Wow - what a blast from the past. I picked this up on holiday with my family once... I haven't thought about this in years and had completely forgotten about it, along with that old promotional VHS that advertised the game.
A few reported performance issues made me hold off on this one but my partner is Indian and we always love seeing some good representation of her mother country's history and mythology in gaming. This certainly looks like it aces that. This is reminding me that I really should have picked it up already.
This is such great news - even if my high hopes aren't reached I'm so pleased to see Timesplitters get some love. If it hits Switch I'll definitely give it a go.
Goodness me I hope this is true. I'd love to see another attempt to bring the franchise into 3D again as well. I think a free-roaming game exploring DK island, swinging from vines ala 64 could be aces.
The more love Nintendo shows for the big ape the better as far as I'm concerned.
Completely agree @Razilah. I played an earlier iteration of this franchise on 3ds and really couldn't understand why it was so popular. It was fairly cheap if I remember rightly but I still haven't had a purchase I regretted more since then. Apologies to those of you who were fans but it absolutely wasn't for me.
I didn't hear good things about DW9 but am a major fan of the franchise. However, I've never played an Empires game - am I right in assuming that it leaves the Rot3K story out and let's you play a new one from scratch? I've been looking to double-dip on 8 for a while now but am unsure whether to wait and see what this is like. I did enjoy the 'build your own kingdom' bit of that but think half the fun of the games is playing through the campaign. Does anyone familiar with the difference between the two series fancy getting me up to speed?
I know a great many disagree, but I just can't quite justify this as a full-priced title. They're great games, yes, but I don't think they're priced competitively compared to other rereleases of decade-old titles. I'd snap them up in a sale but it doesn't look like that will ever happen.
@sketchturner Not only do you have great taste in profile icons but I agree with your summary of Paradise too. Burnout was one of my very favourite franchises but I don't think the speed translated well to open-world courses at all.
@Scottwood101. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding something here. No, you can't get the game without buying yesterday's. But, if you want to get the other free games then you could catch up by purchasing the previous one and still get some titles for nothing. I was just trying to note that the original article did go up when the first game was announced as free - so people could hop on board from the beginning. They have now updated that article so that people can either download the second game or hop on board if they want to still take advantage of the offer.
@LuciferOnReddit @abduz and to others who think the sentence sounds harsh: as the end of the article suggests, this person isn't being given 5 years solely for stealing a Switch. This sounds like just one in a series of repeat offenses.
I'm not offering a judgement there - just noting that this isn't the only crime impacting that decision.
@quinnyboy58 @Bunkerneath @VmprHntrD - same. I didn't scroll down the whole way so it just seemed like a massive middle finger to Nintendo fans... all I saw as "gifts for a Nintendo fan - Playstation Classic" - "here, educate yourself and buy a Playstation".
I actually agree that this is a bit spoilery. In terms of rephrasing it, how about: How to beat a familiar face in Let's Go's endgame / final battle? I think there are ways around this for the many players who are too young to have picked this up in its first iteration (even with its release on VC). And again - if Red did appear in Yellow - I have no memory of that - which makes it a spoiler for those of us who did play it (I'll add my apologies if this was the case).
I'm actually super into this. I'm a much bigger fan of the Three Kingdoms theme than I am Zelda or Fire Emblem and so - even though I already played this back in the day - will more than likely double-dip. It's a great title to thrash away at whilst watching something absentmindedly in the background.
I'm really pretty bitter that the Virtual Console has gone under. I foolishly believed that the many games I purchased for past systems would carry over at least in some form. Many have repeatedly told me that I can simply keep those consoles to play those classics on - but I think a home-console/handheld hybrid would act as the perfect way to showcase Nintendo's incomparable legacy in the video-game industry and I'm honestly shocked that this is how they capitalise on that heritage. I'm also not going to keep multiple consoles hooked up to my TV. It's completely unnecessary and counter to where we are technologically right now.
I'd argue against the fact that those who appreciate the Beatles in this day and age are more likely to be musicians themselves. Not to derail the comments section even further, but I think a major element to their success will always be the way they broke ground whilst still remaining extraordinarily accessable. Even their more experimental stuff is packed in with - as you say - those pop sensibilities.
@DavidMac - just out of curiosity - have you ever written to Paul McCartney in complaint of The Beatles name? I mean, that's not how you spell beetle - and a beat / beats can't be spelled like that in any circumstance. What is that foolishness all about?
@PhillKenSebben I absolutely will - they're a grammar nazi talking about sterilising people on a Nintendo forum. That takes a special type of person. Throwing around a degree as a sign that 'I win any argument so don't bother talking to be about grammar' is also a fun tell.
@DavidMac - not all puns need to make exact grammatical sense to work - and I'd argue that most don't. Also, you could absolutely have Prophet music if it was made by / or made for prophets. The music itself doesn't necessarily have to be the thing that is prophetic.
@WillTheLion - I'm really sorry if this comes off as callous in itself, as I can see that you regret your immediate reaction.
But, just with reference to participating in future discussions - I'm not sure reading further is required before knowing how to react to news of an event like this. Whether or not people are killed, 'powerful' earthquakes are devastating to both communities and ecosystems. I commend your honesty in saying that you found it difficult to care much about an event half way around the world - something few would care to admit - but you can definitely chalk this example up as something that you may (unless you're out to shock or even make some sort of counter-popular expression) want to treat in a more respectful manner.
Edit: I agree that this is a move that makes both corporate and emphatic sense. Those aren't necessarily mutually exclusive terms of course - making the decision that makes most financial sense can also align with the one that is respectful.
I agree that this is the right move for Nintendo. Here's hoping to everyone's safety and well-being.
@LinkSword Yeah, I'm not necessarily objecting - I was just a bit surprised and was wondering what the policy was here on using that sort of imagery on the front page. After all, it's in the trailers and easy to access. I remember being delighted by grotesque and weird pictures in my old game magazines as a kid - and I guess it's no different here really.
I might be completely off base here and I am completely anti-censorship - but I'm surprised to see the image used for this link on the main page. Is the site designed to be completely appropriate for all ages? I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on this.
Hilarious that the first paragraph of this article was edited to fix a small spelling error whilst missing the major grammatical issue that ensured that it wasn't actually coherent.
@Crono1973 - I'm not particularly fascinated myself - there's no way I would spend the time doing this (though I'm not sure I could if I wanted to).
But I guess I have enough of an interest to appreciate that there are those who want to understand a game's coding and work out the optimal way to 'game' the machine. I understand why some out there would enjoy this sort of reverse-engineering and tinkering. What does surprise me is how vocally resistant these comments were.
Not too sure why people don't get how this is a speedrun (of at least a type). Unless I'm missing something, he's playing a legitimate copy of the game and beating it with nothing but controller inputs. Speedrunning can often be dependent on exploits and this does indeed seem to require a great deal of precision, knowledge and skill.
@Shellcore - it really isn't anything more than a passing reference - just the fact that it's described as being at the peak of a mountain. It just felt to me like finding a nice reference unexpectedly will now be: "oh, it was on top of this mountain". Again, I do realise I may be being precious about this and just wanted to know if anyone felt the same way.
A genuine question - but is it unreasonable of me to feel like telling me where the Zelda garb is located in a review is a bit of a spoiler for those who would have liked to have found it themselves? I thought the same about the Mario Odyssey review explaining how many levels there were and which point represented the 'half way' mark. I realise that reviews will always need to show images and give information, but it seems to me that I'm reading more that seem to have specific bits of information that don't really serve much purpose (surely explaining that the outfit is in the game is enough). Am I being too precious here?
@snaplocket I never played the first. I did really like the world and gameplay in X, but the characters, story and music just didn't hit the right tone for me.
That is hideously overdesigned. I was tentatively interested in this Xenoblade game but all the fanservice in X really dampened my enjoyment of it. I thought it had the most insufferably irritating group of characters I could think of.
@anti-matter for someone who constantly promotes their interest in family friendly gaming you come off as remarkably aggressive and close-minded towards other people's tastes.
I really love this game but playing Murphy on the big screen using a button feels a bit redundant. I'm not sure how any game can be called definitive when fundamental gameplay is tied to a method of control that isn't on the system.
@nhSnork If they think the new icon looked better they are well within their rights to keep it, of course - but that doesn't stop the fact that I wish they hadn't made that choice. It's such a small thing and not the end of the world, but I'm still surprised they thought it was better.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm still irritated that the Snake Pass team didn't reverse the icon after all the complaints they got. It makes the game look like a mobile app.
A controversial opinion here perhaps, but I much prefer Dynasty Warriors absurd take on The Romance of the Three Kingdoms to either the stories and characters in Hyrule / Fire Emblem Warriors so this is great news for me. I'm really hoping the Ninth installment gets ported over on release too as that looks like it will be an interesting next step for the franchise.
