Ever since Banjo and Kazooie were officially confirmed as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters last summer, rumours and speculation surrounding new games and remasters for Rare's legendary series have been doing the rounds online. One such rumour suggests that Playtonic, a studio housing plenty of ex-Rare staff, is helping Rare, Microsoft, or both to create a new title.
Today, and not for the first time, Playtonic Games has taken to social media to gently let down any fans believing such rumours to be true.
Playtonic says, "it's never fun to come out and say these things, but we're trying to avoid hopes being pinned on us".
What the Yooka-Laylee developer really is currently up to is being kept under wraps for now, but it might be best to avoid dreaming about any brand new Banjo-Kazooie games guh-huh-ing onto your Switch. Is guh-huh-ing a word? It is now.

Better that way then getting the hopes too high.
But I like the idea of a PlayTonic Banjo Game very much!
...there were rumors in the first place?
Playtonic got their own stuff to work on now... They are not Rare staff anymore... but I dont mind them stepping up to help out Rare to bring up a Banjo Kazooie game or some other Rare IP back in the spotlight. If they do, Id rather want it to be a surprise at this point. Its possible, even their offices are close to each other.
People need to let things go...
@somebread Banjo rumors do accour in the Xbox camp like every two weeks.
It's a sad world when Rare is no longer the same developer and called on to work on their own IPs anymore. Although they aren't the same anymore and you could tell first when some left to form Free Radical and the rest left years later to form Playtonic. Microsoft for for most part got the carcass.
I mean this is the same Twitter account that also semi-frequently posts historic Rare stuff like Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, and weird stuff like "Kazooie is always pregnant", so of course people are going to look at Playtonic for more Banjo Kazooie.
@RupeeClock Excuse me, what the hell?
@noswitchbutidc
I wasn't joking about that weird tweet.

They're ex-Rare. Considering how long Grant Kirkhope said the two weren't coming to Smash, a false denial cannot be ruled out as a possibility...
According to the internet these days every IP and possible crossover is being worked on by someone
Hopefully another Yooka-Laylee game, the impossible lair was brilliant!
Playtonic also has a history of poo-posting on twitter, so there isn't much credibility backing this claim
@Alpha-2002 oh you how funny
@ummyeahnintendo get a grip kid
I dont want them to make a new one tbh. Banjo deserves to rest peacefully. Yooka Laylee was buns and Impossible lair was good bit DKC Freeze exists
we were told Banjo coming to Smash was just a "rumor" but i have to admit
i dont see a Banjo Kazooie title coming soon, too many politics involved and Microsoft/Xbox would hate to see the game sell more on Nintendo consoles proving they never shouldve got the IPO to begin with
id rather Banjo Kazooie be completely remade like Spyro and Crash and then sold for $30
@RupeeClock Unfortunately...
Shame, I would love for Banjo-Kazooie to get more games, even if it would just be a Crash Bandicoot style remake of Kazooie, Tooie, and Nuts and Bolts.
Also I feel obligated to mention on every Banjo-Kazooie article that they should port Rare Replay to Switch.
Thamk God this is not true. Yooka Laylee was such a disappointment that I would rather it was developed by someone else.
That's never going to happen, but I would hope Playtonic are at least consulted in some way if the Banjo games do eventually land on Switch.
Ha Banjo-Kazooie itself already got its name tarnish when it went to Microsoft while Playtonic tarnish their own reputation when they release Yooka-Laylee in a disappointing state. At this point its best to just give anything Rare use to make to Retro Studio and had them revive it instead, I'm sure they'll become a much better replacement.
@PickledKong64 Hey... nothing wrong with a bit of hope in these trying times, right?
Lol at people who think a random tweet by a nobody holds more credibility than PlayTonic "cause they denied a thing and then it happened".
@RPGamer dont worry about it it's not your problem. And it's my opinion
I mean, they created Yooka-Lalyee, and the reason why this series was created is that they couldn't make another Banjo-Kazooie game anymore. Of course, they are not working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game.
It would be awesome if true
I would love for a remake of the first two games with the original score intact. “I want to believe...”- X-Files theme intensifies-
Well, they dont want to make money obviously.
I never understood, why rare never made a true follower of banjo-kazooie, banjo-tooie.
Its one of the few great games they made.
@MaxlRoseGNR
The xbox needs a game like banjo kazooie, without these type of games i see the xbox franschise slowly die.
They already took a hard punch after the xbox360.
The console misses diversity in games.
It also the reason why i left my favorite brand, games are depressing, you want to see more exclusive titels like on ps and on nintendo consoles.
The xbox is all about explosions, shooting.
The console made me depressive, and the xbox one was a mayor setback after the legendary xbox360.
