Re: Soapbox: It's Time For A Zelda 1 Remake, Please

I love the original Zelda game, but it took me over 20 years to beat the Second Quest. I still enjoy the game though, and I even have an NES cartridge copy, plus a working console. I just don't have a CRT TV to hook it up at the moment.

The original Zelda game was one of the best in its time, and not just for the NES. People were amazed by its vast Overworld, all the crazy dungeons, and the impressive items that helped you along the way. I still play it on occasion, and its just as much fun as when I was a kid.

Re: Talking Point: What Is The Most Frustrated You've Ever Been With A Video Game?

Moviefan2k4

I used to get so frustrated during my childhood playing NES games, that I'd hurl the controllers against the wall. I always took losing personally, like I was to blame for something unseen that was causing the problem. I know it doesn't make sense, but that's how I felt at the time. I guess I just expected too much of myself, because they were more than games to me.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser Trailer Is Finally Here

@Dragmire You and me, both. I was five years old when the NES first came out, and didn't play Mario until I was probably eight since my folks couldn't afford the system at launch. That said, I adore Charles Martinet's voice work for Mario, and so I'm conflicted about Chris Pratt even though I like him as an actor.

I was 11 years old when the SNES came out, and so I recall the madness of kids wanting it like crazy, myself included. I didn't get my own until 1997, but I played at friend's houses and whatnot, testing out my gaming skills. "A Link to the Past" remains one of the best games on the system, or any for that matter. I also enjoy "Super Metroid" and "Super Punch-Out".

Re: Charles Martinet Would Love To Voice Mario In Upcoming Illumination Movie

Moviefan2k4

@Zeldafan79 No, his first work was voicing an interactive image of Mario for trade shows around 1990, and then they used him for the game "Mario's Fun With Numbers", also known as "Mario's FUNdamentals". By that time, development was already underway for the N64, so they hired Charles to voice Mario for "Super Mario 64", and the rest is history.

Re: Nintendo Was "Kind Of Liberal" When It Came To Creating The Super Mario Cartoons

Moviefan2k4

I watched the Super Show for a year I think, maybe less. It was around the same time as the original Zelda cartoons. I thought both were pretty good at the time, but they haven't aged well at all. By comparison, I still enjoy "The Wizard"...probably because the core story involves an autistic kid who's been severely traumatized, and my own history is fairly similar. I think too many people dismiss that film as a glorified Nintendo commercial, when there was an actual point to it.

Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great

Moviefan2k4

I like others have said, its is WAY too early to make a judgment call about this. Nintendo has provided only the most broad information, i.e. "A movie is being made". We don't know if it will be live or animated (preferably the latter), we don't know who's in the cast (they better use Charles Martinet), and we don't know what the actual story will be. They could do almost anything; we just have to wait for more news.

@Bass_X0 The SNES graphics will show up fine with a proper upscaler like the Framemesister, but that's not what I meant. The second game in the series is the one most people remember, whatever form it has currently taken. That's a very big legacy to honor, and if Capcom's not prepared they could easily screw it up. Just look at what they've done with Mega Man for that game's 30th anniversary...99% nothing.
