It took me only a second to figure out the context clues from that headline. Seriously impressive! I always enjoyed seeing how far I could get in those little demos, good times.
The sequel hate is so tired at this point. Take a breath and go watch The Mandalorian before y’all talk about corporations “ruining” it all!
Same goes for the game itself. I couldn’t be more stoked, and while the delays are always disappointing, we have to recognize this is the first time in a long time that they aren’t releasing half a dozen LEGO games in the span of a year or two. I’m expecting some real strides to be made here in terms of polish, especially in comparison to some of the recent LEGO titles…
I feel like people are really inflaming this situation because the big names attached are so easy and popular to hate on. The first Despicable Me and even the Teen Titans Go movie are both really solid family films. Nothing comparable to something like Disney, of course, but are people really setting their expectations THAT high for the Mario movie of all things?
I know it wouldn’t be easy, but I would go bananas over a port/remaster of Wii Sports Resort on the Switch. Or maybe just a new title set on good ol’ Wuhu Island? Such a great setting for Nintendo’s more casual/party-type games, I hope it sees the light of day again in the near future.
I’m later to the game than most, but my first “core” memory involving Nintendo and video games in general was easily Wii Sports at a friend’s house not long after it’s launch. Little me was just blown away by the fact that I could swing a controller to make the character that looks like me hit the baseball on the screen!
Definitely one of the better ones in recent memory. I’m all for bringing back more of the older LEGO games, they’re just such fun and easygoing experiences (especially with a bud). Would love to see the Indiana Jones games make the jump at some point (maybe in time for the new movie next year?), or the Batman trilogy.
Still stoked for Skywalker Saga, and I have to side with @Mauzuri that City Undercover tops the rest (my only gripe with that one being that it’s definitely meant to be a single player-only experience like it was on the Wii U).
The mere concept of applying fictional characters to the game about tracking early adulthood all the way to retirement is very amusing to me. Changing the “goal” to defeating Bowser really just cements how much that dictates Mario’s life, I guess?
I’d hope Disney would be willing to let up on it, considering they outsource properties like Star Wars to a number of game developers. It could surely turn into a Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated-type deal with enough demand (though hopefully with a better outcome than that one).
There’s nothing I can say about the man that hasn’t already been said, but I do want to offer some praise to his amazingly talented daughter. In recent memory, Zelda’s performance as Amaya in the 2015 King’s Quest reboot is stellar and instantly made her one of my favorite characters in the game. It’s overall very Legend of Zelda-esque and well worth a shot if you have access to non-Nintendo platforms!
Critiquing the fact that it was a surprise reveal is so nonsensical to me. You know the backlash would’ve been MUCH worse if Nintendo had so much as mentioned an announcement date for something new beforehand, letting people get their hopes up and all.
Considering that other platforms are starting to charge $70 for their AAA titles, I don’t see much of a problem with a $60 price tag for something like this. My problem lies more with the fact that Nintendo is terrible about re-pricing their older games when those other platforms are slapping discounts on everything mere months after their release.
For example, the announcement of Dread had me start eyeing Samus Returns on the 3DS, but that nearly five-year-old game is still asking a full $40?? Ridiculous in my opinion. On top of that, Nintendo’s seem to have all but forgotten about Nintendo Selects, which is a real kick in the nethers for someone such as myself who is in college and has to wait quite awhile for discounts on games, instead on buying them on day one.
The people defending the big giant corporation are all quite silly to me. Having only a Switch, it’s near-impossible for me to experience anything put out on a Nintendo console between 1996 and 2011 without emulation. That’s fifteen years of content MIA. Many of the original hardware is too dated to consistently rely on since it’s all used (a Wii I obtained a few months ago displays constant disc errors, for example), so I’m SOL on legacy content if I just stick with the Switch. Wii U and 3DS did so incredibly amazing on Virtual Console, and NSO’s subscription-based offering of NES/SNES is such a step in the right direction towards a Game Pass/PS Now competitor (imo); what’s the hold-up???
tl;dr I want all the consoles on Switch Online ASAP and I use way too many acronyms in my rants
4 years into the Wii U’s life cycle, we had Virtual Console for nearly every Nintendo device under the sun. What’s the Switch’s excuse?? At this point I wouldn’t even mind a price increase for NSO if they added everything else the Wii U has, I just really wanna dive into some N64 and GBA without having to swap HDMIs and power cables etc. etc.
Lol I definitely contributed to this. I’m gonna try to get through Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super Metroid (on SNES Classic), and Fusion before October! As a newbie to the series I’m stoked and having a blast so far.
@tntswitchfan68 I get that. I still stand by that WarioWare is one of the few franchises where I think they make it actually work well. But I’m definitely eyeing both this and Superstars.
@Paulo That’s exactly what I was thinking. It’s a shame imo, and reminds me of how little the 3D feature of the 3DS was actually prioritized after the 2DS line released.
We got a fat juicy SD card for the Switch so it’s really not a problem for me. We definitely keep anything that’s bound to do well at parties (Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Party), but otherwise it’s pretty much just Animal Crossing; anything that’s more “finite” usually gets the boot once the bulk of the game has been cleared.
9-Volt’s games are consistently among the best in any of the series’ entries. Definitely pre-ordering this one!
I too am skeptical on the notion of literally playing as the characters, but I’ll remain optimistic. It’s just a wonder to me that they didn’t build this one around the myriad features of the Joy-Con, since this series is among the few to really make Nintendo’s control gimmicks work.
I just don’t hope next year’s E3/equivalent event isn’t a shrine to this one game. I wasn’t a huge fan of that for Breath of the Wild. I don’t mind the wait into as far as next holiday, but it does leave me curious as to when the big info drop of title + extensive gameplay will happen.
People seem to be rating based on their own expectations for the Direct. Comparing today to the last couple years’ worth of Directs, however…there’s no way this wasn’t an easy A.
Glad to see Pauline becoming a mainstay in the spin-off games. I just wish they’d stop with the generic baddies for these outings. Would much rather see King Boo than a random no-name Boo
Most of the heavy hitters from the Wii U have made it to the Switch, so I don't see much value in it today. I do admittedly like the occasional guilty pleasure of the more gimmicky titles that wouldn't make sense to port over to Switch (Nintendo Land is a particular highlight), but at this point I'm just still holding out for the HD Zelda's to make the leap.
I usually don’t bat an eye at the indie showcases since my backlog is so big that I know I’d never get around to any of those games. However, a LOT of yesterday’s announcements genuinely piqued my interest. Will be holding out for reviews on a lot of these!
Stellar feature! I got through the trilogy years ago and just recently jumped into Apollo Justice and Investigations with all the extra free time I’ve had in the last year. The 3DS ones are up next for me!
