Re: Video: Sakurai Doesn't Make Kirby Games Anymore, Y'know

Kirby_Girl

@HammerGalladeBro He doesn't talk about games much online. Just post screen caps and articles. He did say in an interview he was thrilled for new Kirby and is proud that Kirby is so versatile that he imagines many different developers would want to work on a Kirby game. He also did congratulate Kirby and the Forgotten Land's release on twitter. I'm sure contrary to what some stubborn fans think, he's quite proud that interest in Kirby had been maintained. We know he owns games like Triple Deluxe in his collection directed by Kumazaki. They are also pictured together and seem to be on good terms. Not long ago I saw Kumazaki likeing Sakurai's post on Instagram. So I imagine he's into it even if he's nostalgic or more comfortable talking about his own works.

@RendoFonzarelli if you can only enjoy sandbox and open world style platformers then hard to recommend. As someone who very much enjoyed the concentrated platforming and adventuring of more linear games like Mario 3D Land or Galaxy 2, Forgotten Land was still super delightful. If you dislike those mentioned titles tho then, yeah. Don’t get it. You know yourself. I like Open World games sometimes and sometimes I just prefer to get straight to the point. I’m open to either depending on the mood.

Well deserved. HAL has finally transitioned in more ways then just 3D. With a title that has greater appeal, greater ambition, and greater numbers. This game is HUGE for the franchise and hopefully a good sign for all new Kirby to come. I can see Kirby sky rocketing in greater popularity beyond his kawaii appeal. I’m seeing all kinds of friends who have not bought a Kirby game in years or ever buy one show interest in the game. Good job, HAL

@nowthisisepic it's not as big as Odyssey. Odyssey had bigger sandbox areas. Kirby is more linear but there's still plenty through out the levels and missions to complete. Some of them even pretty challenging. It's doesn't have the scope of an Odyssey but I'm perfectly fine with that. Its more concentrated in a way. To me it's VERY fun and I loved Odyssey. Replayed Odyssey various times and see myself revisiting this game as well. Also it is the same level of whimsy and charm of Odyssey. There's a lot of richness to Forgotten Land that will fill you with wonder and put a smile on your face and that charm is exactly like Odyssey IMHO. I'm loving it!

If you strictly looking for bigger Sandbox or more open world design then hard to recommend but if you're looking for one of the best 3D platformers on the console that's more contracted fun, with plenty to collect or perfect, and that high level of charm and polish then its definitely one of the best on the Switch.

@Crockin yeah I hate the whole nostalgia disqualification as if most of the ppl who are KSSU fans aren't under 25 and many of them played KSSU as their first Kirby game. There's always gonna be bias when you play any game first. Fans of newer games aren't exempt from this just because their first game came out later.

Re: Soapbox: Kirby Returns To Remind Us That Escapism Isn't A Dirty Word

@somnambulance yeah I'm playing and enjoying Elden Ring but Kirby is definitely my GOTY. Maybe I'm a biased Kirby fan but tbh Elden Ring is more Dark Souls with a big and impressive map but the feel is still very familiar and the balance is odd according to many. Also I still just prefer Sekiro. Kirby on the other hand is a blast so far, whimsical, magical, and a complete breath of fresh air to its respective franchise. It's straight up made me smile with its world and gameplay. It's not as brutal but some of the challenges are actually really tough like the no hit boss missions and best times. So it still has a feeling of accomplishment. I'm having a blast. I really hope it gets some recognition atleast.

Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

@Crockin I prefer the og too and I didn’t even play the game until college so it’s not like I have childhood nostalgia over it. I get tired of KSSU fans insisting the ONLY reason anyone would prefer the original is nostalgia lol it’s quite dismissive and ignores the things KSS does do well. It’s got the most convenient co-op that is in the spirit of the game, I prefer the music, the character sprites for Kirby, the pixel art cutscenes, the stars being harder to grab, the aggressive nature of the enemies, and I love the impact of the game. (Which to me is a valid reason to like video games. To also appreciate the context in which it was developed and it’s contributions and to think that’s awesome.) I used to like KSSU more then KSS too but in recent years have switched back because I just replay KSS way more. It feels like the right length and easy to just play and casually pick a mode, and go. Now it even has online co-op or a joy-con to pass on to a 2nd player. I’ve recently replayed the game with a friend and even my mother. It was such a blast. I LOVE KSSU as well. I think it is a polished remake and it does make some cool improvements like the backgrounds, some colors, and the fanservice is great. The Kabula fight and masked Dedede fight are awesome but I just feel less compelled to whip out my ds to play it and just play KSS more. That’s not just nostalgia x.x Both are great imho but I honestly just play KSS more

Re: There's "No Clear Timeline" For Kirby's Game Stories, According To HAL Laboratory's General Director

Kirby_Girl

@Not_Soos Marx and Magolor are definitely alive. Shinya Kumazaki said he escaped at the last moment. he returned to building amusement levels in the 20th anniversary game and Dedede Drum Dash. Marx survived in Star Allies but but hard to say why and how lol. It was never explained but tbh I love Marx so I’m okay with it. I really like the characters so I’m okay with these two. They are also just generally popular.

Re: There's "No Clear Timeline" For Kirby's Game Stories, According To HAL Laboratory's General Director

Kirby_Girl

@westman98 I really don’t understand the bottom timeline lol at first I thought it was the timeline for Kirby games with no power but games like Air Ride and Dreamcourse have powers

Also this timeline is wild. There’d be another timeline branching off Kirby Super Star and leading to the smash brothers universe.

Also this might organize the games by types I guess but then there’s the whole mess of the Alt timelines or AU stories that happen in some of the sub games. Then the games also have a lot of cross dimensional happenings. It’s just too wild. I just go by the release date order. Just easier for me

Also what’s the point of having the ancients and dark matter timelines separate? To me they are in the same timeline, those games up top reference the games with Dark Matter later on bridging the games.

Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

Kirby_Girl

@rdm22 That's fine. Tbh no franchise would be able to compete with smash brothers if smash brothers spawned from it lol. Smash Brothers is so big culturally and across gaming with its phenomenal crossover. Bringing folks and characters from across the industry

But tbh that only makes KSS even more amazing to me personally. Like something that borrows so much from KSS, something that came from such a humble entry level series, to be as BIG as smash. That HUGELY IMPORTANT gaming series came from little ol' Kirby.

In a way it makes it memorable too even if in the shadow and less so to many.

I guess I can't help but appreciate it tbh. Fills me with love ❀️

Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

@Muddy_4_Ever Yup I agree! As good as Planet Robobot is, it is just great polished Kirby and another Kirby Super Star style game working off the foundation of Return to Dreamland. Meanwhile Forgotten Land is evolving Kirby while still maintaining what makes Kirby great and absolutely feeling more alive then any previous entries have felt. It's a complete homerun from HAL and Shinya Kumazaki deserves to be very proud of this one. πŸ‘ I'm sure Sakurai is damn proud of the guys at HAL for this one. He actually gave a shout out to the game on twitter something he rarely does with modern titles. Almost like he really wanted a new direction for the series FINALLY. πŸ€”

Also I bought Planet Robobot twice! Love the game but I'm a realistic older fan. I knew that the series I loveed needed to do more to appeal to more folks. I'm glad it's happening and I'm fully impressed with HAL

Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

Kirby_Girl

@Tempestryke I'm a huge fan of the old games but I think Forgotten Land kicks it outta the park with how robust it is. It's definitely one of Kirby's best titles from what I've played so far. I've felt like HAL had played it safe for while now and hadn't evolved the core gameplay but Forgotten Land is them proving they can go so hard. They have done it and it's superb.

Re: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

Kirby_Girl

@Funneefox you act like there's no Shinya Kumazaki bias lmao no offense but a lot of fans are younger then me and their first games were Shinya Kumazaki ones and to say there isnt bias for the new stuff like there is bias for the old stuff is ridiculous πŸ™„ I'm a huge fan of both directors but Shinya Kumazaki fans really have a victim complex for the guy.

Also I think Forgotten Land getting first is well deserved
