It's that time, once again, for the Famitsu Japanese charts; this time they cover the week of 28th March to 3rd April.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land holds strong at the top spot for the week and despite seeing a fairly significant drop in sales from the previous week, it is still leagues ahead of the competition with 110,946 sales.
The rest of the top ten looks fairly self-explanatory, but there are a total of nine Switch titles here, with only Elden Ring for PS4 making any kind of dent in Nintendo's dominance.
- [NSW] Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Nintendo, 03/25/22) – 110,946 (491,006)
- [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 19,801 (4,538,274)
- [NSW] Pokemon Legends: Arceus (The Pokemon Company, 01/28/22) – 12,728 (2,208,128)
- [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft, 06/21/18) – 11,158 (2,585,882)
- [PS4] Elden Ring (FromSoftware, 02/25/22) – 10,068 (317,614)
- [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo, 12/07/18) – 9,831 (4,832,454)
- [NSW] Mario Party Superstars (Nintendo, 10/29/21) – 7,782 (927,817)
- [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 6,359 (1,993,660)
- [NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo, 03/20/20) – 5,410 (7,225,499)
- [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo, 10/18/19) – 5,101 (3,112,437)
The hardware chart holds no surprises for us this week, with the Switch OLED out in front and the PS5 nipping at its heels. Total sales for the OLED Model have now passed 1.5 million, and total Switch sales - including the standard model and the Lite - are close to hitting the 25 million mark.

Is PS5 price in Japan not as crazy as here in Indonesia ? (More than $700)
PS5 number sales in Japan was pretty big, a lot of demand over there.
Another dominant week for nintendo, xbox still struggling for momentum in Japan by the looks of it, the ps5 digital version has nearly sold twice the combined series S & X sales
The PlayStation 5 stock seems to being to sent to Japan instead of the west lately
Good for HAL, because guess what they’re working on next.. lol
I’ve said it before, but it’s so great when games that have been made with such effort and care sell well. If Star Allies, a game I like, but a very safe game at the end of day, cracked 3 million, there’s no reason Forgotten Land won’t sell more than that.
@NinChocolate another 3D mainline Kirby game?
@CITRONtanker i can see Kirby and the Forgotten Land becoming the best selling game of the franchise.
I think the OLED model outselling PS5 in these short few months is interesting
The pleasant surprise was Kirby. I don't think anyone expected the game to be this good. Its really something.
Would be nice for Kirby to stay # for week 3 too but there's going to be some serious competition with Lego Star Wars next week
Pretty good second week for Kirby.
@SugarKane Well it's Pokémon.
@Axecon you’re right about that. Where I live it was completely sold out at many of the stores I went to. I got it at GameStop after they had just got a restock.
Well deserved! 😍
Yay, Kirby! I am enjoying almost every minute of this game!
Ring Fit Adventure still in the top ten! Wow! We need more and better games that use the ringcon.
Alright Kirby!!! I hope it can retain for longer.
Nintendo domination, love it 😀 Kirby deserves the number one spot for sure.
I got Kirby this week and its brilliant and very enjoyable.
Such a satisfying game, glad i put forth the time and effort to 100%
Wow, Elden Ring sold nothing in Japan
@maulinks you can double that number with digital sales.
add digital sales Forgotten Lands is likely over 600,000
Makes sense to me. Game rules. Def would love a sequel in the same vein.
Buying it for my daughter today, she loved the demo. Such a good kids game.
Is PS5 getting easier to find? At least in some places I guess. I have never seen one in a store or even in stock online. I get the emails from Gamestop telling me when they will have some online (usually bundles), but the few times I have tried they are gone instantly.
Yay for Kirby! Elden Ring is holding up well.
The ps5 has zero games in the top 10, why buy a system and not buy any games? The ps5 is lacking quality games, unlike the Switch which has a ton. The only thing I can think of is Final Fantasy 16 , but these days the FF Games aren't what they use to be, 16 looks like a knock off of the Devil may cry 5.2.
If FF16 had been called Dragon slaying Chronicles, then not many people would be interested in the game.
People are going to buy this game, just for the name, and I would never buy a switch or an X box series x, just for Halo or Zelda Only, but the Switch has super mario odyssey, Kirby, metroid , smash, animal crossing, Mario kart and much more.
All Sony has are mediocre titles that are rushed buggy messes that are not AAA Quality games. So no chip shortages or scalpers, the ps5 is in stock, and ps5 games are not doing that well or down right bombing. So why are they buying this system? To get a minor upgrade to ps4 games? People complain about the Switch on line expansion costing 50 bucks, with animal crossing dlc, Mario kart dlc , which is 25 bucks a piece. Both add up to 50 bucks and you are getting all the n64 and genesis games and SNES And Nes games and online service for FREE. a great deal, that so many people whine and cry about, yet they don't mind throwing 500 bucks down the toilet on a machine that has no, Not one , quality game on it or spending 70 bucks on mediocre games, and what about better performance?
Digital Foundry said Elden Ring has better performance on the ps4 over the ps5 version... HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? No wonder Sony is telling people to but a ps4. And hardly no exclusives , you can get the exact same game on the ps4 for 10 bucks cheaper.
So after God of War and FF16, what else does Sony have? Nintendo still has Zelda BOTW2, metroid prime 4, Bayonetta 3, splatoon3, pokemon scarlet and violet and much more. I will always say Sony should have delayed the ps5 by 2 years, who cares if they release the system last, the Switch has already won the 9th gen wars, Sony will never catch up.
Sony should have took its time made a quality machine, and let the developers finish there games and released them complete and ready to play, then the ps5 could have had great quality games, but instead we a system that has games that seem the developers could have used several more months to work on, like rachet and clank, death stranding, demon Souls, horizon west, and the list just goes on. So I agree with Micheal pachter, if Sony does not get their act together and start making better quality games, in 10 years there may not be a Sony console, and that will be nobody's fault but Sony.
@michellelynn0976 yeah Michelle, I agree with you, Kirby is such a fantastic game. I am so happy for its success.
Minecraft. I remember when it hadn’t quite hit a million and was urging it on. It’s like the Japanese equivalent of GTA V in the charts. Probably sold more than all the Xbox consoles combined over there.
@evildread799 Ok.
@evildread799 not enough people own a Ps5 to make the ten. Not when the Switch has a user base at least five times bigger…
Some of the Treasure Road Stages in Kirby almost had me ripping my hair out, something I definitely didn't expect in a Kirby game.
@rockodoodle it took a little over 5000 physical copies to scrape in to this week’s Top10, it’s really not good that no PS5 can break in to it most weeks.
@rockodoodle There are over 1 million PS5s in Japan.
@evildread799 But the Switch has close to 25 million…
