THQ Nordic has wrapped up its 10th Anniversary Showcase, and thankfully it included a Switch announcement among a number of PC and PS5 / Xbox Series titles. Unsurprisingly Nintendo's system will be getting SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, the latest game for the iconic IP that is 'coming soon'.
As you'd expect it looks fun in the trailer, and digging into the game description makes us think it could be a rather clever adventure game. Check out some details below.
Everything is possible in the infinite expanses of the cosmos .. there might even be a reality where mayonnaise isn't an instrument! When the mysterious fortune teller Kassandra grants SpongeBob and Patrick wishes, the two buddies unintentionally open up portals to strange Wishworlds... it's all F.U.N. and games until their friends get lost in the portals! Explore seven distinct worlds and don more than 30 cosmic skins to rescue the universe of the brand new adventure SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.
- Unlock classic and new platforming skills like the Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick
- Don more than 30 F.U.N.tastic costumes like SnailBob and SpongeGar
- Travel to 7 distinct Wishworlds like Wild West Jellyfish Fields and Halloween Rock Bottom
- Experience all the buddy movie banter with SpongeBob’s permanent companion Balloon-Patrick
- Meet all your favorite Bikini Bottomites from the series, voiced by their original actors
- Enjoy the in-game soundtrack featuring 101 songs from the series, including Sweet Victory
We'll keep an eye out for firmer release details in the coming weeks; are you excited about another SpongeBob title heading to Switch?

Sweet Victory for us Switch owners!
I hear Sweet Victory and immediately I’m sold
Well, that was the only kid game from THQ presentation.
It really is like a proper sequel to Battle for Bikini Bottom then!
I'm surprised it's not another remake.
I’m just hoping this game is gonna be more than just “durrr hurrr remember this Spunch Bob reference/meme?”
Hoping its atleast a 3d platformer styled after banjo kazooie/ mario 64 like battle for bikini bottom was
Ok, Iiked BFBB so why not this, I hope its actually good.
@Freddyfred It's probably gonna be that... that being said, god would I love a SpongeBob corridor platformer.
How bout some game footage THQ?
Graphical this looks actually good enough, for a licence game of course. But need to see gameplay first.
Did I miss anything exciting from the THQ showcase? Was in 2 minds to watch it, but thought better of it. Anything?
This is SpongeBob in 3D done right! Everyone’s very expressive and it’s overall just nice to look at. Here’s hoping that the actual gameplay looks comparable…and also that there’s voice acting in this one (a must for these Nickelodeon games imo)!
Interesting, the battle for bikini bottom remake must've sold really well. I'm glad they're making a new one, though I'll reserve judgement until they show some gameplay.
@WoomyNNYes It’ll be part of the soundtrack as they’re including over 100 songs from the show.
If it's like the Battle for Bikini Bottom remake, I'm actually very interested in this game. I'm a big fan of classic SpongeBob and 3D platformers have always been one of my favorite game genres. Never thought I'd be saying this about a licensed kids game at the age of 24, but I'm a bit excited to see more of this!
Oh my gosh, this looks so good! I just finished playing BFBB:R, so I'm really interested in this.
New SpongeBob game? LET'S GO. I'm so excited for this now.
But it's not shooty shooty epic cinematic war hero roleplay. How can this b gud.
Hopefully.....this one doesn't have the problems that Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had. Please bring in video captures, for crying out loud.
@Clarice
Because it has the best song ever featured in SpongeBob.
This is more or less Spongebob Generations.
Just a Spongebob game? Where’s TimeSplitters?
And where is Sine Mora Ex 2?
@Freddyfred @DeathByLasagna The game's Steam page confirms it will be a 3D platformer, so likely it will be in the same vein as Battle for Bikini Bottom.
Oh, the song is from the show. That makes more sense to me now. Thanks, @nessisonett <3
@Xiovanni There’s a specific episode where Sandy wears a yellow jumpsuit like Bruce Lee as it’s a spoof of those 70s Kung-fu movies. That‘s the outfit she’s wearing in the trailer.
Super SpongeBob Odyssey
This would be great for Nickelodeon All Star Brawl to add the Sweet Victory song for the music playlist
It's called "the cosmic shake"!? Getting some bad flashbacks to all the Wii games that required shaking with the motion controls to do basic things, and how much it really really really sucked. All modern consoles have gyro controls don't they? Or is it just the switch. If its just the switch, then hopefully that means it uses normal button controls. I think the only time I've liked motion controls in anything was breath of the wild. They worked very well in that, and it was only less than 1% of the game that was like that, and it was completely optional too, you didn't have to do those shrines if you didn't want to
