With the start of another week comes the Nintendo Download Update details for Europe. This week has some promising download-only releases across Wii U and 3DS, while there are also multiple retail titles to choose from including the latest in the LEGO and Zero Escape IPs. Beyond that there are some eagerly awaited DLC options and a handful of discounts; let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Ziggurat (Milkstone Studios, €15.00 / £12.00) - Previously released on PC, this is a first-person dungeon-crawler / roguelike that promises to bring a different challenge every time you play as its sorcerer protagonist. It has a number of key ingredients for the genre, with lots of items and levelling up to do along with some boss encounters. There aren't many quirky takes on first-person 'shooters' on Wii U, so it'll be interesting to see whether this can cast a spell over us in a review.
Midnight 2 (Petite Games, €1.99 / £1.79) - A second entry in the series that adopts a relaxing aesthetic for some gravity-based puzzles in which you propel the ball-like protagonist around various stages. It continues the solid work of its predecessor, as we explain in our Midnight 2 review.
Wii U Retail Download
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (WB Games, €49.99 / £39.99) - We've had to wait for this one long after the Blu-Ray / DVD release of the film itself, but the comedic and no doubt formulaic LEGO take on the hit movie is finally arriving. It'll include a few story snippets that are new and exclusive, along with the usual slightly off-beat portrayal of the movie's main scenes. Along with puzzle platforming there'll be a bit of flying, and we'll blast through a review to tell you whether the force is with this one. Available from 28th June.
Wii U DLC
Hyrule Warriors: Legends of Hyrule Pack (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99 for Wii U only season pass, £15.29 / €16.99 with 3DS season pass)
Hyrule Warriors: Character Pack (Nintendo, €11.99 / £10.79) - Includes Linkle, Skull Kid, Tetra, Toon Link, King Daphnes and Ganondorf's trident weapon.
Hyrule Warriors: Link's Awakening Pack (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49 or part of Legends of Hyrule Pack) - Includes Marin as a new playable character and new boots for Linkle.

Zero Time Dilemma (Aksys Games, €39.99 / £32.00) - The third part of this popular narrative / puzzle series arrives, with this entry set to fill in gaps and mysteries left over from Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue's Last Reward. It's a project that was largely made possible by vocal fan support, and it'll be interesting to see how it stacks up; we'll bring you a review as soon as we can. Available from 28th June.
BOXBOXBOY! (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) - Announced during E3 along with a discount for the first entry in this series, HAL Laboratory's cute little box returns with some extra box-based abilities (use two sets at once) and new puzzles to solve. We can expect plenty of charm and quirky collectables along with plenty of puzzle-based stages; we'll see whether all the sides of this one come together in a review.
The Battle Cats POP! (PONOS, €9.99 / £8.99) - A successful smart device title that was given a big push by Nintendo in Japan when it arrived on the eShop, it now makes its way to the West. With a charming visual style this is a 2D tower defence game where the warriors in question are, of course, cats; there's also a multiplayer VS mode, too. We'll scratch out a review and let you know what we think. Available from 27th June.
3DS Retail Downloads
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens (WB Games, €39.99 / £29.99) - As is now the norm we expect the portable entry to have a few gameplay changes from the Wii U iteration, with this 3DS entry likely to have a little less grand scale in its level designs and potentially a more linear approach. We'll find out and bring you a review. Available from 28th June.
Teddy Together (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - A friendship game designed particularly for young children, you care for and interact with a teddy bear that's come to life. Available from 1st July.
3DS DLC
Fire Emblem Fates - Map 9: Anna on the Run (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 or part of map pack 1) - This one's all about Anna. You get the privilege of lending her a hand against a bunch of bizarre bandits. If you win, she'll join your army.
Hyrule Warriors Legends: Link's Awakening Pack (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29 or part of season pass) - Includes Marin as a new playable character, boots for Linkle, Koholint Map in Adventure Mode and 15 My Fairy Costume Pieces)

A real shame that Zero time dilemma is download only. Really doesn't feel like a collection when the first two parts of the trilogy are physical.
Gah, was really hoping for another SNES release on 3DS. Loving playing through Super Nintendo games on a handheld. Oh well, nothing for me again this week!
@Marshi WHAAAAAAT!?
Here I've been patiently waiting for acceptable prices on physical 999 and VLR, which I've now got and bought into, and you drop this megaton of cow dung on me.
I hate download-only.
FML.
In other news: Shaun the Sheep videos for me/family.
I thought lego star wars had been delayed till next week? At least that's what the page on game.co.uk says. If it's just game that's delayed it I'm gonna be super annoyed :/
Just the Hyrule Warriors stuff for my WiiU this week.
Get Zero Time Dilemma! Support that amazing series!
I want to say Zero Time Dilemma; but I'd never pay £32 for a digital download. Hope it gets a physical release here one day.
@gcunit In Eu it's download only. That's why I'm considering getting it on Steam. For now I'm waiting for reviews.
Shaun videos are discounted. I know that videos aren't exactly popular on 3DS, but those are good clips. I hope the discount will get some attention to them and creators get some support.
@gcunit yep. Sorry dude. Suck dont it?
@gcunit It's possible ZTD could get a physical release later down the line, on another system perhaps.
Are we going to get more of the SNES VC games? I'm still waiting on MegaMan X.
@KTT Yeah, those unknown Aardman Animations... hope they can get some support and visibility from the video-watching 2DS/3DS userbase...
@davidevoid With you. I like to support developers, but I'm not going to do that for non-physical media at that sort of price. I'll wait indefinitely for a big price cut.
Unless VLR totally blows me away when I play it I'll probably review my plans for collecting this series and sell them off
@Marshi Import it? The first game never got released here at all, so people have a copy of 999 they've already dipped into importing.
@bloxxerman Amazon uk has the wiiu version down for July 5th, but whether that's the same for the retail download I'm not sure.
Teddy together is ADORABLE
@Peach64 Except that would mean having to buy a US 3DS too, at least the original DS was region free.
@Peach64 Region locked 3ds dude. Its a massive dissapointment that I imported 999 due to ds games being region free, and I bought VLR despite having it for the vita so that when ZTD came out I would have the whole collection on 3ds. Only now its going to be download only and to me it just doesn't sit right in my head. Plus I will simply never pay £32 for a digital only game. So im going to import the USA vita game seeing as vita is region free.
Is it me or is Lego Star Wars for 3ds 10 dollars more as a starting point then past 3ds Lego games?
@bloxxerman My copy of the special edition has already been shipped by Game on Saturday, but that is the Xbox One version though.
Oh my, quite a week! I'm getting ZTD, FE DLC, and the Hyrule Warriors DLC. I'll have a friend tell me is Lego Star Wars is any good.
I was tempted by Zero Time Dilemma but absolutely not for that price. Why isn't it priced similarly to the other game? Way too expensive. I'll wait for a price drop. I want it at least half that price...
I am interested in the Battle Cats POP game! Love me some tower defense and the 3DS is sorely lacking in this department. And it has multiplayer!? Awaiting a review.
Does anyone know what time does the european eShop update? I'd like to have my copy of ZTD as early as possible
@Marshi D'oh, got mixed up because it's cart in US, will tweak the article accordingly.
@aliuc I think it's 2PM UK time on Thursdays
Nothing for me. I'll be getting Lego Star Wars in a few months on ps4 when it drops below £20. Absolutely no point picking those games up full price, much as I love them.
Zero Time Dilemma... Finanny!!!!!!!!
Zero Time Dilemma, Lego Star Wars and BoxBoxBoy looks likely this week for me plus Hyrule Warriors DLC.
I can't wait to play as Marin. I already have the season pass, so I'm getting the HW/L DLC for sure.
Don't wanna moan, I'd still get it if it was twice the price, but as a download-only game Zero Time Dilemma should have been cheaper, as other such releases are.
@ThomasBW84 hey, not your fault Thomas. Your website is worldwide afterall. I am very unhappy that this game isn't getting a physical release in EU (and I suppose I should now separate the UK...) territories though! Like I say though thats not your websites fault.
Zero Time Dilemma is this week? That's my most anticipated game releasing this year, and I didn't realise the release date was so soon. I think I preordered the US PS Vita version that has the special watch, so I'll now need to decide whether to get a Vita console, or or get the EU 3DS version of the game.
Link's Awakening pack and FE fates DLC for sure as I already bought the season passes.
Teddy Together PAL version ? Why no confirmation for USA yet ?
Even I didn't find any new trailer about Teddy Together that speaking English instead Japanese back on 2013 before. The date is so near. How could a big company like Bandai Namco didn't released any newest trailer before actual released date ? Why didn't they announced during E3 2016 ?
shaun the sheep? what?
BOXBOXBOY, Hyrule pack and Force Awakens physical for me, though I would have preferred the extra dlc content for Force Awakens for Wii U and might have to get it on PC down the line aswell. I will eventually get the Fates packs too, but that will have to wait until I have time to play it. I want to finish Hyrule Warriors first, before starting on another long game.
Oh, Teddy Together. I tried the demo. I thought it was absolutely adorable, and I felt that it had some definite potential as an even cuter Nintendogs. Then my bear started talking. God, his/her voice is SO annoying! That voice pretty much ruins the entire game for me.
I want Teddy Together and The Shaun the sheep vids to come to NA
I'm surprised to see no one mention Ziggurat. It reviewed well on PC and PS4,holds and 80 on Metacritic.I don't know much about it other than it being a Rouglike but it seems we're getting a pretty good game out of nowhere.
@ThomasBW84 Was Ziggurat announced that it was coming to Wii U before this week?It seems to have come out of nowhere.I've just read some reviews for it and watched a gameplay video,it looks pretty great and unlike anything else we have on the Eshop.I'll wait for your review though to make sure it's a decent port.
Some tempting stuff up there especially since Thursday is payday for me but I'll probably save my funds for 7th Dragon III Code & maybe MH Generations (still on the fence with after playing the demo) later in the month.
If not, I might pick up Lego SW:TFA at some point for the 3ds (though I'm slightly wary given its current bugs & crashes going by its day one patch).
I will certainly get Zero Time Dilemma, but I will get it on steam instead. I didn't expect it to be €39,99 as a eshop only title though. At steam it will be 39.99 USD which will be less than €39,99 if I remember the steam price convertion correctly and you will also get a digital artbook and a mini soundtrack with it.
That's some exorbitant pricing for Zero Time Dilemma. Guess it will just be boxboy than.
Yeah @ThomasBW84 Lego star wars looks set for a delay like earlier this week. Might want to ask TTgames for some clarification! Anyway I'll be importing the vita version of ZTD from the Americas! Thank Lord for region free!
So is VC just gone in Europe at this point?
I'm one more person who bought ZTD for Vita as an US import because of Aksys not making a publishing deal with any EU publisher with it, which I think was a very sucky move. I get that they want all the profit from the release to themselves, but since they can't handle even a limited retail release in here, it leaves many fans feeling ignored. Add to this the usual hardships when it comes to importing US games (possible custom fees, the delay between the delivery and the arrival when compared to buying from a domestic store) and it's not difficult to see why people want to have retail releases of games in their region.
Especially with 3DS the situation is extremely bitter, seeing the asking price is the same you could buy a physical copy with online. Of course you have to wait a good while for it to arrive and all that... really disappointed in Aksys with their release strategy with a game series that had such a large portion of it's fanbase from EU in the Operation Bluebird movement.
@Barbiegurl777
Thanks for the link. But after watching the trailer, the English voice of Kuma-Tomo sounds weak and weird too.
Oh, yeah. That Teddy is unisex, so we can dressed up whether boy or girl.
Just make me wonder, why nowadays European treated like a gold but USA treated as a bronze ? I mean from Nintendo 3DS bundle, Wii U color variation, etc. Mostly European get almost exactly like Japanese did but USA got something else or variation version. Let's say, no PURE White 3DS XL for USA version (USA got White 3DS XL with ACNL and Mickey mouse pattern) but European got one. Wii U white color more available on Europe than USA (Almost 99% Black color and Ugh... painful to see Black console everywhere), PAL version have New 3DS small version complete in White or Black color but NO New 3DS small for USA until AC : HHD released first and then followed by Pokemon Red and Blue bundle (Too late, why didn't start from the beginning ? ), some exclusive localization for PAL region only but no USA whatsoever (Hello Kitty Rhythm Cooking), delayed release date for USA version after PAL version released first (Style Savvy Fashion Forward). Please Nintendo of America, Black color is not the best color for console or handheld. Maybe most people like black color for electronic devices but remember there are some people like White color or different color so don't treat the minority people like that (Must have to like the black color).
Going to get ZTD physical...just got notice that I got a 10 dollar credit with Amazon since they had issues with the watches!
