First revealed back in June, THQ Nordic and Nickelodeon have announced that Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated, the remake of the much-loved GameCube-era platformer, is getting not one, but two special editions that include a whole load of physical Spongebob goodies. You might want to start saving now for its non-specific '2020' release date, though, because they won't come cheap - especially the F.U.N. Edition.
The first of the two bundles is the Shiny Edition. You can view it the trailer at the top of the page and it includes the following:
An 8"/20cm SpongeBob Figurine with Golden Spatula and flexible tongue
Wallstickers
6 Lithographs
SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks
The Game itselfSRP: $149.99/€149.99/£139.99
Not bad - quality statuettes can cost you an arm and a leg. The pricier F.U.N. Edition, which you'll see in the trailer below, includes all that plus some extras:
An 8"/20cm SpongeBob Figurine with Golden Spatula and flexible tongue
A 7"/18cm Figurine of Patrick
The Sandy 8"/20cm Figurine
Wallstickers
A set of Tiki Keyrings
6 Lithographs
SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks
The Game itselfSRP: $299.99/€299.99/£259.99
The statues and assorted goodies certainly look lovely, but then again the F.U.N. set costs roughly the same as a Switch! Still, die-hard Spongebob may well be tempted by these treasure troves. The pre-orders are up now, although the game has no fixed release date just yet.
If you missed the original announcement of the remake back in June, here's a summary of the salient points from the official blurb:
- Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and use their unique sets of skills
- Thwart Plankton's evil plan to rule Bikini Bottom with his army of wacky robots
- Meet countless characters from the beloved series
- Faithful remake of one of the best SpongeBob games ever created
- High-end visuals, modern resolutions and carefully polished gameplay
- Brand new horde mode multiplayer for up to two players, online and offline
- Restored content that was cut from the original game like the Robo Squidward boss fight and more

What a waste of money
Heck of alot of cash
Perfect for the SpongeBob efficinato in your life. If Nick somehow doesn't use this as a way to brainstorm new games that don't suck, I'll be surely disappointed.
If I'm not mistaken, a big piece of what sunk THQ in the first place was an investment in this sort of thing. These special editions don't tend to move as they anticipate. I know the Gamestop in my town still has 4 Darksiders 3 huge boxes
ME MILLIONTH DOLLAR
@nessisonett Oh boy! What do I win?
Wow. For a kids dream cost money like mr crabs..
Mr. Krabs would be proud.
Damn expensive for a children’s game. Perhaps they should have done something like this for saints row or just invested the money in remastering Destroy All Humans!
What is the Chum Bucket offering?
Cant wait for this game! Switch needs more QUALITY 3D Platformers
My God, does every bloody game these days need an oversized, overpriced, and overindulgent special edition?
A cent over US$60 is deemed a rip-off for AAA games (and/or games on 32GB/64GB cartridges), but people pay through the teeth for grossly overpriced console-locked DLC and ridiculously expensive garbage like this.
Had the trinkets been made available in isolation, I strongly doubt that they would have had the gall to charge such amounts, but because it's tied to a game (and considering how stupid video game consumers can be), they think they can get away with charging such a premium. For $300 I would expect them to throw in one of each version of the software as well!
But how much does the base game cost? In a world where Crash and Spyro each have three remastered games in a collection for $40, I hope Battle for Bikini Bottom won't be a full $60.
These are some cool collector editions IMO. Although they are also too pricey IMO.
The people complaining - You can just buy the standard edition. FUN edition is entirely OPTIONAL.
What it's just a normal Special Edition OH MY GOODNESS! THQ!
@Not_Soos The game itself costs $30
@Not_Soos According to GameStop's preorder page, the base game appears to be $29.99 on all consoles.
Oh, wait. I should ask from Magic Conch Shell first.
That looks like a terrible way to spend that money.
I’m all for special editions but again the industry has got greedy.
This is ridiculous!
@Dakotastomp Nothing. Get out
@Not_Soos It's supposed to be around $30
I'm not complaining, the base game costs $30.
But please, give us more information, gameplay trailers, and we need the confirmation if Clancy Brown is coming to voice Mr. Krabs this time.
I would have loved a special edition, so I was like SpongeBob doing his eager face. Then I saw the price haha. I will still get the game though. Love SpongeBob. And my nephew does too.
Yeah... So now the question is which system to preorder the standard edition on. Hope Digital Foundry will cover the Switch version, as that's the system I'm hoping to buy it on.
@Silly_G the game costs thirty bucks calm down lmao
I'll stick with small cheap figures you can find shopping around. Man, they are crazy, ha ha. Have to be a major SpongeBob fanatic to buy either one of those.
Just as bad as those Darksiders collector editions.
Is nintendolife plagiarizing from nintendoeverything.com? It seems that 5 or 6 hours after something shows up on nintendoeverything.com, it shows up on nintendolife, usually with rather similar content and articles. Or are these two sites related somehow? This was just posted there before it was on nintendolife.
@Ralizah lmao my thoughts exactly
Bring back the SpongeBob GameCube controller and THEN, we can talk....
they must be bat crap insane! nobody in their right mind -not unless you must be a desperate imbecile to spend that much amount of money on things you can get for a cheaper price, -like what?!
those socks; you can make your dang own, learn to make them, or buy them online.
keychains; get them online or make them yourself -which is freaking easy thing fyi
stickers; get that stuff $1 or make your own again easy thing to do.
statues; i know those are pricey but i am pretty sure you can find better statues of them in a better price than this mess!.
I wouldn't even buy this if i had the money, that's how much a system cost. It's insane, and i still cannot wait for the game though..i'll be getting that. I grew up with spongebob, and the price for this is no.
@Dman10 it’s just simply that they’re both good at covering every single thing, so it might look that way, but trust me, it’s not.
A lot of money for a crappy game. lol
@sanya_exe That's where you're wrong kiddo
@anyone
Is this game good? I loves me some SpongeBob but I ignored it the first time around (not a fan of 3D platformers) but if it's fun I'll consider getting it... standard edition, of course.
Honestly, I love these collectors editions, the statues/ figures (whatever you want to call them) actually look really cool and highly detailed. BUT 300 BUCKS FOR ALL 3?
I don't dislike Spongebob... but I don't like him that much either. I might pick this game up, on a hefty sale.
@KyleHyde @Topaz542 @Cloudtune Thanks, erm... all of you! Also, wow, that's a stellar deal. Battle for Bikini Bottom is one of my favorite games from my childhood, so if I'm being honest, I would have absolutely paid the full $60 for a remake as beautiful as this one. I just wouldn't have been as happy about it, haha.
@sanya_exe You could say the same about Sword and Shield's dual pack.
I like Spongebob, but at those prices, I think the base game will do (JBHiFi advertises it at just $49).
@MidnightLaces Cool alternatives, thanks.
Sounds like something Mr. Krabs would come up.
AU$400 for the premium edition!
Its a nice special edition, just a bit rich for my blood. My kiddo will hafta be content with the game I'm afraid.
@MidnightLaces Oh zip it. And remember that not everyone is artistically inclined. Why do you care how people may choose to spend their hard earned money?
@Silly_G What really confuses me is when people buy $60 single games, but scream that $30 for a port collection is too expensive.
Ehm. I bet some PR guy added a digit too much to these prices. I dont even...
@Tempestryke Oh shut up you whiny cheap bait, go back to being brain dead -it's what your good at.
The best Spongebob game ever made in my opinion. I loved the gameplay and the amount of worlds to explore in this. It all went downhill after this one, but this game put THQ on the map for me.
Kids nowadays probably scoff at a Spongebob game like this, but this was the heyday for Spongebob games.
