Re: Feature: Best NES Games

MatoFilipovic

@MontyCircus It is not really fair of me to compare Zelda to today's standards, but here I am doing it anyway xD
Joking aside, I do get the impact the game made, however, there are plenty of NES games I can play today and have a kick out of em: Mario Bros. Trilogy, Batman, Journe to Silius, Little Samson, Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, Punch-Out... just to name a few.
Zelda is not one of those, unfortunately. But, I do appreciate the way it paved for other games in the genre

I never understood the appeal of Dr. Mario when there are plenty of better puzzlers.
The Legend of Zelda, as significant as the game is, really didn't age well, but I guess reputation alone can get you in top 10.

@abdias You know, I have to absolutely agree with you. For a moment there I forgot about all those stupid decisions from Nintendo, and the one where they brought GBA and DS games to Wii U instead of 3DS really stings.
Then again, it wouldn't be first time they said something won't/can't happen, and it does, like it was the case with NES Remix port to 3DS.
As always, time will tell, but you've convinced me that there is a high chance this will be one of the Nintendo's more peculiar decisions :S

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - Better Late Than Never

MatoFilipovic

While it is true there is ton of content and collectables to get here, majority of players will steer clear from those once they realize how frustrating the game actually is.

It is not worth your time collecting all the gems by breaking boxes that, instead of being cleverly hidden, a good portion of them are outside the camera view so you can easily miss it. This was the case in one or two levels in the whole trilogy, but in this one, it is almost in every level.

Getting relics, again, not worth the frustration and time. Stages feel overlong, and just when you are ready to be done with it you realize you are only half way there.

I am surprised the focus of this review was graphics instead of an actual gameplay.

Now, I played the game on PS4, and there was a noticable input lag that killed the enjoyment. Hopefully that is not the case on Switch.

Do I consider it a bad game? No, I had some decent fun, but once I beat the final stage I had no desire to collect everything, even leaving some of optional stages unplayed.

There are stages where you play as different characters and it gives a better context to stages you play with Crash, but a good chunk of those levels are stopped in the middle and the action goes to Crash again, making you play half of the level you already played before. Very artifical way of making the game longer than it is.

I am not here to bash the game, but to prepare others what they are in for, and if all that doesn't sound like a problem to you, and especially if you are not a completionist, then there is a good chance you will have much more fun with the game than I did.

Re: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Hits Nintendo Switch This March

MatoFilipovic

Played it on PS4, day one, and regretted it after third level.
The difficulty curve is steep, which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for noticable input delay, which is crucial for platformers.
If you plan to go for 100% completion, forget about it. The amount of frustration just ain't worth it, and this is from a guy who platinumed every level in third Crash. The fact that there are boxes placed outside of camera view in almost every level really puts another huge layer of frustration.
Story promises some multiverse shenanigans yet it never fully realizes it's potential.
On a more positive side, Dingodile stages are worthy of a spin-off title, and retro levels are addictive.
Ultimately, if you haven't played N. Sane trilogy yet, I would go for that one.

Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look

MatoFilipovic

@LunarFlame17 While Gods and Monsters does sound generic, based on what I read from the review, that title explains better what the game is about.
Immortals Fenyx Rising, to me at least, sounds like something I wouldn't even bother to see screenshots of it. Yes, it is judging the book by it's cover, but considering how many games are out there, it has to grab you from the very first glance at the cover art or title.
Plus, it does feel like a title for the a sequel of the movie Immortals xD
I guess what I'm trying to say, Gods and Monsters is lesser of two evils, but none of those titles are particularly interesting.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter Dev Abylight Slams Twitter's 'Dangerous And Careless Attitude' After Surprise Ban

@DeclanS98 "I don’t think either platforms were designed to uphold people’s livelihoods and jobs."
I agree with this statement. Putting all eggs in a basket that is not yours guarantees the basket will be taken from you sooner or later.
However, whether we like it or not, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube are giants in the field, and for all their faults, it is true that they are platforms that help companies and individuals reach their fan base easier and on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, dealing with platforms that have a dicey history when it comes to bans and monetization (ahem, Youtube), is a risk that everyone being a member on the platform has to accept.

With all that said, I'm sure this was just a mistake on Twitter's part.

Re: Paper Mario: The Origami King Has The Best US Launch For The Series To Date, NPD Charts Reveal

MatoFilipovic

I believe that Paper Mario series would benefit from leaving the old RPG battle system behind. It would make it more approachable to the wider audience.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Super Paper Mario for Wii is the best selling Paper title. Of course, there are a ton of other factors to consider when making this statement, but the fact still stands it outsold other Paper titles.
