My local EB Australia store had my initial preorder deposit of $10 back when it was still NX. I have been putting more money in and will tomorrow have it up to nearly AU $300. Easiest way for me to buy one.
@Smash_kirby Vooks.net is where I get my local Aussie Ninty news, as NL mainly caters to UK and US markets. They have some great stuff that Aussie Nintendo fans like.
@electrolite77 I forgot about Forza, the last one I played was 4, I have yet to play the Horizon series.
But I didnt care for most of the Rare Replay games, their stuff I like the best was on Nintendo hardware, and their top level stuff is on VC.
My most regretted gaming purchase was my Xbox One. Aside from the lack of non-racing exclusives that are fun, it still crashes a lot and has such a bloated OS and the UI is frustrating and many things are hard to find. It's as if its by the same company who made Windows Vista and Windows 10. I later bought a PS4 and gaming and watching DVDs/Blurays & streaming apps are all much quicker to get into and nothing hangs or closes on me. Ditto Wii U without the DVDs/Blurays.
@YoshiAngemon And the Xbox hasn't got any other exclusive games worth playing. And most of the Rare Replay games are very weak, all their best stuff is on Wii U VC.
Donkey Kong 2 (I think by Ocean) on the C64 was awesome, every level was a very different location. I remember one was a roller coaster. Since the disk died I haven't been able to find another copy.
@Clownshoes A notification to tell you as soon as a game is out. Handy if you don't want to have to find out on news sites and want to get it as quickly as you can. Not rocket science.
@readyletsgo yeah but those games die off. Nintendo don't want to make millions from MTs, they want to use it to promote Nintendo and their consoles. I wouldn't be surprised for a similar looking Mario game to be bundled with the Switch.
I missed this article the first time around, glad it got reshared. Nintendo always seemed to be good at getting the most out of their employees, I wonder how many other people in the gaming industry got their start at as a Nintendo counsellor?
@Kyranosaurus I assume the screen can display the max of the system, as I bet VR will be undocked but still connected to a power source, so still technically "docked". Even if VR never comes to Switch, I hope we can play the Switch at full docked power out of the cradle by connecting it to mains power.
I think devs are used to making games work in multiple resolutions. There's his thing called a PC that has had it for decades, easily supporting different graphics cards and settings.
I assume the Switch having one card and just two settings will be quite easy.
Nintendo stared to make massive strides with the Wii U, sadly too late though. Good thing they are supporting all these different engines straight away, rather than adding support post launch, ala Wii U and Unity.
Should make ports easier, even though games will need two settings. I don't know why people will think games will need two versions, one for docked and one for undocked, where PC games must support a large variety of settings and resolutions as well as very different graphics card. The Switch is just one graphics card with two settings.
@ProfessorToad How is it a cheaply made game? It's cheaper than games people will play for far less time that have much less effort put into it. It's a phone game with controls that are perfect, game play that is fun and graphics that look great
The Venturebeat article is great. It makes me think that a revision will not require people to buy a new Switch, as the Maxwell is still best for portable, but rather a new dock with maybe even a second Tegra style chip, either a second Maxwell or the newer Pascal or even a Parker chip. By being able to fit fans, these more powerful chips could be positioned in a way that the Shield itself won't be affected by the heat. But Nintendo won't have to bother with releasing a Rev 2 for at least 2 years, maybe even three.
@G_M "Nintendo fans" shouldn't get so upset because they never got a particular exclusive they think they want. All gamers really want are great games, and when we say we want a specific thing it often goes south when they give us what we think we want.
@Syrek24 Yeah. The Wii U had some of the greatest games of its era, and the gamepad helped to make them unique as well, including Splatoon and Mario Maker. To me it has more must own games than any other current gen console.
This is possibly the most garbage NL article of all time. Watch it when you get up, before you look at any other website because the word of mouth will be so strong that the info in the video will be spoiled.
@rjejr Yet when it was launched for the 360 it made massive cash on hype, which very quickly died out. Which is why Nintendo are better to delay the hype train o as close to launch as possible. If NES Mini was announced just as far ahead, the hype would be over by the time it was out.
@KirbyTheVampire Wii U and NES Mini are opposite problems. More money was spent on marketing and making Wii Us than NES Minis, but they completely were taken by surprise by how differently the market reacted compared to their expectations. The issue is hype. Wii U had none, NES Mini exploded with hype from one online video. The Switch has hype, but the issue is that the release could be too far away to take advantage of the hype, and Nintendo need to slowly keep it going before ramping it up in January - which is already their plan.
@rjejr I think it's changing though. As long as 3rd party is on board of course. Compare it to phones, people are going more for the "cool" tech. Don't forget Kinect, which sold tonnes for being cool despite not having anything good aside from Fruit Ninja.
@Tempestryke There are different markets, and from a game maker and console maker you want to appeal to as many groups as you can, by really sitting down and contemplating how you can combine them. It was quite interesting how they are thinking how to combine console and portable groups so you get games that sit between "console" and "portable" types.
@Beau_Skunk It's the other way around - Wii U didn't sell, 3rd parties lost money not just on exclusives but even just porting a game to the Wii U. However some still kept a bit of support, even though they lost money every single time.
@AlexSora89 While gravedancing may be seen as a little harsh, people really can't complain when others rejoice at them facing justice for their wrongdoings.

I hope Switch doesn't waste money on ugly pixelated VR. 3D is far more immersive and that had been forgotten quickly in home console games.

I like how the article mentions concept, as the Switch will have enough power, but will hands down win the market in actual concept and games,.
