Re: Weirdness: Fred Savage Seems Very Much In Favour Of The Nintendo World Championships 2015

Moviefan2k4

A lot of people hated this movie, but I really don't understand why. The bulk of the film has nothing to do with video games; that's just how it was marketed. Fred Savage's character was trying to prevent his autistic brother from being committed, and the games were to prove how smart he really was. There was lots of comedy and heart in the film, plus a surprise twist for why Jimmy himself (the younger brother) was so determined to reach California.

Re: Super Mario World Speedrun Record Is Broken

The shortest "regular play" path I know to beating the game is to finish World 1 normally, then access the Star Road from the Ghost House by the lower-right part of the lake. After that, its just a matter of beating a few stages of the Star World, until you reach the lower-right point which leads to Bowser's front door.

Re: The GameCube is 13 Years Old

Moviefan2k4

The only games I got heavily into with the 'Cube were the first two "Metroid Prime" entries, and "Spider-Man 2". "The Wind Waker" was crap; I only reserved it at the time to get the Master Quest disc for "Ocarina of Time". I also liked "Mega Man Anniversary Collection", but it just wasn't the same as having the old carts.

Re: Super Metroid is 20 Years Old Today

This is definitely still a classic; I bought my current copy for $20, from a retro-themed store about 5 years ago. The shell had dirt and stickers all over it, but the label was nice and clean. I took the whole thing apart, cleaned the circuit board, scrubbed the case parts with Comet and water, then reassembled everything. Its run perfectly ever since.

Re: Review: Double Dragon (3DS eShop / NES)

Moviefan2k4

Even though its equal parts fun and frustrating, I still love the original "Double Dragon" on the NES. The second game was arguably better, while the third sucked due to its massive difficulty level. "Double Dragon Advance" was a cool update for the GBA several years ago, while "Super Double Dragon" on the SNES is great. Avoid "Double Dragon V" though, unless you're a fan of the 1990s carton series.

Re: Prolific Video Game Box Art Illustrator Greg Martin Passes Away

Never heard the name, nor did I ever suspect those pieces of artwork were painted. I always assumed some studio head had them drawn with markers or colored pencils...seriously. Since I never knew Mr. Martin, I can only say I hope he's in heaven with God now, and that his family's being comforted in every way.

Re: Movie Review: The Wizard (1989)

I have this on DVD, and yes its a little corny, but still works. I love the fact that Haley's about as "anti-feminine" as you can get, without being mean. Corey tries scaring her with a skull mask at one point, only to be decked in the head for his trouble. =)
Watch the profanity please — TBD

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo Game Boy

Moviefan2k4

Let's be honest, shall we? The main reason the original Game Boy became a success at all was because it was bundled with "Tetris". Computer nerds who only knew the game from their desktops leaped at the chance to take it on the road, while the rest of us didn't even know it existed until the NES port was released in November of 1989.

I had this system as a kid, and yes, I loved "Tetris"...but that was about it. No other game held my interest, because of the blurry graphics and screen that only looked good when tilted toward a light source.

Re: Sega's Most Successful Console Is 25 Years Old Today

Moviefan2k4

For several years, I thought the Mega Drive was a completely different console from the Genesis, because I had no reason to think products had multiple names for different parts of the world. The main games I played on the console were all four "Sonic" titles and the "Streets of Rage" series. I was really surprised when "Mega Man: The Wily Wars" came out for the Sega Channel.

Re: Overlay Gives an Old NES Controller Some New Zelda Sleekness

Moviefan2k4

I checked out the GamerGrafx site, and was struck by how little is actually offered in their replacement label section for original NES games. So many carts are in terrible shape these days, and labels are desperately needed for the most abused copies.

Also, I'm amused at the section of TV and film labels, but why would anyone want something like that, for an NES game that doesn't exist? For example, there's one for "The Breakfast Club"...seriously.

Re: News Site Claims That Zelda "Takes A Dim View Of Workers, People Of Colour And Women"

Moviefan2k4

The guy who wrote that article is an idiot. While some traits are similar to different cultures, there's no direct correlation with any of them in the "Zelda" series, that I'm aware of. Also, one of the so-called "bad guys" (Nabooru) turns out to be the Sage of Spirit, helping Link defeat Ganondorf. Darunia also has brown skin, and remains an aide and "sworn brother" to Link through the whole game...funny how the author forgot about that.

The whole sexism bit is crap, too. Like it or not, most women are physically smaller and weaker than most men. We were designed to be their protectors, not abusers. Radical feminists always link (or it it Link?) dominance with oppression. =(

Re: Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo

@kkslider5552000 "Ocarina of Time" is still the best in the series for me. "Majora's Mask" was insanely repetitive, and I still can't get past grabbing the fishing rod in "Twilight Princess". I haven't played "Skyward Sword" yet, and the animation style for "Wind Waker" remains insulting.
