All examples WOULD be considered day one for me but the factors below change my want to purchase day one….as well as an insane backlog and the actual amount of games available across all platforms already available considered as well (when available across all platforms Nintendo gets my money first ONLY because physically complete on a cartridge is an option (looking at you cyberpunk 🙌)! Did I need cyberpunk on switch….nope…. I’ve beat it twice years ago…but they did it right.

Day 1 purchase Physical cart in box complete w/no dl required. free upgrade dl for switch 2 should be expected as well if on both and only physical on one of the two switches. Wanna sell even more… what about them instructions manuals. (Day one no brainer if it’s got a manual…. HubbaDUH! Or a map even!!?! How’s about y’all throw in an exclusive Pokémon card or two in every pokeman release IN THE GAME BOX… not stupid pre order crap that ya can’t get your hands on lol. You would sell games to people that don’t even own a console lol.
Key card/large dl required extra (Depending on game (GTA5/6?) maybe day one but probably first physical sale)……. However I could see myself waiting so long that I pick it up on sale for very cheep years later physically or digitally because no mater how you wanna package it and sell it….It’s not complete with a large DL… to me atleast…. I got enough to play.
Code in a box…. Never will be considered. lol you think I’m gonna collect a sealed code? That’s amateur smoke right there and the employee that thought that one up needs to be fired. Quite frankly Key Card is basically the same…. Never gonna considered it unless it’s an absolute banger….. even then most the stuff ends up on ps plus or Xbox subscriptions. So then I’ll have it anyways. No need ever for a code in a box. Honestly if you release a game as a code in a box you mise well just drop the price to 15-20$ cuz the longer you wait the more you’ll loose.
If I walk into the store Thursday and there is magically Donkey Kong as a Key Card or a code in a box and that’s sitting next to Red Dead Redemption 2 complete on cartridge…. I picking RDR2. Not because I don’t think DK won’t be amazing but because I simply want to hold it and think how did they fit it all in here.
By not buying a code in a box game… does that hurt “physical” sales? I’d assume so…. So many companies are gonna shoot themselves in the foot this generation and Nintendo is gonna just plug along like…. Hey guys what’s the problem…. Everything’s good on our end.
Developer's…. This gen is probably the last chance for your games to live forever physically in the real world….Not only that…. But live forever on a Nintendo console capable of difficult non kiddy games and graphics. This is something many 80s kids dreamed of our entire lives…. Now you can remake our childhood favorite games beautifully for the last time ever physically on a Nintendo system on a cartridge. That will be played , displayed, shared and passed down to our kids. You are seriously in charge of putting out the last games ever physically and you have an option presented to you to be able to have your game live forever and be handed down….. or a code in a box that is nothing more then digital dust in the matrix. We true collectors see the cash grab for what a code in a box is….. too me it’s a free from subscriptions digital game I’ll get eventually get down the road.
I and I’m sure many people my age have waited our entire lives for a Nintendo capable of a game like cyberpunk. How about you as developers realized that in 20 years when people are going thrifting can score Nintendo games they can actually play and holds its value (even if it is a trash game) your creation can live on and not be just an empty case. Tony hawk deserves so much more then a code in a box….. where’s nba jam by the way… would be fun with some new school players ha.
This was gonna be a day one for me on switch 2 over all other consoles I own…..lol code in a box switch 2…. Not even a key card…. I think the birdman himself would have a lil pice of his heart break to find a code in a box. I picked it up read the box and put it down and just walked back out. I really do think some game companies don’t like money. Sometimes you gotta spend more to make even more and I think the games that will live on forever from the switch eras will be games that are complete on carts. I can see grand kids popping in cyberpunk to a super old switch 2 to see what it was like back before digital took everything. lol not a code in a box switch?!??! After seeing comments I see there is a physical switch 1 cartridge. With that said has anyone put one into the switch 2 yet? Is there a free upgrade path or like a small fee? Like that of hogwarts Or botw? Idk why companies do this…. SPECIFICALLY for a nostalgic game like this… like do you not know your audience? Im sure this game will be amazing but I’ll pick it up down the road after I figure out the physical route. If anything by Christmas time this year or next half price when they are trying to give the game away. Gtfooh code in a box lol pshhhh. This gen I’m only buying physical…. With emphasis on compatibility for both switch 1&2 if possible with free glow ups on switch 2. There are far too many games out there to pay day one prices for a code 😂…. Honestly I should finish THPS 1&2 still 😂. So disappointed by this. Absolutely not disappointed by episode one of dexter resurrections… on to episode 2 and not THPS 3&4….. just yet.
What’s the switch advantage…. Them lil physical FULL game carts. Got me to double dip on cyberpunk day one… and I even play it on a ps portal and finished it twice. If it was a code in a box…. Sorry not for me….at least for full price even if it’s a great game. On the fence on key cards…. I’ll pick up street fighter 6 when it’s inevitably on deep discount someday and see what keycards are all about. Mortal Kombat please do it right. Rockstar please do it right. Anything not full on cart will never be a day one purchase. Only grip on the physical…. I love the red case from the outside…. But you can’t see the box art on the inside very well. But whatever…. I turn the box art inside out for games in progress so I’ll see it anyways.
As far as battery life…. From a 100% charge I've gotten in 20races 3 different times in Mario kart world (so 5 full cup races in 1 session (20 races) x 3 different times(60total))….full brightness…volume 3/4 volume. After the 20 race session my hands got tired so it was a good time to end. All 3 times from 100% charge I was left with between 31-33% battery remaining. I felt it was more than enough time for a good session and I could have gone 2-3 (8-12races) more full cups longer each time I think with the remaining battery life. So from a full charge I’d suspect 28-32 races back to back skipping cut scenes. That’s alot of battery really. I’ve yet to open cyberpunk.
Absolutely LOVE the kickstand….. you can position the console sooooooo many ways when ya go split joycon. I could never prop my switch 1 at an angle before and get it to stay put. Now I can set it down on my couch at any angle and the stand has so much range I can find a perfect angle from about any position for how I like to play handheld. You can almost hook the stand to a pillow for a sturdy diagonal angle too 😂.
Do these brilliant assumptions come with the realization retailers don’t stock new games anymore unless it’s a huge title. There are about 8 games last year I did not purchase that I wanted simply because the only way to get anything is preordering. I can’t go to a shop anymore and get what I want. It’s all special order in advance for any physical games that aren’t Mario, Sonic, ea sports or popular war shooter titles. Don’t get me started on GameStop either…. A “new” game should never be sold as new if it’s already opened. I refuse the purchase from them online as new titles always come shipped opened. Then with prices as crazy as they are really…. By the time there is a sale nothing is there in stock anyways and nothing is ever restocked anymore. It’s not the players. It’s calculated moves from the industry and retailers trying to force this shift to happen. Probably for convenience and reduce theft and make space. Nonetheless when physical goes so do I.
It would be so awesome if Nintendo just shadow drops the system with no direct. Just one day a Mario and Mario kart game show up on the shelf next to a Pokémon and Zelda game and the system is there fully in stock. (Not available for purchase online and only 1 per family week 1 of in store sales only)

I think how Hogwarts spells can be assigned and you can page between 3 pages of different favorites you can assign 4-6 favorites a page would be nice. However…………. We have all visited the eShop….. pretty sure organized menu options is not a priority at Nintendo.
I own this physically… I downloaded the expansion and it fails to recognize the game being owned on the cart (yes the cart is in… it is however a Japan import and I am in the US. I’m guessing that’s the issue. I hope some kind of patch will come to let me give this game a spin. Looks super fun though.
Wow what a disappointment. I was so very much looking forward to this collection day one. Not even close to a whiff of a purchase now if ever. Maybe when it’s 9.99 on sale digital but I won’t wanna waste the space or money for the download by then and I’ll be on switch 2 and gta 6 by the time that price hits(and probably free on better looking platforms)….I can flip and floop a few hdmi connections and play the games if I wanna today. I really don’t understand how the game industry does not realize the huge demographic they are going to loose when they all go digital. Heck maybe the reviews come in at 4s it would still be day one. Stuff just is not to me if I can’t hold it in my hands. I will buy maybe 2 games a year digital… if it goes that way and they will only be only HUGE titles. Ah well…. I keep all my games now as an adult….but perhaps people are figuring out you can sell for the same amount as GameStop (assuming Game is basically the same as GameStop) is selling retail used, all by yourself on eBay… instead of a only few bucks for them in trade that they will turn and will make 500-1000% profit on. As a used game buyer… I can still buy used cheeper on eBay AND I know what it will look like as in the packaging. I was so upset buying Astral Chain and Octopath used for a large price and GameStop shipping it in a generic black boxes with just the games words typed on white GameStop paper. Returned that so quick it wasn’t even funny. It’s their own problem no one is buying or selling at these places. It’s the greed of the companies… lol power to the player they say…. More like giving the players the shaft. Before Covid most preorders of good limited stuff goes to the employees as soon as it’s available and is held until their friends buy it off them they then turn it online for a profit. Saw this happening weekly as I visited often. lol this one GameStop guy in a different town allowed me to snag his preorder monster hunter amibo set that I had to still pay for…. It costed me one of my 2 dark souls. lol dint even know the guy. This one time I was chatting with an employee as they were taking maps and inserts out of used games to keep lol. They were just like we just toss it anyways so I take it and sell it online. So yeah…. I absolutely understand why people avoided used game store chains… why to much greed and now they prey on the players.

Lol do I need all the assassin’s creed games on Nintendo…. Not at all (specially when I have free ones I’ve been given digitally from PlayStation over the years that I have yet to boot up ever)…. But that game on a little cart… as the kids would say… hits different on a switch when I pop it in. Mario Wonder and Red Dead (finally physical)… I need to add. I was console only before the switch… but now when playing switch I am probably a 99% of the time handheld player.
I just put it on the tv because I wanted to see Mario Wonder on the big screen… Red Dead is last game I played and I am blown away…absolutely beautiful.
I can’t believe I’m playing it on a Nintendo. I’m excited to check out a whole bunch of other games on the big screen. Litterly feels like I have a new console….

Seriously been having the conversation with friends recently… when physical media goes away for gaming I might pick up a system and I’d probably only ever buy maybe 1 game a year (major only new games of Mario,Zelda,GTA6, ect…). I would save money but it’s gonna be disastrous for the industry I feel.
One of the most exciting parts of a console reveal for me is what the media will be on… disc or cart (or some fancy new unknown storage technology) and what the packaging will look like. These switch carts to me are literally like catching Pokémon or collecting coins in the wild on release day (I went to 3 towns and six stores before I found red dead physical last week).
That’s part of the memories made for me with physical gaming. Gotta collect um all or atleast the cool ones I wanna play again.
With that said there is a 100% chance I would not be playing red dead if it was digital only… or any other rerelease for that matter. A digital collection is something I’ll never understand.
That’s what really shook up the world with Napster, limewire, Pirate Bay, ect…. When life started moving digital it was a free for all…quite frankly I think the gaming industry is far behind in this realm. I would expect there is going to be a huge uptick in pirating when physical is nonexistent.
Huge drop in sales and huge spike in pirating I’d predict. I’m only playing most of my games I own because I own them and can hold them in my hands. When it’s digital only (personally I have a nice back log so I’d be fine for a long time), but if I were younger. I would not care on console brands anymore. I’d want the one I could crack easily and fill with digital games. Half of gaming is physical for me… take that away and it will get boring fast. I like standing up and finding a game and putting it in. Without that I just scroll the digital library like I do with Netflix choices.
Edit…..This rant comes after seeing the bare bones gaming areas at Best Buy, Target and the Walmart guy who told me the physical gaming area will do away with Xbox physical early in 24’ and have only a small area for PlayStation and Nintendo…. All the while gamestops trying to sell me “new items” that they have gutted to display…. When every other case on the wall is the generic white with word. Blah… ha
Just watched the Haunted Chocolatier trailer… I retract my statement above… I’m now firing up stardew because hearing whatever pop out of the whatever in the chocolatier trailer made me wanna farm some diamonds 😂 bring on 1.6 such a perfect fall/winter game.
When’s that wonka potter chocolate factory stardew game comming? I try to jump back into this game but an unhealthy amount of hours later I just can’t haha. If there was online cross play between gens and all consoles I would… but yeahhhhhhhh… outstanding game but yeahhhhhhh stardew is stardew and will always rank way way up but any update to me is still stardew. But I completely understand why updates will continue for life haha but phew it exhausts me thinking of more check lists and tasks haha. Stardew chocolate factory wizard stuff though. Sounds fantastic sign me up.
I have a feeling the “Switch 2” is going to launch with the best lineup of launch titles in the history of any system ever. If Switch 2 was really shown off two years ago I’m guessing a lot of companies shifted gears for major AAA titles (ports or brand new) to a more powerful backwards compatible system where they would not have to start from scratch but have the tools and options to improve an already far along title in development.
Would be a heck of a lot more if people didn’t have to wait for physical copies eventually for everything now days. By the time the physical even releases I wonder if I am even interested for a lot of these physical games in the pipeline that already have been out for weeks to months… kinda a assbackwards strategy for companies now days. I just saw FF pixel remaster hit like 3mil…. It would have been off the charts for 49.99 physical world wide (I’d guess 15-20mil). Everyone is getting way too greedy I feel. Thinking you’re gonna sell more digital only is crazy thinking or delaying a physical release to milk people who can’t wait is only shooting yourself in the foot as the anticipation is overshadowed by other must have games that come out correctly day one by the time the delayed physicals even come out (looking at you Mario wonder a game I need zero percent but will get day one because I can hold the new Mario in my hands) Also so over priced is every game. Lots of these games would have sold millions upon millions more if they came out for $39 instead of $49-69. Inflation is one thing and understandable, however I feel greed is driving the wheel of lots of entertainment hobbies and events now days. The decision to up these prices take away from max profits and numbers. It’s like the people that do the maths don’t understand maths and what would simply be a better business model… selling a lot more for a fraction less out the gate…Anyways sorry… just still waiting on pikmin 1&2 (should be $29 day one digital and $39 day one physical. red dead (should be $39 day one digital and $49 day one physical) and this game idk what it cost but I say $49 new small guy game. But if ya drop this physical day one for $39-49 and I bet you’re around 2-4 million week one. Specially after the reviews. Anyways. This game looks fantastic… I’ll play it day one… when I can hold it in my hands and help bump them sales numbers up a bit for um. When I no longer can physically hold the game that needs to be put in the console will be the day gaming dies for myself and probably the majority of the spenders. Again this game looks great… just getting tired of waiting for a whole bunch of great games because of a plethora of not so wise strategies from marketing and sale. I think if this game came out physically day one as digital with all preorders for physical same day one you could easily have added a zero to the sales total of week 1… I just hope the momentum of hype doesn’t die by the time the other game players are able to fire it up haha when I can pop that card in the switch.
So I was just stuck in a menu loop on a game on NES (can’t tell ya what one)… why… because I can’t read it ha. This Nintendo drop makes the PS Plus drop today look like gold. However it’s irrelevant to me as the Zelda and Pokémon drops are still keeping me plenty busy with the switch online.
I wish they had like a 2 hour intro demo that would carry over to the people waiting on physical. As far as price…I say it will drop to $29.99 within 6-12 months after physical release I’d guess as being the trend of almost everything haha…. Or around the time GTA 6 is getting very close to hype it up. That video looks beautiful on the switch. Very excited to mosey around. Until then imma keep enjoying this trilogy no one likes that has been amazing since day one (physically) haha. Oh and for the RDR Switch players playing…. How are the controls now compared to the original? I found the control updates in the trilogy to be a game changer for me as compared to the OG games. Wish I dint have to wait for physical but eh currently so hooked on Pokémon gameboy card game and then the two Zelda’s…. and the trilogy ha. Too many games haha
This game is brilliant. Never played any Pokémon until the switch. No clue about any of it but slowly learning over time. Not the most difficult to comprehend however all the combination of paper rock scissors and evolutions is overwhelming when ya didn’t get in from the ground floor and collect the cards. I have been playing the intro trainer guy for the past few hours and have learned more in this time then all the other Pokémon games on the switch I’ve played. Nintendo/Pokémon people need to remaster this game so badly. Like put every available Pokémon card in real life into that game. All can be unlocked in game and used to make decks… when new sets come out in real life…. You can get it in game too How is this game not already made…. I have not even left the intro room and yeah…. Good stuff

@johnedwin pikmin 1&2 in the eshop is 49.99 so 25 each… red dead got zombies… I never had that with my OG copy of it on ps3. So it’s kinda like two as your math leans to ya being alittle…. I really think these rockstar ports have always been more about getting these games on the Nintendo. Then yeah slap it on a ps4/5, Xbox whatever and make it playable and get more money. BUT thinking about the company… they probably make more money in shark cards for gta5 even today than any or these ports will make them. I’m thankful it’s on a switch…. And that’s the only way I’d ever buy it. Even if it was “remastered” I’d still be switch only for me. I guess if others are butthurt for the other systems so be it…. @Joeynator3000 Pikmin 1 & 2 (round about just as old) just came out digital for the same price…. and will be getting picked up physically for me when it release next month. This site gave it an 8/10 but is a “bare bones port” Rockstar or take two or whoever is doing the exact same thing as Nintendo but they get crucified but Nintendo gets thanked for having all the games available. Idk all I know is I’m excited for this game… more excited for GTA 6. But this will do for now.

I don’t understand the complaining. I just don’t. Basically the greatest system ever is getting some of the greatest games ever seven years deep into its life cycle… when only people that frequent this site AND the journalists stir the pot demanding new stuff and that nothing is ever good enough. I don’t need a new switch… I need more time to complete what I already got. The trilogy has been fantastic since day 1…. But I had gta 3 day one in the way back…. So I knew what to expect (It’s nostalgic when cars just appear on the horizon to some people). Just finished up Vice City not to long ago and now on San Andreas. I have a PS5 but this Red Dead will be added to my physical switch collection day 1. Why… because this lil ol Nintendo… it’s the best system ever… and the preservation of some of the best games ever have slowly been becoming available on it. It just keeps growing and growing…. I would have to go find a ps3 to replay this…. And sit In frount of a tv…But now I can just switch and Netflix. I don’t see the problem…

Yeah this will not be a day one purchase if I don’t snag a collector edition… and I’m even on the fence on that. It will be 40-50 by Black Friday. I will probably be to busy with Harry Potter till then anyways.
These price increases for games on a system a lot of people think is at the end of its lifecycle is ridiculous by the way. I think the switch is around halfway now…. And for $70-80 for a new game (on day one mind you)… no one is convincing Nintendo to change the formula any time soon…. Lol Nintendo is scalping the scalpers or taking from the rich ya could say… but also in a way punishing people/ exploiting people that can’t wait and need stuff asap. Kinda funny really…. Got such a back log this game may have to wait till it’s on sale for regular price baha.

Ha… I was waiting to pick this game up someday when it goes on a deep discount sale($10-15$)Now that I know it never will be….It has now turned into a physical or bust game for myself. I’m guessing I’ll never play it now unless the demo can really sell me on it. But still… I ONLY by digital on sale…. So yeah looked fun to me but no thanks.
@parkerthon everything you said and worry about is precisely the reason for Nintendos success. I just googled top 100 games of all time and just glanced at the top 10 and 5 are Nintendo exclusives on an ign list. And for a fact since snes Nintendo hardware has always been considered a step below or behind everyone else in the gaming world and this is the same discussion that has been occurring since I was a child. It’s like a dog chasing it’s tail type of argument. Their old mentality is why perfection is achieved. I love when I pop in a 2-3 year old switch game that I have yet to open. I turn it on and the Nintendo and the game has zero updates and it good to go out the box years later. All that other stuff you speak of it has nonstop updates and improving. Nintendo does it right the first time and plays by their own rules. If they changed and kept up with the Jones they would be pumping out tons of Mario and Zelda games as fast as COD games and EA sports games but they would all be average at best and they would never that….. oh yeah and there is just one more thing style of doing magical business like that of Steve Jobs. And as far as cloud gaming goes. They will loose all my support atleast for 3rd party games if the games are digital. That’s my own bias, but to not be able to resell or barrow my copy to a friend or trade a copy or just simply hold it in my hand. yeah digital is a nice and tidy concept and ya wont loose your stuff or break it. But it has zero value because well it’s just digital. Ya can’t resell your copy of a game that ya don’t like back to GameStop for credit. When you buy a car and drive it off it looses value…. When you open a physical game it looses value…. When you buy digital… it had zero value besides the fun. Part of the fun of Nintendo is collecting Nintendo.
As of right now I’m debating between hogwarts on switch and ps5. I know ps5 is gonna be superior in all aspects… but holding that little NINTENDO switch cartridge in my hand checks a box in my brain that trumps graphics and having to sit at a tv and a cheep disc can’t compete with.

I got my nephew a switch and breath of the wild the first year for Christmas. After a week he was like this game is trash…. It doesn’t even look real… he plays a lot of gta and pc gaming…. He is a teen…. His brain does not understand masterpieces don’t equal most lifelike….. if Nintendo played by everyone else’s rules Nintendo would turn into a third party developer and not be the dreamers and game changers like they are. Nintendo invents…. All the other gaming places use Nintendo’s ideas and improve it/expand on it. Being ahead my not look like it to people only looking at what’s visible In 5 years cloud gaming may take over… but the only way you will be able to play 50% of the best games ever made and to be made is still gonna be only on a Nintendo console and however they feel fit for you to play it…. Because Nintendo evolves the game for everyone else… it might just not look as pretty.
@JazzyBeat A majority of games on all systems run poorly when they first come out now days. We live in a world of instant gratification and wining and complaining when stuff is not constantly dropping or perfect. There was a time in life when ya never knew if a follow up was comming and you would hope for a drop of info for years to be published in a EGM magazine in hopes of a follow up to whatever amazing game or system a person was hopping for… and even when such hint was dropped it would only be a paragraph long and no more news for a few more years. What makes Nintendo so outstanding is they March to the beat of there own drum and make people wait until whatever they are working on is perfected. However in todays world of instant gratification and sites like this where people can voice their own opinions I’m sure Nintendo has a staff that is solely assigned to read social media posts and report to the big shots what the people want. Now when a leak is made or a game is revealed they have committed themselves to meeting deadlines…. For example the new Pokémon games…. Buggs and all….. now if you were living in in the past….. it would be much easier to delay something a full year to prefect it because only they know it needs more time AND they would not hear the peanut gallery (us consumers) popping off about oh Nintendo sucks because stuff is delayed and I’m taking my money elsewhere because sites like this did not exist. All developers know ya can drop something now days when it’s close enough and tweek it over its lifespans with updates over the internet. Back in the day game had to be perfect day one…. Now not so much. So it is us the consumers fault for pressuring developers to release piles of crap when they are not fully cooked.
With all that said….. the switch is a cash cow and it is basically a hand held (game boy)and home (nes) console that is cataloging the greatest hits of the past 20-30 years all in one place. Nintendo knows this and there is zero reason…. Yes ZERO reason for Nintendo to feel any pressure to announce or show off a new system anytime soon. I would bet maybe in 3 or 4 years a new named stystem will be announced and a year to two later be in the wild. But I’m sure there are so many games in the switches pipeline that the next 3-4 years are already planned out…. So we get breath of the wild 2 soon…… when the highly anticipated botw3 is already being talked about a month after 2 comes out….. we will see a 3 on the next system. (Hopefully switch 2 where it can be backwards compatible and easily switch between handheld, tv and VR goggles… so Botw3 will be a launch game in 5 years on switch2 and in VR. And guess what….. the graphics are still gonna be crap compared to the PlayStation 6 and no one is ever happy unless you appreciate what’s physically in your world right now and marvel at how amazing all gaming systems are currently.
They should be hesitant… If it’s not backwards compatible (digital and physical) then I would be in no rush because my backlog is that jammed. Also if it goes digital only… I might give up gaming and never buy it unless it’s something totally revolutionary (to be real probably for one or two games only causing all the other developers to jump ship). The switch is amazing and still has many many years left. I foresee the switch having new games made for it many years after new hardware releases if it goes in a different direction. And I think that’s why backwards compatibility is so important as well. I think 1/2 the reason why switch is so successful is because it takes cartridges. I would not by half the games I have if it were digital only or on discs for that matter. The physical carts are just cool. Mortal kombat cart, night trap cart, cowabunga turtles cart…. The list goes on and on… Nintendo would be crazy if they shift from the switch even in 5 years time. Yeah graphics arnt that of next gen….. but it’s the system I think everyone dreamed of as a kid… and all them games just keep comming. I’m sitting here still waiting on golden eye to drop…. Like I don’t care about future stuff cuz there is too much amazing stuff on switch… where’s a real fallout game. Like if Nintendo pushes something new all the developers they have won’t be on board…. Why switch it up when it’s currently perfect…. The only thing I think I’d want would be a switch 2 with backwards compatibility….. ya know able to make next gen graphics but still all the same otherwise.
I liked the original one because it stood out amongst the other games and reminds me of the actual games… I also disliked the original one because it stood out amongst other games. Wonder why we as users can’t just assign our own icons… doubt it would be that revolutionary of an option to put into a system update…. But then I remember the online shop haha. Maybe it is difficult… Then I remembered the game is rad… and would rather play it than stare at the icon for hours pondering this question. Liked the old one more cuz it pops… but the new ones not bad cuz it don’t pop and blends in haha…. Bottom line is… the next time I put the game in and it updates…. I would have forgotten what the OG icon even was hahaha.
I was on the fence after the review. If I wouldn’t have picked this up at a deep discount over Black Friday…. A 15 min demo would have sold me…. 30-60min demo would be much better though… as I usually waste tons of time at the loading screen practicing my moves and forgetting to press the button to get the game going because even that is fun.

Am I or am I not now renting these for the cost of a new game a year with online services…. Pretty sure I had about all of these on cartridge’s at a point in time in life or two…. Lol it feel like I’m taking crazy pills on how this is a deal…. Aren’t most of these on my mini’s (lol well they are on mine anyways) but still…. I’ve paid for these games so many times….. My wish is that the next system Nintendo puts out it is 100% backwards compatible with downloads and switch game cards. Unless it’s something totally different like a VR system…. There is no reason on earth it couldn’t be. Lol anyways lots of deals to be had out there right now… but lol these should all be free forever….. cuz come on Nintendo… Back in the day Mario was a pack in….. now days a Nintendo collection should just be a forever pack in. Only grip on the physical…. I love the red case from the outside…. But you can’t see the box art on the inside very well. But whatever…. I turn the box art inside out for games in progress so I’ll see it anyways.
As far as battery life…. From a 100% charge I've gotten in 20races 3 different times in Mario kart world (so 5 full cup races in 1 session (20 races) x 3 different times(60total))….full brightness…volume 3/4 volume. After the 20 race session my hands got tired so it was a good time to end. All 3 times from 100% charge I was left with between 31-33% battery remaining. I felt it was more than enough time for a good session and I could have gone 2-3 (8-12races) more full cups longer each time I think with the remaining battery life. So from a full charge I’d suspect 28-32 races back to back skipping cut scenes. That’s alot of battery really. I’ve yet to open cyberpunk.
Absolutely LOVE the kickstand….. you can position the console sooooooo many ways when ya go split joycon. I could never prop my switch 1 at an angle before and get it to stay put. Now I can set it down on my couch at any angle and the stand has so much range I can find a perfect angle from about any position for how I like to play handheld. You can almost hook the stand to a pillow for a sturdy diagonal angle too 😂.

Do these brilliant assumptions come with the realization retailers don’t stock new games anymore unless it’s a huge title.
There are about 8 games last year I did not purchase that I wanted simply because the only way to get anything is preordering. I can’t go to a shop anymore and get what I want. It’s all special order in advance for any physical games that aren’t Mario, Sonic, ea sports or popular war shooter titles.
Don’t get me started on GameStop either…. A “new” game should never be sold as new if it’s already opened. I refuse the purchase from them online as new titles always come shipped opened.
Then with prices as crazy as they are really…. By the time there is a sale nothing is there in stock anyways and nothing is ever restocked anymore.
It’s not the players. It’s calculated moves from the industry and retailers trying to force this shift to happen. Probably for convenience and reduce theft and make space.
Nonetheless when physical goes so do I.

I own this physically… I downloaded the expansion and it fails to recognize the game being owned on the cart (yes the cart is in… it is however a Japan import and I am in the US. I’m guessing that’s the issue. I hope some kind of patch will come to let me give this game a spin. Looks super fun though.

Wow what a disappointment. I was so very much looking forward to this collection day one. Not even close to a whiff of a purchase now if ever. Maybe when it’s 9.99 on sale digital but I won’t wanna waste the space or money for the download by then and I’ll be on switch 2 and gta 6 by the time that price hits(and probably free on better looking platforms)….I can flip and floop a few hdmi connections and play the games if I wanna today.

I keep all my games now as an adult….but perhaps people are figuring out you can sell for the same amount as GameStop (assuming Game is basically the same as GameStop) is selling retail used, all by yourself on eBay… instead of a only few bucks for them in trade that they will turn and will make 500-1000% profit on. As a used game buyer… I can still buy used cheeper on eBay AND I know what it will look like as in the packaging. I was so upset buying Astral Chain and Octopath used for a large price and GameStop shipping it in a generic black boxes with just the games words typed on white GameStop paper. Returned that so quick it wasn’t even funny.
It’s their own problem no one is buying or selling at these places. It’s the greed of the companies… lol power to the player they say…. More like giving the players the shaft. Before Covid most preorders of good limited stuff goes to the employees as soon as it’s available and is held until their friends buy it off them they then turn it online for a profit. Saw this happening weekly as I visited often.
lol this one GameStop guy in a different town allowed me to snag his preorder monster hunter amibo set that I had to still pay for…. It costed me one of my 2 dark souls. lol dint even know the guy. This one time I was chatting with an employee as they were taking maps and inserts out of used games to keep lol. They were just like we just toss it anyways so I take it and sell it online.
So yeah…. I absolutely understand why people avoided used game store chains… why to much greed and now they prey on the players.

I Hope Nintendo realizes they are dominating and selling multiple copies because the games come on the cute little carts and not because people need 5 copies of the same game. Lol do I need all the assassin’s creed games on Nintendo…. Not at all (specially when I have free ones I’ve been given digitally from PlayStation over the years that I have yet to boot up ever)…. But that game on a little cart… as the kids would say… hits different on a switch when I pop it in.
When everything goes digital Sony and Xbox at the end of the day will never have Zelda or Mario and that’s kinda a huge deal. Nintendo could crush them if they stay physically and the other two go digital. Blah anyways. Taking to much time away from the games haha. Wonder is wonderful and red dead WOW really… and it all fit on the cart!

Mario Wonder and Red Dead (finally physical)… I need to add. I was console only before the switch… but now when playing switch I am probably a 99% of the time handheld player.
I just put it on the tv because I wanted to see Mario Wonder on the big screen… Red Dead is last game I played and I am blown away…absolutely beautiful.
I can’t believe I’m playing it on a Nintendo. I’m excited to check out a whole bunch of other games on the big screen. Litterly feels like I have a new console….

Seriously been having the conversation with friends recently… when physical media goes away for gaming I might pick up a system and I’d probably only ever buy maybe 1 game a year (major only new games of Mario,Zelda,GTA6, ect…). I would save money but it’s gonna be disastrous for the industry I feel.
One of the most exciting parts of a console reveal for me is what the media will be on… disc or cart (or some fancy new unknown storage technology) and what the packaging will look like. These switch carts to me are literally like catching Pokémon or collecting coins in the wild on release day (I went to 3 towns and six stores before I found red dead physical last week).
That’s part of the memories made for me with physical gaming. Gotta collect um all or atleast the cool ones I wanna play again.
With that said there is a 100% chance I would not be playing red dead if it was digital only… or any other rerelease for that matter. A digital collection is something I’ll never understand.
That’s what really shook up the world with Napster, limewire, Pirate Bay, ect…. When life started moving digital it was a free for all…quite frankly I think the gaming industry is far behind in this realm. I would expect there is going to be a huge uptick in pirating when physical is nonexistent.
Huge drop in sales and huge spike in pirating I’d predict. I’m only playing most of my games I own because I own them and can hold them in my hands. When it’s digital only (personally I have a nice back log so I’d be fine for a long time), but if I were younger. I would not care on console brands anymore. I’d want the one I could crack easily and fill with digital games. Half of gaming is physical for me… take that away and it will get boring fast. I like standing up and finding a game and putting it in. Without that I just scroll the digital library like I do with Netflix choices.
Edit…..This rant comes after seeing the bare bones gaming areas at Best Buy, Target and the Walmart guy who told me the physical gaming area will do away with Xbox physical early in 24’ and have only a small area for PlayStation and Nintendo…. All the while gamestops trying to sell me “new items” that they have gutted to display…. When every other case on the wall is the generic white with word. Blah… ha

But I completely understand why updates will continue for life haha but phew it exhausts me thinking of more check lists and tasks haha.

I have a feeling the “Switch 2” is going to launch with the best lineup of launch titles in the history of any system ever.
If Switch 2 was really shown off two years ago I’m guessing a lot of companies shifted gears for major AAA titles (ports or brand new) to a more powerful backwards compatible system where they would not have to start from scratch but have the tools and options to improve an already far along title in development.

I just saw FF pixel remaster hit like 3mil…. It would have been off the charts for 49.99 physical world wide (I’d guess 15-20mil).
Everyone is getting way too greedy I feel. Lots of these games would have sold millions upon millions more if they came out for $39 instead of $49-69.

The decision to up these prices take away from max profits and numbers. It’s like the people that do the maths don’t understand maths and what would simply be a better business model… selling a lot more for a fraction less out the gate…Anyways sorry…

When I no longer can physically hold the game that needs to be put in the console will be the day gaming dies for myself and probably the majority of the spenders.
Again this game looks great… just getting tired of waiting for a whole bunch of great games because of a plethora of not so wise strategies from marketing and sale.
I think if this game came out physically day one as digital with all preorders for physical same day one you could easily have added a zero to the sales total of week 1… I just hope the momentum of hype doesn’t die by the time the other game players are able to fire it up haha when I can pop that card in the switch.

No clue about any of it but slowly learning over time.
Not the most difficult to comprehend however all the combination of paper rock scissors and evolutions is overwhelming when ya didn’t get in from the ground floor and collect the cards.
I have been playing the intro trainer guy for the past few hours and have learned more in this time then all the other Pokémon games on the switch I’ve played.
Nintendo/Pokémon people need to remaster this game so badly. Like put every available Pokémon card in real life into that game. All can be unlocked in game and used to make decks… when new sets come out in real life…. You can get it in game too

@johnedwin pikmin 1&2 in the eshop is 49.99 so 25 each… red dead got zombies… I never had that with my OG copy of it on ps3. So it’s kinda like two as your math leans to ya being alittle…. Bias… as the red dead preorder is up for 49.99 (with zombies ha). Yeah I picked up Metroid physical… your point?

I mean ya can’t play it unless ya got a 360 or ps3 (or pc and blah blah) but…. I really think these rockstar ports have always been more about getting these games on the Nintendo. Then yeah slap it on a ps4/5, Xbox whatever and make it playable and get more money.
BUT thinking about the company… they probably make more money in shark cards for gta5 even today than any or these ports will make them.
I’m thankful it’s on a switch…. And that’s the only way I’d ever buy it. Even if it was “remastered” I’d still be switch only for me. I guess if others are butthurt for the other systems so be it…. But it will prob be like 25-30$ after a year or free to game passes AND then because it got ported people will have access when it’s of a good price.

@Joeynator3000 Pikmin 1 & 2 (round about just as old) just came out digital for the same price…. and will be getting picked up physically for me when it release next month. This site gave it an 8/10 but is a “bare bones port”
Rockstar or take two or whoever is doing the exact same thing as Nintendo but they get crucified but Nintendo gets thanked for having all the games available.
Idk all I know is I’m excited for this game… more excited for GTA 6. But this will do for now.

Seriously… I’m still humbled by the fact that blood is even on a Nintendo console. The fact that Night Trap and Mortal Kombat are as well, and they started the whole rating ect ect. If I can remember Red Dead’s content the game will be called out for being way not PC days after releasing anyways ha. Anywho… pack to this ugly Pokémon game because it’s fun and that’s what really matters ha.

Would LOVE GTA 4 and (5 STORY MODE ONLY) but mostly 4 as its limited in ways to play it now days.

Basically the greatest system ever is getting some of the greatest games ever seven years deep into its life cycle… when only people that frequent this site AND the journalists stir the pot demanding new stuff and that nothing is ever good enough.
I don’t need a new switch… I need more time to complete what I already got. The trilogy has been fantastic since day 1…. But I had gta 3 day one in the way back…. So I knew what to expect (It’s nostalgic when cars just appear on the horizon to some people). Just finished up Vice City not to long ago and now on San Andreas.
I have a PS5 but this Red Dead will be added to my physical switch collection day 1.
Why… because this lil ol Nintendo… it’s the best system ever… and the preservation of some of the best games ever have slowly been becoming available on it. It just keeps growing and growing….
I would have to go find a ps3 to replay this…. And sit In frount of a tv…But now I can just switch and Netflix. I don’t see the problem…

Yeah this will not be a day one purchase if I don’t snag a collector edition… and I’m even on the fence on that.
It will be 40-50 by Black Friday. I will probably be to busy with Harry Potter till then anyways.
These price increases for games on a system a lot of people think is at the end of its lifecycle is ridiculous by the way.
I think the switch is around halfway now…. And for $70-80 for a new game (on day one mind you)… no one is convincing Nintendo to change the formula any time soon…. Lol Nintendo is scalping the scalpers or taking from the rich ya could say… but also in a way punishing people/ exploiting people that can’t wait and need stuff asap. Kinda funny really…. Got such a back log this game may have to wait till it’s on sale for regular price baha.

@parkerthon everything you said and worry about is precisely the reason for Nintendos success.
I just googled top 100 games of all time and just glanced at the top 10 and 5 are Nintendo exclusives on an ign list. And for a fact since snes Nintendo hardware has always been considered a step below or behind everyone else in the gaming world and this is the same discussion that has been occurring since I was a child. It’s like a dog chasing it’s tail type of argument.
Their old mentality is why perfection is achieved. I love when I pop in a 2-3 year old switch game that I have yet to open. I turn it on and the Nintendo and the game has zero updates and it good to go out the box years later. All that other stuff you speak of it has nonstop updates and improving.
Nintendo does it right the first time and plays by their own rules. If they changed and kept up with the Jones they would be pumping out tons of Mario and Zelda games as fast as COD games and EA sports games but they would all be average at best and they would never that….. oh yeah and there is just one more thing style of doing magical business like that of Steve Jobs.
And as far as cloud gaming goes. They will loose all my support atleast for 3rd party games if the games are digital. That’s my own bias, but to not be able to resell or barrow my copy to a friend or trade a copy or just simply hold it in my hand. yeah digital is a nice and tidy concept and ya wont loose your stuff or break it. But it has zero value because well it’s just digital. Ya can’t resell your copy of a game that ya don’t like back to GameStop for credit. When you buy a car and drive it off it looses value…. When you open a physical game it looses value…. When you buy digital… it had zero value besides the fun. Part of the fun of Nintendo is collecting Nintendo.
As of right now I’m debating between hogwarts on switch and ps5. I know ps5 is gonna be superior in all aspects… but holding that little NINTENDO switch cartridge in my hand checks a box in my brain that trumps graphics and having to sit at a tv and a cheep disc can’t compete with.
Nintendo does not compete with the word, Nintendo competes with themselves.
I got my nephew a switch and breath of the wild the first year for Christmas. After a week he was like this game is trash…. It doesn’t even look real… he plays a lot of gta and pc gaming…. He is a teen…. His brain does not understand masterpieces don’t equal most lifelike…..
if Nintendo played by everyone else’s rules Nintendo would turn into a third party developer and not be the dreamers and game changers like they are. Nintendo invents…. All the other gaming places use Nintendo’s ideas and improve it/expand on it.

In 5 years cloud gaming may take over… but the only way you will be able to play 50% of the best games ever made and to be made is still gonna be only on a Nintendo console and however they feel fit for you to play it…. Because Nintendo evolves the game for everyone else… it might just not look as pretty.

@JazzyBeat A majority of games on all systems run poorly when they first come out now days. We live in a world of instant gratification and wining and complaining when stuff is not constantly dropping or perfect.
There was a time in life when ya never knew if a follow up was comming and you would hope for a drop of info for years to be published in a EGM magazine in hopes of a follow up to whatever amazing game or system a person was hopping for… and even when such hint was dropped it would only be a paragraph long and no more news for a few more years.
What makes Nintendo so outstanding is they March to the beat of there own drum and make people wait until whatever they are working on is perfected. However in todays world of instant gratification and sites like this where people can voice their own opinions I’m sure Nintendo has a staff that is solely assigned to read social media posts and report to the big shots what the people want.
Now when a leak is made or a game is revealed they have committed themselves to meeting deadlines…. For example the new Pokémon games…. Buggs and all….. now if you were living in in the past….. it would be much easier to delay something a full year to prefect it because only they know it needs more time AND they would not hear the peanut gallery (us consumers) popping off about oh Nintendo sucks because stuff is delayed and I’m taking my money elsewhere because sites like this did not exist.
All developers know ya can drop something now days when it’s close enough and tweek it over its lifespans with updates over the internet. Back in the day game had to be perfect day one…. Now not so much. So it is us the consumers fault for pressuring developers to release piles of crap when they are not fully cooked.
With all that said….. the switch is a cash cow and it is basically a hand held (game boy)and home (nes) console that is cataloging the greatest hits of the past 20-30 years all in one place. Nintendo knows this and there is zero reason…. Yes ZERO reason for Nintendo to feel any pressure to announce or show off a new system anytime soon. I would bet maybe in 3 or 4 years a new named stystem will be announced and a year to two later be in the wild. But I’m sure there are so many games in the switches pipeline that the next 3-4 years are already planned out…. So we get breath of the wild 2 soon…… when the highly anticipated botw3 is already being talked about a month after 2 comes out….. we will see a 3 on the next system. (Hopefully switch 2 where it can be backwards compatible and easily switch between handheld, tv and VR goggles… so Botw3 will be a launch game in 5 years on switch2 and in VR. And guess what….. the graphics are still gonna be crap compared to the PlayStation 6 and no one is ever happy unless you appreciate what’s physically in your world right now and marvel at how amazing all gaming systems are currently.

They should be hesitant… If it’s not backwards compatible (digital and physical) then I would be in no rush because my backlog is that jammed.
Also if it goes digital only… I might give up gaming and never buy it unless it’s something totally revolutionary (to be real probably for one or two games only causing all the other developers to jump ship). The switch is amazing and still has many many years left. I foresee the switch having new games made for it many years after new hardware releases if it goes in a different direction. And I think that’s why backwards compatibility is so important as well.
I think 1/2 the reason why switch is so successful is because it takes cartridges. I would not by half the games I have if it were digital only or on discs for that matter. The physical carts are just cool. Mortal kombat cart, night trap cart, cowabunga turtles cart…. The list goes on and on… Nintendo would be crazy if they shift from the switch even in 5 years time. Yeah graphics arnt that of next gen….. but it’s the system I think everyone dreamed of as a kid… and all them games just keep comming. I’m sitting here still waiting on golden eye to drop…. Like I don’t care about future stuff cuz there is too much amazing stuff on switch… where’s a real fallout game. Like if Nintendo pushes something new all the developers they have won’t be on board…. Why switch it up when it’s currently perfect…. The only thing I think I’d want would be a switch 2 with backwards compatibility….. ya know able to make next gen graphics but still all the same otherwise.

Wonder why we as users can’t just assign our own icons… doubt it would be that revolutionary of an option to put into a system update…. But then I remember the online shop haha. Maybe it is difficult…
Then I remembered the game is rad… and would rather play it than stare at the icon for hours pondering this question.
Liked the old one more cuz it pops… but the new ones not bad cuz it don’t pop and blends in haha…. Bottom line is… the next time I put the game in and it updates…. I would have forgotten what the OG icon even was hahaha.

I was on the fence after the review. If I wouldn’t have picked this up at a deep discount over Black Friday…. A 15 min demo would have sold me…. 30-60min demo would be much better though… as I usually waste tons of time at the loading screen practicing my moves and forgetting to press the button to get the game going because even that is fun.
