Not content with only dominating the video game world, Mario and friends have jumped into a new board game – The Game of Life: Super Mario Edition.
As you'd expect, this special edition mixes up the usual Game of Life gameplay with several Mario-inspired twists; indeed, rather than having an objective centred around earning lots of money and retiring, you instead work towards the much more simple goal of beating Bowser once and for all.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the first wave of units seems to be pretty much sold out across the board (no pun intended). Stores like Target allow customers to sign up to be notified when more stock comes in, and Amazon still has a few copies floating around at inflated prices.
It does look like a lot of fun, though, so it might be worth keeping an eye out for more stock over the coming months.
INSPIRED BY SUPER MARIO: It's The Game of Life board game with an exciting twist featuring Super Mario video game-inspired characters, artwork, and gameplay
MOVE THROUGH THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM: Players move around the gameboard as Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Yoshi. They choose their path and which areas to explore as they go through the Mushroom Kingdom
BATTLE BOWSER: Unlike classic The Game of Life board game, this edition isn't about money or retirement. The ultimate goal in this board game for kids is to defeat Bowser
MINIGAMES AND STARS: Use coins to buy stars for a boost in the battle against Bowser. Compete in fun minigames in a face-off for prizes, and power up with Items and Companions
FUN FAMILY GAME: The Game of Life: Super Mario Edition board game is a great choice for game night with the family, and it's a fun indoor game for kids ages 8 and up, for 2-4 players
If only life really was all about defeating Bowser and having fun along the way – we'd take dodging fireballs over the brutal nine-to-five any day.

What is Life about? Mario. Mario is life.
Least they released something to do with Mario. We need a new 2d game.( not in the new series.)
@blindsquarel a new 2d would be nice. I’m sure they are working on one also. It seems like they go back and forth 3D, 2d etc and throw a paper Mario in there here and there.
I'd take 9-5 over dodging fireballs any day !!
@blindsquarel @blindsquarel
I would love a sequel to SMB2 (AKA SMB USA)... Its was a real fun game in its time, and its game mechanics haven being really repeated in any new game.
Time to see how toad deals with his midlife crisis!
Nintendo seems more concerned these days with toys, theme parks, movies, TV shows and tie-ins than they do with making new games.
The Animal Crossing Monopoly interests me more.
Amazon has delivery date end of August. Target isn't taking orders. I didn't even know this existed. Signed up on Amazon will work out great for daughters birthday.
@Zequio
I wasn’t a fan of that game but I think it could be a interesting game if they took ideas from that game
The mere concept of applying fictional characters to the game about tracking early adulthood all the way to retirement is very amusing to me. Changing the “goal” to defeating Bowser really just cements how much that dictates Mario’s life, I guess?
Can't possibly be as good as "The Simpsons" edition I bought some fifteen years ago.
Came here thinking the goal of this version is to marry Peach, have children, and retire as Mario. Can understand why this isn't the case, though.
March was the death of Mario. August brings us the Life of Mario.
Does this guy think he's Jesus now?
Also when is the video game version coming, Takara Tomy Corporation?
There needs to be a Koopa Troopa on the stairs edition: The Game of Infinite Lives.
@kingbk agreed
How long did it take @NintendoLife to finalize this business deal? Get it The Game of Life: Mario Edition AKA Nintendo Life.
Imagining playing The Game Of Life with Yoshi. He would probably be just as trustworthy at that game as he is with paying taxes.
That's so cool
I wish we'd get a real life Mario Party board game. Though I'm not entirely sure how the mini-game part would work, I think it would be pretty cool.
It is a masterpiece, James. Complete. Comprehensive.
I'm not surprised it's already selling out! It's pretty much just a Mario Party board game.
I own it. It LITERALLY is Mario Party: The Board Game. There's minigames, items, and you can have companion cards. It plays nothing like the game of life.
@blindsquarel
Yeah the new smb series is just I don’t know repetitive. But a new Mario & Luigi game would be cool or remakes for the switch
@Banjosbiggestfan
I at least want dream team on switch.
