In Japan — just like any other part of the world — famous faces are often rolled out to promote various products or services. For Super Mario 3D World, NCL has selected Japanese singer, actress and all-round personality Aya Ueto to front its TV campaign for the game.
She's a good choice; easy on the eye, relatively famous and — possibly most important of all — able to play the game and make cat sounds simultaneously.
While we've got your attention, you might also like to see these other Japanese commercials for the game — although they sadly don't feature Ueto.

I am soooo angry with YouTube and Google right now.
I can watch these videos but even signed into my account and now forced to sign up to and connect a google+ account too, which I never wanted in the first place, I still can't see or post any comments.
It's a total joke on these services right now.
Thank God for simple intuitive sites like NintendoLife where you just sign up once and everything is kept nice and simple and does exactly what it says on the tin.
I actually really like how nice and clean these comments sections are and I hope you never fall for the whole crap with using stuff like Disqus, where it's far too clumsy and just lets the guy who posted first dominate all the comments, or the multiple different sign ups and accounts that Google now has or whatever because it's all convoluted garbage.
The game looks great by the way and there's some awesome hitherto unseen stuff in these videos.
What we're about to witness in the coming months is the WiiU about to layeth the smackdown on the industry and send haters flying over the turnbuckle
I love Aya Ueto ever since Azumi! Swear she doesn't age .
@MadAussieBloke
I highly doubt it.
The game looks brilliant but one or two big games for the holidays is not much to go up against two totally brand new truly next-gen consoles launching with lots of big AAA first and third party games and broad appeal with all their multi-media functionality and social media integration etc.
I don't know how much of an impact the Wii U will actually have this Christmas but I can't imagine it doing particularly well against the behemoths this holiday season.
Mario is good but I'm not sure he's THAT good.
♥_♥
@Emblem She's 28.
WiiU has heaps of tried and tested awesome games while the PSCRASHBOX41 has last gen looking stuff that nobody really cares for
I have no idea who she is or what she's saying, but I can't stop watching.
3D World looks like a fun game, if there was a good enough deal, I'd consider a Wii U, if they just create a proper accounts system, more VC, a new Zelda, a new Metroid and F-Zero. I have a PS3 which has some great games, but I'm not rushing out to buy PS4 anytime soon, my approach to the next gen is 'wait and see' before buy.
Mama Mia She's hot o_o
@Kirk Don't doubt the Mario sir.
How long has he been around?
@Kirk Same here mate, spent many hours last night trying to sort it. Worse part is I actualy make videos on youtube and cant reply to any of my subscriptions. Its very VERY annoying.
On a plus note though my uk copy of arkham origins has just popped through the post so im guna take out my anger on some thugs!
@Kirk Ive preordered ps4,but to be fair theres only killzone thats the big exclusive, xbone has forza and deadrising,but to be frank mario tops all three in terms of brand power. So that mad old aussie may be right. We can hope at least!
Beautiful girl playing a beautiful game!
Can't decide what i'm most excited about now... the game or the girl?
MadAussie is always right. He's the Anti Pachter of the World.
I WANT TO START A MOVEMENT TO GET NICK CAGE AS NINTENDO OF AMERICA'S SPOKESPERSON! WHOSE WITH ME???
@Mrclaycoat You can count me in on the Cage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5QfJDmlUdU
@ajcismo I cant either...
Nintendo needs to get a western-hot-famous woman like her to do some comercials like this for the US and EU
After 1 year I havent seen a single wii U comercial on TV here in Europe, XMas is getting close WTF r they waiting for?
"Almost too cute"
Yes. Yes she is.
She kind of looks like Kristen Kreuk, only w/ talent and a personality.
Important question - where can I buy those hand puppets?
Japanese commercials always sound funny. There's lots of new stuff in those last 2 videos too.
@SanderEvers did you really have to rub it in so hard?
@Kirk I never sign in for youtube or google and never will.
That Koopa carnival at the start of the last video looks intense! One of the best TV spots, so far.
With ads like these, it really is a great thing that Nintendo advertises its games
The Wii U had a rough 2013, but I think it's now starting to pick up.
I think my heart just melted! <3
Cant stop watching! nya
Lovely woman
Those new levels are nice too.
@MadAussieBloke whilst i;m not completely convinced that the Wii U will issue a flying chair shot off the top of the hell in cell to the competition this holiday season, I do love a professional wrestling reference. Kudos good sir!
That was amazing. Now Nintendo should get Kate Upton or some other celebrites to help advertise the game!
PERFECT CHOICE NINTENDO!!!!!
@Kirk they buy Youtube, what do you expect?
preorder from to day.
@LDXD
Yes but that's exactly why they are going to sell gangbusters this Christmas and the Wii U probably isn't.
What the Wii U needs right now, even as much as more games to be honest, is a crap load of hype.
At least that hype will lead to more sales which in turn will lead to more games and that's exactly what the other consoles are going to have in abundance from where I'm looking.
@letsplay
Well unfortunately because I am a small indie developer I've had to set up a YouTube account to post videos of my games or whatever and so now I'm basically stuck in this garbage.
@Kirk Honest question here: what exactly are those big AAA titles? Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Watch_Dogs? All on Wii U too, and perhaps more importantly, all available on PS3 and Xbox 360.
I'm really not feeling those launch lineups. No game looks like a system seller to me. IGN is touting Resogun, a digital-only game, as the best launch exclusive for the Playstation 4, for crying outloud. The Xbox One seems even worse, since its biggest "exclusive" (Titanfall) only comes next year, and will also be available on PC and Xbox 360.
If I had to bet, I'd say that one year from now, when the launch hype has died down, both consoles will be struggling. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
@ricklongo
The difference is that most of the third party games will get the core gamers excited on those other consoles but not on Wii U because on Wii U they see them as basically ports of the current-gen Xbox 360 or PS3 versions but with slightly higher quality textures, which for the most part they are.
Also, if we look at the day one and "launch window" games for each console there's:
Drive Club, Infamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa 14, Just Dance 2014, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Madden 25, NBA 2K14, NBA Live 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Skylanders: Swap Force and over 20 indie games for PS4.
That's on top of the fact it's a brand new cutting edge next gen console, with multimedia and Blu-Ray playback as standard, extensive social media integration and is being hyped to high heaven.
Same goes for Xbox One that has:
Dead Rising 3, Fighter Within, Forza 5, RYSE: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon, Zumba: World Party, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa 14, Just Dance 2014, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Madden 25, NBA 2K14, NBA Live 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Skylanders: Swap Force and and bunch of indie games.
That's on top of the fact it's a brand new cutting edge next gen console, with multimedia and Blu-Ray playback as standard, extensive social media integration, full Kinect 2.0 integration and support in the box and is being hyped to high heaven.
That's vs. a one year old under powered console, with no built in physical multi-media functionality, not a lot of social media integration and virtually no hype whatsoever; with Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Mario & Sonic, Zumba Kids, Adventure Time and maybe a few other games I can't be bothered looking up.
The Wii U's first part library this Christmas is pretty good. It's third party support is ok but uninspired and unexciting, especially to anyone that isn't already excited for the system like most of the Xbox and Playstation fans and aren't in the slightest, and it's hype is through the floor.
I know what I'd be putting my money on being the big hit/s this Christmas if I were a gambling man.
@LDXD
I think people will upgrade simply because it's NEW and BIGGER and BETTER.
You know what people are like.
The hype for these consoles is through the roof and I simply don't see a few decent first party titles on Wii U seriously disrupting that.
Super Mario 3D World looks amazing but I don't see it making the kind of impact against the oncoming onslaught that I think a lot of the fanboys maybe think it's going to have.
I want the Wii U to do well but right now I just don't see how it's not going to get utterly blown away by the competition this Christmas.
Maybe I'll be pleasantly VERY surprised.
@Kirk don't underestimate the power of mario, Mario bros U sold 2.2 million, i can see this mario game selling over 4 million
@ScorpionMG
I think the game will sell very well indeed and be a great title in Wii U's arsenal, I mean it looks brilliant to me, but I'm not sure it's enough to really make much of a dent going up against the competition this Christmas.
by far GOTY2013!
looks stunning, with an attention to detail you only get with Nintendos games
@LDXD
If neither Sony nor Mircrosoft were doomed this generation with the systems they had then I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to assume either of their new systems will be doomed once the launch hype dies down to a more normal level.
Nintendo isn't just fighting a battle with itself. It's fighting a battle with two behemoths, more if we count the smartphones and tablets and even the upcoming Valve Steam Box potentially, and it's needs to take this war very seriously.
It's current situation with the Wii U should tell us all very clearly it needs to take this war very seriously indeed.
The last thing we need is for Nintendo to come in last this generation in terms of sales because even when it was in first place by a long way with the Wii it got mostly crap third party support for the system (that is now all but dead), whereas with the Xbox 360 and PS3 it's as strong as it's every been if not more so, and if the Wii U ends up in last place this time around I fear third support will be even worse than it already is and even worse than it was on Wii and that can only be very bad for everyone who gives a damn.
We should all want and indeed expect a lot more from Nintendo and the Wii U; if we really love Nintendo, it's consoles and it's games as much as we all act like we do.
@Kirk Even trying to analyse things by putting aside my personal views on which games I like to play (admittedly, a difficult task), I still don't see a killer app out of that list. Infamous and Forza are probably the closest when it comes to exclusives (since Titanfall isn't really an exclusive).
Like I said, many of the new games will have current-gen versions (a problem that is exarcebated on the Xbox). The vast majority of console buyers aren't like us; they dont have a daily routine of reading gaming news or browsing gaming forums, aren't as affected by the hype on those circles, and as such they REALLY don't feel a need to upgrade to a newer console day one. Both Sony and Microsoft have said they tend to support their current consoles for a couple of years still, which makes matter worse.
Also, for all the technical capabilities the new consoles boast, we all know the most capable machine has never won a generation, pretty much ever. That's because, like I said above, most people simply don't care about the nitty-gritty details. They want fun games first and foremost, which is why games, as always, will be the deciding factor on who outsells who.
@Kirk Also, about third party support: it's important, no one will deny that. But take a look at the 3DS resurgence. It was "doomed", it's definitely much less capable than the Vita from the hardware standpoint. And yet it took off. It's the best-selling console worldwide this year. And look at which games made that turnaround possible: Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros 2, Mario Kart 8, Ocarina of Time 3D, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Pokémon, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, soon A Link Between Worlds. All first-party.
If Nintendo manages to provide the Wii U with a similar string of AAA first-party releases, why wouldn't it be capable of beating technically superior adversaries? Isn't that exactly what the 3DS did?
@ricklongo
All the general gaming/entertainment type masses have to see is shiny adverts showing them a brand new consoles with a crap load of the titles they know and love, telling them it's vastly more powerful and capable, comes with full multi-media support, full social media integration and is the next big thing they just have to have to be part of the cool crowd and a very large number of them will find themselves floating towards the nearest game store...
There's a massive difference between the 3DS and Wii U year one situations; 3DS was doing bad...compared to the most successful handheld of all time, soon to be the most successful console of all time (handheld or home), and Wii U is the slowest selling Nintendo console of all time (excluding the Virtual Boy). One needed a bit of kick in the *rse and the other needs a bit of a miracle right about now.
@LDXD
Wii U is the lowest selling home console in it's first year in Nintendo's history:
http://www.gamnesia.com/news/wii-u-is-nintendos-slowest-selling-console-ever-bar-virtual-boy
If there was ever a reasonable time to start crying out 'doom and gloom' then it might as well be now.
I don't think Nintendo is "doomed" anyway but I think the Wii U is, and it really is, in serious trouble right now.
@LDXD
Nope, it would still be having very clear and obvious issues that everyone is aware of.
All the stats, reports and whatever else are just great for making the point extremely clear and indeed clear cut.
Wii U needs a forklift to get it out of the hole it's in.
@LDXD
Well we will see but right now I'd put money on Wii coming in last this gen and all the problems that come with that in conjunction with being an under powered and under featured console that already lacks great third party support as it is.
My eyes are sparkling.
@MadAussieBloke @Mrclaycoat
I'm Brittish but COUNT ME IN! OMG please let this happen XD
Also thanks Aussie that was an instand facebook share
@AyaUeto- Marry me? O_O
We need more Aya Ueto.. 😻
I need those puppets. I need them now.
Haha she's so cute.
@Mrclaycoat Give the cute girl an English script and bring this to the U.S.A! Also. Nick guy for your spokesperson!!
I think Rolf Harris should be the Wii U UK Celebrity.
Haha, you can tell when she's concentrating on the game because she bring the gamepad closer to her body. Her face is epic when she's playing as Toad.
@Memeboy3 Simply have an english speaking announcer at the start and end of the video :")
I noticed she said jump in English. Wonder if any other English words are used by the Japanese?
She makes me feel funny, like when I climb the rope in gym class.
FUN FACT: Ueto Aya referred to Toad as "Kinopio", which is the Japanese name for the Toad race, as well as Toad himself.
@Ristar42: Good news! At least one of your Wii U-related wishes is in the process of being granted! There is a brand-new Legend of Zelda game currently in the works for Wii U which may be finished and on store shelves sometime next year.
Meow!
@GamerZackX I hope they wait for the Wii U Zelda. So much is rushed by Nintendo these days.
(Maybe before there was extra time to work on the levels whilst the bugs were being worked out. As they couldn't be patched without replacing all the carts. All I know is there are far too many boring / not fun to play parts)
@LDXD
We see things very differently, clearly, because I actually expect Xbox One might just come in first this time around.
Well, if Japan weren't so against Xbox consoles for whatever reason but my instinct says it will still be ahead everywhere else if not Japan by the time the next generation comes to an end.
I guess we shall have to see who is right...
@Marshi the thing i miss most is all the flame wars and stuff didnt but i do
@Kirk ive heard its because theyre against american made things
@Kirk Microsoft is still not going in for the kill yet. It is always the same embrace / extend / extinguish.
@Yanchamaru Oh, there are MANY words that Japan borrowed from other languages, with English being the one they've borrowed from the most. I'm studying Japanese at the moment, and it's fun noticing the small details like these.
Also, I had already seen these commercials over at GenGame, but I still can't get over how cute she is. :3
We need good celebrity advertisements here in US too! TBH, we need some gangsters advertising the Wii U...
I don't wanna see little children or old people in advertisements
Finally something to make nintendo shine lately everyone has been kissing Sony, and Microsoft's butts just because of systems that hurt more then help.
Awww Japanese beauty, ain't nothing like it. These CM's are perfect. Nintendo is really stepping up the quality of their ad's lately.
@Yanchamaru
I listen to a lot of Japanese music and yeah, they use plenty of English words. Sometimes it's because there isn't a Japanese equivalent but most of the time it's just to sound cool. It appears to be trendy with the youth there to have English words and phrases on T-shirts and hats.
@Kirk Look why do sales mean so much, as long as nintendo make a profit and sell enough wiiu's to be happy and keep making games like mario 3d, zelda etc then thats fine by me. Theres waaay to much stock been put into sales here,it annoys me that if a game sold .5 mil more than the competition it instantly means its a much superior game. So by that logic, EA make the best games ever. What? They dont?
EXACTLY
@Kirk
nuff said
@Thats-what-she
bet you love that
@MadAussieBloke ...and that's the bottom line... coz MadAussieBloke says so!
if they market this well it could really sell 10 million wii u
Awwwwwwwwwwww.... :3
