I love the original Zelda game, but it took me over 20 years to beat the Second Quest. I still enjoy the game though, and I even have an NES cartridge copy, plus a working console. I just don't have a CRT TV to hook it up at the moment.
I never owned a ton of Switch games, and my failure to do the more sensitive moves often drove me mad. But otherwise, I was usually pleased with the technology. Nintendo did a very good job.
Whoever they get to play Link will need to maintain a sense of both bravery but also innocence with the character. Link isn't super-cocky like Maverick in the original Top Gun; he has a childlike worldview and a very strong sense of justice. These qualities are also why Princess Zelda trusts him so much.
I don't own a Switch yet, but I may have to save up for one, just to play this game. Mario has long been among my fave series, and this looks like an improvement on the classic formula in every way.
The original Zelda game was one of the best in its time, and not just for the NES. People were amazed by its vast Overworld, all the crazy dungeons, and the impressive items that helped you along the way. I still play it on occasion, and its just as much fun as when I was a kid.
It looks nice, but the price for these kinds of things are always too rich for my blood. I recently bought Christmas tree ornaments of both Sonic and Tails, so that will be enough for now in that regard.
I never played much of the original Star Fox, but I did enjoy the N64 version a lot, and was curious to see if they'd ever do another one in the same vein. Oh, well - maybe Nintendo will change their minds once their new console comes around.
Wow...that's a great poster, but it almost looks like Bowser's overcompensating. I wonder if Jack Black had some kind of deal with the studio, where his character had to take up half the poster.
I never did finish this one, but I remember enjoying it back in the day. I know they did a fairly-recent remake in the past few years, but I haven't played that - does anyone know if its any good?
I never bought an Amiibo, mainly because I never had the hardware or games capable of supporting it. The only use I'd ever have for them would be as display pieces, or Christmas ornaments.
I used to get so frustrated during my childhood playing NES games, that I'd hurl the controllers against the wall. I always took losing personally, like I was to blame for something unseen that was causing the problem. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's how I felt at the time. I guess I just expected too much of myself, because they were more than games to me.
I haven't played the Switch very much (the price point has been too rich for my blood). That said, I really want another console that connects to my TV. I recently bought a 65-inch HDTV, and having some games to play on it would be awesome. I'm not a big fan of the XBox or PlayStation systems, either.
This has even more footage than the first trailer did, and I was grinning ear to ear while watching it. It sucks that the movie doesn't come out until April, but hopefully it will be worth the wait.
I'm not into potty humor, so if Wario goes that way I'll be avoiding the movies that celebrate this. I expect better from Nintendo, than them catering to the lowest common denominator.
A billion and a half sales is pretty incredible, for a property over 30 years old. I haven't played any of the recent games in years, but I've enjoyed the two movies that have been made so far.
I don't see much of a resemblance between Felix and Mario, but maybe that's just me. If you gave Felix a mustache, then maybe it would be closer, but otherwise I think Mario's design is on-point.
I didn't hear enough in Chris' voice to have much of a comment. I can say that at this point, I'm still on the fence. Hopefully, another trailer will give us more of his voice work, and I can make a judgment call from there.
@Dragmire You and me, both. I was five years old when the NES first came out, and didn't play Mario until I was probably eight since my folks couldn't afford the system at launch. That said, I adore Charles Martinet's voice work for Mario, and so I'm conflicted about Chris Pratt even though I like him as an actor.
@Sora181 The problem with that is that Charles Martinet's voice work for Mario has become almost as iconic as the character himself. There's whole generations which never played the earlier Mario games, and their first opinion was based on Super Mario 64.
I'm still not completely sold on Chris Pratt as Mario's voice, but the rest of it looks impressive. I'm surprised they didn't show Princess Peach though; maybe they're saving her reveal for another trailer.
I picked the "gameplay device" option, because folks are seriously over-thinking this. She turns into a ball because its necessary to get where she needs to be - its that simple.
I don't recall taking my Gamecube outside of my home very often, if at all to be honest. That said, I think Nintendo probably had it at least on their minds, since they did stick a handle on the thing.
The Gamecube was one of the first systems I bought with my own money. I had spare cash from my college tuition at the time, so I bought a Cube and a GBA with a couple of games for each one. The one game that kept me glued to the Cube was the original Metroid Prime.
I was 11 years old when the SNES came out, and so I recall the madness of kids wanting it like crazy, myself included. I didn't get my own until 1997, but I played at friend's houses and whatnot, testing out my gaming skills. "A Link to the Past" remains one of the best games on the system, or any for that matter. I also enjoy "Super Metroid" and "Super Punch-Out".
@Zeldafan79 No, his first work was voicing an interactive image of Mario for trade shows around 1990, and then they used him for the game "Mario's Fun With Numbers", also known as "Mario's FUNdamentals". By that time, development was already underway for the N64, so they hired Charles to voice Mario for "Super Mario 64", and the rest is history.
With the movie in development, I'd long assumed Charles would have already signed up to voice Mario, since he's the main source for it in all the games since 1990.
I watched about 9 minutes of this two-hour behemoth, and overall it looks promising. The increased detail in the backgrounds was something I noticed right away, and the music was clearer than I remember too.
As a kid, "Zelda II" drove me completely insane. I hated it, but I also felt compelled to keep playing it. As an adult, I've beaten it several times, but its still a very tough game...especially the Thunderbird in the Great Palace.
As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo should have gone to Retro Studios in the first place. They made the original Prime trilogy so memorable, you'd think it would have been a foregone conclusion. I guess the heads at Nintendo don't always prefer the obvious, even if it works.
Well, this just sucks. The least they could have done was bother to translate every name directly into English from Japanese, and then find the closest words that mean the same thing where the direct translation didn't make any sense. How this got past Nintendo's quality control is truly beyond me; aren't they usually pretty good with that?
I watched the Super Show for a year I think, maybe less. It was around the same time as the original Zelda cartoons. I thought both were pretty good at the time, but they haven't aged well at all. By comparison, I still enjoy "The Wizard"...probably because the core story involves an autistic kid who's been severely traumatized, and my own history is fairly similar. I think too many people dismiss that film as a glorified Nintendo commercial, when there was an actual point to it.
I like others have said, its is WAY too early to make a judgment call about this. Nintendo has provided only the most broad information, i.e. "A movie is being made". We don't know if it will be live or animated (preferably the latter), we don't know who's in the cast (they better use Charles Martinet), and we don't know what the actual story will be. They could do almost anything; we just have to wait for more news.
@Blazinglegend16 The only 3D entry I've liked so far is "Ocarina of Time". I mostly prefer the older games with the top-view perspective, like the first two NES games and "A Link to the Past".
@Bass_X0 The SNES graphics will show up fine with a proper upscaler like the Framemesister, but that's not what I meant. The second game in the series is the one most people remember, whatever form it has currently taken. That's a very big legacy to honor, and if Capcom's not prepared they could easily screw it up. Just look at what they've done with Mega Man for that game's 30th anniversary...99% nothing.
Super Macho Man is definitely a challenging opponent...but I can't stop myself from laughing over the "bouncing man-boob" animation. Its just so funny, like Soda Popinski being pink.
