One game that perhaps deserves a little more love is the Nintendo published and Bandai Namco developed fighter, Pokkén Tournament. The game originally made its debut in Japanese arcades in 2015, was followed by a Wii U release in 2016, and most recently was ported across to the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
If you haven't actually tried it out yet, now is a perfect time - as Nintendo has announced Switch Online subscribers located in North America and across Europe will be able to play a free trial of Pokkén Tournament DX for an entire week, from today onwards. This is the same promotion as the one in Japan.
In certain regions, the game is also discounted (via @NintendoUKVS). If you do decide to purchase the full game, save data can be carried across.
Nintendo Switch Online members can play the full version of Pokken Tournament DX for free with Game Trials! It's also 30% off for everyone from 29/07 - 11/08, so don't miss out!

I don't know what it is about these types of fighting games, but I can never stay into them. Tried this on Wii U and got rid of it in a couple of weeks. I kinda want to try again, but...ugh.
At least this popped up...
SO... what about Canada? Can we play it here?
I know this is just a trial, but the past couple of days with all these free games, wow!
@BabyYoshi12 Yes, this offer extends to Canada.

Nice, good chance to see how this game plays on the Switch. Wouldn't mind having another fighter besides Smash to play.
Great, tried the demo ages ago but wanted to try more characters
Got pretty into it when the Switch port came out. A few months later my data got wiped and after that, couldn't get back into it again. I'm glad its getting some limelight and happy Ninty is doing something with their online service!
I just don't get into fighting games. Never have been able too. I don't hate them or anything, they just don't hold my interest for more than a few hours. I'll try out the different characters, run through an arcade mode a few times and then that's pretty much it.
I have the WiiU version.
I like the graphics, but not so much the gameplay.
In my WiiU, I played a lot more of Tekken, instead.
I played the demo around launch and loved the game, but never got around to buying it.
@Benhop07 @MasterJay same here dude. I love fighting games so will give this one a try. I know right keep it coming nintendo.
Oh, so NOA is on the same track as its eastern counterparts. I stand corrected then.
@Apportal This is a spin-off fighting game, nothing to do with SwSh and related controversies. It’s quite fun if you’re into the genre.
I personally won't touch it due to how poorly Nintendo treated the Wii U version, and all my progress being on that one. Don't get me wrong, it was great, but there are files for the newer Pokemon in the Wii U version that are just literally not doing anything, which honestly still pisses me off.
Nice, NA is getting the trial!
I own Pokken on WiiU and switch and it's defintely a fun fighter. Haven't played in a good while going to try and get a couple buddies to download the trial and play. Highly reccomended game! I just wish Nintendo continued to support it with content. It only got 2 dlc characters. I hope this is a way of putting pokken in the limelight and support the game some more. I feel like this could maybe be leading to a new pokemon in Smash like when Arms came out of nowhere with the free trail
Nice to see Nintendo remembered they have the NSO service.
Looking forward to play this. The trial time seems like exactly the length I would play this anyway if I had bought it.
I need to find my copy of the game. I have the box for it still but the cartridge went missing a while back. It's the only game I lost and I know it has to be in my house somewhere. This article is a good reminder for me to look for it.
Dope that it's free though! It's a lot of fun to those who haven't played it before!
A great deal for those who don't already have the game, but damn do I wish the DLC was discounted too.
is this the first time we got one of these trials, just remember jp.
the sale actually kind of bums me out, been interested in this game for a while but i don't wanna put money in the ip, so it came too late. not sure if i even wanna let it be on my profile's history to work as a ad.
Awesome.
It started today, i just downloaded the trial.
Imagine if actual Pokemon games had character models and animations on par with Pokken Tournament.
I’ll be happy to try this. I had it on the wii back when and thought it was pretty good but like others have said fighters just don’t hold my attention long. I’d like to try the new characters out. The arms demo actually made me pick it up again, it’s just good simple fun, maybe this will do the same.
Another Nice addition to the Switch online service, looking forward to having a go at this.
@jodudeit yeah. Imagine. 😞
Tried the demo and was bored of that after a couple of fights to be honest, so I doubt a week long trial will convince me any differently.
@BabyYoshi12 Haha I thought similar, I also don't live in either of the places in the article.
I always wanted to give this game a go, looking forward to this.
I bought it a long time ago and barely touched it... And then Smash came out.
Why. I had just forgotten about the existence of this game.
Nah, I'm good. I'll keep playing my Wii U copy.
I tried the demo on the Wii U back when it first became available and enjoyed it. However, at the end of the day, fighting games just don't hold my attention for long. I enjoy them, but not to the extent that I will shell out the cash for full retail releases. Usually the occasional session of Street Fighter II is enough to scratch that itch.
None of my friends even play it so I don't care.
would love too but the price for a wii u port is just nuts.
Sure, I'll try it on the Switch to see what is different for the price of free.
One week free play, hardly worth getting excited about especially when it’s been a demo for years now!
Why not give us some free proper games!
@Apportal
If you listened to internet outrage you’d never play anything. I’ve been playing since the start and think the new games are great.
YMMV of course.
I bought this on the Wii U and again on the Switch. I enjoy Pokken Tournament a lot, but all my competition comes from online (they have both casual and ranked). Both versions of the game are very weird to play locally with another player because it requires another console and an additional game to maintain a fair camera angle at over 30FPS. The game itself is very unique and plays like no other fighting game out there. If you're a competitive fighting game player like me you'll know that comes with its ups and downs. I'm glad Nintendo is attempting to breath a third life into this iteration of the game. While I'm not optimistic, I do hope to see a surge in persisting players.
I already have it on Wii U, so no.
@EmmatheBest
Files for the newer pokémon? What do you mean?
First time playing wish me luck
I've been put off by this since they decided to release stupidly overpriced DLC for it (AU$22.50 for two stinkin' characters).
Fun game, I even got the DLC for it. This is a game I definitely want to get back into!
Genuinely can't wait, I already own the game but I can't wait for the online community to be active again
Got this on Wii U on day of release. I usually as others have said normally bore of fighting games fast but this to my surprise held my attention for about 3 weeks playing it literally every day. Over 30 hours of gameplay for me...
So it's well worth the download to try out for those on the fence in my view...
I will finally buy it with the 30% discount, and gonna buy the dlc too. It was time...
Maybe if it hadn't been 60 since launch more people would have gotten it. Nice to have a sale but a bit late.
...I forgot about this...I downloaded it, we'll see if I can get interested in this again.
Wow, I am so bad at this game.
Great game, bought with the discount, and added the dlc. Worth the money. I even have the official controller, the Wii U edition and the Switch edition.
