Though I do have a few gripes about the game, those being the lack of trophies, lack of returning bosses from SSE and lack of a proper adventure mode, I can’t deny that the game is pretty good overall. Gg Sakurai

While I don't love smash like I used to (splitting the combo characters killed my main so I stopped playing seriously) I have to say Ultimate did its level best to be the Ultimate game. Huge roster, lots of wonderful music and stages and likely the craziest match up game in history. If this is the last game, Sakurai-san and Iwata-denka (rest in peace, sir) can be content with their work.

its been quite the ride to get here. i stand by my "Kirby character from Sakurai's time on the series" theory but i'm personally hoping for Sora or maybe Leon Kennedy

Sakurai has done an wonderful job with Smash. I really hope he takes some needed rest after the final character is revealed. I can't really say I had anyone in mind for Smash but Master Chief or Morrigan from Darkstalkers I think would be cool to see.

Its honestly sad to me that this might be the last smash bros game. to see something from my childhood in '99 last for 22 years an just end feels like some kind of good chapter is about to end. the feels on that one, ugh.

Sakurai & team have been amazing. He’s right that I can’t see another opportunity for a game as sprawling as this, with so many characters from other companies interacting.

Surely we'll get a Smash Ultimate Deluxe with the Switch Pro that will have all the DLC included plus a few more characters. To be the ultimate collection it still needs Spyro, Rayman, Crash, Master Chief, Leon Kennedy, Laura Croft, Scorpio/Sub Zero, Eggman, Skull Kid, Kratos and Sora. If I could only have one more ever it would be Isaac but at this point it's never going to happen and I've come to grips with that.

Sad that I never got the character I've wanted since forever... However since Smash Bros for Wiiu/3DS I've gotten 5 characters I never even dreamed possible. I guess you just take what you got and play this game forever, because it's almost too perfect to be real.

Still hoping for Ryu Hayabusa (blue pajamas NES version not the black leather version from the later 3D games)

But for a last fighter he'd probably end up disappointing some people.

So at this point go out with a bang and do Goku even though Sakurai said they wouldn't.

82 characters to play!? That's almost obscene!

The fight mechanics are fast and well-balanced. The number of playstyles and rule sets are widely varied. The single-player content, while simplistic, has A LOT of hours worth of play. And holy smokes, the level of fan service for multiple generations of gaming is unheard of (HOW many songs on the soundtrack?!)

This game has its detractors, but it's hard to argue against the fact that this is a beautiful monster of a game ❤

@shineget64 naah, let’s try to keep it gaming related. There are other anime brawlers out there.

It really has been one heck of a journey. Even to the point where people have been open to the idea of Mii costumes as a good way to represent a franchise (OK, some people DO use it as a way to gloat about 'deconfirmed' characters) and the concept of echo fighters being their own thing.

Whatever happens next week, I hope it's a nice finale with lots of surprises. I'm holding out for Phoenix Wright but I'm prepared to take the L (as the kids say) but if it's a cross-promotion character, maybe something from Dread. I'd also consider Leon Kennedy although that might need some workaround but I still consider RE4 to be one of the key 3rd party releases in Nintendo history.

So look forward to them being Mii outfits with my previous hopes of Isaac and Travis haha

Long journey indeed though, they did a lot of work to keep the series fresh for the fans, so big respect to the whole team.

I find it fascinating how the series has evolved. I still love the N64 title the most - simply because its core experience and roster is so simple.

However, as you follow the series, you begin to understand how it’s more than just Nintendo fighting game.

It’s a celebration of gaming including its culture / values, all wrapped up in a mega collection of stages, characters, music, collectables (in-game) and community events, discussions, competition, and fandom.

Heck, look how passionate people still are about character reveals! It’s insane. I haven’t booted up Smash in maybe two years yet the community keeps going

Curious to see how the series continues to evolve after Ultimate.

For a guess on the last fighter. Needs to be someone epic. I doubt it’s a Nintendo IP and will need to appeal to both Western and Eastern audiences. If it’s not Sora or Knuckles… i’m going with Solaire from Dark Souls XD

Akira Twins from Astral Chain would be absolutely amazing as the final smash character.

But whoever the final smash character turns out to be, sadly a small but vocal subset of the fanbase will complain and moan.

I think the best character would still be Doom Guy- there are not so many that iconic characters as him-and he is most iconic for fps- except for James Bond lol from Goldeneye-but licensing might be the issue. Please I want more cool characters with a gun-there are almost none- out of almost 90characrers there is only-Bayonetta, Zero Suit Samus, Varia suit S, Snake, Inklink, Starfox, Wolf-that’s super tiny representation. I feel with the hype over Metroid dread, they might add a Chozo, but which franchise has been with Nintendo for a long time- Doom, Resident Evil- they should bring a character from one of these two, because these franchises have been loyal to Nintendo-and Doom Eternal was such amazing port-just for that reason Doom deserves to be in Smash. But Leon Kennedy/Whesker would be cool too since Resident Evil 4 started on Gamecube. OR! If we had a surprise- I would accept Astral Chain-two characters at the same time like Mountain Climbers-they could be unique to play. But nothing would be as cool as Doomguy- amazing series like Mario of FPS focusing on gameplay- great iconic music and his move set is a perfect fit for Smash! Please Doooom!

I do almost wish that the final character would be a FE character just for the meltdowns. And strap like every legendary sword in the series to their back. Lyn maybe?

I'd that the last character should be first party, but I can't think in a first party character that isn't in Smash that would really deserve to be the last. It could be a Dread related character or thay could go insane and put something like the Moon of Termina or Master/Crazy Hand but idk, they don't seems as cool as it should be. Supposing they won't break their rule of the character need to born from videogames, I think it's safe to say it will be third party or a totally original characters. I already face the truth: regardless who it will be, I won't be satisfied. There are so many characters that I want to see (like one from Mortal Kombat, Lara, Ryu Hayabusa, Sora, Dante, Master Chief, Conker, Rayman, Altair, Sam Fisher, Duke, Doomguy, Cranky Kong...) That without a Pass 3 I'll be frustrated

As far as characters whom I think will bring some interesting gameplay goes I'm hoping for the protagonist from Astral Chain, Aloy from HZD or Jessie from Control.

A Golden Sun character would be ideal, but I doubt it. Wouldn't Dr. Robotnik be cool though?

Why call it DLC fighter cinematics when it looks like all newcomer trailers except Inklings?

Love Ultimate, easily one of the best games Nintendo has made.

Hope the final fighter is Ayumi Tachibana, love Famicom Tantei and Sakurai considered her for Melee.

Doubt they would do it but Sakurai-san should be the final fighter.

I hope it's a character that's personally meaningful to Masahiro Sakurai.

Like maybe Magnus (who was an Assist in Smash 4 but is missing from Ultimate), or maybe Waddle Dee?

After all these years of having to implement fighters because Nintendo execs told him so, I hope they let SAKURAI make the character he wants to play in the game as.

1300 hours put in this game... this is my first smash ever.. i loved the story mode.. but my main goal was to my first character into the elite pantheon.. then it became put biggest amount into! if im not wrong (my switch is not turned on) I might have 15! SO FREAKING FUN! ppl complain about any extra character.. i used to give more attention to the DLC (I picked all of them) even byleth, that everyone hated, it was so fun to play with him... terry the same.. even newer characters that I haven't started, I loved so much play against them , sephiroth and kazuya.. VIVA smash.. I would LOVE another pass, even if i'm playing wayy less.. tks Sakurai! you did it!

Haven’t touched fighter pass two. It’s over priced. For me it’s not content—just more options.

Everyone here is putting out their predictions and hopes for the final fighter. I'm over here hoping that they'll make an updated version of the E3 2018 trailer featuring all of the characters.

If the rumor is correct, the final character is sora, which would be fitting since the game is developed in part by sora ltd.

It’s a testament to how great this game is that I play it even more now than I did when it came out 2 years ago. Seriously, like 20 matches day, I’m hooked!

No one ever brings up the fact that Sakurai's company is named Sora, so that would be fitting. People will look into his every gesture for clues but not look at something major like that.

I'd prefer Magus from Chrono Trigger myself. He's got a great design, isn't technically a sword-wielder, and would bring in great music tracks. I don't know how his moveset would work, but Sakurai has succeeded with less material before.

Something about Smash Bros. Ultimate makes me not like it as much as I had hoped. Gimme Smash for Wii U any day.

The character selection (save for a very few exceptions) is a whole other story, though. I may not like the game that much, but I do like its characters. I commend the efforts of Sakurai, his team and Nintendo for bringing all those series together. Who would've thought that Banjo-Kazooie would finally appear in Smash?

On the topic of the final character prediction: I kind of hope it's a first or second party character, not a third-party one. The only characters I still want to see there are Chibi-Robo and Lip from Panel de Pon, both of which have Mii costumes. On the third-party side, I still want to see Conker, Rayman and someone fron Chrono Trigger. Most of my other requests have been added by this point.

Last character has gotta be big. My personal desires are Waluigi or Rayman, but Crash Bandicoot, Doom Guy, Master Chief, Sora or any main character from a huge franchise would at least leave me feeling like they made an effort for the final reveal to truly be eventful. I'll be sorely disappointed if it's another fighting game character. I'll be crushed if it's not a video game character (Goku, etc.)

Since Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia is out, my wild card pick is Mickey Mouse. Having one of his taunts say, "Haha" will be hysterical!

I assume one of the starter pokemon from Sword and Shield would be the character but that's kinda underwhelming. This final character has to break the internet like Steve's announcement or the insane hyped around Sephiroth joining Smash.

We truly are living in a special time to have all these characters in one game. Each reveal is like a BIG pay-per-view event. Let's not take it for granted and enjoy the rest of the ride.

As someone who isn't into anime or jrpg I've found the dlc fighters underwhelming but thankfully the base roaster has plenty to choose from

This is my favorite smash game, and I'm so happy that I was able to see it through its full journey. I am okay if this is Sakurai's last game, he's done so much in the past years. He needs a break.

As long as it all ends without a "gotcha, most of you already paid anyway" kind of deal (I'm talking about cross-promotional, first-party safe bets), I'd be okay with just about anyone.
My most wanted picks are a Kingdom Hearts rep (Sora or Roxas), Crash Bandicoot or a Microsoft FPS rep (Doom Slayer or Master Chief), but anything that doesn't fit in the first category is fair game to me.
Too bad that ever since we got Joker, way too many first-party Nintendo games came out--I mean, Nintendo game are always good, but not when their leads might end up in Smash. The continued absence of Pokémon Sword and Shield content is making me worry we're ending the second Pass with another Byleth.

I still think Goku and Doomguy would be the best options in order to go out with a bang. Otherwise, Waluigi is always a good default to break the internet for a day. Anything else will feel anticlimactic honestly; this final reveal is being built up so much!

I kind of hope Sora isn't in smash considering Square Enix already has 3 representatives in smash bros with Sephiroth being the recent one. I don't really trust this leak of Sora being in smash but we will have to wait and see

I betcha Nintendo will release a definitive edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after the final DLC fighter is announced. This is why Nintendo won't make a season fighter pass 3 cause they're wrapping the game up and giving those who hadn't get into the game everything under the kitchen sink and all around it.

It has been a long road with this franchise, starting with the most iconic of Nintendo going through including the most famous and iconic of other rival companies, of course, there are still many, many, but even so, the rooster has been quite extensive to just be the reason why this latest smash, not for nothing, is called "Ultimate"

My theory is they took Smash for Wii U to Switch and saw where they could go from there and make the necessary changes until it evolved into the final game.

@HammerGalladeBro in any case, it is still not a port, as I originally stated. Also, that is pretty interesting, tbh. I actually find Ultimate to be a much better game than Wii U, although the latter is great.

@IronMan30 Oh, I agree it's certainly not a port.

The reason I don't like Ultimate as much as for Wii U is because the changes in some mechanics and other adjustments mean that some strategies that worked before won't this time. Granted that's mostly on me.
But Ultimate is still a great game to play with your friends and see their reactions and they see yours when there's an epic play.

As stupid as it may sound, this one seems fishy to me. I am hoping for Phoenix, but the presentation usually lasted for about 20 minutes. at least as far as I think. I think there is gonna be a secret in store for us. 😉

@fafonio Geno. I've wanted him since the brawl speculation days. I asked for Shulk too so I got him too.

The characters I never thought had a chance to appear, therefore never asked for them are Cloud, Sephiroth and Hero. They just seemed too impossible so they never crossed my mind (and their reveal trailers were such an incredible surprise). The fifth character I'm counting is Joker, but didnt know who he was when he was shown. I played the game after the dlc launched and ended up loving him. His inclussion is super deserved.
