@dew12333 For most people, the substance isn’t the issue, it’s how to get OUT of abusing the substance that becomes the issue. Years ago when Everquest was big, my friend would regularly call out sick for a week to two weeks at a time simply so he can sit at home to farm rare item drops. Obviously, he got fired. He’s still hooked on MMO style games, and has tons of social problems as a result.
You think it’s a waste of money, I think for some people it will become their saving grace, like so many who take Alcoholics Anonymous support group sessions.
@Doofenshmirtz So my buddy playing Everquest back in the day to the point where he would purposefully call out sick from work for two weeks at a time just to farm items....you see where I’m going with this, I hope...
@KingMike Video games are so addictive, there are treatment centers for the people that fall too far into it and are unable to dig themselves out. When I see a speed runner grinding the same game, 12 hours a day, I see addiction. When I see a kid playing the same game for an hour a day, I think that’s a lot different than addiction.
@Lizuka Exactly. Agree 100%. The majority of the user base is slamming the parents. Yes, they played a part in their current situation, but I know that video game companies are happy doing the bare minimum when it comes to informing their customers about their products.
@Zuljaras No, they should put informative labels with things regarding the loot boxes and the competitive and addictive nature of the online play. Perhaps a warning to monitor and limit the child’s play during online interactions. That sort of thing, doesn’t have to be drastic.
@Galenmereth Exactly this, right here. Parents only know so much. Video games have become increasingly complex. It’s absurd to expect every parent to fully understand the weight behind every game, especially if they don’t play games. It’s easy for a gamer to self regulate, it’s next to impossible for a child.
@Zuljaras I doubt they are doing it for money. They are doing it to send a message to the public. That’s generally what these lawsuits are about. It’s no lie that a company like Epic has employed the use of psychology in marketing; it’s extremely common practice in the modern era. It’s a similar reason that companies re-release older games; nostalgia is extremely influential in people’s decision making. All good companies study their client base before selling; it’s just such a shame that the addictive nature of video games becomes a marketing exploit, sometimes. That being said, I think it’s perfectly understandable that they are being sued. Tobacco and alcohol have extremely clear warnings about their negative side effects when misused. Video games should have clear warnings, too, not just an ESRB label.
Surprised that so many voted for the Japanese version. I find that one to look a little juvenile and cartoony. The American version looks clean and of course, features Haggar so that's a big win right there.
I lightly skimmed the article a few times, and I’m wondering what the control scheme is. Does it use the D Pad or the stick? Does it have touch screen controls in handheld? Thanks!
I love Link's Awakening, and it's interesting to me that this game makes my Switch heat up much more than Skyrim or Dark Souls, which are comparably more demanding, graphically.
@Razieluigi If I go to Best Buy, the cheapest stylus they offer in-store is a $40 microsoft one. They literally only offer those and higher. Target's cheapest is $20 for some off brand. The cheapest on Amazon is $7 + shipping. Sooo...where can I get this $2 stylus?
@Lizuka It's amazing to me how people still don't know how they are being studied and manipulated by marketing firms, with the intent of getting into our wallets. Well stated opinion, just saddle up for all the people who are gonna accuse you of being a "hater," instead of recognizing that not everybody has to agree with Nintendo's marketing and sales tactics, lol.
@bluemage1989 I thought entitled brats have lots of money to spend on things, hence making them feel entitled to lots of things? People who don't have lots of money to spend on extra, superfluous items are now entitled, in your mind? WTF mate? Hahaha...
@Notshane Sorry, it's a public forum. Everyone is allowed to state their opinion on the matter.
That being said, I also dislike Nintendo's artificial scarcity. It worked to build lots of demand for the classic-mini systems they made recently, and it is a strategy that marketing companies will continue to use on the mass market to build demand.
@JaxonH I had drift issues after 5 months, and contact cleaner didn't fix the issue. Neither did disassembling the unit. I'm pretty handy with electronics but this one had some (for lack of a better term) "stuff" that had been scraping off. Not sure what material it was but when I disassembled it there was what appeared to be a ground metallic substance, like a fine powder or dust. Something in there wasn't right. Nintendo ended up just giving me a new unit.
All I'm saying, hardware failures can be caused by numerous issues, and with Nintendo's continual shift to "quantity over quality," it's clear why they are having a class action lawsuit held above their heads. They need to re-investigate their business practices, and find a better way to mass produce their gear without sacrificing the quality that they are usually offering.
Getting tired of unfinished releases. Getting tired of the mass public being the new beta testers. It’s great that they recreated such a faithful successor to Castlevania, but it’s such a shame that the current state of the game just isn’t worth the asking price.
@BlackenedHalo What’s the problem with the world, other than the strange connection to Iron Keep? Also, graphics fail? Not sure what you mean there, either. Could you elaborate?
@nessisonett Dark Souls 2 is easily my favorite in the series, as I revisit it most often. There’s just so much flexibility afforded to the player. It’s the Souls game that says “yes” to the player and does a lot of unique and fun things. And for the record, all the bosses in Souls games are much easier when ganged up on. I just love the mood and setting that DS2 creates, and the DLC areas are fantastic. I can gush some more, but it’s time for work! Peace!
@AlphaElite I love how even in Dark Souls, one of the first achievements is awarded for obtaining the Estus Flask, which is literally handed to you without doing anything other than progressing normally.
I'll take ancient, head-scratching obtuseness that made you actually think over all the hand-holding you mentioned, as well!

Re: UK Doctors Can Now Refer Young Patients To Be Treated For Video Game Addiction
@Jayenkai Game addiction is the disorder, not game playing.
Re: UK Doctors Can Now Refer Young Patients To Be Treated For Video Game Addiction
@Heavyarms55 What does any of that have to do with addiction, a trait buried in someone’s genes?

It's really interesting that people who spent $300 on Nintendo hardware think that an $8 stylus is expensive.

@Razieluigi Nice edit
Re: A Standalone Nintendo Switch Stylus Is Launching This December In Japan
@Zequio Uh, for a touch-capacitive stylus, that's the cheapest on the market.
