Re: Video: Digital Foundry Takes A Look At Mortal Kombat 11

@NotTelevision What mess are you talking about? Microtransactions only apply to cosmetics and in any case you can earn them in game for free. This isn't a pay to win game by any means. What's wrong with DLC extra characters? The base game has plenty of characters so you don't need to buy DLC. Sure they could have included all the characters and charged significantly more but how does that help those who don't want the extra characters and just want the game as cheap as possible? This isn't the first game with DLC extras. And inevitably the extra DLC characters will eventually be on sale at a knockdown price for those who want that. Don't know what mismanagement you're talking about but unfortunately the entire game creating industry is infamous for terrible working conditions because that's the ugly reality of modern capitalism that focuses on executive pay and shareholders and stiffs everyone else.

Don't deny yourself the pleasure of a fantastic beautiful remarkable game for two years. The passionate artists who did the hard work of making this game want you to enjoy their creation. Who knows what life will bring in two years. Enjoy this pleasure today and live life to the full.

@gloom You're not weird at all. It's a relatively common phobia. The good news is that it's an extremely treatable phobia and you getting yourself cured of this phobia can genuinely improve and enhance your quality of life. A leading way in which phobias are cured professionally by therapists nowadays is via virtual reality enabling very gradual and gentle extremely easy desensitisation.

Once I cured myself of my own blood phobia it made doctors offices and hospitals far easier. It also enabled me to for the first time actually enjoy horror films and fighting games and now I'm a big fan of both. Shows how a life can change!

Re: Review: Mortal Kombat 11 - A Satisfying Dose Of Comic Hyper-Violence Despite Loot Balance Issues

Scoring this a lowly pathetic derisory 8 is utterly obscene.

The review reads like a 9/10. And at the end of the review it grudgingly acknowledges that for Mortal Kombat fans - the only people the game was made for - this is by far the very best Mortal Kombat game made since 1993 which is an astonishing TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS AGO.

Nobody was expecting a graphically identical version to the Xbox 1X version. So marking it down compared to that isn't right.

Accordingly the only fair review score for this game is a foot stomping TEN OUT OF TEN. It's not right to mark this game down because it hasn't got Mario or Zelda cuteness. Nor should it be marked down on price. Zelda BOTW physical costs much more than this game in physical.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

Lionyone

Yes Nintendo. Say yes after me Nintendo, give it but make it easily turned off and nobody can complain.

But Nintendo should do it with a twist. Enable achievements to unlock real digital and physical rewards. That would be cooooooool and a HUGE talking point for gamers worldwide. It would attract stampeding hordes to Nintendo and Nintendo needs that now more than ever. As Xbox and Sony embark on next generation consoles now is the time for Nintendo to race ahead.

Re: Video: $15 Bootleg Joy-Con For Your Nintendo Switch

Lionyone

@link70222 I've never experienced joycon drift. And the drift is caused by dust so surely it just means you need to clean your Joycons? Not much different to cleaning a mouse.

I have a soft silicone shell covering most of my Switch and I have soft silicone joystick covers. And when I travel I wrap my Switch in a thin cotton neck warmer to protect it inside my backpack. Maybe those measures stopped dust getting inside my Switch?

Re: Ark: Survival Evolved Spin-Off PixARK Roars Onto Switch Next Month

Lionyone

That trailer looks way way better than I expected. It's still slightly laggy but considering who made it maybe we shouldn't quibble about such relatively minor things by their standards!!

Even so, I'm not even thinking about touching this until there have been a bunch of reviews. While Ark did really well on Xbox the makers still burned a lot of goodwill by making seemingly dumb decisions so it's on them to prove their stuffs. Making a truly epic physical edition including cool real things like stickers and postcards would go some way towards restoring their goodwill meter.

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch Console Sales Reach 8 Million, Will Soon Overtake PS4 Lifetime Sales

@retro_player_22 Microsoft does have full backwards compatibility on the Xbox 1S All Digital edition. The reason being that there's an absolutely huge backwards compatibility digital library on the Xbox store which titles are added to all the time. This library goes back right to the original Xbox that started it all for Microsoft. Despite their past mistakes elsewhere Microsoft are the clear leaders in the console world for backwards compatibility. It's part of Microsoft's commitment to gamers. If you want a disc drive you can still buy an Xbox 1S or 1X with them no problem. It's likely the next generation Xbox console will also have a disc drive because Sony's PS5 will have one. Xbox 1S Digital Edition is clearly just Microsoft trying to get gamers with smaller budgets on board, enticing them by having doubled the storage for downloads. This will be the edition that Microsoft likely aggressively price cut on Amazon Prime Day and on Black Friday/Cyber Wednesday and around Christmas.

It's all good. Only good.

Re: Switch Overtakes Nintendo 64 Lifetime Sales, According To New Estimates

Lionyone

@andywitmyer Not trolling at all. See David Attenborough documentary from last week: "Climate Change: The Facts". Time is soon running out to avert irreversible climate change because we can't do things like freeze icebergs or freeze methane deposits in permafrost. We've got maybe 10 years to take action. Prices may need to rise but more than that gaming companies need to adopt green practices. One example is gaming companies planting trees to offset their carbon budgets.
These issues are so serious that last week in London alone over a thousand people willingly got arrested as civil disobedience to call on governments and companies to act now on climate change before it's too late. Gaming companies can give us green gaming but us gamers need to ask them for it. We can have our fun and be green with it. It's not one or the other.

@Mr_Horizon Awesome thanks! Frankly HCT deserves the accolade. It's an original high quality IP and it's cheap to purchase and it's frighteningly addictive although it balances that with life savingly short races of 3 minutes or so. It's a perfect game.

Re: Switch Overtakes Nintendo 64 Lifetime Sales, According To New Estimates

Lionyone

I adore the sales success of Nintendo in consoles and games and toys. But @nintendolife what is Nintendo doing to offset the enormous carbon footprint of all the imported plastic we buy? I want us to enjoy the games without it literally costing the Earth. What forests is Nintendo planting to offset the huge carbon dioxide emissions it causes? Let's green gaming so it can be a perfect pleasure that actually helps save the planet from being cooked to death.

@Heavyarms55 Good review you wrote there on Hearthstone. I've got Hearthstone on Xbox but never got into it, maybe I need subtitled videos (I don't hear well). I absolutely loved Gwent until they changed it and ruined it out of greed, and I still hope Gwent will improve back like it was! Good Gwent on Switch I need!

Unlocked the final stage in Hawaii in Horizon Chase Turbo by winning a Japanese gold cup and silver cup. I must say that felt good! Complete Hawaii and I'll finally unlock Endurance mode. I must say after having sunk over 35 hours in this game that for a 'simple' retro inspired racing game this game is huge. Bear in mind a typical race takes 3 minutes!! The game is amazing and smashing value.

I completed the tutorials on Warhammer Champions so I'll be ready to start learning how to play what increasingly feels a fun game!

And it's beautiful gorgeous weather here in England, hello and good wishes to you all!
