@Damo Not necessarily… Maybe I’m not the brightest one out there, but I was really delighted to meet another character in the game I didn’t expect. I don’t remember Red appearing in Yellow (sorry if he did), so this seems like a new thing introduced in Let’s Go. I think I’m with Arlo on this one – it’s much better to discover things on your own and be surprised. That being said, guides like this article are also important because not everyone will discover everything on their own. If I could suggest something, maybe less obvious titles would be a good thing? Something like “How to find cameos” or “Check if you discovered all the easter eggs in the game with this guide!”. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know.

@MaciejKuczynski While I broadly agree with your point. It's very dificult to produce a guide to meeting Red without mentioning that you meet Red.

I actually agree that this is a bit spoilery. In terms of rephrasing it, how about: How to beat a familiar face in Let's Go's endgame / final battle? I think there are ways around this for the many players who are too young to have picked this up in its first iteration (even with its release on VC). And again - if Red did appear in Yellow - I have no memory of that - which makes it a spoiler for those of us who did play it (I'll add my apologies if this was the case).

This game is all about nostalgia, yet they changed his team. I’m nitpicking I know, but no Blastoise and no Charizard for the character named Red sure is surprising.

All I gotta say is that I’m a shiny obsessed trainer and caught my first shiny an hour and a half after I started shiny Weedle HYPE

It's the Manga design for Red, I believe he uses his team from the Manga as well.
Same goes for... two other characters.

This is a spoiler that is really obnoxious to see in the title...Red was not in the original games (technically, your character was Red) and I’ve been avoiding trailers, so sorry if he was shown in one, but yeah this is really kind of a bummer to be spoiled about considering this game has so few surprises anyway. Please be more conscious in the future—I’m not being butthurt, that’s a legitimate request.

Um I'm sorry guys you didn't play as Red in the first Gen Pokemon games you played as Blue. Duh. Or as Ash or yourself.

@Benexcelsior I think they wanted to divide the starters between all 3 characters and Red had a Venusaur in the manga adaptation of R/B/Y.

Is this seriously what passes for news on NL these days? It's like an item in an FAQ or walkthrough. But this is part of the reason I've often skipped NL in my feed in recent years.

Blue is revealed very early. It’s common sense that Red is going to appear. In fact your rival even says that Blue once beat the elite four and was then beat by his rival.

I got 30 Pokemon. Too much ADDICTED to never stop playing please help. So Addicted how to stop this playing pokemon.

@Trajan No, Ash was never really canon to the game series. The anime came AFTER the original games, and Yellow was a remake that leaned into the popularity of the anime. But Even then, you were never Ash.

This would have been so much more exciting if I discovered it myself... I didn't expected that from you nintendo life.

You played as Red in the original games, Red was the player character's placeholder name. Blue was your rival's placeholder name. You never played as Ash in any of the three original games. It's pretty amusing when people try to correct others when they don't know what they're talking about.

Nope you are wrong 100%. If you had the superior blue version one choice for you was blue and your rivals was red. In yellow you could choose Ash and Gary.

Look I'm not trolling you but you are so wrong. In Blue version the presets included Blue for your character and Red for your rival opposite of Red version which had Red as a preset for your character and Blue for your rival. Yellow, Jack and Ash are presets in yellow version for the player.

But you don't PLAY as Ash in Pokemon Yellow, Ash isn't the main character. These are all nothing more than placeholder names. However, GameFreak confirmed that the canon name for the player character is Red in R/B/Y by calling the character Red and the rival character Blue from those games, play Gold/Silver/Crystal, Black/White, Sun/Moon or watch the Pokemon Origins anime if you don't believe me.

Also, did you even read the article that you linked in your comment? LMAO. It literally calls Red the first ever protagonist. This is a similar situation to the protagonist in Persona 5. In the game you choose his name, but it's been confirmed that his canon name is Akira Kurusu.

If you're denying cold hard facts because you believe Blue was a better version than Red (I had Blue first and prefer it over Red because Blastoise is my favorite third evolution of the first gen's starters, but Yellow is better than both of them) I don't know what to tell you other than to get over it. That's a really dumb reason to argue common knowledge in the Pokemon community.

It's a matter of perspective. Ash was the name in the anime and didn't play to players choice of version which makes it confusing. And for your info I still own Blue, Yellow and Silver. So calling the main Red is in bad taste.

You know the games came before the anime and not the other way around, right? Ash was designed to resemble Red somewhat, but they aren't the same person. Red is the player character of first gen, a silent character with no personality.

I don't care which version you own dude, I'm not calling him Red out of biased preference for the Red version. I'm calling him Red because that's literally what Nintendo/Game Freak calls him. Next you're going to tell me you play as Zelda because the games are called The Legend of Zelda.

To be more accurate, you need to earn six titles. The mythical pokemon (the three birds, mewtwo, mew, and the two introduced with go) just need to be at lvl 90+ and shown to their respective master trainers which counts in the total. Completed dex + alolan forms and fought red. With 40 hours in really not much else to do unless you are into shiny hunting and perfecting stats.
Guess for a vivid and true rpg experience will have to wait for the gen 8 games, though this one got a lot of things so well done and everyone should pick up a copy even if it's down the line before next november hits.
