Re: LEGO Horizon Adventures Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch

LightyKD

@StephenYap3 I'm thinking the same thing. Isn't this why the E-10 rating was created? Did we magically forget about Shadow the Hedgehog? These days the ESRB feels like a damn joke. Just like how BOTW and Tears should be rated Teen yet both games hold E-10 ratings. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Re: Missed Out On NYXI's GameCube-Inspired Switch Controller? Pre-Orders Are Now Available

@Danondorf the diamond layout is garbage and outdated. I play games on Wii, Wii U, Switch and my Steam Deck with a bevy of GameCube styled controllers and it's wonderful never having to look down to figure out button placement! All of those people acting like GameCube controllers are only for Smash fail to realize that there are hundreds of games originally made for that controller. As for modern games, I can say that God of War is amazing with the GameCube layout 😍.

Re: Reminder: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch

LightyKD

@paschott I agree. The first iteration of DC Super Hero Girls was damn near perfect. The only problem was the lack of traditional length episodes. We finally get the trade off of longer levels but with a not so good art style. Either way, I'll eventually pick up this game to play with my daughter. I just hope it's decent.

Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch

@Perryg92 The Tomb Raider reboot and Life is Strange should have been on Switch a LONG time ago. Hell, if you hack your Switch and install Android to it, you can play them now. The two mentioned above, along with Metal Gear Rising are all available on Shield TV. The Switch is just a Shield TV with no Android and an extra gig of RAM. All of the "convert from x86 to ARM" work for said games is done. It's just a matter of getting them to boot in Horizon OS vs Android and maybe editing the button icons and layout.

Re: Has Nintendo's eShop Quality Control Hit A New Low With "Inappropriate" Stealth Game?

LightyKD

😂🤣😂🤣 This is just too damn funny! Some of you seriously need to calm down. The situation isn't as drastic. Sure, the eShop is filled with trash but exactly how much of that trash makes it to the top? Additionally, people should be doing their research before ever dropping money on a game. Don't just go by a trailer, actually check out the game play first. I have no problem with this game being on the eShop. It's way past time for A-O rated games to be on digital stores anyway. We have parental controls for a reason.

Re: You Can Now Get Switch Joy-Con Inspired By The GameCube Controller

LightyKD

@RudyC3 the octagon gates don't matter! If this was a full sized controller I would get the complaint but the stocks on these JoyCons are exactly like the ones on the Nintendo official JoyCons. The range of motion is very limited to the point of never feeling the gates. Because you will never feel the stick gate, it doesn't matter if the gate position is wrong.

Re: You Can Now Get Switch Joy-Con Inspired By The GameCube Controller

I'm just going to copy/paste my Amazon review here:

"Almost Perfect, Just Need a Little More!"

When people would ask me the question, "what is my favorite controller", I used to reply with the GameCube controller and Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo equally. The reason for that was simple. The GameCube controller has the best layout for non motion gaming and the Remote/Nunchuck combo was great for motion gaming. Both controllers however shared the same idea. Make the most important buttons have a memorable shape so that you never have to look down.

This controller combines the best of all worlds while making a few sacrifices. Overall this GameCube styled JoyCon makes for a good replacement. There is no HD rumble but basic rumble is here. The right JoyCon has a NFC chip for Amiibo support. Both JoyCons can be charged on and off the Switch and they also support gyro controls.

Notably missing from the right JoyCon is the IR camera. It's a shame because I'm sure many people would have paid a tad more for a fully functional device. On the wishful thinking side, analog triggers would have been nice, just to top off all the bells and whistles. I only have two gripes with these JoyCons. First, you're going to have to "break in" ZL and ZR to get them to feel right. That should happen within your first hour of play. Second, I really, really wish the face buttons were not nearly flushed with the controller. All face buttons need to be elevated a bit more with X and Y being a touch higher than A and B.

For Smash players, the octagon gates are not in the same position as a real GameCube controller. In all honesty it's not like it matters. The analog sticks are modeled after the official JoyCon. The travel is so low that you will never touch the gate. Personally, I did not buy this controller for Smash. I'm just a huge fan of the GameCube button layout. If that is also your case, you will be happy with a purchase of this JoyCon set. For those of you that are not into the button layout, you may want to pass. In the end, consider me a happy customer!

TLDR....

Pros

  • Wireless
  • Easily synched
  • Gyro support
  • NFC support (for Amiibo)
  • Basic rumble support
  • Can charge on and off the Switch
  • Recognized as part of the console in portable mode.

Cons

  • The face buttons could be a bit higher. They're nearly flushed
  • No IR camera
  • Purple L and R buttons would have been nice
  • ZL and ZR practically require your fingers to be at the edge for the press to register. Gotta break the triggers in.

Re: Blizzard Still "Exploring" How To Bring Cross-Play To Overwatch

LightyKD

@Coach_A You're right in the fact that it's probably not as easy. That said, they could go the Fortnite route and only allow cross platform play amongst friends and people that got out their way to invite each other. Everyone else in random matches are paired only with Switch players. In this way, those who go out of their way to play cross platform accept the caveat of differing frame rates and input types. It's a compromise we can all live with.
