget that the alternative to Advance Wars, Wargroove, is out on Switch and so on. I know they did it out of respect with irl events and I respect that… but when a concept of a game like Advance Wars is out in some form, people gonna go for it anyway in the face of it all.
I cant help but see the Expansion Pack as an incomplete picture. $25 a year for this piece of AC DLC does not make sense at all, unless they plan to include more DLC even from other games. A Nintendo-wide DLC Pass is potential unexplored territory and something the game industry hasnt seen yet. Ive seen complaints about PS Plus games (yes even on PushSquare) and Game Pass titles having poor selections of monthly titles and are timed to go away and they get frustrated to the point where they want to choose a game elsewhere. But with this concept of a Nintendo DLC Pass in the Expansion Pack, you still get to choose where you get your games and pay a lower rate for DLC. Paying a flat rate of $25 a year for DLC in this manner is more enticing, because how much have we been paying for DLC these past several years? And even if its not worthy to you now, the selection would build up later so you can hold your $25 a year for later if you choose. As for the emulations, $5 a year is $5 a year. It couldve been worse than it already it is.
Cant wait for digital only gaming to rise to see how people are gonna miss physical and not do anything about it to keep physical relevant in the markets. With Sony and Nintendo not really respecting their legacy stuff and people still buying from them, the future is sealed.
One thing I would like to see is if they can do something about transferring some stuff over to Splatoon 3 via save data on our Switch, since we have two Splatoons in the same gen, to maybe compensate the move to Splatoon 3.
@Octane one problem with that, i hear there are so many antitrust investigations with Apple right now and this battle is only a part of the bigger picture. I recall some EU Commission person who is pretty much with the anti big tech company group who battles with Facebook and Google, the latter takes the same cut of revenue as Apple’s. Just focusing on Epic hate while there’s government investigations by US and EU over Apple’s shenanigans on these issues is not smart here.
We need innovative ways to keep the price tag low for a game. I dont want to have to pay in the future a $100 price tag for one game, if we let this continue upward. No.
Definitely one of the lowest points of the past decade. What a great personality we have lost. I miss Iwata’s care for the craft and seeing him on a Direct. What an impactful legacy that he left behind for us.
This is what happens when you dont read through that linked Bloomberg article... They said they are gonna take a break from it for a while due to not having any mobile projects in the works rn and the bigger console success, which they will more focus now in these trying times. Also, they remember here what is Nintendo’s purpose in the mobile market, to bring smartphone users to their consoles.
Playtonic got their own stuff to work on now... They are not Rare staff anymore... but I dont mind them stepping up to help out Rare to bring up a Banjo Kazooie game or some other Rare IP back in the spotlight. If they do, Id rather want it to be a surprise at this point. Its possible, even their offices are close to each other.
A Direct days before the end of the fiscal year and then the annual financial meeting in April makes good sense. Along with the release and sales of the new AC, more money coming soon.
It should be noted that backers of the W101 Remastered game will get their copies two weeks early from retail release, and yes, any DLC is free for backers. With 4 days remaining, if you had an eye on this game, you’re welcome to back this. Admittedly, we backers do need some help with a social media mission we are having trouble with... Its not the money thats the problem... its the amount of backers and anyone else on those social media missions. Kickstarter campaign ends on Friday noon Pacific.
@LUIGITORNADO have you really seen the Sonic fanbase and how they treat their ships of characters? At least, they are open about it. No reverse campaigning needed on this side when it was never broken. This is likely an attack from non gamer haters who dont want to see a game movie one up their movie. Matter of fact, this is the stuff that politicians love, a really rather half hearted smear campaign with little research done over a movie backed by gamers and the franchise itself, which we are glad that they listened to us on the project before the release.
@Maschinenmensch Unfortunately, just heard about insecurities about Sonic earning more over BoP so much that BoP fans took to Twitter trying to derail that by claiming there were homophobic slurs in the Sonic movie when they weren’t. Like so here... https://twitter.com/LSMark_/status/1226958098289635330?s=20
Well deserved. Detective Pikachu had the work on the Sonic movie become woke and that Pokemon movie was a test movie in bringing Pokemon to real life, while the Sonic movie is a main event for the franchise. Now, having back to back good game movies feels great when they stay close to the source material as possible. With Miyamoto heading the Mario film, we gonna get it good.
They have been slowly adding in the tiers and stuff that people would like. Just this morning in the Eastern US, I upgraded my pledge to the new digital/physical combo tier.
Probably aiming for the Steam version for the prospect of Steam mods... Would I had the choice, Id get digital Steam and physical Switch as a collector’s item.
For those who might be concerned after hearing a certain piece of info floating around... its official that Dangen is not an official partner in the W101 KS.
I feel certain I’ll back them. Curious about what tiers they will be, but I’ll pay like its a regular game at least. Plus, we, as those who played W101, know what its like and we can testify the game’s strengths and weaknesses. I do not mind helping in giving the W101 the second wind it deserves, after the Wii U era. Cant wait for others to see what they missed out on, underrated gem it is.
Well, it does open back up the discussion of first party fighters in dlc again... like byleth practically opened the door to say... one of the Galar starter Pokemon now?
Some possibilities come up while I was discussing this with others... This is Capcom leading us on... who owns other highly requested franchises... so it could be Monster Hunter or Phoenix Wright while Dante ends up Mii costume
Well, its nice to hear interest of doing these things... Yet if there would be a movie of Star Fox, the series creator, Miyamoto-sama, would probably be on this as the head in making it, like with the Mario movie he is making with Illumination Studios.
Not only was Splatoon a fresh take on the shooter genre, it produced an amazing culture that fans take to the Internet about. Splatoon just rocks my world. Are you still a kid or are you a squid now?

@StardustWhip exactly, right now, its on rocky terrain, but the situation seems to be still steerable, whether its by Nintendo or by us gamers.
