2K has revealed that PGA Tour 2K21 will be swinging onto Switch and other platforms this summer, with a worldwide release of 21st August being announced.
The announcement comes alongside a new trailer, which you can check out above, as well as the news that PGA Tour pro Justin Thomas is set to be the cover star. The game has been developed by HB Studios, the team behind The Golf Club 2019 Featuring PGA TOUR, and will include 15 licensed PGA Tour courses. Here's some PR:
Thomas will be joined by 11 additional PGA TOUR pros, each of whom will present a challenge to players in PGA TOUR Career Mode as they compete to become a FedExCup Champion. Players can also create and personalize their MyPLAYERs with equipment and apparel from licensed brands including adidas, Polo Ralph Lauren, Malbon Golf, Callaway Golf, Bridgestone Golf, TaylorMade Golf and more.
Capping off the simulation experience, PGA TOUR 2K21 will feature a broadcast-style presentation with state-of-the-art graphics, dynamic cutscenes and a seamless replay system, all anchored by the play-by-play commentary of renowned broadcaster Luke Elvy and analyst Rich Beem.
The game's said to be designed for players "of all skill levels", with real-time tutorials, tips and shot suggestions being on offer for rookies, while veterans can make use of the game's Pro Vision, Distance Control, and Putt Preview features. Expect to find several ways to play online, too, with modes like Alt-Shot, Stroke Play, Skins and 4-Player Scramble.
A press release for the announcement notes that PGA Tour 2K21 will be "available in digital format for Nintendo Switch at launch".

Finaly a true golf game on switch, hope it will be good.
What on earth is this choice of music for the trailer? This is a golf game.
I know that 2K contract different developers to produce titles for their 2K series of sports titles, but they're going to screw this one up somehow, be it a shoddy rushed product or agregious micro-transactions.
Still waiting on that new Mario Golf title for the Switch anyway, they skipped over the Wii U, the last title was World Tour on the 3DS, and that was superb.
So how are 2K shoehorning gambling, microtransactions and loot boxes into this title?
Looks nice, will most probably be getting it.
@RupeeClock My thoughts exactly regarding the music. That's the kind of music they used to have in the old EA Fight Night games, not the kind of music to accompany a relaxing game of golf!
Digital format?
Where are my Wii copies of Tiger Woods? Oh that's right, already ripped to my hard drive and ready to play.
Thanks but no thanks 2k.
PS. I quite liked the musical choice. In the context of a trailer at least.
@RupeeClock I am not fan of this music but I would be lying if I said that the music and the montage doesn't do an awesome job of mixing together really well and definitely getting your attention in a positive way. Kudos to them for the trailer, not so kudos to you for being prejudiced and not seeing the obvious. And that goes for @jimbob298 as well.
So no retail release for this....
@RupeeClock I would love to get a new Mario golf game with a nice multiplayer as well~!!
lol. digital only
@tgchan
I've a good feeling that we may get one this year, Camelot Software Planning's previous title was Mario Tennis Aces in 2018.
I doubt they are developing another Golden Sun title right now, given the poor sales of Dark Dawn and the divisive reaction from fans.
I wish the Switch had a fun, unrealistic golf game that can be played online. I loved Pangya/Albatross18 back in the day on PC. Mario Golf would be nice but the online isn't nearly as fun in there cause you can't chat with the random people you play with or against. I really miss that type of game :/.
@Nirguna
Each time you lose your ball in the water or trees, you have to pay $1 to buy a new one.
Sadly not developed by EA. I liked the 2004, 2005 and 2006 games best - with fictional golfers that actually have personality, hilarious animations and amazing commentary. That is something that "The Golf Club 2019 feat. PGA Tour" sorely lacked. It is fine as a golf simulation but lacks everything that EA did right with the PGA Tour games. I hope that this one turns out to be more fun.
Hope they have the option of the old 3-click system. Never could get on with this analogue swing shenanigans!
Please don’t ruin this with compulsory microtransactions and terrible motion controls. Please.
I’m not a big fan of golf but I’m glad it’s getting some representation on the Switch.
Digital only? This is a sports game, it should have a physical release by default. Pass until they announce a physical version.
@tgchan,
You can bet your bottom dollar Camelot are working on a Mario Golf game.
Character models look ten years out of date, but i do love a goof Golf game.
@RudyC3 There’s a game called Golf with Your Friends coming to Switch I believe next week that may fit more of what you’re looking for. I’ve been looking forward to it. Also the incredibly unrealistic What the Golf? Coming next week too.
I'm craving for a new Mario Golf!
Despite the grumbles about this isn’t this a big deal? I don’t remember a lot of golf games (except Mario’s) being on Nintendo in general so for this big title to finally be making it’s way is good news.
@KillerBOB
Sounds grim, but not nearly as grim as that pic of yours
@johnvboy sure hope so! I’d love a new Mario Golf game... I actually love the gameboy version with challenges and more of an RPG feel, but all of them are great in their own way.
I’m actually glad to see this coming. I’m not a big fan of golfing, but there’s something relaxing about these games. Golf Story is great and also scratches that itch. And What The Golf? is an amazing non-golf golf game coming soon worth checking out too! Just some ideas to prepare. Thanks 2K for bringing this over!
@Mamabear totally agree! Hopefully it’s good!
Why do they keep making games digital only , annoying im a game collector I want to have a hard copy also not being funny paying 50 pound for a game and having to store it on a memory card makes games so expensive stupid this generation
@Mamabear Yes, although a physical version would be ideal, this is the first time the game has come to the Switch so it's still good news...
Physical release and they’d have my money. Yet another sports game skipping physical on switch.
@Mamabear The Wii actually had a fair few golf games and most of them were really good. EA's Tiger Woods games were brilliant, especially once they introduced Motion Plus. There was also We Love Golf from Capcom which was actually developed by Camelot of Mario Golf fame. Super Swing Golf was another that reviewed well at the time. The GameCube had a few as well.
Will there be motion controls?
@tgchan YESSSSSS!
Mario Golf on 3ds was one of my favs ... Tennis was ok- but it got a back to back release within two years. No Mario Golf on WiiU and it has been six years since the 3ds.
Given that most 2k switch games require a download component, I am not that annoyed by the lack of a physical release. Just don’t ruin this game with micro transactions.
Golf games haven’t evolved since 2000. They look so dated! Yuck.
And great choice of cover star. You couldn’t find ANYONE with a recognizable name or face?!?!
As above, gimme a Mario Golf game.
I’d buy that in a heartbeat over this.
PASS.
@TimboSlice Justin Thomas is the 4th best player in the World according to rankings. Tiger Woods on Wii with Motion Plus controls was a giant leap forward for golf games, the motion controls worked brilliantly well. Tiger Woods 10 is probably the best golf game ever made.
EA being EA though abandoned the series after the Tiger Woods scandal, with their last attempt Rory Mcilroy's PGA Tour being a huge step back and it unsurprisingly flopped.
Excellent news. Hopefully this is good.
@TimboSlice If you don't recognize Justin Thomas you're not a golfer. Which is fine; I don't recognize most current pop stars. But it does mean you don't get to comment on the choice of cover star, much like I wouldn't get to comment on, say, Just Dance.
I was super excited up until the point I realised that 2K will be publishing this, which means that the game will almost certainly not be on the cartridge (if they issue a physical release at all for Switch), will be launching in a pathetically buggy and unpolished state which only may be supplemented with more massive downloads (they never did fix WWE 2K19), and have the audacity to include in-app purchases like some free-to-play mobile trash, except they'll be expecting a handsome sum upfront.
Now, I'll still bite if the game is on cartridge and will buy subsequent installments in the coming years if that is the case, and I can look past the game's other misgivings, but I am not even remotely optimistic anymore, which is a crying shame, because there is so much potential, but greedy license holders seem to love selling out to crappy companies like 2K.
A physical version for Switch is available to preorder on 2K's website, so this would mirror NBA2K18 in which it released digitally on street date with aa physical version to follow thereafter.
I'm good thanks. I still have my copy of Tiger Woods 2005 that I play so I don't need 2k's garbage.
Best news ever I was hoping for a good golf game
I don't want to be mean. Golf was my late grandfather's favorite pastime. But Golf is also the first time I fell asleep sitting up while watching...
I don't want to be mean to it, but I just don't know the appeal. I like Golf Story but that's mostly for the game mechanics and humor of the game, not the sport itself.
Why am I massively excited about this?
If I can get gyro controls and Disc Golf, I'll instantly throw my money at 2K!
If you can play it like wii sports golf then I'm happy.
I was waiting for the next 2K sports for a long time. NHL2K or NFL2K?..... Golf2K....? Jesus.
Finally, a golf game on Switch that doesn't look like it is for little kids. This trailer must be for the PC version, wonder what the Switch version will look like.
Yes! Finally! A return of my favorite sports franchise! No Tiger Woods in the title but it'll do.
@JohnCorrigan I didn't like the stick control in the first couple of Golf Club games but the last one Golf Club 2019 PGA tour (which was released under somewhat mysterious circumstances with 2K taking over as publisher days before launch) felt like a real refinement that worked well (on an Xbox controller at least)... but not sure how well it would translate to joycons (pro con should be fine).
@Nirguna while it is true that 2K are guilty of loot boxes and selling progress in their games, they are not nearly as bad as EA.
For starters the grind to attain the stuff is a normal grind, not like EA making it like 2000 hours to get a couple of good players on FIFA.
Yes there is loot boxes but you can easily ignore them and you won't have to grind insane hours to get the stuff you want anyway.
I do agree they are quite greedy and bad but I'll take their methods over EA any day, considering these two are the main options for sports games on the Switch.
Whilst it's mentioned in the PR, I think its worth emphasising that HB Studios have a decent track record with golf games on other consoles and PC - this is their 5th golf game (if you include the VR version) and 2nd PGA Tour licenced game. They normally included pretty solid course editors (with user uploads and a degree of cross platform / backwards compatibility) and a rather unusual control method where the movement of the club is tied to the motion of the joystick / mouse. It's typically not your standard 3 click / power meter approach that goes back to NES GOLF / C64 Leaderboard in the 80s (although that might be different this time). I actually liked the last one Golf Club 2019 PGA Tour quite a bit.
@Cosats I actually agree with you as it got me more pumped for a game of golf. Not what I expect for music but here it works!
This! Is what I've been wishing for on my Switch! Contemporary, hopefully realistic golf game! Day one for me. Hopefully more sports games to follow.
For a second there I forgot it’s not EA publishing! So now with a true golf game and with Madden and NHL coming the Switch library gap for sports games is starting to fill in!
Awesome news. I may get it this time. Didn’t EA have exclusivity on the PGA?
@progx EA lost the license as they dropped out the Golf Game market a good while ago.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 is one of my top five games of all time. Wish this could come close, but it seems like it's greatly scaled back from that.
Was just googling yesterday to see if there was a proper golf game on Switch and this gets announced today. Looking forward to it.
I played Tiger Woods 04 a lot growing up, and I’m really happy this new series has been introduced. Hopefully it’s successful enough to get sequels with more official courses and golfers in the future. Not being weighed down excessive micro transactions would be super as well
Will this be playable on the Nintendo Switch Lite?
