Star Fox is a Nintendo series that hasn't experienced any aerial dogfights since 2016 when PlatinumGames released Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. Recently, though, some realistic artwork of the Star Fox team designed by the God of War art director Raf Grrasetti has got fans talking about the close-knit team of anthropomorphic animals again.
One of these individuals includes the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta. He responded directly to Grassetti's artwork, revealing he's a big Star Fox fan and would love the chance to write a story for an animated Star Fox movie. Raf enthusiastically replied, by saying he was on board.
Apart from Rogue One, some of Gary's other work includes working on the animated show Star Wars Rebels for four episodes and the 2010 film, The Book of Eli. He's also got an extensive history with video games, co-writing Telltale's The Walking Dead series, and helping out with the writing in Duke Nukem Forever, Prey and Gears of War.
His love of games is no surprise, either, considering he was the editor-in-chief of the PC Gamer in both the UK and the US. Of course, we probably shouldn't get too carried away, but if we ever need someone to write a script for an animated Star Fox series, we at least know now who to contact.

Starfox is the perfect series to adapt into a movie, or even an anime for that matter. It's kinda surprising we haven't seen any Starfox projects in the past when we've had anime for series like Kirby and F-Zero, and we have a Mario movie in the works. I would prefer it if the movie was animated more cartoony, and less realistic like the recent photos.
Sadly, he is not going to follow through with that, but I would be so down with one.

How wild would it be if the movie tied into the next game? I'm just glad that the series is getting some love from a big name.
Well, its nice to hear interest of doing these things... Yet if there would be a movie of Star Fox, the series creator, Miyamoto-sama, would probably be on this as the head in making it, like with the Mario movie he is making with Illumination Studios.

Was thinking the same thing about a movie when i saw this yesterday. Star Fox and Oddworld are both ripe for a good movie IMO, and have been for a while.
The voice actors that are still voicing Fox and the team, like they did on the 64 game would suit a movie well too.
Yes please! I LOVE Rogue One. It's one of my favorite Star Wars movies of all time. To me it's easily the best Star Wars movie done by Disney that I've seen. Force Awakens is meh...Last Jedi is awful (in my opinion), and I have yet to see Solo and Episode IX.
I'd absolutely be down for this. Could be just the thing the Star Fox franchise needs, well aside from a new game. It needs to have its story moved forward instead of constantly rehashing the original Star Fox as was the case with 64 and Zero.
So there is this series called A Fox in Space on youtube....... Why not make the game overall more mature? But I know, this is Nintendo so it wouldn't happen.

I'll give that Rogue One has some cool space battles and that Vader scene was pretty epic. But that's all I liked about the film. So him saying this is very much, not a good sign for me.
@patbacknitro18 There are alot of IPs of Nintendo that would be perfect for adaption into an anime or movies.
Star Fox is one, and I think that Fire Emblem could be another one. They could devote a season or two to each game in the Fire Emblem series, and the major battles could be an episode or two or two episodes while adding new Anime exclusive characters as well.
Rogue One was the only Star Wars movie that I liked under the Disney ownership. I would definitely give him an interview at the very least.

Remember that 15 minute animated short Nintendo made for Zero back when that was coming out? That was begging for adaptation to a film or TV series. A Fox in Space (as mentioned a few times here already) was also a very good stab at the IP, but considering the strictly indie team working on that I will be dead before we get another episode.
Gary also announced some Last Starfighter hype last year. How about a crossover lol.

@DarthNocturnal In the canon I care about, the real canon as far as I am concerned. It was founded by Luke and Wedge after the battle of Yavin. It had nothing to do with the nonsense in the "new canon" and like most bastardized ideas from "legends" the new canon does not treat it with the respect it deserves.
But that's just how things are. I get that people like the new movies, and it's fine that they do. They are fully entitled to that.
But I don't. And I'm not afraid to make that clear.
Games to movies rarely work well. And I don’t think Star Fox is highly recognised outside of Nintendo fans. But I bet it’d be far better than the Sonic movie!

I did not. I find the idea that the squadron would be named for people like that to be ridiculous and forced in. But I have low opinions of effectively the entire new canon. There's very little I like as much as the old EU and nothing I like better.
All I will give them is that the movies are visually impressive - like they always have been for their eras. So at the very least, they didn't screw that up.

@Heavyarms55 No, that's an awesome change as to how they picked the name! It's a very honorable thing to do and not forced at all! It also fits right in with how so many capital ships are named after famous in-universe people.
Besides, while there have some mishaps with the new canon, I don't know how you can prefer the old EU when it is FAR worse with it's various inconsistencies and a significantly higher ratio of lousy stories and lore. It was good when it was all we had, but the new canon does a much better job of more consistently telling good stories while a dedicated story group keeps everything straight, and the stuff that is re-canonized from Legends like Grand Admiral Thrawn is usually handled well. For one thing, at least we now have just one definitive story as to how the Death Star plans were stolen.
@BulbasaurusRex You don't want to have this conversation with me. We're going to stop here. You will never get me to agree that anything about the new canon is better than the EU. As far as I am concerned it is not even an opinion, it's fact that the EU is more creative, has better world building, treated the original cast with far more respect, has better original characters and treated its viewers with more respect.
If you disagree - fine. Just leave it at that. Because I'm telling you straight up - there's no arguments left to make to me, it's impossible to change my mind and I don't mind if you don't agree with me.
I like Rogue One's directing, but god damn did I hate the actual plot. I wouldn't cross out the writing team writing a Star Fox film.
