In today's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Sakurai-san revealed that the game will offer paid DLC which will bring new fighters, stages and music to the game. While the timing is still a bit up in the air for when the new content will begin, it is expected to be done and dusted by February 2020.
For $5.99, players can purchase one set, which includes a new playable fighter (not an Echo Fighter), a new stage and a variety of music tracks.
Keener Smash players can opt to buy a Fighters Pass for $24.99, and get access to five yet-to-be-announced sets, which is five new fighters, five stages and multiple music tracks, as they release. Players who purchase a Fighters Pass will also receive an in-game outfit based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 starting on 7th December.
Sakurai appealed to Switch owners to pre-purchase the game, so you can get the Piranha Plant character as an early purchase bonus. Pre-purchasing the digital version of the game with the Fighters Pass in Nintendo eShop before 11:59 p.m. ET on 6th December will earn My Nintendo members 425 bonus Gold Points, or double the usual amount.
Let us know if you think the paid DLC will be good value for money or not with a comment below. Will you be coughing up for the Fighters Pass or not?

I am kinda glad that it's different and less cinematic the sse
I’m excited to see who’s coming next. It will be cool to still get fun reveal trailers while already being able to play the game. They have ruled out so many potential fighters by making them assist trophies, however. Makes me wonder who they might add.
It's a fair price, and worth it tbh. Who knows what surprises they have in order.
That's a lot of content. I was already gonna buy the game anyway but looks like Nintendo is trying go for "Best Fighting Game" ever. I can see them dominating holiday season this year.
Cool for those that like DLC....?
I mean...I never bought Smash 4 DLC because I don't like paying for DLC.
More importantly, I feel like Sakurai and co. should just get that break. DLC seems like an unnecessary way for them to keep at it.
DLC is confirmed. That's all I needed. With Isaac sadly getting the AT treatment (sorry again for mentioning it, @LasermasterA), there's still hope for other fighters - Sora, Crash, Spyro, Master Chief, Banjo-Kazooie, Doomguy, anyone among these (with Geno from Super Mario RPG, Kefka and/or Terra from Final Fantasy VI, Sephiroth from FFVII, Noctis from XV or Bartz from V as viable Square rep alternatives) is fair game to me.
And as @thesilverbrick said, it's like - much like it happens elsewhere in the gaming industry - they're simply releasing Ultimate before the actual full roster makes the cut, with the rest becoming DLC. And it's gonna be a fun waiting game before then.
Not very Ultimate.. but eh gaming industry never gets that term right.
Glad the game is getting post release support, and isn't anywhere near as convoluted as Smash Wii U's route.
Man, I hope Geno is one of the DLC characters. I'd thought he'd be in for sure after Ridley and K.Rool were announced, so I hope he ends up in the game at some point. Disappointed he's not a part of the main roster, though.
I hope this game's DLC will feature beyond what's there. This is nice, but I want this game to be even bigger.
I’m probably gonna wait a bit to get the fighter pass, with so much content already in the game. And I only ever bought MewTwo in SSB4. I’m not bothered by this at all.
So, because I’m buying physical, I won’t get Petey Piranha early. Basically, strong arming me into buying digital. Thumbs down. I shouldn’t be penalized for that. I’m a day one buyer.
Also, the Rex costume has brought forth an unexpected hope for Pyra as a dlc character.
@Gen0neD you should still get the Plant if you buy physical and register the cart on the console before the February cut-off date
(Also, awesome avatar)
@Gen0neD I'm in the same boat and you will get Petey, you just need to register your physical copy with Nintendo. It would be easier if they just gave out codes but I guess they are trying to drive people towards their loyalty scheme.
@Gen0neD You will get him still if you buy it Physically. You just have to register the game before the 31st of January (aka get the gold points from it) and you will receive a code when it is released.
It feels like my soul just got shattered since both Shantae and Isaac make 'less than' cameos(the latter being an assist trophy, and the psynergy choice they gave him is not exactly what I expected, but I s'pose it's interesting).
That pretty much rules them out as possible DLC, which means I have nothing to even hope to look forward to....
SIGH
And onto the topic. I am glad they are offering a season pass for the dlc but by announcing a season pass then you know how many fighters you are getting in total.
I thought at first that €6 for each fighter was a little high but then I remembered that you are also getting a stage and music with those fighters which makes the price fine in my eyes.
@gaga64 Ok, thanks for talking me down off the ledge. I’m driving, so there’s not much time for rational thought. And Megatron says thanks too
The DLC characters will be Waluigi, Gooigi, Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Luigi & Rabbid Wario.
Rex is just a costume?
DLC? Why not release a finished product?
Early item for download only? What?
I think I'll hold off buying this game. Wait for the hype to die and see what people really think.
I'm actually more concerned that they've already said five as the total DLC. The way I see it is this game should have continued support through the lifespan of the Nintendo switch. Unless he gets told to make another smash game after this one, this should be the last game in the series. So maybe the battle pass will be for the first five and another battle pass will be for the next 5? They could be doing the battle pass the same way that Hyrule warriors did on the Wii U, that bad boy had 2 season passes. Either way, I think it's going to depend on how many companies want their character in Smash and are willing to pay for the publicity.
@Velocirapstar You forgot Bowsette.
Also, they’ll probably put Rabbid Waluigi in the game but not the real one, just to spite Waluigi whiners.
At least the DLC seems more affordable this time around.
I never got the Smash Wii U/3DS DLC (despite getting the amiibo), because even as bundles for characters, stages, and mii costumes, it cost too much.
The fighter's pass seems cheaper since it includes the character, stage, and music.
The dlc needs to bring out at least one more Nintendo girl. So many guys so little time... but who besides Dixie Kong is left?
So if i preorder the Base Game i get 600 gold coins digitally after the game is released. I have til the end of January to get the Piranha Plant DLC Fighter either way.
I'd just get the eshop base game and use the extra 600 gold coins on the Fighter's Pass to knock the game down to $19 usd
Either way the Piranha Plant doesn't come out til probably Feb 2019
Very patient.
Go to pre-order, and it says the planned dates for DLC are in 2020.
@BensonUii That's correct it won't be paid for until later (February seems to be the date currently floating about) so plenty of time to pick him up free.
Still hoping for Banjo!
So wait, if you pre-purchased the PHYSICAL version, do you get Petey Piranha?
@Franklin probably a new DLC Fighter every two months starting with the Piranha Plant in Feb 2019
@rdm22 yes you have til 01/31/19 to register the game
you don't have to preorder, the only preorder bonus is the My Nintendo Gold Coins which is like $3 for the eshop version.
I am expecting tears even though there is an obscene amount of content in this game.
I don't usually do the season pass upfront but I'll bite. I bought a lot of fighters last time so I might as well as go all in. I think I will eat the possible discount and get this digital. (but I want the box too. decisions decisions)
Waluigi, Shovel knight, Dixie Kong, Another character from F-zero, Poochy or Birdo, Toon Zelda, Toon Ganondorf, Another character from Xenoblade, Luigi mansion costume, Another legendary Pokémon are What I want as DLC.
@w00dm4n Thank you!
Seeing as I flat out refuse to buy this game, means nothing to me.
"That are not echo fighters." BlessRNG
I will definitely buy the season pass, and I’m ecstatic about Piranha Plant. I’d much rather prefer every fighter on the cartridge, but it’s not that big of a deal to me. Bring it on, Sakurai!
Definitely gonna get that fighter pass. I just hope they don't put such a focus on Mii Fighter costumes and give characters people actually care about some more costumes, I'll happily take those as DLC as well.
I'm only hoping for Banjo-Kazooie. The other character that I wanted was already added back in Smash 4.
Should be noted that the website says that registering the physical release of the game before Feburary will still get you Piranha Plant, so it's not just for digital buyers.
This game just gets more and more bloated every time you hear about it... At this rate, 90% of your play time will be in the damn character and level select screens. What is it like 100+ stages and 80+ characters now or something...? I think I'd take the 9 stages and 12 characters of the original over this "exhausting/overwhelming amount of content" approach any day, but maybe that's just me.
DLC...oh....great.....this sure is the ultimate edition then!
Everyone is here!**
(** All characters not included, additional purchase necessary, objects enlarged to show detail, not actual size, see package for details.)
Ray-MAN!
Ray-MAN!
Ray-MAN!
Is Piranha Plant one of the 5 DLC characters? I'm confused
@XenoShaun how would you define "ultimate"?
@Tulio517 don't think so, but wasn't clear.
@XenoShaun This game has so much content pulled from other smashes so not sure what else you'd consider an ultimate version of a game.
@KayFiOS YESSSSSS!!
@Kalmaro Finale. End. Nothing further afterwards, so there being more content being added behind a paywall as well kind of makes the term Ultimate moot.
Like Assassin's Creed games having Ultimate editions then having a bunch more editions that are more Ultimate than Ultimate. So when all DLC is finally released for Smash, will it then be Smash Ultimate the Ultimater edition?
@dougphisig - explained most above but it isn't based on how fully packed with content the game is but more of the way Ultimate is used. Its negating itself.
In short I'm being nitpicky.
@XenoShaun I see. I think they are using the other definition, just that it's the best quality. Even if you added the dlc, the game would still technically be the best quality so that would be the ultimate edition.
So long as the Fighter's Pass covers ALL dlc, it's a good deal to me, especially since the fighters won't be echo's.
I mean, isn't it like $5 a character in most fighting games? Factor in a stage and music, each standalone dlc seems worth the price, plus the game is already full of characters and content from the get-go, so you don't have to feel the need to even get it.
@NEStalgia But they did do everyone and some extras. They haven't even made these new characters yet. Plus these are new with no echos. So that just goes in line with Nintendo's model to keep watering evergreen titles. But if you are dismayed at 70+ characters...you must not sleep. Teach me how to do that.
I know you arent a smash fan (I'm not in love with the series beyond the premise, myself) but this is a silly amount of content. If Sakurai-san comes out in 2020 and says "this is the last smash, I'm out" I would not even be upset. Because this is the kitchen sink and they are throwing the stove too.
@AlternateButtons I mean by common logic, if they intend to add more before the final product is released, it isn't complete.
I find the gatcha system and merc missions from Xenoblade 2 a funny addition. And Spirits are blades basically...
I'll be getting it probably.
The game looks like a headache though. I also have no idea about Pokemon after 151.
@AlternateButtons Actually they said they had to cut Torna due to time or something. I can't remember.
Seeing how big Torna was, it was totally worth it though.
I bought the DLC because I fell in love with the game though. Same with BOTW (which was a disappointment TBH).
Hope we get some good characters as I expected dlc. Still some reveals made me sad as I hope the spirit does not exclude characters
@Ryu_Niiyama It's not that I think the game is lacking content (cough SFV cough) but an ultimate edition that has everything packed in.....either everything that matters isn't packed in and is sold separately, or everything that matters is packed in and they're selling unimportant fluff for $25 extra.
It's not that the base game is shallow, its this whole "you never buy a complete product you keep buying more and more and more" concept where even "ultimate editions" aren't actually complete (It's like FFXV Royal....which is merely "all the parts for sale thus far..." edition.)
@AlternateButtons @Trajan Torna was going to be a chapter of XC2 late game where the flashback cutscenes are before Chapter 9, but when they started building it out they realized it would require something way bigger than a chapter to tell the prequel story and proposed fleshing it out as a full game/addon.
@NEStalgia Yeah I know. It was going to be too big.
Torna is DLC done right.
@AlexSora89 At least they didn't forgot Golden Sun! Maybe we still got hope that in the future Golden Sun 4 comes out on the switch???
@AlternateButtons Torna is literally bigger than Mario Odyssey.
Greatly disappointed that Rex won't be a playable character. The Mii outfit does not suffice imo.
@Gen0neD No. no. no. On the Nintendo Treehouse today, they said if you get the game physically, just register it and you would still get Petey Piranha!!! I getting Smash Ultimate physical too and BEST TO BELIEVE I'M REGISTERING THE GAME TO get Petey Piranha!!!! Get them golden coins and Petey Piranha for registering Ultimate!!! ^__^
@NEStalgia Then we get to the do we want a "one and done game" or do we want the option (key word) to spend more time in a game we like? It is a fine line. But with all the content in the base game and the fact that they haven't started working on the dlc so it is truly extra that I think Nintendo is on the right side of the line. I mean somebody is going to be affronted but you know some people just look for the bad in everything.
plus you can be a fighting plant... that's a Dan level plus right there.
@gloom Pyra/Mythia from Xenoblade 2, tons if you add the female blades and other female characters too.
I'm excited for both the DLC characters and the Adventure Mode.
It's always a bummer for competitive players since they need to buy them to know their moves. But I am not one and 74 fighters is plenty.
@AlternateButtons In the case of Torna, "removed it" seems to mean "started working on it but never finished it before deciding it doesn't really fit and can't be done as a chapter" I think it's a little different to add a few maps and characters to an "ultimate" edition as post-paid content versus starting a prequel chapter and realizing there's no logical way to make that a chapter mid-game in a game that's already 120+ hours long, and that it's better as its own game.
The Smash DLC seems more like "Ultimate edition that includes everything except the things we'll sell you later." Given the current trend in games, and especially fighting games to sell characters over a year, and the new Nintendo president's focus on "online and DLC" I can't help but feel Nintendo is joining the rest of the industry trends as rapidly as they can. "Get most of the content for the base price, but if you want the rest of it, it's going to cost you $15 per pound" just doesn't sit right. Much as I hate Ubisoft's $100 "gold" editions that include the actual full game, at least their last two instances of that included an actual remastered full retail game for the extra $40 in addition to all the add-ons.
@MisterDevil
I don't know. At least there's still hope for Isaac's own son, Matthew.
@Ryu_Niiyama "one and done" has to do with game design, not SaaS content. Smash was never "one and done" with or without DLC. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is "one and done" even with DLC. Replayability and "evergreen/arcade" play doesn't need DLC to work. Would you rather have MK8D: Pay once, get everything in the box, and play as much as you want, or MK8: Pay once, then keep paying piece by piece as they make the rest of the game? I realize that was a re-release bundle, but that's the point. MK8D isn't worse, or less endlessly playable without adding more stuff to it endlessly for a fee. These are all end-runs as a means of keeping game prices "the same" while actually raising prices to buy the actual whole game. Perhaps buying it as a "Season Pass" even at a discount, at launch, is what pushes this over the line. If Smash were Smash, and then character DLC was announced 3 months later for a price, it's one thing. Ok, they made new content to sell, maybe I'll buy it. Maybe not. Selling the Season Pass at launch is a clear statement "The whole game costs $85, but you can buy the cut down version for $60."
Not just calling out Smash. Nearly every FG has fallen into this. Spider-man, AC:O (although you get ACIII Remaster with the pass), a lot of the major games are doing that. Pointing out, on day one, that the full game is $80, 90, 100 and that the "standard" edition is incomplete. It changes the proposition from "content added later for a price so you can enjoy more of what you like" to "here's what it costs to actually buy a complete game, and it's not $60." It makes me appreciate RDR2 a little more....the deluxe versions contained nothing of real merit, just some weapons, skins, costumes, etc for a lot more money. Nothing to really feel missing, just some extra stuff. Same with Fallout76, which is surprising.
Torna stands alone. It's a whole RPG smaller than the main game, sold as part of the pass for less than the price of the stand-alone retail game. That was a special case, where you were getting another smaller RPG for less than the sticker price, PLUS additional small content in the main game. that is DLC.
Edit: Ok, the plant is awesome but that's thankfully a preorder bonus for regular price or sold separately later
As long as it's not waluigi, this is great news!
@NEStalgia I know this is your hill to die on, and you know that as a FG player I'm not going to agree with you. but considering your mario kart example. The base game of 8 was fantastic. I got my money's worth. But for some odd reason Nintendo decided to make more cups and add new characters for me to race with. I was more than happy to give them the cash to spend more time go karting with friends (and ruining said friendships).
I never said that an evergreen needed it. I said it waters an evergreen. In other words by extending out an already solid base game you make it more attractive to late adopters and give day 1 people plenty fresh content to sink their teeth into later. This isn't like Splatoon where content was held back to deliberately extend the life. It is more like Splatoon 2 where they decided to drop the octo expansion in addition to the already completely satisfying base game. Which again goes back to the fact that the base game is complete, you can play smash with the 70+ characters and modes and be done...I'd argue that Torna which has story content falls more into the incomplete game than a FG would.
However that depends in part on the perspective....devs work on tight deadlines, dlc allows for cut content to come back. So many mods are made putting cut content back into bethesda games for instance, files that are there in the game code but unused. This isn’t even that kind of content. This is new, fresh content, to enhance your game play.
This isn't Azura's wrath where the ENDING OF THE GAME (sorry I'm still really bitter about that one) is in dlc. or DA:I or ME:3 were major plot points were locked behind dlc or dlc for the previous games. This is just a roster increase. Game is done...”here have some more to keep you invested”. People act like the answer to consumer engagement is a new sequel all the time yet we know what annuals mean (less dev time, more mistakes often for content that could be provided to the base game as dlc as the better option. )
At this point my question is are you arguing no more dlc? I dont think that will translate to shorter dev time or more sequels. Dev teams are finding ways to bridge the gap between a sequel now. Games that might not see the investment for a sequel (and even if a sequel is greenlit it is years away) may see more life extension in the form of DLC..that has been going on since expansion packs.
As for fight games... it takes too long to make a follow up when you can just keep working the balancing, add new characters, boost longevity via tourneys and esports and since half the arcade games now get net based updates in japan that even makes the arcade scene that much more competitive and on the cutting edge of the franchise. Or we can wait and hope for a sequel several years later.
Is it because they announced it now? As opposed to later? Dev cycles are rigid in some (a lot) ways. You lock down a sprint and anything you want later is another sprint (not to mention licensing if these are 3rd parties characters). Not to mention QA on top. Sakurai locked down main development and then said hey I wanna do more cuz I am nuts. May I have more money and the green light to keep going? And Nintendo told him yes.
I'm a MvC fan. do you know how long it was between 2 and 3? 11 years. 11. I would have loved the current model now.
I'm not saying dlc and micro-transactions are great, nothing is when abused but when done correctly it functions as a revenue source for the dev (which often goes into more games later) and optional but engaging content for the gamer. everybody wins. Either way it is optional.
Also pinning anything on the name of the game is silly. Final Fantasy should have tought the world that. They wanted a word to describe how content packed the game is while not giving the impression it is a port/extension. Remember customers are stupid and have short attention spans. Marketing likely pinned that name up there. (And it still didn’t work because we had folks screaming “port”...) That isn’t even the Japanese name for the game (always look at your source language to see where the dev is at mentally. )
My son and I were debating who the new 5 are going to be.
Our first thought was ‘Default Skin’ from Fortnite, with the pickaxe as weapon and firearms, building and shield potions as special moves. They could even do a level based on one of the map sections. Not sure what music it would include though.
My thoughts on the others?
Beats/Gum from Jet Set Radio
Alucard from Castlevania
Leon S. Kennedy from Resi 4
Lloyd from Symphonia or Vyse from Arcadia
Ribbon Girl from ARMS
If I could choose anyone? Captain N. That would be icing on a very deep cake.
@RadioHedgeFund If they do Captain N I'm convinced this is the end of the series. That is a mic drop.
@gloom Alexandra Rovias from Eternal Darkness.
She'd make a great fighter, but the game is forgotten, both by fans and Nintendo. snif
TAKE MY MONEY
@gloom Great question and fully agree that we need more. It would be nice if Dixie Kong is one of the 5
Mario: Maybe a Captain Toad/Toadette combo?
Zelda series: Impa (skyward sword version?) & Tetra are the most logical ones. Skyward Sword isn't represented yet so maybe?
Midna is already an assist so she is probs rules out)
Fire Emblem: So many to choose from and a lot of character already but since Lyn is an assist maybe Celica?
Kid Icarus: We could see Medusa, the original series antagonist make an appearance as Sakurai directed the latest game and I haven't seen her come up in any other form yet.
Street Fighter: 3rd party Chun Li for sure deserves a spot now that Street Fighter is here!
Final Fantasy: Cloud is here, and since Yuna will be making her Switch debut soon she might have a shot as she is one of the most iconic Final Fantasy characters these days.
@Mordridakon Great idea, I did actually see her come up as a spirit somewhere in that Direct. I suspect that would rule her out though.
Hate day 1 dlc
Yay! There is still hope that Sora might be in Smash
@AJWolfTill Well at least Nintendo remembered her enough to put her in in some form!
@NEStalgia
Everyone from all previous Smash games is here. Not every character that's ever existed in the history of video gaming.
And I don't think anyone who's actually sat down and logically thought about it would dispute that this is one heck of an ultimate game.
There's nothing contradictory about having DLC. The game never boasted having every character that will ever exist in the future, only the characters that have existed in the past, plus a dozen more new ones. That's pretty ultimate to me. About as Ultimate a fighting game I've ever seen, and I've been playing games for 30 years. Unless you can think of another game that's out done this one, I don't think there's an argument for mocking the "ultimate" moniker
I just wish Rex was DLC, and Springman. Neither of them are in. Oh well. Whoever they are, they'll expand an already insane roster even larger.
Absolutely NOBODY can rationally complain about DLC that won't even begin development until after release, in a game that's already holding the Guinness book world record for most characters in a fighting game ever and then some.
edit
Btw, there is no such thing as "complete" with regard to Smash. And I'm not sure where people started getting that crazy notion. When people say "complete", what they mean is "complete $60 value" not "complete amount of content that could ever possibly be imagined and developed in a human being's life time". There is no end to a developer's imagination and content creation, save the "complete" product package value for $60. Once the complete amount of content developed for a game has been released, you can group all that content together and say it is the complete package being offered.
But no where did they market this game as "Complete", as in "complete with all content that will ever be developed for all of eternity". It's marketed as Ultimate, a descriptor perfectly apt for a game with 74 fighters and holding the record against every fighting game ever created in the last three decades. And it is indeed complete with regard to the $60 package value. Idk what's so hard to understand about that. Unless you wish to argue a game with 74 fighters should not be called Ultimate, or that a game that already provided astonishing value as the most Ultimate Fighter ever released should not have DLC developed post release if the developer wishes.
could someone tell me why are those characters sold as a DLC?
Smash Ultimate has no Day 1 DLC. They have DLC that will be sold when they're done developing it, with one of the characters available for free.
I hate to be that guy, but I'd rather them keep releasing DLC fighters rather than limiting it to 6. Of course, they might do that anyway (they still update Splatoon 2) and these ones will just be part of the first season pass.
@BlackenedHalo They're being developed after the game releases. It's the same concept as ssb4. Ya'll are dumb.
I hope Rayman is one of those DLC characters. I’m fine whoever is in that lineup of DLC regardless, but I still need my boy Rayman.
$60 for 74 characters, 103 stages, a buuuunch of extra content like music and assist trophies and game modes and cinematics etc.
$30 for 5 characters, 5 stages, a few songs. Half the price of the game for 1/1000th the content. Not complaining, it just seems weird when you look at it that way.
Most people's favorite characters were deconfirmed today. Isaac, Skull Kid, Geno, Dixie, Shantae, and so on. For a lot of us it's hard to imagine what DLC they could even make to excite us anymore. Sora and Banjo I suppose.
The last 3 character announcements were severely underwhelming. I practically never saw anyone ask for Ken or Incineroar. Isabelle had a little fan group but you can't say most Smashers had any passion about her. Petey just had me laughing, all the characters that were passed over for a plant, I felt bad for everyone who got their hopes up just to get trolled. That's NOT how you close a final Smash announcement, especially a game you've titled "Ultimate".
"How can you possibly complain when there are 70+ characters??"
Because besides the few cool new ones we did get, we've been playing everyone else for a long long time already. Snake and Ice Climbers are cool but I had them for the 7+ years I played Brawl, excuse me for not jumping for joy at familiarity.
rex with pyra/mythra for smash as one of the dlc characters.
I want Rabbid Mario so badly!
This is a great business move on Daddy Sakurai's part as it extends the lifespan of the game and keeps the hype train going.
Still waiting for a Mario RPG rep
@AlexSora89
I don't think being an AT means anything really. It's just a fan rule that ATs can't be playable.
We never had DLC before Smash Wii U, so there was never a chance for any AT to be upgraded lol.
I think Isaac still has a chance. Join me in continuing to support him! Such is the fate of a Golden Sun fan.
I don't think Matthew has a chance cause he's a literal "who" to the entire Smash fanbase. Isaac's way more likely, imo, to be both an AT and playable than Matthew getting in over Isaac. Although I'll still GLADLY take Matthew as a GS rep, if it happens.
I've been playing Super Mario R.P.G. and I just met Geno so I wouldn't mind to see him the next D.L.C. batch.
The Final Five
Well I definitely see the value of this DLC , so I will purchase the pass. May not be day one purchase, but maybe sometime in January or February after the holiday season.
Still holding hope for skull kid (hasn't been de confirmed by being assist trophy or whatever)
But honestly, I am satisfied with the game, so much to do! And the PP being a free character is going to be great!
And the music! Definitely be investing in some Bluetooth converter for the Switch so I can listen to them tunes on the go!
@BlackenedHalo because they have not made them yet and development costs money. This is outside the initial budget (which if Sakurai didn’t go over I will eat my eye) and is a new dev cycle.
I know consumers don’t care and think the 60 dollar price tag represents more than “this is the price we will charge that wont have consumers riot and not the cost of development ane we only hope sales recoup our profit projections in sales”. That is part of the reason SaaS is so popular. Less undercut and consistent revenue stream.
Not being snarky.
Another DLC I would pay for would be alt costumes for characters. Maybe not $5.99 but a like $1 or so for new costumes for all Super Mario characters, etc. That's one place this game can really shine! Imagine playing Zelda in the different versions of her, Peach, Link,inkling, Ganondorf, etc. Even regular updates with characters can help.
But I would like Sakurai to actually leave this to be done by other people, and have him take a rest for once in his life. Just wishful thinking, can't wait for the game in a month
@LasermasterA
As I mentioned in the reply to your other comment: if Isaac is made playable, then Matthew could take over his spot as an Assist Trophy.
@RyanSilberman Smash 4 was still fun and playable without the aforementioned dlc. This time around they are doing dlc cheaper and a bit fairer now (stage+music+fighter=5.99)
"Let us know if you think the paid DLC will be good value for money or not with a comment below. Will you be coughing up for the Fighters Pass or not?"
No I will not be coughing up for the Fighters Pass, as I am not coughing up anything at the moment.
@AlexSora89
Yea that'd be great lol.
They could use the AT Isaac model as a base for his playable model, and then edit it a tad to make it Matthew.
Doesn't sound THAT complicated to edit an Isaac AT to a Matthew AT.
Anyways, onto the DLC HYPE TRAIN!
@Varubajia no problem. We’ve all been there. I wish you good fortune, positivity and hope things improve! Have a wonderful day!
@LasermasterA
Thing is, the closest we've gotten to a swordsman/magician JRPG-esque mix is Robin (or Daraen as he's known in Italy). If anything, that particular moveset is sort of covered, but Golden Sun has so much unique stuff going for it. Psynergy, Djinns, you name it.
It's already a miracle Cloud is back in the game. We need a reserve for fantasy JRPG representation when Cloud is inevitably cut from the next game, and the go-to franchise for classic fantasy JRPG IPs owned by Nintendo is
MiitopGOLDEN SUN.@AlexSora89 Yeah exactly!! Or one of all those Gods or so!!!
I hope they make more than 5 DLC characters, just so the roster would be absolutely epic (I mean, it's already epic enough as it is, but no harm in going bigger).
@AlexSora89
Yup. He fits that niche perfectly.
Also, on a related note, Golden Sun fans are holding a twitter campaign of sorts on Nov. 11, the 17th anniversary of Golden Sun to send a message to Nintendo that we fans still want a new Golden Sun game! Do join!

Golden Sunday.
Hold on a sec, I'm still confused by the sheer genius behind it.
@AlexSora89

@LasermasterA
It also doubles as Golden Sun Day... it works on so many levels!
@AlexSora89 Yup! Gotta celebrate one of our favouritest games turning 17 years old.
@LasermasterA
Wasn't 17 Isaac's age the night it all began?
@AlexSora89 Almost 17. He turns 17 sometime in the game, but it's not mentioned when.
@AlexSora89 the gods in golden sun?
@LasermasterA
My memory is kinda fuzzy, sorry!
@MisterDevil
